- I'll show you how to UNLOCK "AirPlay to Mac" on 2010-2017 Macs! You can enable this great feature with OpenCore Legacy Patcher!! + AirPlay to Mac is enabled on all 2008-2015 Unsupported OpenCore Legacy Patcher Monterey Macs!

1. AirPlay to Mac
AirPlay content to your Mac Use AirPlay to send content to your Mac from an iPhone, iPad, or even another Mac. View videos, edit Keynote presentations, and hear music on your Mac as it’s being played from your other device. Your Mac works with any Apple device, and it’s even easier to connect if the devices share the same Apple ID.
2. Mirror or extend the display
When you send content from your iPhone or iPad to your Mac, you can choose to mirror your iPhone or iPad or extend its display by using a Mac as a secondary display for apps that support it, such as Keynote and Photos.
3. Use as AirPlay 2 speaker
Your Mac can function as a third-party AirPlay 2 speaker, allowing you to play music or podcasts to your Mac or use it as a secondary speaker for multiroom audio.
4. Send wired or wirelessly
AirPlay works both wirelessly and wired using USB. A wired connection is useful when you want to ensure that there’s no latency or you don’t have access to Wi-Fi.

When i try to boot with the alt button to EFI partion patched with OPCL on the internal disk i get a black screen when the mac tries to boot. I have a Macbook pro 12.1 and i followed you instructions on the video.

Thank you so much for these videos. If I hadn’t stumbled on your videos three months ago, my mid 2010 MacBook Pro would of been collecting dust in the closet. But coming across your videos I’ve successfully installed Open Core patcher and it’s has brought new life to my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro- a 13 year old machine. Oh, men! You are my saver! I have just got this IMac 2015 yesterday and was negatively surprise the Airplay function is not available! But you have made my day! The installing interface looked bit different on my screen though and i am not that technical but everything went perfectly and now i have it without using USB! Thank you sooooooo much! Apple constantly block new features for older macs even when they can clearly use them so that you'll buy a new mac. But thanks to guys like yourself my bank is happier lol.
Roy, I agree. I just don't understand why they did that other to sell new Macs. They made live text available to older Macs later in the beta, why not Airplay to mac?

I went through a lot of videos to enable side car but half of them didn’t work out (or maybe I didn’t do it right way) and I didn’t wanna use app cuz when I used it my macbook and ipad were so hot. And I tried this out. IT WORKED SO BEAUTIFULLY. I’m not a native speaker, but this tutorial was so easy to follow even for non native speaker! Everything understood clearly. Thank you so much!

Congratulations for this amazing tutorial. It worked in an iMac14,1 using OCLP 0.4.1 and Monterey 12.0.1. That is great!!!! Nevertheless, I wanted to warn that it is not working using the updated version Monterey 12.2. and OCLP 0.4.1 (in the same iMac14,1 model). The Airplay receiver continued missing after the full process. Again, congratulations. Your tutorials are amazing!!!
May 20 generations of your offspring be blessed!!!! :) I had purchased an Macbook and was hoping to share screen with my 2017 iMac but the feature that used to exist with my earlier 2014 iMac (can't remember what it was called) was no longer available on my 2017 iMac (go figure!). Because of the new M1 chip on the MacBook Air, your average external monitors did not work. The Macbook couldn't recognise it and I couldn't get their full resolution. So after multiple dozens of hours of troubleshooting with monitor companies, Apple, returning monitors, etc, I finally found a monitor that worked. But it was a big headache and I lost money in the process. That was a year ago. Meanwhile, I was about to sell my iMac when I found your video. And now I have TWO monitors on my desk! WOOHOO! I am so grateful.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! We just set this up on my wife's setup. Literally the same configuration: Late 2015 27" & 2021 MacBook Pro. Our only issue was it didn't detect the USB drive, until we changed the scheme to "GUID Partition Map", then it worked like a champ! Thanks again... In case I didn't mention it. lol

Thanks for all you do, Mr. Macintosh. I was able to install Monterey on my 5K iMac (15,1) without issues, and unlocked AirPlay as well. Sadly, as others have mentioned, wireless or wired Airplay from my M1 Pro MacBook Pro 14" to my iMac 5K yields a UHD (4K) image on the iMac as an extended display. Gradients show compressed banding and the resolution is just not quite the same. Sadly, I'll have to upgrade to the Studio Display as a companion to my upcoming Mac Studio, which I was hoping to use with the iMac as a display. Alas, grateful for all your work.
Fabian, if you connect a USB or thunderbolt cable does that add more resolution? Are you using the latest OCLP app 0.4.3 ?

First of all, thanks for the great content! amazing work!!! I manage to install Monterrey on mi iMac 27 from 2011 but I can't make airplay to work as a receiver. Inside OCLP in MISC SETTINGS, the option is PARTIALLY ENABLE and when I change it to ENABLE and log out to the change take effect... it goes to partially enabled again. I don't know how to enable airplay but I see that a lot of people can. Thanks again for your priceless effort.

I stumbled upon this video because I think I am about to set-up a really unconventional 'dual-mac' set-up. I have two (intel) MacBook Pros. I was thinking of using the spare one to act as a 'streaming' mac. My first obvious thought was to buy a capture card and route my primary MacBook's display to streaming MacBook. But then I recalled the KeyNote and Airplay to mac. Down the rabbit hole I go!

CIAO Grandissimi! Perfect video also for those who use email, calendar and little else. Some difficulties because having passed a year we are at version 0.6.2. The file to download has changed and the interface has changed, but in reality it's easier with a little attention. I tried first with the video version but it doesn't work anymore, I had to redo. My new macbook pro M2 has an extra monitor now, its grandpa imac27 2015 late. Sure the 1920x1080 resolution is a bit more disappointing than I expected for some jobs. But very convenient functionality with the possibility of using a single keyboard and mouse and returning to having two computers in one click. great apple for functionality and great you who keep old macs alive too.

I installed Monterey today on my 2013 iMac. Your video was awesome. Paint by numbers. One question: Apple (iTunes) remote no longer recognizes iMac. Home Share option from iPhone doesn’t recognize my iMac library. Several Google searches said to connect manually via Music or TV and select device. No device seen. No remote button to be found. Love the simplicity of the old Remote app. Again, thanks for you amazing channel. So helpful to nobs like myself.

However, I am having an issue with AirPlay when using the Apple TV, Prime Video, Netflex etc., screen goes into full screen mode and get an X over the play button. AirPlay works great from the UA-cam app

Hi, again. I just installed macOS Monterey on my external SSD and want to use OCLP to add the AirPlay to Mac functionality. In this video, you downloaded the TUI version. I also saw a newer video you made about the updated OCLP GUI installer and was wondering if it can be used instead of the TUI to install the patcher that will allow AirPlay to Mac and, if so, if using the GUI would be any easier? Thanks, again! It's great having your videos and expertise available to be able to update usable Macs that have been abandoned by Apple!
Hello, Thanks for the tutorial, I tested it on my macbook air (early 2015 model) with mac os 12.6.7 and it worked! and here's some extra info that might help others:
-You can use SDcard too.
-You don't need 16gb flash drive, I tested it on a "1gb" drive and it worked with no problem.
-You don't have to format your drive with "MacOs Extended" format, you can also use "MS-DOS(FAT)" format, if Legacy Patcher doesn't see your drive, formatting with FAT can solve your problem. You shouldn't change "scheme" though, use GUID as the video mentions.
-New versions of Legacy Patcher are only available with GUI, which is fine, open the patcher app, go to settings, deselect "Show OpenCore Boot Picker", then go to the "App" tab and select "Allow native models" (if a message pops up select Yes). then press Return to get back to the first page. Now press "Build and Install OpenCore" and the rest will be obvious.
Hey! Glad I found your comment. I was able to follow the videos instructions about a year ago and was successful with it. Up until today when my screen mirroring stopped working. So I came back here and thought I would try again. And then I realised how different OCLP is now. Your comment helped me but unfortunately have either 1 of the 2 problems:
1. Even when I press option while restarting, it doesnt put my iMac into reboot mode, it just restarts like normal and logs me in.
2. If by chance, number 1 doesnt happen, I am only shown 1 option on the reboot screen and thats my Macintosh HD, nothing for OCLP.

Hi, thank you for your comment. It's really helpful. But it still doesn't work for me.
1. I downloaded the latest version of OCLP (a GUI version).
2. I turned on the 'Allow native models' in the App section, and turned off the 'Show OpenCore Boot Picker' in the Build section.
3. Then I started building and installed in my USB. It showed me that the installation was successful and told me to restart my mbp.
4. I restarted my mbp and keep holding on the 'option' key.
Unfortunately, the USB option didn't show up. Could you please help me with this?
(During step 3, it asked something about allowing access and I accidentally clicked not allowed. I wondered if this is the reason why this is not working. I tried to go through these steps including uninstall OCLP, erase my USB, etc. The questions never show up again.)

I have moved to Monterey on almost all my Macs so far. It is very stable on all of them all the way back to 2011! Just make sure that your apps are compatible first 👍

@@alexsun4471 Hey there, I can confirm it works very well if you use a good thunderbolt 3/4. usb-C cable (wifi is a bit too weak, unless you have an extremely fast connection but even then I'm not sure about stability etc). You can get even better result in terms of flexibility by using some utilities like BetterDisplay or RDM. That said I think this solution still has some limitations compared to a proper external screen (only 4k and FullHD in hidpi are truly crisp, any other resolution still gets a bit blurry for my taste - or perhaps I should say to my retina-quality-amused-eyes?) so I would only suggest it to someone like me who already has a 27" iMac around, not if you have to buy it just to use as a secondary screen for your MB. my 2c of course... good luck!
I actually never got around to updating to Monterey, but I'm now using Ventura and was wondering if this will work the same in Ventura, just using the latest release version which is, I believe, 0.5.3? I noticed n the notes that this version will "Resolves AirPlay to Mac support in macOS Ventura on VMM configs" so I guess that includes all 2017 iMacs running macOS Ventura v.13.1?

Lucky for me, my two Mac Minis are close, so I just set up a Cat 6 Ethernet cable between them. It's cool how you can just open a window and completely control the other computer. That said, I expected file sharing to be faster over Ethernet. I've turned the MTU packet size up to 9000 Bytes, that's helped. For some reason I was expecting something like SATA 2 performances from that. I see how I was wrong though. I don't know what I thought Ethernet was, but even USB 3.0 isn't close to that kind of performance.
use rsync or a 'real' program instead - it's a LOT faster.

Can anyone tell me, if the speed of the USB-Drive does matter at all? If it's only read during the initial Boot sequence, a USB 2.0-Drive would be plenty sufficient, wouldn't it?

I’m following these steps but at end the usb doesn’t show in the list as a startup drive, neither it does if I repeat the process on the internal drive. Any idea why can that be?
Airplay to Mac was working tonight from my iMac to my MacBook Pro 2017 and 2018 respectively I’m Big Sur I didn’t even know it was going on I looked over at my other one computer and it was playing the same videos that I was doing on imac.

I'm kind of afraid of messing up with my MBP15 2017(Macbook pro 14,3) with OCLP if I install the all new coming up versions. Do you think it's going to be fine? Or so recommend using USB so I can avoid any issues which might be happening like I mentioned?

@@Mr.Macintosh I have the same issue on my iMac 27' 14,2 2013. There is no option Airplay receiver at Sharing settings.

Thanks for this video and the excellent information provided. I have been minded to do this: use my iMac 2017, model 18,3, and running on Mojave as an external display to my new M1 MacBook Air running on Big Sur. After 3 days of personal search on the internet and questioning on the Apple Discussion forum, I was guided to Luna Display and a cheaper alternative : duet display. I am not computer savvy and want to know this: Can I continue having my iMac on Mojave or should I upgrade to Monterey? I do FCPX videos with this 27" iMac 2017 and I am comfortable with the present FCPX version I have on this system and am unwilling to upgrade to Monterey. I have an older 21-inch iMac. Can it be upgraded to Monterey and used as a display to my M1 MBA running on Big Sur? Can I edit videos while in Airplay mode?
Hello! I have a question i hope you can help with ^^ I have a 2017 model Macbook Air that has Monterey installed, I want to use the sidecar feature on my 5th gen Ipad Air but cant because Macbook Air 2017 does not support the sidecar feature anymore
I see tutorials on how to use sidecar on unsupported Catalina macs but struggled to find one for monterey. I was wondering if this video can fix my problem or do I need a different solution?

Great! thanks a lot for you to take of your time and patience to bring us into light with these matters. I followed the tutorial but when i do the reboot in a macbook 12,1 with bootcamp; the bootcamp disk shows the OCLP logo and when hit the boot disk windows is the one that boots. HELP!!
Hello Jeronimo, Continue holding down option after clicking on EFIBoot, then you should see windows and macintosh hd click on macintosh hd.

Thanks for putting this video together! Seems very clear and thorough. I have one clarifying question: will I be able to do this OCLP fix on my 2019 iMac 18,3? I have a M1 MBP and would like to Airplay to the older iMac. In the video you mention this working from 2008 to 2019, but the title only says 2010-2017, and I'm not quite sure how to interpret the list of supported devices, given the caveat note below that list. Any clarification on this would be great. Thanks again!
