Yep, same thing here, except it's now 2020! And now with the Wabbajack auto mod list installer, it's so easy to set up a heavily modded Bethesda Game! I'm reinstalling all my TES & Fallout games and replaying them!
Thanks for bringing this to my attention; made me watch some of his guitar videos. Currently trying to think of a cooler combo than Oblivion power gamer and classical guitarist, but I'm still blank to be honest.
I spent so much time trying to get this shit and after literal YEARS of trying it I finally got how it works: Basically, say you want to level up efficiently your STRENGHT, INTELLIGENCE and ENDURANCE alright? First off you start by choosing as a major skill one skill of each of these attributes, for example: STRENGHT - you choose Blade INTELLIGENCE - you choose Conjuration ENDURANCE - you choose Block Here's how it works: Every time you level up 10 times any of the major skills you chose, in any order (for example you level up Blade by 3, Conjuration by 3 and Block by 4) you're going to level up. If you want to level up efficiently, focus on one attribute at a time: STRENGHT If you level up Blade 3 times, you have to level up a minor skill governed by the STRENGHT attribute 7 times, so you have 10 total skill points earned in STRENGHT in that level. You level up Blade 3 times, then Hand to Hand 7 times. 3 + 7 = 10, so you'll get +5 in STRENGHT. INTELLIGENCE You level up Conjuration 3 times, then Mysticism 7 times so you have 10 points earned for INTELLIGENCE and you'll get +5 INTELLIGENCE ENDURANCE You level up Block 4 times but before that you level up, say, Heavy Armor 6 times. 4 + 6 = 10 points earned for ENDURANCE so you'll get +5 ENDURANCE Of course be careful to level up all your minor skills before hitting 10 points for the major skills, otherwise you're going to level up without getting +5.
ye but isnt this boring ? i started playing with a correct build but if i dont run and do the minor skills which is grindy i will level up and wont have a +5. i chose heavy armor and blade . so i have to get 5 and 5 on each for the +5 on str but at the same time i play a mage so i will lose the +5 on other attributes . to do it you need to grind minor skills every level for 30 minutes adn then play for 30 minutes
@@jakardvalentine3377 Yes you have to be pretty committed to it. You can do it without grinding that much if you do it in reverse. For example if you run a mage like you do, instead of choosing say Destruction (which you use a lot) as a major skill and say Alteration as a minor skill, do the opposite. Choose Alteration as a major so you only have to level it up 3 times and you can safely use destruction as much as you want since you have it as a minor skill and it's not a big deal if you level it up a lot.
It's 2023 and i've been playing this game religiously since 2008 and i'm just now getting around to efficient levelling. This video explained it perfectly.
I've spent 40 days on this game literally trying to perfect my character design . I've made more than a hundred characters over and over again because I wasn't satisfied with my custom class. I always wanted to play on very hard and master every step of the leveling system. Trying to get 3-5's every level . Constantly starting over and over and over again. I Fucking hate this endless cycle of nonsense. I wish I was a noob, I wish I sucked at oblivion and never worried about this . I remember the good old days when I started oblivion . The days that I didn't even worry about making a custom class or perfecting my character . Until the day that picking a Breton and a high elf became a nightmare. Choosing the 7 major skills correctly . Using a blunt weapon most of the game even after you chose blade as your major but I didn't want to level up , starting a new game at level 12 because you realized that choosing block blade and heavy armor is keeping you from getting +5 in endurance. Starting over again because I stupidly chose mercantile as my major so I can control my leveling, but only made me angry because restoration was a better option . STARTING AGAIN BECAUSE MY CHARACTER IS TOO SLOW WITH SPEED AT 35, AND HEAVY ARMOR IS MAKING ME RUN LIKE IM HANDICAPPED. Starting over because I chose high elf and I'm getting raped in oblivion realms by literally everything. FUCK YOU OBLIVION . This horrific nightmare still haunts me today . I was playing oblivion today and I just gave up . There's no such thing as a perfect character , it's make belief . We all want it but never got it. Screw you Bethesda . You did this on purpose . My life is never going to be meaningful unless I make the perfect character .
The Arena is so damn satisfying with a perfect character. Makes Owyn's intro dialogue about his grandmother being stronger than you that much more hilarious. He has no idea who he is talking to.....
One of my favorite spells is Drain Health 100 in 100 feet for 1 second. Makes those 3 v 1 matches end pretty much instantly. Also made a lethal weakness spell that I pair with a damage spell. Basically 100% weakness to everything but poison for 10 seconds, stacked with the burden + drain strength thing you mentioned earlier. I finish them off while they can't move with a spell that has a 100 point each Drain/Damage (Regular)/Fire/Frost and Shock Damage combo all on touch (To make the cost lower). Feels so unfair sometimes, it is basically a public execution at that point. If my calculations are right, that is 1,300 damage with a single attack (Assuming they don't have any initial resistances).
Thank you so much for this guide! I have recently got into gaming and have stumbled across this gem of a game. Hope you are doing well after all of the years since this guide was made!
I tried having Armorer, Block and Heavy Armor in my Major (leveling) skills. The first rule of efficient leveling is to get +5 Endurance every level until max, 100. I would hit 100 around level 14 and could not let a single point into any other major skill.
I was introduced to the elder scrolls with Morrowind and it was my favorite game as a young man. When oblivion came out my friends and I played it until there was nothing left to play. And now I’ve learned I haven’t been leveling correctly my whole life lmfao 😂 I had to start a new character immediately after watching this video
just started Oblivion yesterday. so confused on skills/attributes and read so many conflicting things. finally found this video. clearly know what you're talking about so I am so grateful for this guide on how to start. thank you. now if only I could create a real human instead of a monstrosity
Best mod I ever downloaded for Oblivion is the one that makes you gain +5 to any attribute that you have leveled (even if you only leveled 1 point). The thing I love the most about Oblivion is the gameplay, the stories, exploration.. and it completely removes the tedium/anxiety of having to level efficiently or track your skills. This video is great though if you enjoy the skill farming and complexity of Oblivion's leveling system.
Dude I watched your video a few years ago when I first started playing Oblivion. I had an obsession with creating the strongest character possible, and this video was a huge help on figuring out the 5/5/5 or 5/5/1 system, and why Endurance is so important to max out first. I started keeping an Excel sheet to record my skill numbers after every level up, and plan out which attributes to raise on each level. Maxing out every attribute and skill is half the fun for me. Anyway I appreciate this video for getting me on the right track. I'm on my 8th or 9th playthrough and I've fine-tuned all the advanced strats by now, basically achieving God mode by getting 100% reflect damage/resist magic and two-shotting every boss with the Hatreds Soul bow and arrows. Oblivion has become my favorite game of all time.
I have a 100% reflect set and it's really fun aggroing all the guards in the imperial city and watching them kill themselves on me. Thanks for watching!
I really like this video! No idea of how I stumbled into it but I was feeling an itch to play oblivion again when I did. I had no idea the leveling was so complex as the last time I played I went in blind and just did whatever. It seems incredibly interesting and I'm glad you made a fairly detailed and easy to understand tutorial/explaination about it.
The one rule I stick to when I set out on creating a max-stats character is that I always pick one major skill for each of the 7 different attributes. My current character has these Major Skills Strength - Blade Intelligence - Conjuration Willpower - Alteration Agility - Marksman Speed - Light Armor Endurance - Heavy Armor Personality - Illusion Pick and choose as you like, but sticking to this rule will allow you to spread the 10 Major Skill points per level up across the 3 different attributes you want to train, and gives you a choice of 9 skills to use at any time. I do this to try and negate some of the issues that are built into the oblivion levelling system. If you need to sell stuff to get rid of excess carry weight or make some cash, you’ll run the risk of increasing your mercantile skill. Equally, preventing yourself from levelling up athletics & acrobatics is virtually impossible when playing the game. If you aren’t arsed about a lost skill point here or there then it’s not an issue, but if you’re trying to get perfect stats it can be a real ball ache getting a skill increase in something you didn’t want to increase. Having one major skill for each attribute that you can consciously decide on wether you’re going to use it or not is a massive help.
I'd recommend just roleplaying a character you like, and if the game has outlevelled you around lvl 20, just slide down the difficulty a little bit. I find that more nejoyable than being forced to grind endurance when i want to be pure mage or stealth.
i dont get the "chose useless stuff as major and not level it up so you can controll it" thing... i love oblivion, but im too much of a roleplayer to make big thoughts on how to level up - still, great video, wish you had more on oblivion!
Ya I picked it up again and everything I’ve read says different things, seems so counterintuitive to NOT level things that it seems like you should be leveling...
Because if you gain too many levels quickly in the major abilities (by putting stuff there that levels quickly) you can level up before having +10 +10 +10 in your chosen three attributes. If you overlevel your minor skills you wont accidentally level up. Its still inefficient to have +11 or more though but at least you can get +5 +5 +5 easier when you level up. Putting skills you barely use in major skills makes levelling up harder though so I prefer to make my majors stuff I use Morriwind was amazing because you just did a "preparation" of going to a trainer for your skills associated with the atrribute and paid them the necessary amount of times before going out to play the game. This way you guaranteed +5 +5 +5.
I figure out a way to maximize my level in this game but it was like 15 years ago. All I remember was that it was ass backwards. Hopefully this video will remind me.
One tip that helped me very much was: Don't chose skills that you use often as you main skills. If you want to be a tanky warrior, you must take magic or dexerity based skills. Don't make much sense roll play wise but that's how this game works. And never ever waste a point in charisma because it useless.
Cavare Envius I have done that in Morrowind. I wanted to be a pure mage and built a warrior high elf. That means you can beat the whole Vvardenfell at Lv 1 because how skilled your enemies are. Edited: this mage became Archmage at Lv 1 and Archmagister Telvanni at Lv 2.
Absolutly OP character build = Altmer + Vampire + Atronach + 100% Chameleon (just to be safe since Altmers have low HP). With all the Attributes and Skills capped this build is just insane. First, with so much mana you'll be able to cast custom spells that have a VERY high mana cost but will simply destroy pretty much anyting in front of you and honestly, not having auto-regen for the mana isn't much of a problem, there are a lot of ways to gain mana and the Atronach sign already gives Spell Absorption 50% on Self to begin with. Second, in true vampire form your Athletic and Acrobatics will both reach 120 (and even more with enchanted stuff, the Felldew exploit etc...) so you'll run and jump like crazy. And finally, 100% Chameleon allows you to be almost always completely undetectable so no need to really worry about the character's low HP. I admit this build is a total game-breaker, but that's exactly the point, and why I like it so much. Being a vampire demi-god can be so satisfying after all! :)
I got the perfect regimen for a Warrior: Go to the Arena, get heavy armour arena rainment, spawn skeleton, get hit by it to level up minor skill heavy armour (Endurance). Then, punch the shit out of it for Hand2Hand skill (Strength). Conjuration will level so either use that to level up or make it a minor skill. Sleep in the bedrolls for instant HP and Mana recovery.
@@NotCharAznable Imo it's only poor design in terms of it's user friendlyness in modern gaming, you gotta know how it works. But once you do it's just another regular leveling system
@@NotCharAznable You'd have to explain what part of leveling is "a chore" and what it means. All you need to do is just use the skills and level up after all
You're a Genius, i read the wiki before watching this, but i wanted to search for a walkthrough or a video explaining this but i only find your video, lucky for me. So thank you very much for this great explanation video!
Great video! I'm getting back into gaming and was thinking of picking up oblivion but I remember how hard figuring out leveling up was. Thanks to this video I am not intimidated by creating a wrong character set up
you know what i like about you... you show your face. not alot of gaming channels i watch do that. it adds a personal touch. and i can see you talking. its something i like for sure. you got yourself a sub
I gave your vid a like and I don't do that often. Just started playing again after 10 years. Just started a third character after watching your video and reading UESP. Breton female, Mage sign, Endurance + Luck attributes, Stealth specialization. Majors are Armorer , Blunt , Hand to Hand , Heavy Armor , Destruction , Light Armor , Mercantile . I think there's something to be said for not picking a major skill that you have a racial boost for ; to allow more level-ups. Choosing luck as a favored attribute to allow more level-ups. Mercantile was slow to level for me so I picked it. I use blade only, block a lot and level with light armor for now. I also got some great tips from your comments, like the boots of springheel jack comment so thanx for that. Super video Mr. Stewart, thank you sir.
Very informative and something I wasnt aware of. I normally just roleplay what I envision my character being, but this is very handy to know in a Hard playthrough. ty for sharing.
Thank you so much for explaining this, was wondering why i only had 2 attributes ups when i leveled, I was extremely overleveling my skills and not leveling the minor ones enough
Thankyou so much for this. I've been searching the Internet for a while trying to figure this method out, and you made it exceptionally clear and precise In your explanation. Great video, cheers!
You can absolutely make beautiful characters in oblivion without any mods at all. If you are interested I can probably put a video about this together. Granted, if that is something people actually want to see.
This video made me realize that the Lady might be the best Starsign for mages. I usually grab a sign that increases my magicka pool then max endurance and intelligence. The Lady lets you max Endurance two turns sooner, while providing you with an extra 50 health at max level (if I'm doing my math correctly).
This was so well done thanks for the info! I also recommend using alchemy and duplicating (scroll glitch) cheese slices and apples to train intelligence for more mana alongside endurance for more health!
mana is just a multiple of your intelligence, and doesn't benefit from having it higher earlier, unlike health, which is a bonus per level, based on endurance.
i haven't played Oblivion since the PS3 was new just picked the game of the year edition up on Steam for 70% off today this helped to get me back into the weird leveling system
Okay this is late. But I’m replaying this game... and I. Using your advice to level my character. I never realized how powerful you can make a character through the oblivion leveling system. Good video
Great video! Dave, I found your channel and subscribed after seeing your The Force Awakens review and have enjoyed your content immensely ever sense. However it is awesome / weird that you are ALSO into something as obscure as efficient leveling in Oblivion! We share many of the same interests.
So glad this was on my recc. im really good at oblivion already. been playing for years and have a good memory of how to do everything in the game. gotten to the point where im bored with default classes.
Oh man, I haven't played Oblivion in forever. I remember I had a character that invisible ( I "crafted" items that gave 20% invis to items with grand soul gems I think) and it basically broke the game, haha. I miss the days when developers would still make single player games
@@buckhunt6832 sigil stones can grant you chameleon. 100% chameleon let's you do whatever you want to a person and no one will attack you. The gray cowl of nocturnal and armor with 100% chameleon go hand and hand together.
What i hate is when developers turn single player games into multiple player. They cared more about the aspects involved in multiplayer than the rich storylines single player game had. - Take Fable 1, & 2 on xbox 360 for example - i was sitting in a few parties when fable 2 had been out for awhile, all people talked about was, what job they had in game, who's having sex with whom ,and what diseases they got lol. Im thinking, '' what about the storylines..?'' Anyway i remember a friend of mine had an argument over the fact that his gfs character had sex with someone else's character instead of his. lol that was so ridiculous to me.What you do in a game has no reflection of what you do in real life. I also remember a girl in a game calling me childish because of my avatar. She obviously thought that my avatar reflects me in real life lol so i said look..i come on xbox to let my hair down an relax. Im having fun..not being serious. I save that for the real world. Get to know someone before you judge them.
Informative video. I’ve watched this before many times but it never falters in its usefulness. As for Acrobatics, I found you get more levels by jumping off of cliffs and taking damage. I think it gives you levels based on how much damage you took on the fall, so it’s handy to have duped health potions.
This leveling guide is very good. Thanks for the endurance tip by the way David. I am still at the beginning of the game..In my cell leveling sneak all the way up to 100% Yup..just tape that controller stick shut and let her rip. Anyway i use the style where you just make all the skills you can control fully to level up but not really need. Meaning i make almost every magic skill my mayor ones. I am Always the Assassin type of warrior so i don't move that much upright attracting everything like a magnet. So skills like Light Armor or Heavy armor. Just don't wear it or don't get hit is basically the jist of it. Everything is managable except for the skills where you either move or require to fight. So whatever you are fighting with..do not make it a mayor skill. The rest is basically counting. Every 10 points you go up in a skill gives you 5 points for your perk it governs. I love to make the game completly managable that way. With that said i totally raise that endurance first choosing the warrior class or Lady next up. Strenght is definatly a good second then magicka to boost magic. Good thing is you can raise 3 perks with 5 points every level. So that can be raised all in tandum if you train the right skills. Personally i Always get Sneak and speechcraft out of the way from the get go. Train them to level 100 as fast you can and check in 5 points for them. There are plenty of skills left to raise it's governed attribute to a full 100. And for the record. I am playing the unmodded ps3 version of the game. I am just not a fan of modding period. I have seen what it did to games like Skyrim. Lots of neat stuff but it really does not make the Original game any better. It just drules out the playtime. The game was and still is wack on its own. That said some mods do look handy. But when i play i am pretty good in counting and knowing what i raise. It is really not all that hard. Even jumping or running can be managed if you like me literally sneak all the time.....ohw and don't jump LOL.
Be careful. If you level up sneak all the way you will get +5 attributes boost for Agility only. When it comes to a fight you will be way behind your enemies unless of course you can sneak kill them. The idea for this guys video is not to race stats up to 100 but to ensure every level up you gain +5 skill multipliers.
On strength vs. speed: Remember, your movement speed is a product of your speed, and your current carry weight/max carry weight. This means that to increase movement speed, there are 3 avenues of approach. The first is the most obvious, increase speed to increase speed. The second there is only so much you can do about, and that is to carry less junk, lower your carried weight and you will move faster But the other, less obvious, but most useful way imo, is to increase strength, which increases your max carry weight. This not only makes you move faster, but also increases your fatigue, and increases both melee and ranged damage (I know str effects marksman in morrowind, I might be wrong about it's effect in oblivion but I'm pretty sure it increases damage for ranged). If you are ever torn between choosing strength and speed, pretty much always go with strength.
The ratio for points per luck is 4 points per 10 in luck, in case you needed it, up to a max of 20 invisible bonus points to all skills except for acrobatics and athletics
A way I used to do it was, I chose a dark elf, picked the thief sign, used magic as the specialization, blade and destruction as two major skills, the rest can be whatever you don't want to use, then for minor skills it was hand to hand and conjuration as the two substitutes for intelligence and strength which will give you an easy +5 in those two categories. Whenever you wanted to really actually level up, you just use destruction magic, as for blade, find the master trainer and lvl up +5 every time before you have to rest, you can do this to the point to where if you really watched what you lvl, you can get a +5 in all attributes before you have to rest, even though you can only choose a few every level up. You'll notice that all your attributes will be all about 50+ when you first start the game out as well. That was my battle mage build though.
I know this video is old but I appreciate the guide, very detailed and straight to the point! Oblivion is available for streaming on PS5 via PS+ and I thought I’d give the console version a go because it forces me to play with no cheats and no mods, although the frame rate is horrible. 2023 feels like an alternate reality, I never thought I’d be playing Oblivion on the PS5 hahaha, seen it all now.
I play Oblivion on PC without mods because i'm a complete idiot and have trouble figuring out how to install them...but in 2023, this game, in my opinion still holds up really, really well for a single player game.
Damn I wish I watched this video sooner. I’m level 28 and everything in the game kills me so easily right now. I’ve literally been doing everything you said not to do. Not getting 5 points. Only focusing on my major skills, I picked all the wrong skills, and I haven’t put anything into endurance. Probably why I die so quickly. Probably gonna have to make a new character but at least now I know what not to do. Thanks
On max difficulty, when you have full absorption. Magicka only affects you if it's a reflected spell. Atronach is brutal early game. Late game, it's the best. Customize your own spell, with 100 mysticism you will absorb telekinesis. Use that to recharge your magic.
+Zentikk My 7 major skills are athletics, acrobatics, destruction, restoration, mysticism, illusion and mercantile. I usually choose illusion ad mysticism because I can level up whenever I need to. The other 5 I can lvl up slowly or inadvertently. Keep in mind that you have to lvl up other skills, besides the abovementioned, in order to lvl up 3 attributes 5+ each.
+Alex da Vinci What abautt Specializiacion? Combat, Magic or Stealth? I guess you went Combat becasue athletics and acrobatics will grow faster with Stealth and could be less contronable?
+Zentikk Choose whichever one you want to spend the least effort leveling up. Stealth is nice because it actually can be difficult to level sneak with "normal" play, but armorer and block are very annoying to level up as well.
This guide is great. I'm making a knight character that uses restoration and destruction. Those mage skills seems the most likely magic a knight would use. So i got restoration, destruction, blade, heavy armour, block, athletics and acrobatics as major skills. I purposely left out armorer out so i can max out endurance as soon as possible. acrobatics and athletics don't pose an issue, because it's optional if you wanna power level acrobatics, and athletics levels fairly slowly especially if you fast travel. Won't be doing too much running around. First attributes im maxing are strength, endurance and speed. Then once those are done, agility intelligence and willpower. Personality and luck i will be leveling once i have 100 in those other 6 attributes. So i will be running around in light armour, without blocking and once im done powerleveling light armour i can use repair hammers on my damaged armour to level that too. I'll increase my strength by using blunt weapons. when i level my intelligence, willpower and agility, i'll power level sneak, alteration and mysticism. I would power level conjuration to increase intelligence, but im using that skill to summon skeletons to power level blunt on. As for levels, once i've leveled up my skills enough so i'll get 5 point bonuses for the attributes i want, i'll power level acrobatics to level up, since it's the fastest and the easiest.
thanks man, i was searching for this since last year in july but i couldn't find a thing. i really appreciate that. nice work man really. (i'm sorry about the poor english, i'm brazilian ;c)
+David Stewart thanks xD, maybe you could make a gameplay of oblivion doing this efficient leveling. but it's just an ideia, if you're busy i understand
I personally like to make my warrior have major attributes with stuff that I never use like speech, hand to hand and illusion. Even though I knew about efficient leveling I learnt so many other things as I watched your video like getting stats over 100. I will do some research on that. Thanks a lot man! Subbed
Illusion is overpowered when you master it and create custom spells. For example, create a frenzy+invisibility spell and you can make enemies fight each other without anyone attacking you. The next one that I realy like is command humanoid+ command creature with a large aoe and you can basicly create a army of followers. One of the most OP spells in the game is paralyze. I recommend you give it a try.
Brilliant video, lots of information and great clarity. I'll be playing the game casually i think though without worrying about maximisation. But still this is pretty necessary information for a deep understanding of the game i feel. Thanks!
My character was a male redguard under the zodiac sign of the thief to get bonuses on speed and agility. This made those attributes on par with Strength and Endurance (all of them were at 50). When creating the class, I distributed the 5 additional points to intelligence and willpower, which were then 35 each. As main skills I chose: Strength: Blade Intelligence: None Willpower: None Agility: Marksman Speed: acrobatics Endurance: Block, Heavy Armor and Armorer (all 3) Personality: illusion (but i don't use it at all) I designed this character because I wanted an all-rounder that combined tank, Marksman and wizardry. In the first few levels, I leveled intelligence and willpower, along with one attribute of my main skills, by +5 each. I was able to level sorcery very quickly because I only brewed mana regeneration potions to train alchemy. These main skills allow me to level my skills in a fairly controlled manner.
To be honest. Rarely Do I ever actually even level physical stats (Endurance, Strength) Because I find it Super fun to just Create OP Spells, Like "Superior Fortify Health" or something.
So my understanding of your system (which i like btw) is that for every stat you pick a skill that is scaled by it to basically level everything at once
When you're making a character you really want to chose skills that your not going to be using for your main skills. This way you level up your skill points faster than your combat level therefore making monsters easier to kill. This is an important tactic when playing on Legendary right off the bat ( Which I always do )
one thing is that hwen i got oblivion for my 360 years ago i would find my character become a non-factor around level 14 if i didn't level efifciently, everything even a simple wolf would become super lethal
The same exact thing happened to me. And if I ran into a mountain lion it was an instant death. And don't get me started on those bastard bandits suddenly showing up head to toe in glass or ebony armours lol.
My question is "How do you determine what the best three stats to work on are? How do you prioritise the skills you choose to raise to increase those attributes?"
For the birth sign, I like to go with Steed, I’m fine missing out on some bonuses if it means I move faster than a slug on a treadmill to start, and it’s great for any build, the only other one I get is Shadow for stealth builds, but there are spells in game that do the same effect so I’m usually inclined to Steed
Luck increases the value of random treasure, and greatly increases the chances of the special effects of power attacks actually working. So paralyzing, disarming, knocking people down etc will happen very frequently. It's not a crucial stat, but 100 luck makes the game actually a lot easier, even later on.
I have never once done any of this and I never have any trouble with this game's difficulty. I have been playing this game on and off since its release and I can honestly tell you that unless you are playing with the difficulty slider in the 85-100% range, 'Efficient Leveling' is pointless and will only make you hate yourself and hate the game. The character I am currently playing can practically three shot a Minotaur Lord in and I play with the slider around 75... No efficient leveling. As long as you have a general plan and you're not a total nunce, your character will be effective. Still, it's great that this guide is out there for those that want to play like this. I personally just don't see the point.
You should make a lets play with efficient levelling it would help so much. And I am pretty interested in the way you play this game. I usually do the good guilds first then the evil or the other way around so I cant use the shrines due to infamy. I always leave knights till after the evil quests that get infamy so I can completely wipe it. That might just be me though :P I don't really fast travel either because you see some cool shit.
If pc can press the "~" button above tab to activate console, then type "Setdebugtext 10" then type "tdt" to toggle on/off which can be pretty much a "skill diary" replacement
Well damn, I'm on console so I can't get the book. It'll be a little harder for me but I guess I'll need the shivering isles dlc to get my feldu addiction if I really want to obliterate people into oblivion (no pun intended, okay, maybe) on what I'm assuming to be "master" difficulting judging the increments in which the slider moves when you hit rb/lb or rt/lt.
Gotta love that feldew. It's also an old game at this point, so you can probably run it on any modern PC (even a cheap one) without difficulty. Steam sells it pretty often for like 3-5 bucks with all the dlc (including OMG HORSE ARMORS), if you want to consider that.
David Stewart Sweet. I'm still on the consoles with the 360 and PS3. I usually tend to find older games after playing the newer ones. I did the same with Dark Souls. Started with Dark Souls 2, found Dark Souls 1, and ended up getting a PS3 for Demon's Souls. Always late to the party here.
One thing I can say is that games do not on average get better as time goes on. The opposite, in many cases. What improves is the graphics, and good graphics do not make a good game. Old games a great.
That's always my point when someone argues graphics matter. In certain cases, possibly, but growing up (if I still had the systems) I played games with what would be considered "poor" quality graphics wise yet have a better and solid story to it than most modern day games. Every era does have it's white buffalo games though.
2019 and I'm still coming back for the knowledge when i crack open oblivion. Thanks again
Same, playing it on my ps3.
Got back in a few days ago!
I'm playing it also
On Xbox 360, trying mage now. I’m so confused. It’s like “Wanna be a mage? Well don’t choose any mage skills as major skills”
Yep, same thing here, except it's now 2020! And now with the Wabbajack auto mod list installer, it's so easy to set up a heavily modded Bethesda Game! I'm reinstalling all my TES & Fallout games and replaying them!
Oh my god, the guy who helped me with classical guitar nail filing, now helping me with oblivion! I salute you!
Wow. Points for that.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention; made me watch some of his guitar videos. Currently trying to think of a cooler combo than Oblivion power gamer and classical guitarist, but I'm still blank to be honest.
I spent so much time trying to get this shit and after literal YEARS of trying it I finally got how it works:
Basically, say you want to level up efficiently your STRENGHT, INTELLIGENCE and ENDURANCE alright?
First off you start by choosing as a major skill one skill of each of these attributes, for example:
STRENGHT - you choose Blade
INTELLIGENCE - you choose Conjuration
ENDURANCE - you choose Block
Here's how it works:
Every time you level up 10 times any of the major skills you chose, in any order (for example you level up Blade by 3, Conjuration by 3 and Block by 4) you're going to level up.
If you want to level up efficiently, focus on one attribute at a time:
STRENGHT
If you level up Blade 3 times, you have to level up a minor skill governed by the STRENGHT attribute 7 times, so you have 10 total skill points earned in STRENGHT in that level. You level up Blade 3 times, then Hand to Hand 7 times. 3 + 7 = 10, so you'll get +5 in STRENGHT.
INTELLIGENCE
You level up Conjuration 3 times, then Mysticism 7 times so you have 10 points earned for INTELLIGENCE and you'll get +5 INTELLIGENCE
ENDURANCE
You level up Block 4 times but before that you level up, say, Heavy Armor 6 times. 4 + 6 = 10 points earned for ENDURANCE so you'll get +5 ENDURANCE
Of course be careful to level up all your minor skills before hitting 10 points for the major skills, otherwise you're going to level up without getting +5.
Davide Stefanizzi this is it, the formula we’ve all been waiting for :D
@Kraken Entertainment LLC Probably, yes. I'm italian and in italian it's resistenza, just an overlook.
ye but isnt this boring ? i started playing with a correct build but if i dont run and do the minor skills which is grindy i will level up and wont have a +5. i chose heavy armor and blade . so i have to get 5 and 5 on each for the +5 on str but at the same time i play a mage so i will lose the +5 on other attributes . to do it you need to grind minor skills every level for 30 minutes adn then play for 30 minutes
Omg yes
@@jakardvalentine3377 Yes you have to be pretty committed to it. You can do it without grinding that much if you do it in reverse.
For example if you run a mage like you do, instead of choosing say Destruction (which you use a lot) as a major skill and say Alteration as a minor skill, do the opposite.
Choose Alteration as a major so you only have to level it up 3 times and you can safely use destruction as much as you want since you have it as a minor skill and it's not a big deal if you level it up a lot.
“Personality is probably the worst attribute.”
It’s true. My life can attest to this.
It's 2023 and i've been playing this game religiously since 2008 and i'm just now getting around to efficient levelling. This video explained it perfectly.
Great video, took me forever to find a good oblivion character guide
Thanks for watching!
Stair Stands 12 same here.
Never give up, it is possible, grind like your life depends on it and join us in our overpowered glory!
If you play on PC you can download a simple mod to get +5 every time you level up and finally immerse yourself into the game the way it was intended
If you don't give a shit anymore there's a mod that gives you 5 skill points for just 1 associated skill level up
Getting addicted to felldew after you have raised your attributes is really helpful. Information like that is hard to find. 💯
Thank you so much for this guide! I have recently got into gaming and have stumbled across this gem of a game. Hope you are doing well after all of the years since this guide was made!
Doing great, still playing this and Morrowind and making content on it from time to time.
I play as an Orc War Cleric:
Endurance
Willpower
Blunt
Block
Heavy armor
Armorer
Destruction
Restoration
Alteration
It’s lovely 🥰
I tried having Armorer, Block and Heavy Armor in my Major (leveling) skills. The first rule of efficient leveling is to get +5 Endurance every level until max, 100. I would hit 100 around level 14 and could not let a single point into any other major skill.
Alt is such an easy skill grind I got to 100 in like an hour just by casting open easy lock on a door
saving at the exit is GENIUS
I was introduced to the elder scrolls with Morrowind and it was my favorite game as a young man. When oblivion came out my friends and I played it until there was nothing left to play.
And now I’ve learned I haven’t been leveling correctly my whole life lmfao 😂 I had to start a new character immediately after watching this video
just started Oblivion yesterday. so confused on skills/attributes and read so many conflicting things. finally found this video. clearly know what you're talking about so I am so grateful for this guide on how to start. thank you. now if only I could create a real human instead of a monstrosity
Try the better faces 2 mod. I think it minimized the "wax mask" look from 2006.

I watch this before starting each new character and I still manage to fuck it up.
The way you present this info makes it so much easier to digest compared to other guides I've looked at. Thank you!!
Your background makes this look like this was recorded back in like 2007 or whenever this game came out was lol.
I put well over a thousand hours into oblivion but I never knew about the fel dew thing. I have to replay oblivion now
Got to admit.. the Feldew trick is a new one on me! Can't wait to try it out
The one rule I stick to when I set out on creating a max-stats character is that I always pick one major skill for each of the 7 different attributes.
My current character has these Major Skills
Strength - Blade
Intelligence - Conjuration
Willpower - Alteration
Agility - Marksman
Speed - Light Armor
Endurance - Heavy Armor
Personality - Illusion
Pick and choose as you like, but sticking to this rule will allow you to spread the 10 Major Skill points per level up across the 3 different attributes you want to train, and gives you a choice of 9 skills to use at any time.
Thanks for watching. Keep in mind this is an optional playstyle.
Putting skills you barely use in major skills makes levelling up harder though so I prefer to make my majors stuff I use
Morriwind was amazing because you just did a "preparation" of going to a trainer for your skills associated with the atrribute and paid them the necessary amount of times before going out to play the game. This way you guaranteed +5 +5 +5.
I figure out a way to maximize my level in this game but it was like 15 years ago. All I remember was that it was ass backwards. Hopefully this video will remind me.
I built my character COMPLETELY WRONG.
don't worry, everyone builds their first character wrong.

@@beefitsum7955 Yeah, some people don't play the game :D
That doesnt make sense to me. My character is working fine though :D
I think he meant spells created by u, that are custom, u can make them in the mage guild for example... its part of the game
Yep, that's exactly what I was talking about. :)
100% chameleon is cheap ass bull shit
100 chameleon on any race can kill anything. I beat Jyggalag on the highest difficulty using that.
My vampire orc would like a word with complete immunity to magic and of course berserker rage
wonderful guide, now i can finally make a badass battlemage.
You gave the best description about why people do this and how it works. Thank you!
Thanks so much for watching!
Why are all the best videos made on my birthday?
The heavens favor your sign.

This video made me realize that the Lady might be the best Starsign for mages. I usually grab a sign that increases my magicka pool then max endurance and intelligence. The Lady lets you max Endurance two turns sooner, while providing you with an extra 50 health at max level (if I'm doing my math correctly).
Amazing video, I played Oblvion since I was 12. Still I learnt something ne.
I want a video of you rapidly pressing the space bar
This was so well done thanks for the info! I also recommend using alchemy and duplicating (scroll glitch) cheese slices and apples to train intelligence for more mana alongside endurance for more health!
mana is just a multiple of your intelligence, and doesn't benefit from having it higher earlier, unlike health, which is a bonus per level, based on endurance.

@@urbansk8r231 sounds like a you problem
Informative video. I’ve watched this before many times but it never falters in its usefulness. As for Acrobatics, I found you get more levels by jumping off of cliffs and taking damage. I think it gives you levels based on how much damage you took on the fall, so it’s handy to have duped health potions.
In oblivion it's a flat modifier only based on if you took damage not how much damage.

On strength vs. speed:
Remember, your movement speed is a product of your speed, and your current carry weight/max carry weight.
This means that to increase movement speed, there are 3 avenues of approach.
The first is the most obvious, increase speed to increase speed.
The second there is only so much you can do about, and that is to carry less junk, lower your carried weight and you will move faster
But the other, less obvious, but most useful way imo, is to increase strength, which increases your max carry weight.
100/200lbs moves slow
100/500lbs moves fast
Thanks for the tutorial. You are an 'efficient' tutor. I'm starting a new character right now! :D cheers
+Sum Cuet Thanks for watching!
I always choose 5 skills I wont be using regularly. I also pick 2 skills to use whenever I want to level up. This way, I'll level up more efficiently.
+Alex da Vinci what are those 2 skills for example and that 5 you wont using regurarly? thx for aswering
+Zentikk
My 7 major skills are athletics, acrobatics, destruction, restoration, mysticism, illusion and mercantile.
Zentikk Whichever one you prefer. I use to choose combat because it lvls up blade and blunt much faster.
+San NoeL Thanks for watching! Don't apologize, your English is fine!

Subbed
Here I am after 3 years for some years lmao. Btw how do you use a tremolo on your spacebar?
Illusion is overpowered when you master it and create custom spells. For example, create a frenzy+invisibility spell and you can make enemies fight each other without anyone attacking you. The next one that I realy like is command humanoid+ command creature with a large aoe and you can basicly create a army of followers. One of the most OP spells in the game is paralyze. I recommend you give it a try.
@@ivanvoloder8114 Lol that must be interesting, thanks
@@ivanvoloder8114 Most people use "damage fatigue" instead of paralyze because it's much cheaper magickawise and they stay on the ground forever
I needed this video. Thanks man.
I wish I found you years ago, you're awesome sir
I haven’t finished oblivion yet, but I’m almost there
This is awesome thanks I have always wandered how it all worked, it's so confusing
First quest I do when I get out the tutorial area is The collector 10k gold at the start is nice so I can get a house and the akaviri sunderblade
And thank you for the guitar tremolo lesson 😀 you're a real God
Brilliant video, lots of information and great clarity. I'll be playing the game casually i think though without worrying about maximisation. But still this is pretty necessary information for a deep understanding of the game i feel. Thanks!
My character was a male redguard under the zodiac sign of the thief to get bonuses on speed and agility. This made those attributes on par with Strength and Endurance (all of them were at 50). When creating the class, I distributed the 5 additional points to intelligence and willpower, which were then 35 each. As main skills I chose:
Strength: Blade
Intelligence: None
Willpower: None
Agility: Marksman
Speed: acrobatics
Endurance: Block, Heavy Armor and Armorer (all 3)
Personality: illusion (but i don't use it at all)
I designed this character because I wanted an all-rounder that combined tank, Marksman and wizardry. In the first few levels, I leveled intelligence and willpower, along with one attribute of my main skills, by +5 each. I was able to level sorcery very quickly because I only brewed mana regeneration potions to train alchemy. These main skills allow me to level my skills in a fairly controlled manner.
Great video finally a great guide for insight on the game's complex mechanics
you have the obsessive-compulsive skill.
This is an important tactic when playing on Legendary right off the bat ( Which I always do )
This man *is* the tutorial of the game
one thing is that hwen i got oblivion for my 360 years ago i would find my character become a non-factor around level 14 if i didn't level efifciently, everything even a simple wolf would become super lethal
Atronach is great with a high elf and 100 intelligence. You can create spells that are like nuke blasts.
Luck increases the value of random treasure, and greatly increases the chances of the special effects of power attacks actually working. So paralyzing, disarming, knocking people down etc will happen very frequently. It's not a crucial stat, but 100 luck makes the game actually a lot easier, even later on.
wtf that breton looks really good
I have never once done any of this and I never have any trouble with this game's difficulty.
Thanks, didn't know this.
that "overdone" nord face looked quite similar to Lucius Malfoy.
