I used to work at apple support. The only software we could suggest for anti virus software was Malwarebytes. ALOT of issues were removed with a scan, even internet connectivity, mail and browser dodgy extensions.. My best action plan was shutting down the Mac, going into safe mode, downloading Malwarebytes and running a scan. It removes the issues and upon restarting.

It should be mentioned that Chrome really likes writing to the drive which if you have an SSD *will* shorten the drive's lifespan. Heck, when the whole writing to SSD thing that came out after the M1 people found out of all browsers Chrome was the _worst_ in the amount of information it needlessly wrote to the drive - even on Windows.

All modern Macs have SSDs. The drive is constantly having cache data written on it. While SSDs do indeed have finite live cycles, it is not anything the average user will need to worry about. It is more a case of a slightly more predictable lifespan vs the unpredictable lifespan of a HDD.

I use CleanMyMac almost entirely for its uninstaller feature. While moving an app to the trash may seem the more simple option, you are only removing the .app file. Any other data the app has created will remain if the app didn't come with an uninstaller. Hunting down these various library files can be a pain and while they may not be doing any actual harm, I'd sooner remove an app completely. Not to mention these could add up over a long time if you install/remove many apps.

I’ve been a Mac user for over a decade now, and I own 4 Macs, both Intel and Apple Silicon.
I think a lot of Mac users that come over from Windows think they need all these programs, and they’re really counterproductive in many cases on a Mac because they’re either poorly designed, or simply not needed.
    1. Chrome is only a backup browser on my Mac for when safari can’t properly render a webpage.
Safari is my main browser, and my favorite on my Mac and iPhone.
    2. Don’t really use browser extensions because of the performance hit.
    3. I disagree with NOT having antivirus on your Mac.
I have Malwarebytes Premium which is is pretty resource friendly.
    4. I definitely agree with cleaner apps to an extent.
I KNEW MacKeeper would be on here. 😂
    5. macOS has some great image converting tools built in.
    6. Private Relay is all I use as far as VPNs go.

I like Edge, and used it for about 6 months last year. It's quite stable and performance/compatibility is very similar to Chrome (possibly even better). However, the big question is - how much more trustworthy is Microsoft than Google when it comes to your privacy/personal data? It's debatable, but I'd give the "edge" to Edge ;) Firefox is the gold standard however, open source, no telemetry etc. It's about as good as you can get without going full Linux + Tor browser.

I definitely want a dedicated video to privacy. I just switched to Mac after 30 years with Windows and it's been two years since I've ditched Firefox for Brave and never looked back. I find it to be outstanding, lighting fast and private. I get no ads at all, not even on UA-cam, NONE, ZILCH, no data collected and more. So I'm very curious to know what you based your "no Brave" recommendation on. I'd love to see truly consistent data. I loved Firefox and it's still my go to browser after Brave, but I still got ads everywhere on it and I'm not sure how private it is. So if you can shed some proper light on your claim against Brave I'm all eyes. Also, I appreciate Safari's speed but doesn't Apple collect data from it like Google even if they don't necessarily commercialise it? I do get ads everywhere on Safari, which for me, after being on Brave for so long, it's like going back a thousand years to ad chaos. Anyway, thanks for your videos, looking forward to more on this subject

I don't know a lot about computers, but as a lifelong user (now on a Mac) I notice that Google stuff doesn't play as friendly on a Mac like it does on PC. MS stuff doesn't have all the features like they do on the PC version. It's like the companies take their little digs against each other in weird ways. I just know if I use Chrome, it slows down to nothing and eventually crashes if I have a lot of tabs open (past experience). I had been using Firefox until they started the 'signin' process, but things got kind of odd there. Ended up on Brave (which I was told was ChromeLite) and have been there ever since. Only lately have they started updating every other day, and having crash issues. I do know that some apps work better on Chrome than they do on Brave (nich apps), which I thought was really weird. I have Brave squelched down, no wallet or crypto stuff, etc. And I have no ads on YT, which is tremendous. Dislike ads. But there are some on FB. Other than that, smooth sailing. I like to use Safari for private mode. Now that I hear Safari is unstable for businesses, I'll try that in Brave.
IMHO all the companies gather data and make money off anything until it squeaks. The only thing that bothers me is that - will they be using this in the future like China has been doing against their own people for political/control reasons?

However, I have some opinions. You mentioned that using an image conversion app is safer than using an online service. But a non-technical user may not know how to ensure the app is clean. A free app found on the internet may embed malicious in-app software to collect user data. Therefore, it's better to use OS-provided methods to convert images, or at least we should use well-known apps or apps from reputable companies.

NordPass has a zero track record until it will get one. It's a matter of time. Apple is big company that has something to lose (reputation, money, trust, markets) in any data security incidents and will hopefully do something to improve. Services like NordPass and many others might (not saying they do!) sell your data to 3rd parties intentionally while charging you a monthly fee, close the company or rebrand, and avoid being accountable for anything the same way it happened to multiple different VPN and others services on the internet.
I do agree with most points of yours, and I meant no offence. But that ad is just misleading anyone thinking it's better and safer than anything else, especially with the background of the video,
while it plays on the same field with other services and apps which should not be trusted, no, not with your passwords from your bank accounts.

I’m afraid calling out Firefox in favor of brave for example raises a harsh truth here. Believe what you hear and watch on the internet to whatever limit and belief system you prefer . Much of what is published here is a lure to sell traffic or products and near on everything is agenda driven and subjective
