    Just got that same explorer. I love it. I am still getting use to the body style. But I chose it over the sg for a balanced guitar with no neck dive. Still might try the sg someday. The Burstbuckers have to go I am putting Duncans in it. Sh5 and 59. Great review and I agree. Thumbs up for my 2020 explorer. Love it

  • @C_Masi

    I love explorers but i prefer them with hotter passive alnicos or ceramics. But even with the burstbuckers it still sounds pretty sweet. I have played explorers with everythibg from 57 classics to emgs. I think I agree with you that ideally this guitar reaches optimum versatility and balance between cleans and heavy gain when it has the hotter pickups. But having said that, pickups arent everything. If you have a good setup, right amp, right strings, right settings and gear, right pickup height, etc you can make the lower output pickups sound pretty solid too. There are alot of factors.

    Definitely get a seven string and use Bb standard more if you get the chance, idk if you’ve heard of them but there’s a Death Metal band by the name of Revocation that uses that tuning a lot. They have some of the tightest riffs I’ve ever heard, Definitely give them a listen!

    • @xanderraymondcharles
      @xanderraymondcharles  6 років тому

      I think seven strings are lame but I def know that band I agree they’re sick

    • @xanderraymondcharles
      @xanderraymondcharles  6 років тому +1

      hey man honestly I just don't really like the sound of seven strings. Most people have them and then just bang on the low b or a and disregard the rest of the strings. I love 8 strings because I feel like it's a completely different instrument. Plus animals as leaders and meshuggah use them. For me I just feel like a string string is a gimmick

    • @Stretchwreckedem469
      @Stretchwreckedem469 6 років тому

      Stay Metal Ray you can trust me when I say seven strings aren’t a gimmick bud, I play in Drop A on a seven string and plan on getting a six string set up for Drop A with the b String for six string Drop A tuned to F# instead of G. on a seven string I keep all of the first six strings tuned like regular standard tuning, but on a six i tune it A E A D F# B. The reason why I keep them tuned separately is because with the G tuned to F# on a six i can play it like I would Drop D or Drop C, while with a seven I have two tunings in one. I usually play some crazy chords with the seven because of the seven allowing me to use two tunings at once, and with an eight string I hope I get to have even more tunings at my disposal.

    • @xanderraymondcharles
      @xanderraymondcharles  6 років тому

      I aight man cool agree to disagree. I just don't like em

    • @Stretchwreckedem469
      @Stretchwreckedem469 6 років тому

      Eric Sanchez basically there are two ways I use Drop A. One is with a seven string tuned
      A E A D G B E, and the other is with a six string tuned A E A D F# B. It’s kind of hard to explain but F# is supposed to be what the G string was originally tuned too, but people started tuning it up to G in order to be able to make chord shapes easier. That’s why standard tuning for an eight string starts with F# on the lowest string.

      Dude such a hard question. I think if I had to pick it'd have to be a les Paul; however, I would create something unique as my "signature". I would have a Strat style body with a stop tail piece like all Gibsons have. That bridge is what I grew up on and it feels like home to me. So maybe like the Jim Root Strat with a Gibson bridge? Anyway i do really like this guitar which is very very nice and whose weight is very low. To me this is my fav' guitar so far. And not because this is a Gibson made in America ( i'm not a patriot like you because i'm from Europe) but just because this guitar sounds great and is easy to play. rosesI am looking a guitar to play classic rock, AC/DC, Zepp, Sabbath, Beatles, Stones that kind of music. But I like metal too, Metallica, Megadeth, do you suggest getting another guitar? I am not a big fan of Floyd Roses. I had a Schecter E-1 SLS Evil Twin with Fleischman Fluence Modern and there are good for "chugging" but not for playing leads on the bridge. The problem with Ceramic Pickups on the bridge pickup is that the notes on the High E, B and G, when I play an open D Chord don't sound as bright.

    did you get used to the awkward wing with your right hand? Also pushpull is not a gimmick.. use it with the neck pickup on clean for acoustic guitar like sound, and bridge with some distortion WITH MIDS for fender hot tones. Of course you didn't hear anything with the mids at zero.

    Stay Metal Ray....Thank you for sharing this awesome review. The Explorer sounded pretty good, but once you set it up with your choice of pickups, I'm sure you will enjoy playing and enjoying it more. I love my American Strat HSS and my American LP Traditional Pro lV. Yes, the Les Paul has the locking tuners and split coil pull knobs that you do not care for, but for me it's ok. Great video my friend, and keep up the great work man! Love your tattoos!!! 👍👍🎸🎼🙂.

      George thank you for the comment and the awesome feedback. I love les Paul's as well, but the push pull pots just aren't my thing. Idk maybe Im old school haha. Thanks for liking my tattoos! I got them when I was in the Army stationed in Germany

      Stay Metal Ray thank you for your kind reply. I also thank you for serving our Country! My brother Rick was in the Army in his younger years. He also served in Germany. He got an honorable discharge after being attacked from a terrorist who put a bomb under his VW car seat. He survived, but had alot of therapy to go through. He got back in the states in 1984. Bought a new Harley Low Rider and two new Ovation guitars, a 6 string, and a 12 string. That was in the days when they were built better. He gave me the 12 string and we used to jam like mad! We did an hour long set recorded on a cassette tape and called it Craziness! Anyway, I won't talk your head off, just want you to know how much I enjoy watching your videos. Have a great Father's Day my friend.

      well I thank your brother for his service as well. Lots of us got banged up, but thats okay. We enjoyed it. It's always good to come across guys such as yourself who can talk life, music and just be a good person over the internet. There's a lot of negativity on here, so it's refreshing to find positivity.

      I will let Rick know for thanking him for his service. I understand about the negativity, but I tend to shy away from it. Life is too short for BS! That's one reason why I love your channel, not to mention your inspiration to get me to start playing again! Take care my friend Ray.

    The 2018 GIBSON EXPLORER is BAD-A$$ all the way. I bought the ELITE 'AGED CHERRY' version and it sounds ALMOST as good as my 2017 Les Paul STANDARD...wanted to see what someone else thought of the EXPLORER.... and I also knew it could not be a bad review...the MINI GROVERS are the best Non-Locking Tuning Machines on the market right now.

    Dude I want the Lzzy Hail Explorer so bad! So far I haven’t played a Gibson that wasn’t great. The way people talk every other guitar off the line is crap. Lol Dream Theater? Swear I’ve heard of them 😂😂😂🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

    Can any of these young guys play lead guitar.?
    If to want to see how a explorer is supposed to sound like, listen to Allen Collins from the old Lynard skynard !!
    When guitarist knew how to play.
