Thank you for calling out the forearm comfort on the V. I bought one 4 months ago it's a dream to play ergonomically. I wish I'd bought an epiphone version when I was younger.
@@guitarmovies even sitting down, the right hand/elbow further forward is funner; as well as left hand in the frets 8 and up range. 1-5 fret rhythm area is a little harder for the left hand to reach but no biggie. Again, sitting position is ergonomically optimum for active lead/rhythm playin up the neck a bit. I shorten the strap tho for sit down mode tho or she’ll slide away from you.
Nice review. Weirdly, I love that sitting style for playing electric guitar. Sometimes I lean a little back just to wedge my LP in the arm of the chair to raise the neck. Additionally you can just wear a strap. Again, nicely done, Sir. On to your LP special review, a guitar of which I also have one. ✌️
I've got a faded cherry mid-2000's 67 reissue. Got it just before the price jump and for $699 even though I was just going for strings there was no way I could have walked out without it. I always wanted a V and $699 for a new Gibson V?? A week later there was another one there with a $999 price tag... Same exact guitar, gig bag combo... I honestly think someone screwed up but hey, whatever... It's got the 496R/500T pickup combo which I love but I'm more of a hard rock player. I've learned they're a love it or hate it pickup... As for sitting, I've found that if you straddle your one leg and put the lower wing into your calf you can adjust your other leg to support the body and give you a good playing angle. It works, but it's just so amazingly well balanced standing it does kind of ruin the fun a little sitting and playing.
Man, I had an Epiphone "korina" v. I was really surprised how great it sounded. The neck was a little rough, but a very versatile guitar. Let it go to pay for a plane ticket.
I've honestly never played a gibson v but possibly yes.. I have a gibson sg and the rr3 pro white with pinstripes and between those 2 its a hard call. Both really inspire me. What I find is that for extreme metal or blues/rock the jackson can do both amazingly. The sg is good for everything except extreme metal
I have the exact model , bought it in Australia cost me $2550 ( yeah, I know)The only issue it has is a slight over spray on the side of the fret board, other than that It's spot on. It has the orange caps in it for a middle range sound.
I picked up one of these at American Musical. It never stays in tune, especially the G String. There is fret buzz on the frets. Should I get a setup? The bridge burstbucker is Alnico 2 magnets. Is some cases the pickups get muddy! Have you ever had this problem?
Angel Martinez Definitely sounds like you need a setup if you’re getting buzzing. Tuning issues could be a few things, but I’d lube the nut (I use a pencil) and see if that helps. As for the pickups, I absolutely love the sound of my Flying V. If I had to close my eyes and pick one guitar based solely on tone, it might be my Flying V. We had a rocky start, but the more I play it the more I appreciate it.
Getting my first Flying V tomorrow.... Its just a Boston Kit guitar but already assembled. Its cheap and a perfect to upgrade with a few Gibson Humbuckers i had bought a year ago. So if i like the shape and form and function i could buy the real thing...
@@miguelriquelme144 its different and takes time getting used to. Its not a lap guitar. This thing is made to play live. If you want to play sitting you have to rest the v bottom on a leg to prevent it from sliding. Its not my fav. Guitar. But it looks so cool on stage 😎 and standing up it plays well. Acces to the lower frets is a Dream.
@@Indobiker61I want to buy one, but I was afraid it would be too bad to play and access the upper frets. I play in home for fun, but I still want to have one. By the way, I have an stratocaster, and I going to buy online, so it has to be a really well made decision what guitar I want.
Gibson flying v. First gibson I ever had and to this day is still my baby. Maybe 25 years old but she still hummms. The quality issues you had must be they went down hill. When I was a kid I never heard of these issues. I usually buy vintage anymore off personal sellers. It cost way to much to get an ok guitar and ever more to get a dream
Which Burstbucker is that in the neck? I had a BBpro in the neck of an LP studio and hated it...but maybe I should have given it a bit more time and adjustment!
I don't where else to write this, so I'll do it here: Listening to numerous anecdotes about quality issues with Gibsons, I've heard the same thing you said - "how come they ship a guitar with this or that problem? How's it possible no one notices?" - I kind of had an epiphany... Could it be that the workers at Gibson do it on purpose to sabotage the company in response to the apparent terrible working conditions and remuneration? Maybe the only way they have to speak up is to make the company look bad so it goes broke despite its "efforts" to stay alive, I mean, if I was working at some company so handcraft-oriented like a guitar one, I'd want the company's image and reputation to excel because my craft is behind that, why would I shoot myself in the foot by being so blatantly mediocre? The only logical explanation is because said company is treating me and my work like garbage (all those leftover guitars bulldozed years ago, etc)
I question getting such a late 50’s , car fin inspired?, example of space age cool in a natural wood finish. Obviously you should buy the guitar that’s best for you, but have you considered that the choice of natural wood finish for your flying V was a monumental error? Thanks for the videos. All the best🎸

How to play a Flying V while sitting down: Wear a strap. You need the strap at all times, regardless of whether you’re standing or sitting. (The same rules apply to an Ovation acoustic.)
No need to spend all that money on a Gibson. Just buy an Epiphone and change the pickups and tuners and you're good to go. That's what I did and it turned out to be my number 1. The quality control at Epiphone is better anyway Gibson can't even paint a flying V without screwing it up. Many videos about the poor finishes on new V's. One great thing about a Flying V is that you don't need a guitar stand. Just lean it against the wall it stands up all by itself : )
