  • This evening I rented a towable Man Lift from a local rental yard to do some tree trimming around the house. We go over the operation of the unit in this video as I set it up and trim trees with my Stihl Pole Saw and Stihl GTA 26.

    I rented one of those towable lifts a year or so ago to take down 3 trees. It was awesome to use. That little pruning saw would have made my job a lot easier. I used an 011 which got heavy after a while. Another great video! Thanks guys!

    Thanks - that was very useful since I've been considering renting one of those tow behind lifts to trim several large pin oaks in my yard (mostly to clean out some of the dead branches). Probably use my tractor to move the lift around in the yard since it spreads the weight out and would handle driving in the yard better than my truck.

    Pretty slick machine.
    I had 7 skylights in my last house and no problems. I did have double cell shades for the 4 in the heated area (the other 3 were on the enclosed porch and the garage). Now you can get solar powered rain sensing skylights so they can be opened on days that will be hot but there may be a T storm before you get home from work.

    It is recommended to not prune oak trees in the active growing season because there is a high chance of introducing oak wilt through the open cut. It is recommended to do the trimming in the winter months when the trees are dormant. FYI.

      @@chizzelfingers Oak trees are susceptible to a dangerous fungal disease called oak wilt. Even though oaks are strong and mighty, this fungus can take down even the most robust tree. It most commonly occurs whenever someone prunes a tree during the wrong time of year, also known as summertime.
      Tiny sap beetles spread oak wilt from tree to tree, and they are the most active from April to August. These unwelcome visitors seek out oaks with fresh prune cuts, where they leave behind this fast-spreading fungus. Unfortunately, oak wilt is often fatal.

    Good morning from NW Ohio! Happy 4th. We all need to be appreciative of the freedoms that we enjoy, and many times, take for granted. Love the lift video. The last time I ran one, it went out of level when I was maxed out up in the crotch of a huge oak, and I had to hand pump it all the way down so I could re-level. Great times!

    That man lift sure was the safest way to do the job. My son and I rented one to install a stainless steel chimney on his two story house and it worked great except the controls on the man lift worked but all the decals indicating what was what was so faded they could not be read so I had to operate it from the ground as a rank amateur. It got hairy a few times but we got the job done without incident.

    These lifts are definitely a game changer.Several years ago I was talking to my neighbor about how I was really having second thoughts about having to get up on the extension ladder and changing a dusk to dawn light that I had put up thirty five years ago,, and without hesitation he said that he had just purchased a bucket truck, and that I was welcome to use it any time. Since then I have used it
    many, many times from installing gutter covers, trimming tall trees, changing multiple dusk to dawn lights and repairing a damaged metal roof. I guess all of those years of supplying him wood for his smoker and outside fire ring and tending to all of their farm animals whenever they are away, paid many dividends.

    • @jasonpinckney2178
      @jasonpinckney2178 4 роки тому

      Lifts are a truly a gift. I deal with a metal roof and not much solid lip surrounded by a lot of uneven ground so the extension ladders are a nightmare when it comes to doing high work. Actually had a gentleman doing an install on our roof and misjudged the stability of his ladder, if I hadn't caught it and body braced his ladder he would have been looking at a long 40' drop. Nothing beats a stabilized hoist.

    I built an earth contact home in 1991 and I have 3 Velux Skylites on the back of my house about as tall as yours but wider and about 6 feet apart and that is likely where you are losing HVAC. Rafters too close together and little insulation in between. Those lites should have argon gas and yours look like Velux too. I design doors and windows along with custom millwork for a living. I have a bank of Andersen 400 series windows on the front of my house and it is always cold. It's not the windows, there is just not enough space between to insulate like they can today. If anyone else is experiencing the same thing it is probably the insulation. Get one of those thermal guns at your box store and point it at the glass then between the windows, I think you will be surprised. The products I mentioned are high quality. You would have to get in to a Peach Tree product to do much better and a house full of them would make your truck seem like pocket change! lol

    I only found out that this kinda lift a few weeks ago. Never even saw one! But used scissor and telescoping boom lifts professionally for decades prior. My brother needed an economical shelter to store his 35’ tow-behind in during the off season. A hangar tent was the solution. We tried renting step ladders to reach up to the 16’ peak, but it was too slow, too clumsy, too risky. Then we saw a local Home Depot rented this contraption. Hitch it up to your pickup and go! Almost perfect solution for wrangling steel tubes quickly up at height! All electric, used for two solid days in freezing temperatures and the battery pack didn’t flinch.
