This tutorial is so amazing! I've just installed Ventura on my 2011 iMac. I'm amazed that there is still life left in this old machine after so many years. Back in about 2016 it killed the graphics card and I took it to the Apple shop for help. They were not interested and told me to dump it and buy a new one. They said it would cost around GBP700 to replace the graphics card. So I gave up on the machine, but I did not throw it away. It remained in my garage in its box for the next 3 years. Then about three years ago I decided to take matters into my own hands and fix it myself. I bought a used graphics card from eBay and it worked for about six months and then died again. So I then bought a new graphics card from China for around $200 and that card has been working for about two years now. Then I faced Apple's obsoletion of the machine. I tried a hack to upgrade it to Big Sur a few years back but it kept on crashing, so I went back to High Siera. Until today when I decided to do more research about upgrading and then I found this video! Thank you!!
Just upgraded my work 2014 Pro to Ventura 13.6.3 with the latest oclp 1.3 and worked first time. The pace of your videos is perfect with you covering everything, awesome work Mr. Mac and thank you.
Thanks for this video. It took me 3 tries but I finally got it done. I have a mid 2011 iMac and could not update past High Sierra. Some advice, make sure your old OS is in good shape. Maybe do a clean install of the current OS before you start. Then, make sure you do a clean install of Ventura (erase the current HD) and then install. Finally, have a wired USB keyboard and mouse ready to go in case the install does not recognize your Apple Bluetooth keyboard. May not need it but better to be safe than sorry. Then GO!
Success! Just updated my mid-2012 MBP 13" with upgraded 16GB RAM and a 500 GB SSD. Did the erase and fresh install method and it runs like a champ with Ventura. Can now run the latest version of Logic Pro X. Many thanks!!
This is without doubt on of the best tutorials I have seen. I did look at OCLP in the past. My first attempt then failed. Today I looked at it again and was able to upgrade from Catalina on my Macbook Pro 13 inch, Mid 2012 to Big Sur 11.7.1 and run the update to 11.7.9. When I’m don with running all the updates of outdated apps I’m going to try to install Ventura, this will get me in line with our other mac’s in the house. Thanks for this great tutorial.
Previously used opencore to upgrade mid-2014 MacBook Pro to Mojave. Decided to try Ventura with the GUI version of OpenCore (0.6.8) using your video as a guide. Very concise instruction with helpful tips, no useless info. It took several tries to get an EFI that would boot, I don’t know what the problem was. Once that happened, Ventura installed but I had to run the root patcher to get the graphics and mouse working right. The unsupported MacBook is now running Ventura 13.6, which is a later version than my supported iMac (13.5.1). Thank you!
amazing work, watched both your tutorials on monterey and ventura and gotta say splendid just splendid. made an upgrade from monterey to ventura and all works flawlessly. God bless
Excellent: Mac min 2012 i7 (“server”), Catalina to Ventura 13.6 exactly as described, working perfectly (touch wood) with no subjective slowdown. Chose the upgrade path, so far no glitches. Excellent content, thank you
Perfect tutorial. With this I updated my Mid 2014 MacBook 16GB RAM to Ventura. And what actually shouldn't be possible, but I have the impression that the computer runs a little faster...
Thanks again for putting the effort in this updated tutorial. The previous tutorials have been of great help! And thanks to the guys at OCLP of course! Running MacOS Ventura on a 2017 MacBook Air, 2012 MacBook Pro and even a 2009 iMac :)
How well does Ventura run on your iMac? I have a late 2009 21.5" iMac that I just bumped up to 480Gb SSD and 16Gbs of RAM, and just spent all morning getting Big Sur on it. It seems to run pretty well, though I haven't pushed multiple apps much to try to keep the load off. If Ventura runs OK on it I might take the jump. The Nvidia 9400 GPU does give me pause though... not to mention the Core 2 Duo.
@@damoninlr I went with Ventura for compatibility, but sometimes I wish I could stick with an older OS as it really starts to feel at its limits. I use it mainly for emails, webbrowsing and checking electrical schematics at my work desk. The only issues are minor graphic glitches because of the non Metal GPU. I'd suggest just making a backup and giving it a try yourself though :)
Hi, thanks for all the videos. I got previous versions working on a 2009 pro. I'm stuk on this installer now with the USB 2.0 issue. I plugged in a USB mouse into the laptop, but doesn't work. Can you explain exactly what I need to control the mouse and keyboard?
@@juicythedj750 as many times as I've had to reload this poor machine, maybe I'll just give it a rest for a little while. :D If I were going to rate BS for performance on this machine, it'd probably be 7.5 out of 10. Not bad for a 14 year old rig.
I love my 2014 iMac with its beautiful 27" display and was gutted when it fell off the Apple Supported list. But I figured that I just had to live with OS 11 until I bought my next desktop. That is until I stumbled across OCLP and your excellent tutorial. Thank you so much!! The process was long (very slow data connection here in the English countryside) but it went smoothly thanks to your tutoring at every single step. I am delighted with my new functionality - and so pleased that there is a pathway for future releases. This team has thought of everything. Have been exercising my machine for most of the day and so far ... everything is working and no issues with the work rate. Have subscribed to your channel and look forward to staying in touch and up to date. Best wishes, Humphrey
@@cheesehead9980 Sorry I didn’t reply earlier. But just to let you know that as of today (4 months later) I have had zero issues with Ventura on my unsupported 2014 iMac. I have even used OCLP to update it to 13.6.3 with no problems. I will update it to OS14 once I get my faster data connection in February.
@@hcgervaisI recommend not to upgrade to Sonoma or os 14 it has many bugs and issues stick to Ventura, very much the same but better in my perspective. I downloaded Sonoma but now I'm searching for a downgrade😅 --Shaheenul😊
I followed this Tutorial to install Monterey 12.7.4 on my Late 2013 Macbook Pro 13 Inch Retina with 8MB RAM 1TB SSD storage. This procedure upgraded MacOS Big Sur perfectly. I used OCLP 1.4.3 to accomplish the MacOS upgrade. The only issue I ran into was after about 10-15 minutes of checking the operation after completing the procedure was I received a Popup informing me There was a Hash mismatch on the drive and I needed to reinstall MacOS. I have had zero issues with anything so far after a day of extensive testing. I even installed updated Safari 17.4.1 successfully. As I discovered, it may have something to do with resetting the SMC according to Apple Support. I am waiting to see if the Popup reappears before performing resetting the SMC. I used this tutorial instead of the Monterey one because I understood this better and the OCLP interface was closer to what I used. Thank you for providing such a helpful tutorial to extend the use of perfectly serviceable older, not Apple supported Macs with Apple supported MacOS.
So far I have installed OCLP on two Apple products using your method, a mid 2012 MBP 13" and a late 2012 Mac Mini (Core i5). The 2012 MBP was upgraded to a 512 GB SSD and 8GB of 1600 Mhz RAM and everything is running great so far. The Mac Mini was upgraded to a 1TB SSD and 16GB RAM and everything is running smooth overall. A few things I have noticed with the Macbook is the boot-up sequence takes forever, sometimes 3-4 minutes. The Mac Mini on the other hand boots up really quick. My Mac Mini and MBP use the same SSD. It's possible that the 1TB SSD is slightly faster. Also, I cant see how 16GB of RAM could cause the machine to boot up WAY quicker compared to 8GB. Another thing that I have noticed is certain hitches in Hardware acceleration while watching content and multitasking on another display. This may just be signs of aging within the machine, Its a Dual-core overall for crying out loud. Sometime I see major hitching and stuttering while transitioning my cursor to another window or display. It's not preventing the machine from working but its very noticeable. OCLP Ventura has been installed on my MBP for two weeks now and there hasn't been any issues (yet). Thanks for the help
Heeey, I have the same issue on my MBP, same as yours (late 2012 13") but with 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD. And in the boot-up it takes sometimes up to 2 minutes (´・_・`) And yeah, the hardware acceleration hitches are because of the age of the computer.
@@Meow5ki101 Ok, I was wondering. Maybe the next OCLP patch will fix the boot sequence time. Yeah I figured a old dual core from 2012 was going to struggle on a multi monitor setup running UA-cam. If I set the resolution to 1080p and not move my mouse on the other display; then it will not hitch and stutter at all. Stats for nerds on YT does detect dropped frames during normal video playback. BTW I use Firefox for Intel Mac. Not sure if that's the best browser for MacOS.
@@sir.fender6034 yeah, I'm trying to keep up to date for any update/notification. Also, I'm considering the idea of making a new fresh install, maybe it could resolve the issue because, in Monterey, threre was an issue on the post-install patches which caused the UI to display with lines on the edges. And the only way to get rid of them was reinstalling the whole OS, neither re-patching nor using a newer version of OPLG could solve the issue.
Thank you so much for this excellent tutorial. I just installed Ventura on a mid 2012 Macbook air. The installation went without any problems. The system is a bit slow but workable. All my apps which were no longer supported started to update. I am so pleased with the result. Thank you again.
Thank you Mr Macintosh. This tutorial has been most helpful for setting up an early 2011 MacBookPro 13" to install BOOTCAMP so I can have a Windows 10 environment on an early 2011 MBP 13". Setup AFPS partitions x 2 (not volumes) then install Monterey with OCLP on 1st partition. Install boot camp and run windows 10 setup. Then restore High Sierra on 2nd partition with older programs such as Aperture, iMovie, garage band, iTunes, iStopmotion etc, and to continue interfacing with older iPad Air and iPad mini devices. PS. High Sierra was a fresh OS install with Migration Assistance from TM backup to ensure no issues were carried over into the new setup. 16GB RAM with 500GB HDD testing with a view to upgrading to 1TB SSD prior to or at failure of HDD. Laptop still has near mint external appearance. Be interesting to see how long these units can last. Very satisfied with the upgrade.
Thank you so much for this tutorial, I installed Ventura on a 21.5” mid 2010 iMac and it works incredibly well! It will also be for the i5 680 CPU but I didn’t expect such high performance. The only note is a tendency to overheat in some situations, probably because the OS is designed for more modern CPUs and there is no scruple to use them. However, it has never exceeded 65 degrees and I imagine that a change of conductive paste on 13-year-old CPU and GPU would be beneficial but it is a complex and dangerous job for the myriad of connecters to manipulate. After all, it’s about holding out until the new iMacs with M3 CPUs come out 😉
Hello and thank you very much for this super video ! In the introduction you mentioned an issue with a MacBook Pro 2013 with a stuck progress bar after install/update. This is exactly what I get on my 2014 mbp since the oclp installation 1 year ago. After each update I have to enter fail safe mode at boot (left shift key) in order to be able to have a display and apply the root patches. I did not find any clue to solve this and I would be interested if you have some insights about this ! Thanks again !!
I just upgraded to Ventura on my Macbook Air 6,2 (Early 2014, 8GB/256GB) coming from Catalina. Everything went well on the first try. Thanks for your detailed guide! Edit: After 1 day usage, i can say this OS is really fast, no lags or whatsoever. I did not expect this :) Also, everything works fine like Control Center, widgets and even the animations are smooth.
Thank you for posting this video! Super user friendly, amazing instructions, and excellent detailed explanations. The amount of work and literature prep that you have done for this video is outstanding!!! Followed everything in your video and I was able to install OSX Ventura on my Early 2011 MBP i5 8gb ram, 512 gb SSD, and basic intel HD Graphic 3000 512 MB. Thank you for bring my computer back to life again :D The external Keyboard was not an issue at all for me in case anyone was wondering. I don't feel there is any lag, feels the same as it did on High Sierra to me. Also switching to Mozilla. I chrome is more laggy. Thank you so much for great upload.
@@Mr.Macintosh Hey! I tried this again on a different computer early 2011, MBP i7 16GB ram, and a brand new SSD 512GB. Your vids are amazing so decided to take the plunge. I have a spotless mid 2014 Macbook Pro with High Sierra (HS) and followed your instructions to the letter. Using OCLP 0.6.8 the install of Ventura went like clockwork with no updates required. Great.. until I noticed my battery on Ventura was only lasting half the time compared to HS, added to this the keyboard was always warm and it did not go into sleep mode when the lid was closed. No worries it was a fun experiment and I decide to go back to High Sierra. Unfortunately getting back to HS was a bit tortuous as I encountered problems trying to reset the Internal storage. I tried the OCLP install then the original HS install versions of disc Utility to try and erase the main drive. Each time after HS was reinstalled the OS disc utility showed up strange partitions. During bootup the screen was black for up to minute before the Apple logo appeared compared to the usual 5 or 6 seconds as if in some sort of recovery mode. Sorry to be this guy but since Catalina onwards sets up the internal Drive differently and with the added complication of the OCLP partition a simple top level erase just didn't work for me. I think you need to find other volumes or groups and erase them first before you do the main erase? Anyway the way I got round it was I eventally got my laptop into Internet recovery to upload it's origional OS which was Yosemite then up graded to High Sierra and in doing so this properly reset the Drive. I think it would be good to show the proper way to reset the Internal Storage before reinstalling a pre Catalina OS if the simple top level erase doesn't quite work. Of course I may just have made an error. Best Jim.
I successfully upgraded my mid-2012 MBP from Mojave to Ventura using OCLP and the procedure described in this excellent video. All apps are working normally except Keynote 14.1, which crashes every time I attempt to use it. I have un-installed Keynote and done a fresh install from the App Store, but still cannot get it to run without crashing. I have heard that others have had the same problem, and only an upgrade to Sonoma solved the problem. I would rather stay with Ventura for now.
The update went very smooth with your step-by-step video. Just updated my early 2011 (earlier updated with 500 gb ssd and 16 gb RAM) macbook pro with Ventura. Many thanks for this excellent video!
I think there is an editing issue at 22:30. Seems to quickly cut from you explaining to hold down option but then you are already rebooted. Seems like it's missing a couple of seconds that may confuse some people.
@sinjinhawke DOH! thank you for pointing that out. It should have said finish the OC install to your internal HD then reboot. I added a card in the corner that I hope people will see 👍
I got the same i juste pressed the power buton long time (5/6sec) for the mac turn off after i pressed again for it start and it automatically will start on "macOS installer" it will make installation again and it will work normally
Installed on MacBook Pro 13 inch, late 2011 (MacBookPro8,1). Couple of issues: had to do a clean install (erasing drive before installing), the trackpad stopped working during installation (had to use a USB external mouse) but not the keyboard, at the end of installation the OCLP did not open on its own -had to open it and do the Install OpenCore on the disk. Once rebooted, it did detect the trackpad without issues… Runs slower (to be expected), but can now use the latest version of Mathematica and other software. On the flip side, can not manage to get Sidecar working. All in all: great job to the OCLP team and thanks for the instructions!
This is my second message after upgrading to Ventura from Monterey. Ventura seems more stable and less resource hungry. fan speed and heat is less. The speed of the fan was main culprit in eating up the battery. Therefore if you need a good battery life don't go for an unsupported upgrade as one thing is sure that Open Core requires some ram for the functioning and processing which makes the system to dissipate more heat and leads to more fan noise and battery usage.
Thanks!!🙌 I can confirm a wired Mac keyboard dated 2015 on the back will also work against the issue for the 5.1 Mac Pro from mid 2010. A wired keyboard and usb mouse plugged into the Mac keyboard worked fine. My installation worked fine but was super slow, possibly due to being an older machine? (Xeon 3.46ghz 6 core and 32gb ram at 1333mhz) but also my usb stick took the whole evening to get open core installed onto it, no idea why as it is a 64gb branded usb but hey hi, it worked in the end!! Thanks so much for such a detailed and yet simplified video!
Truly amazing video! Worked flawlessly on my late MacBook Pro 2013. Only problem I'm experiencing is that I can't connect my bluetooth mouse. It stays on disconnected. Any solution for this? Would really appreciate an answer since I'm really dependent on my mouse. Tx!!
Oh man, you are truly amazing...I followed all your instructions and it worked very well with my MacBook Pro 2012. Thank you very much for all the work you have done. You are really very helpful. More power to you dear Brother and God bless!
Hello, I have just updated my MacBook Air 2017 from Monterey to Ventura and everything seems to work perfectly. Thank you very much for the video, I will for sure donate to you guys as you have saved me from buying newer MacBook just because of the MacOS update. Great job!
@@missm0neyK Hi, no issues with Ventura whatsoever. I tried Sonoma afterwards, because some of my SW didn't want to work under Ventura anymore and I had really a lot of issues with freezing and overheating with that one. Installation took up to an hour maximum. That OpenCore Legacy Patcher works well and it is quite intuitive. I even donated something to the group after a month or so.
@@MrDelaroche I'm happy to read your reply. may I know, the freezing & overheating issues got ok / better with Sonoma? thanks for sharing your experience.
@@missm0neyK The problems unfortunately stayed so in the end I returned my MacBook Air 2017 back to Monterey using OpenCore.., gave it to my wife and bought 2022 version MacBook Air for myself.
Thank you for this great series on installing newer MacOS on older Macs. About a week ago, I was able to install Monterey on my 2011 iMac. It runs great! I made the installation on an external SSD because I did not want to open up the iMac to switch out the old internal HD for an SSD. I made the Monterey installation with a thumb drive for the initial OCLP build and installation drive, then made the installation on the external SSD. Bottom line is, I am not going to use the internal HD. Since the SSD does not have a EFI partition yet, I cannot use this drive to boot up, and need to keep the USB thumb drive mounted. Right now, I'm not sure if Monterey is running off of the SSD or the thumb drive. However, now I want to upgrade to Ventura, and am wondering if I should prepare the current SSD drtive (or another SSD) with an EFI partition first (also keep Monterey in another partition)? The problem is that the popup window that appears when you boot from OCLP and asks if you want to boot from the internal drive does not see my SSD because it doesn't have the EFI partition, or any partition formatted as FAT32, so I can't take advantage of that feature. Do you have a suggestion and am I correct in my assumptions? Thanks again!
Thanks for this tutorial. I am now happy that loading Chrome and Edge browsers on my MacBook Pro 15" 2016 start as quickly as Safari with the latest 0.6.8 OCP. It has been painfully slow loading them (30secs) from about 0.6.0 version. Whatever it was, I am glad it now works perfectly with Ventura 3.5. Thanks for your great videos!!
Install worked amazing on my $75 2014 Mac mini I just received with the NVMe adapter. Installed on the NVMe and left the original boot drive in tact so I can bail back to Mojave if I want. Thanks for your video!
Awesome video Mr. Macintosh !! I just did it as an upgrade and it was much easier than I thought. I did an upgrade from Monterey all I had to do was follow all the steps up to choosing EFI Boot and install @16:42 and everything else was automatic all the way to login. And I didn't have to change the boot from the USB either. The patcher did everything !!! Tip: The patcher will see the old EFI boot file so make sure to choose the EFI Boot file with the yellow icon !!!
MBP 13" Late 2011 -- I noticed Low Power Mode under Settings > Battery is missing. my battery drains fast just recently changed with new battery as well.

I have exactly the same machine. Except for a Fusion Drive. It worked perfect with OCLP and Monterrey, but I’m considering updating to Ventura. How is your experience by now?
I had some performance issues @DreamboyCAT when I upgraded the OSX on top of Big Sur (which was on top of High Sierra). Then I performed a clean install (High Sierra was ages ago, lot of downloads en installs). Now everything works really great. The system works smooth and fast. Little dissapointed in Apple though; these machines will do for years!
Works like charm on my 10.1 MBP. After a few years Big Sur, Tried latest Sonoma first but ran stuck half way which became quite a mess as ignored your warning for a second boot partition on my USB drive. Had to shift, option, cmd+D myself to ancient mountain lion 😂 with all sorts of compatibility challenges with the current internet (safari and app store on mountain lion are near dead). Long story short i made it to stable Ventura and learned the hard way I shouldn’t ignore you’re tips & tricks. Now the 10.1, 16GB, 775SSD is blazing again as a young god.
Mr Macintosh, I'm grateful for your instructions, which for the most part, work as you say, however, I have had no success performing updates on my first gen 2015 thin MacBook (8.1). Each time I have to restore a full copy of Ventura, so now I ensure I have a Time Machine copy of everything first. Secondly, I installed Ventura 13.5.1 from scratch, successfully, but when I installed the 13.5.2 over the earlier full install, my screen flashed all the time. So now I am completing a 13.5.2 full install which I hope goes well.
Installed on my MacBook 6,1 successfully. Seems to be running just fine so far. I did have an issue with 3 repeated installation failures reporting an "error occurred preparing a software update". On the 4th attempt, it made it past this point bringing me to the Setup Assistant. Smooth sailing beyond that point.
@@davidjenkins1914 I also got this same error. I powered down, started again and let it run the installer again and this time it worked. So there is truth in trying again if it fails the first time. I hope it worked for you as well.

I have the same iMac 2011 27" with same AMD Radeon HD 6770M. Did you upgrade from original graphic card ? Did you upgrade from Mac Os High Sierra ? Everything working smoothly ?
@@sko556What do you mean if I upgraded from the original GPU? This iMac had default hardware. I only added memory and an SSD. I did not upgraded. In order to install Ventura with Opencore you need to do a fresh install. You can make a TimeMachine backup before formatting and then restore it back once you finish with the installation. Btw, the opencore install pendrive you need to build will be compatible ONLY with the machine you used to build it. If you want to install opencore in a different mac with different specs, you need to create a new opencore install pendrive for that device.

@@sko556 I did not upgraded the GPU. I'm still using the AMD that came with the system. And, like I said, I did not upgraded from High Sierra. Regarding bluetooth, I have not used it so I'm not sure if it works well. But the Wifi works well.
@@S1L3nCe Thanks for the reply. I think you upgraded from high Sierra to Ventura using USB drive and open core because such a long jump upgrade in OS cannot be done without USB and open core patcher. Trying to determine if I will be switching from a Windows PC for daily driver to a future new Mac Mini or Mac Studio. Appreciate the share!
@mfh9780 Thanks! I wanted to put it in with previous videos but thought it would make the whole thing too long, but after seeing a few people struggle to put the original OS back on when something went wrong I thought it was worth it

I tried installing Ventura on my iMac 11,2 (mid-2010 model purchased in April 2011) but my Magic Mouse and Keyboard had trouble being detected by the operating system. So you're saying that this issue will get resolved with a USB 2.0 hub during a reinstall, even though my mouse and keyboard are wireless?
Wow I can't thank you enough for this easy to follow video. I have a Mid 2010 27” imac that I loved and stopped using it a couple of years ago when it ceased being functional for my work. I had casually looked at repurposing it every so often but not to be and it was now time for me to relegate it to the computer graveyard…..then I stumbled across your video (thank you youtube for your eclectic algorithm), Why not give it a go. After a couple of hiccups which were completely user errors I now have a fully functional upgrade to Ventura. Amazing… with my 16G of ram it is almost as quick as my current 2020 smaller imac. I still have to figure out some minor connection issues with share and airdrop to my ipad but its amazing.
Just a quick update that might be of interest to owners of these older macs. Macs pre 2011 do not have blue tooth capabilities so I have ordered a bluetooth dongle to see if that will get the airdrop function working. Any thoughts or tips much appreciated
Thanks a lot, works fine upgrading my Mac Pro (4,1 to 5,1) from Mojave to Ventura. (nvme 2TB SSD) Will be trying my Macbook pro 2011 8,1 (Currently running High Sierra) next.
thanks so much! it worked on my late 2011 mac, it's got 1 tb and 16 gbs of ram and it runs great. there were some issues on my end but thanks to this tutorial i got it all worked out!!!!
Installed from 12.6.8. (Monterey) to 13.5.1. (Ventura) on my MacBookAir7,2 (13-inch i5 model) and it's working normally. Used OCLP 0.6.8. to update it and had no problem during installation process. If I ever encounter any problems during use I will come back to this comment and warn you of potential problems.
I ran across this video a few days ago and and was able to install this without much issues. I decided to do the dual Install OS USB and I downloaded the package file from your web site and somehow it didn't go as you described. I then went to Apple site and downloaded Monterey OS for my 2016 MacBook Pro 15. Seems like everything installed and is operating. Thanks for your video.
Thank you for this. I updated my 2012 mac mini to macOS Ventura. I don't have to worry about no longer being supported by apps until I'm able to buy M1 mac mini
Hey man, thanks so much doing this. I followed you step by step and was able to install Ventura on my early 2013 MacBook Pro retina. It took me a little over 3 hours with all the downloads but that’s just my bad internet. I have it running and it’s working so smoothly. So far I haven’t encountered any issues yet. Thanks man, you have my respect for doing this.
Nice video. I am still current with security patches on Mac OS Monterey, but eventually I will need to make the jump to Ventura or Sonoma. My 2016 MacBook Pro is still a useful machine. (Even the butterfly keyboard still works). I would like to stay current on MacOS rather than send an unsupported MacOS to recycle or the landfill when Monterey is dropped from support.
100% Agreed @lucidf8 You can also stay on Monterey until late next year as it will have Apple Security Updates. Big Sur on the other hand is already dead.
thank you for making this i love how far my old mac mini 2011 can go with a ssd ddr3 16 gb of memory the only things that dont work is maps and screen savers but i can live with that thank you again to the people who make sowing a old mac fun
Thanks so much for all the helpful videos, time and effort that you put in to them! I haven't been able to find if you've done a video addressing the security of OCLP, specifically on the latest version of OCLP and if all macs (even those requiring post-install patches) are benefitting from FileVault, SIP, Secure Boot, Vaulting, etc. Thanks again for your great work!
Hello @CosmicHiccup11 great point. The OCLP devs are always trying to find ways to use Apple's native security pieces. For example enabling AMFI was a big deal and the devs were able to do it. I recommend a firmware password and FileVault encryption for data security. Even though OCLP has to reduce some of the security to re enable apple drivers for our old hardware, it could be argued that Ventura is safer compared to high Sierra which has not received an Apple security update in years and is left fully vulnerable.
New question, it keeps asking me if I would like to boot my Mac normally without a usb drive plugged in however every time i install and reboot it and hold option it takes me to menu to choose between install Mac OS Ventura or my HD drive, I don’t see the EFI please help 🙏🏽
Thank you!!
sir if my update fails can i restart (all my data is on icloud)
this might be the best, most organized and planned out computer tutorial I've ever watched. Thanks for making it so clear.

What happens if you boot normally?
This is without doubt on of the best tutorials I have seen. I did look at OCLP in the past. My first attempt then failed. Today I looked at it again and was able to upgrade from Catalina on my Macbook Pro 13 inch, Mid 2012 to Big Sur 11.7.1 and run the update to 11.7.9. When I’m don with running all the updates of outdated apps I’m going to try to install Ventura, this will get me in line with our other mac’s in the house. Thanks for this great tutorial.
Thank you very much @MiDiCur !!! It is comments like this that keep me creating walkthrough videos
Just upgraded my 2011 mid imac from High Sierra to Ventura. Great guide! The process took almost 5 hours, but the machine runs flawless.

Thanks again for putting the effort in this updated tutorial. The previous tutorials have been of great help! And thanks to the guys at OCLP of course! Running MacOS Ventura on a 2017 MacBook Air, 2012 MacBook Pro and even a 2009 iMac :)
Glad to help @juicythedj750 !!! Keep those Macs running 👍

I did a fresh install on a 2015 MBP and it works a treat. Thanks for the tutorial.
And in the boot-up it takes sometimes up to 2 minutes (´・_・`)
And yeah, the hardware acceleration hitches are because of the age of the computer.
I’m going to try this with my Late 2014 Mac mini i7 dual core 3 GHz w/ internal 1TB SSD
@@3DCharacterArt Heck ya. Everything should work fine
Great explanation! Brilliant tutorial! Everything is clear and informative!) Thank you Mr. Macintosh)
Thank you very much @user-eq1er5lh3d !
After all, it’s about holding out until the new iMacs with M3 CPUs come out 😉
great thing to do is to change thermal paste to some good stuff like Grizzly and try to install software to control fans
The previous tutorial had a blurb about booting to safe mode, installing the patches, rebooting, and then reinstalling OCLP on the root EFI partition.
I just upgraded to Ventura on my Macbook Air 6,2 (Early 2014, 8GB/256GB) coming from Catalina. Everything went well on the first try. Thanks for your detailed guide!

Also, everything works fine like Control Center, widgets and even the animations are smooth.

Once rebooted, it did detect the trackpad without issues…

All in all: great job to the OCLP team and thanks for the instructions!

you, sir, are a gem, I'm much to tired tired tonight. but I will rest easy knowing I can get iMovie and garage on my new old MacBook.

Hey, I’m having same issue. Did you do anything different or just keep repeating install?
@@davidjenkins1914 I also got this same error. I powered down, started again and let it run the installer again and this time it worked. So there is truth in trying again if it fails the first time. I hope it worked for you as well.
Thank you so much,
I have 27 inch Imac late 2013 model, and No updates coming for it now, My adobe required me to update to ventura to get updates for softwares and I thought My imac will be only used for netflix now but I came accross your video and followed the steps and It went like smooth and no issues, updated my adobe package and everything like new system
Thanks so much again.
Simply Amazing Tutorial! I am a nerd who loves technology, and my 2012 Rock Solid Macbook Pro that has an SSD and 16GB of Ram. I followed all of your excellent and clear instructions and one of my favorite devices has a new life. Thanks again for the tutorial and to the inccredible OpenCore Legacy Patcher team.
i've got a late 2011 macbook pro that really got me into the ecosystem. Was running on catalina without airdrop/airplay, so many apps don't work properly... gonna try the upgrade to monetery. This tutorial is amazing i hope this works when i go for it tomorrow
Great tutorial, thank you so much for this--my Late 2013 15in MacBook Pro is running absolutely fine under Ventura now😃
Excellent tutorial Mr Mac. Just installed Ventura on my 2010 MacPro without any issue. Thanks very much.
Thank you for the great tutorial. I followed your step by step instructions to update our 2015 iMac that was running Sierra. Only one hiccup, but a shutdown/restart solved my issue. Thanks again Mr McIntosh!!!
Absolutely marvelous video. I successfully updated my aging iMac mid 2011 to Ventura this morning.
!!! THANK YOU !!!!
I can never seem to get this to work. I’ve use your old video and your new video. Although Open Core Legacy Patcher is one of the best programs I have ever used on my MacBook Air. It refuses to work on my 2011 15 inch MacBook Pro. I’m stuck on the screen where it says just a minute left. It’s been like this for over two hours now. Although this video sincerely helped when I installed it on my MacBook Air.
Hello and thank you for the ability to continue to use my Late 2008 aluminum 13" macbook! My question is: If I upgrade to Ventura will I need to use an external mouse and keyboard plugged into my two 2.0 usb ports on my macbook? Or will the trackpad and existing keyboard work. Thanks again for everything you and the people at OCL do!
Wow!! Incredible guidance video, thankyou thankyou!! I have a 2012 Mac mini rocking Ventura now, it’s totally a thrilling experience, able to get some software within reach because of this upgrade!
Great video but I wish u would have mentioned that it’s recommended that u do a clean install. I had already started to upgrade when u mentioned it just before the the second way to install. Thank you for ur hard work!!
Mid 2014 15-inch Macbook Pro with Intel Iris Pro graphics, Ventura 13.6 works fine, thanks for this tutorial!
I've just installed it in an iMac from 2011 with an AMD Radeon HD 6760M and it's working great! Your guide was very easy to follow. Thank you very much! 😄🙏
@@S1L3nCe Thanks for your prompt sharing. You answers helped me a lot. I have read in the discord web site that they recommend graphic card upgrade for 2011 iMac before using open core to upgrade to Mac OS Big Sur, Monterrey or Ventura. I have already upgraded to SSD and added RAM but I didn’t know how to upgrade the graphic card so I am still learining. One question I want to ask is if air play and air drop and blue tooth still work for iMac 2011 after upgrading Mac Os using Open Core or do you have to upgrade Wi-Fi and blue tooth card ? You upgrade Mac OS from High Sierra to Ventura successfully and everything is working very well ?
@@sko556 I did not upgraded the GPU. I'm still using the AMD that came with the system. And, like I said, I did not upgraded from High Sierra. I created the opencore pendrive Ventura Install from High Sierra but I formatted the SSD when installing Ventura, like it's explain in this video.
Even upgrade from Monterey to Ventura or Big Sur to Monterey need to use USB drive and open core patcher. Any way, I will review the videos when I am free and will decide on whether to do upgrade without graphic and wifi-blue tooth upgrade. I will try to take Mr. Macintosh also, hopefully he reply.
I followed the installation process step by step on my 2011 Macbook Pro 8.1 . Everything was going well until an error occurred unexpectedly with less than a minute left to complete the process. I try to restart the process. It would be helpful if anyone has experienced this issue before. Despite this little hiccup, I'm hopeful that the installation will work as everybody else has said. Thanks for the great tutorial. My venturA still working from USB CANT GET OPEN FROM INTERNAL HARDDRIVE
I had the same problem on my iMac 2010 then i restarted the computer and it ended the installation of Ventura. After about a week It seems to work surprisingly well!
For me, I had to restart, turn off the wifi, erase the data, and start installation process again.
Ventura
I7 6700HQ 2016 MB Pro 15 inch 16 GB External NVMe because my internal disk failed S.M.A.R.T and can't be used anymore
Most amazing tutorial, I have upgrade my MBPr 2012 easily, no issue at all! many thanks, everything is working great!
Thanks Mr. Macintosh. Process worked perfectly on an iMac 13,1 that I received from a client. Now running Ventura and am able to test all the latest software (Microsoft 365, etc.). Trying to determine if I will be switching from a Windows PC for daily driver to a future new Mac Mini or Mac Studio. Appreciate the share!
Thank you!!!!!! After a few hurdles I was able to get Ventura in 3 different computers!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for the great walkthrough. Running OCLP with Ventura on an early 2015 MBP with no problems
Great job with this tutorial, I really like that dual boot disc, wish I knew this originally. Appreciate your videos.
@mfh9780 Thanks! I wanted to put it in with previous videos but thought it would make the whole thing too long, but after seeing a few people struggle to put the original OS back on when something went wrong I thought it was worth it
Thanks, just installed Sonoma on my 2013 iMac. iMac has 3.1 GHZ quad core i7 with 16GB DDR3 RAM. Also I had previously installed a 1TB OWC Aura Pro X2 NVME drive. Graphics card is Nvidia Geforce GT 750M 1GB. Looking forward to trying FCPX on a larger screen with the new updates that has. So far runs fast and smooth. Also this was an update not fresh install.
Your voice is quite similar to Bryan Tracy's Very very clear and precise! Thank you very much for such detailed work! Bravo!
(nvme 2TB SSD) Will be trying my Macbook pro 2011 8,1 (Currently running High Sierra) next.
best upgrade tutorial ever! awesome work! thank you!
From Catalina to Ventura iMac Late 2012. I am so happy thank you so much!! ❤❤❤
thanks so much! it worked on my late 2011 mac, it's got 1 tb and 16 gbs of ram and it runs great. there were some issues on my end but thanks to this tutorial i got it all worked out!!!!
Thank you!!! Macbook Pro 2015 15 inch with Ventura installed. Excellent tutorial!!!!
I updated my 2 iMAC (Mid 2012 and Late 2012) to Ventura. Thank you so much!!!
Thanks! Looking forward to many more OCLPs installs and updates!!!
Thank you for this video fr.. took me about a day to fully install but worth it now my 2012 iMac runs smooth n can get the latest version of apps.
Thank you for this. I updated my 2012 mac mini to macOS Ventura. I don't have to worry about no longer being supported by apps until I'm able to buy M1 mac mini
Thanks a lot!! I was all set to purchase a new one from the marketplace but you made my day .. THANKS A LOT
Running now on MacBook Pro mid 2015, thanks for all your hard work!
How is the battery and the performance versus the big Sur?
Thanks Mr. Macintosh for all your hard work putting these videos together and including the contributors of this great piece of software!
Thank you @Noemivangom 👍
