Jr i want to thank you for teaching me more about my 2.2L engine. I have a 95 S10 with 578K miles. (215K Since complete rebuild) I have owned it for 478K of those miles. Great piece of auto engineering for the money IMO. New subscriber
Ha Ha Ha. I own a 96 2.2L with a blown head gasket right now. Glad to know there's someone in the world that actually respects this engine. I think they're poorly manufactured US trash. Love the body style (extended cab). I've had a total reman engine, and have blown a gasket for the 3rd time. Been sitting for years in my drive way. I will repair it one more time because its paid for and I did enjoy it when it ran.
my 01 that i bought from original owner in 03 had 3 or 4 of the exhaust studs and nuts GONE when I had to replace cracked manifold a few years ago - had me wondering WTH. pretty sure nobody had touched that area before. quirky combination for sure, but has served me well - 200k and counting, runs like a champ, but mostly a PITA to work on
No sir, I didn't do an assembly video do to it being disassembly in reverse. The biggest advice on that job is to remove the head with the intake and exhaust manifold bolted up and install it as one unit as well
Great video. I just took my 2003 apart yesterday and am currently looking for a shop to recondition the head and resurface the exhaust manifold. Can you tell me the typical cost for this service?
Nice video. I do have a question that maybe you would know the answer to. I have a 1995 with the 2.2, I wanted to upgrade the intake system a little so I was thinking about hitting the salvage yard and using a 98+ intake manifold and throttle body as well as fuel rail and injectors. I know I would need an intake adapter like the chevy cavalier world sells. Do you think this would help us 94-97 S10 guys get some extra power?
I don't remember the exact cost . Basically just had to buy the gasket set. I did not replace the timing set. And you have to get with your local machine shop for head repair pricing, probably gonna be a few hundred bucks.
I have a 03 s10 with 106, XXX miles original on it and I developed a misfire in 3 of the 4 cylinders and my coolant smells like gas or exhaust with a ton of unburnt gas. Never overheated in the 5 years I have had it. It doesn't smoke while running so I'm guessing a cracked head.. Would you agree that's a likely scenario?
How much is it for a head gasket replacement on a Chevy S10 2002? I'm trying to determine whether it's worth it or not my truck has about 135,000 miles on it
I have a 2003 s10 with a blown head gasket. The oil is milky amd 2 times over the full line. It has compression and it stutters like it wants to fire but doesnt. Am i relatively safe or should I get a 2.2 donner motor. Thanks for the video
Hard to say until the cylinder head is pulled off and inspected by a machine shop. It could be as easy as resurfacing, valve job and a new head gasket.
This video is very brief and does not show the disassembly in enough detail to aid DIY mechanics much, even in slow motion. For anybody looking for an excellent YT video for this engine I suggest EricTheCarGuy '2001 GMC Sonoma 2.2L Enginge Replacment' (7 parts).
Would the blown head gasket cause an oil leak? I feel like this is the problem with my ‘01 S10. My coolant goes down insanely fast, I have a “severe” oil leak, start up is dry sounding. A new mechanic I tried said my head gasket is causing the oil leak and it’s too big of a job for them.
The head gasket would have to have a major piece missing to cause an oil leak. The only oil that passes from the head to the block is the oil that drains to the bottom which is not pressureized
Your very explanatory ,but got to tell you , you could be the go to guy ,but like others on here ,you speed through critical parts of the process. You seem more interested in hearing your own voice than explain the chance how to teaching someone to really get the job done .
You did great brother. Don’t let the haters stop you from posting more helpful videos. 👍🏻
@@robertwirth9276 thanks, some people definitely have nothing better to do than hate.

That was a perfect video for what i'm about to get into right now with my 2001.Thanks brotha!!!!
Your welcome
Thank you, , this is a great video. Appreciate the way you narrated it.
Inherited my Moms 02 3Dr s10 LS. It had sat for a year or 2, Same issue. Blown gasket. Didn't think about the heater hose. informative video!
Thanks, glad it helped.
keep the good work up, 2 mins in and actually likeing the way youre doing everything. other people be brain dead swear
Thanks
The exact same thing my truck does I was thinking the starter was weak but well now I got a new starter 😂😂😂

I wish i had one dollar for every 2.2 head gasket iv done. Id be rich.
got to do my 99 s-10--blows my coolant out da radiator with cap off
Is there a part 2 yet? Reassembly. I just got a 99 s10 with what i believe to be a blown head gasket. Liked the teardown video and info

@@JunkinwithJr now I'm seeing the other video. Head looks good! Thanks again for the video. Nicely done.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed them
I had one head bolt outside the valve cover that was tight! The back one! LoL 🤣
That's crazy!
my 97 S10 with the 2.2 goes in the shop tuesday to have the head gasket replaced. its Leaking externally
Great, hope it all works out for you. Make sure they replace that problematic little piece of heater hose also😉
Great video. I just took my 2003 apart yesterday and am currently looking for a shop to recondition the head and resurface the exhaust manifold. Can you tell me the typical cost for this service?
Probably $200.00-$300.00

Not sure, I've never messed around with that swap
@@JunkinwithJr Ok thanks. I will keep researching
How much did it cost you to fix it and what parts did you buy or replace? Did you change the timing chain since you were that far?

Most likely a head gasket issuo
Why don't you start with: cooling system pressure test; cylinder compression test. Instead of meandering around and chasing hoses.
Well I'm not the smartest person... but the job got done
I dropped a socket down the distributor channel hole trying to turn the pump. Will that damage the engine or is it down in my oil pan?
That's a gamble. I'd try everything possible to get it out
Fuel line on the back

If you have a shop do it all it could get perdy pricey. That's why I have to fix all this junk myself

Sorry I let you down.
Ok how do you know if you have the right fan for 98 2.2 s10
Does it pull air through the radiator while running? Does the diameter of the fan fit the diameter of the shroud? If so then I'd say your good

@@JunkinwithJr well sounds like I might have that big piece as well as this heater hose and more issue. Cause oil is definitely leaking after driving.

Is this the same as a 91 S10 ?
That I'm not sure of. Probably similar though
how ya get the fan blade off?
Put a wrench on it and give 'er a good walk or the ole air chisel works good 2
@@JunkinwithJr can you be a little clearer? thanks
@@termike55 brute force , put a wrench on it and swing the hammer like you mean it. Don't be scared sometimes it takes several wacks to bust it loose

Turn Down the music befor it blowes out the speaker,s,I don,t know why you have to have music so loud .Would more enjoyable with out it

Still running?
Yes it is, daily driver for the guy that bought it from me
Dude just say what it is and it’s needs to be replaced 😅
