  • Happy Monday! We just got a ton of awesome new guitars, basses, and amps in over the weekend - to start it off, we've got an incredible 1976 Gibson Explorer and a 1977 Marshall JMP Mk2 Lead half-stack in the fawn tolex! This Explorer is in remarkable condition, with only a few minor marks on the beautiful Alpine White finish, and minor tarnish on some of the gold plating. All in all, its in original condition and a great playing first-year Explorer reissue. Then, we have this fantastic Marshall half-stack that is super loud at 100w, looks awesome in the fawn finish, and has a modded second channel by Rick Erickson. We lucked out today when Aaron Hiebert stopped by, so we put him to work with this killer combination!
    For more information on the guitar or amp, please give us a call or email as these just arrived in the shop, and will be on our site soon!

    Tarbacks are great pickups but they suffered the misfortune of being paied with 300k volume pots and 150k tone pots . Which in many cases choked their tone and made them sound dark but with 500k all around the become one of the best pickups ever made . The clean tones are amazing and they have so much clarity with overdrive and despite internet rumors they are not just a potted t top . They are very different. They were designed by bill Lawrence. They reason people think they are potted t tops is because they have t for bobbins but the bobbin is the only similarity. The wind is completely different and they have ceramic magnets and they came as calibrated pairs. The neck is unusually 5k to 5.2 I and the bridge fall between 7.3k and 7.8k but the ceramic magnet gives then the ability to punch above there weight the sew my favorite pickups for an sg . I think 70s sgs are criminally underrated

      @@bobolsen8067 So true. Growing up playing Gibsons in the 70/80/90 they had had darker and beefier tones/ Why do all Gibsons sound like single coil Strats now. Stop the madness Gibson and stop making your guitars so light like your using balsa wood. Gibsons use to be big and powerful. You ripped out the Big block and drop in a 2 litre without even a turbo. BTW get someone to play with that amp cranked. on this end sounds like the mater volume is on maybe 3 and the pre-amp volume is wide open. Stinky tone

      @@lovingpeace9715 The original Gibsons of the golden era (50's/60's) had a way brighter and chimier tone than the muddy sounding stuff they produced in the 70/80/90's... Glad they got back there at least a little bit and also stopped using low quality and dead sounding wood laminated in 7 pieces like they did under norlin... I agree on the tone of the Marshall though

    It’s funny how things change as you get older. I remember in the 90’s when I was into JMP MV models, every time I was looking for them it would half the time be a fawn one. I was always “Man, not another fawn one”. I wanted the traditional color. Now I guess fawn is rare? Lol. Great to see Jay still doing EC and hope they’re doing well. Good guy and it kind of trips me out to see his son full grown in the vids as I remember when he was just a little guy. When he was starting to be in the shop more it would throw me as they’d call out Trevor and I kept thinking they were talking to me...lol

    Can we get an "Artist Spotlight" on Aaron? I've seen him so much on this channel that it's starting to feel like a one-night stand that's lasted years... at this point, I feel like I need to know the guy better. One of my absolute favorite EC videos was Tyler giving us his amazing knowledge on PAF pickups (really wish there were more shop/tech videos like that one). I understand the risk of "personality" style videos, but that's just my two cents.
    I'd also like to hear what the players have to say about the guitars after demoing? Maybe like an overdub, or a summary by them? Just their own thoughts about how the guitar feels/responds from their literal hands-on experience. Don't get me wrong! I love the pre-game analysis, but I'd also really like to hear a post-game wrap. Doesn't have to be too in-depth, just another perspective.
    Don't misunderstand, though! These videos are some of my favorite day-to-day viewings (so I suppose there is something to be said about "If it ain't broke, don't fix it").

    • @chuckyz2
      @chuckyz2 4 роки тому

      I hear ya. He's probably not to social. He must do nothing but sit in a room alone and practice to be that good.
      I wish they would at least show the amp settings and speakers every time. If they are straight in and what else they are using if not. And. something nobody does, show the volume and tone settings on the guitar.

    • @hkguitar1984
      @hkguitar1984 4 роки тому

      I also wish they would show a B-Roll footage of the amplifier's controls as they were set during the demo.
      Hearing the Players thoughts about the guitar and how it feels/plays would be pretty informative too.
      That said, at the end of the day these videos are only for the purpose of selling the featured instrument/amplifier, and in that respect I would think they do well.

      What I believe you are seeing is the reflection of the diffuser pattern of the dedicated studio photo lamp.
      Otherwise one would think there was some form of a material pattern sort of embossed into the top of the headstock's lacquer.
      I really think it is a reflection from the photo lighting.
