Well, I went with a Gibson SG Junior and a Origin 50. The Explorer will be my next and final guitar.

I still prefer the mid-2000's models with the 500T/496R pups in them.

Possibly. I thought those had the 498/490 set but either way, both are a winner.

I agree! I have one from 2006 and love it. I really like the 496/500 pickup set so I left it stock.

Dude 2006 is a great year for the Explorer! That's the same year as mine.
