I started my TES journey with Morrowind, so when Oblivion came along, I missed the exoticism that I loved so much in Morrowind. Shivering Isles brought back that exoticism, and is by far my favorite place in Oblivion (both the game and the realm)!
I will never forget that one playthrough where I took the Mania road to New Sheoth and, at night, between the night sky, and those golden wisps, and Auriel's Ascension playing, I experienced one of the most beautiful moments possible in gaming.
i cant believe in just 9 months how wildly popular your channels gotten! feels like it was only yesterday only a few thousand of us were watching the clothing of oblivion. to the secunda and beyond!
You were on my recommended feed a few days ago, and having watched several of your videos now since I am getting into Oblivion, a game that is a year older than me and that I have now been playing since June, I really enjoy your style of content. Keep it up, you've earned a well deserved sub.
Very cool video! Re: the Shivering Isles and time, eras in Tamriel/Nirn and the Shivering Isles are actually measured differently. While the measurement of eras in the former are arbitrary and linked to major historical events (ex. establishment and fall of the Septim dynasty), an era in the Isles lasts exactly 1,000 years. The evidence for this comes from the in-game book "The Predecessors" by Yngvar the Wanderer. Yngvar correctly predicts the Greymarch to occur within this period due to researching the ruins all around the realm, and if you meet him while wandering around he tells you the end is coming soon (unless you meet him after beat the main quest, in which case he's surprised the end never came).
It does make sense to me, since original Sheogorath was both god and daedric prince, he has choosen *or found* someone with the very same duality, or at least potential for it
Girl, this video was wonderful, I only came to play Oblivion a few years ago, I always thought the graphics were a little dated, but I realized how foolish I was, I liked the base game but the DLC The Shivering Isles was something special, you described very well the feeling of seeing that world for the first time, you feel unsettled but at the same time amazed by the beauty of this strange world
My first Elder Scrolls experience was Morrowind on the original Xbox with the duke controller. I spent hundreds of hours exploring each and every corner and still did not discover everything there was to see. When Oblivion came out, I didn't have an xbox 360. I worked, but unfortunately every check was taken by my mother. When my birthday came around, a few of my close friends surprised me with an xbox 360 and a stack of games. One included of course was Oblivion. Even though Oblivion seemed limited in character freedom compared to Morrowind, I noticed the world and adventure freedom that kept me hooked for over 10 years. Many fond memories. They dont make games like this anymore.
Totally learned English coming from South America by playing video games. You're right the vocab is a little odd for a child, I knew what a Ziggurat was, hell.
It's been so long since I played tis game and these vids are a welcome trip down memory lane. Love your story telling and lore deep dives! Awesome channel!
yes, we love you playing old classic games. it brings so many memories and it is so nice to see such lovely new person exploring them. if possible , please check Sacred Gold Edition, 1 and 2, and even the Age of Wonders 1 , 2 , 3 and 4. Or even Disciples 2 or 3 or Disciples Liberation!
It would be very interesting to see the Elder Scrolls world in their equivalent of our Victorian era. Perhaps at the very beginning of an industrial revolution. It could be very interesting to see early technology and magic compete or be weaved together.
I haven't done Shivering Isles yet, but I had no idea there were men saints and seducers. This was another great video, I look forward to getting into the dlc soon. I was actually quite intimidated by that first room, it just felt so final, you know? The finality of it made me leave and decide to come back to it later, as I still hadn't done other things I wanted to try out. They did a good job of making it feel like the start to the very end of the game, at least for me. But it is still cool to see what the final chapter holds in terns of the beauty of the landscape.
Congrats on reaching 70,000 subs, I really enjoy and appreciate your videos and wish you continued success in making content that you are clearly passionate about. It is so nice to see someone that is genuine and authentic doing something they enjoy, it really comes across in each one of your videos, love it and thank you!
Angelika, I loved your video. I really am glad someone else noticed that in fashion and art-design Shivering Isles is something like the late 1700 (particularly 1790s - Google '1790s in fashion') and the nineteenth century. It really is about these two centuries - clothes, obsession with arts, educated and intelligent but a bit insane people... it's like you are watching a Tim Burton movie. For me, Shivering isles is like a game on its own. I fell in love with its architecture, sculptures, nature, music. People are spiritual and artsy like real artists and poets of the eighteenth and nineteenth century. And the society is divided as well, wealthy Bliss and poor Crucible. Sheogorath is a charming old gentleman. I wish I was a painter that would do the drawings of this addon, eхpanding the lore and vision... been obsessed with this game for so many years.
I'm currently playing through the Shivering Isles for the first time and definitely agree with you on the strange and beautiful atmosphere. I find myself walking everywhere as much as possible instead of fast traveling.
I've always liked to think that Daedric realms are set outside of Mundus and outside of time and space itself and the only thing that connects the two is a linear time, but outside the timelines being connected Daedric Realms are unaffected by the goings on outside of them and are for all intents and purposes a separate reality
The saints and seducers questline was one of my favorites because you had to choose a side to devote to and I felt like it was also great foreshadowing of Sheogorath's two sides battle each other for domination. I think your explanation for the shriving Isles was very well in depth.
The Saints & Seducers remind me a lot of the Fish Speakers from the later Dune books. Matriarchal, fanatic in their devotion, highly trained and disciplined, and very effective soldiers and police.
Really enjoying these deep dives on various aspects of the elder scrolls. You touched on it a little in your video about Art in Oblivion, but I’d be interested in a video exploring the various different forms of religion, worship and belief throughout the series
Every time i hear or see something about the shivering isles, i can’t help but think of the relation between Mania/Dementia and the Bipolar condition in real life (where a person alternates from states of mania/hipomania and depression). Great video 🩵
I think that the Shivering Isles has very similar vibes to morrowind in the sense of it being a strange and weird place with fantastical flora and fauna. As a fan of Morrowind, this take on the shivering isles was very much appreciated!
Hi! Could you please do a “staying in Skyrim lowest / highest rated Inns” You’re the only UA-camr I consistently watch as it’s always got a nostalgic feel.
This video is gonna make me finally play shivering isles for the first time even tho I’ve been playing oblivion for years. Sweetroll for fimmion, pants for you.
Another great video. Shivering Isles, to me, is the last true great "expansion pack" before the age of DLC and such. Truly awesome. Still recommending Arx Fatalis, as it hits a lot of the same notes that Elder Scrolls does and was actually originally going to be Ultima Underworld 3! I think you'd enjoy it a lot (if you haven't already played it)
I love the shivering isles for it's difference to Cyrodiil, but I have to say Cyrodiil itself will always be the more enticing location to me - something about the atmosphere feels much more alluring. That being said, neither would be quite as good without the option to experience the contrast.
I was reading Dante's Inferno at the time Shivering Isles came out and thought that the extra emphasis on going underground all the time was a slight reference to it. Oblivion dungeons often go underground to, but you're essentially in sunken cities or bunkers to protect against dragons. Shivering Isles feels more alive underground than it does upstairs and Sheograth is essentially a demon. One thing I always found curious were the Grummites, which are not deadra. I read a theory that the Grummites were originally from Nirn but stumbled into or were invited into the Isles by Sheogrorath to amuse himself. Because Sheogorath is one of the eldest demon princes (he invented music) the Grummites are proably prehistoric and are extinct in Nirn.
the butterflys are also most likely a reference to Zhangzi butterfly poem about ''dreaming'' you are not yourself, also referenced in american mcgee alice and smt persona
It’s been over a decade since i last visited this realm! But i oft visit it in my mind.. that is until the mad prince comes to haunt my dreams. He is so paranoid and thinks I’m able to bring some of his precious greenmote through the fabric of realm’s 😌
Amazing video as always! When you can, make a playthrough of TES I Arena and (if you like the franchise) talk about the Fallout lore. Much sucess for you!
Hey Angelika. I know you tend to focus more on the aesthetics of the Elder Scrolls, but have you ever considered doing a review of some of the in-game short stories? I was just thinking Morrowind is a gold mine for spooky stories or stories with twists for a Witches Festival themed Halloween video.
Wonderful video! Will you ever touch on the food in video games? Not asking for you to cook by any means, but a video where you talk about the diets and dishes of a specific region of Tamrielm (i.e. Skyrim)
Regardless of which game you're playing, if you've had anything to drink (or any other firm of intoxication) and you hear "Shivering Isles", "Sheogorath" or "Blackreach", save the game and come back tomorrow. You're not ready.
Another fantastic video, I reckon I would alternate between Bliss and Crucible if I lived in in New Sheoth, I would want to experience both lifestyles and all the aspects to it, Bliss is vibrant and fun but overstimulating, were as Crucible can be depressing and sometimes brutal but also melancholic and beautiful in its own way. If I were to compare the different sides of The Shivering Ilses to music I would say that the mania side reminds me of bands like Gryphon and Gentle Giant were as the dementia side reminds me of bands like The Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees.
Hi Angelika, great video as always! Would you be interested to create one for a topic, that seems to not by covered by anyone yet? I'm talking about Arden Sul, and his connection to Sheogorath.
So what I’m hearing is the architecture and clothing is loosely based on Victorian England, and they called this land the shivering isles. Yep, that makes sense.
Cheese thread
Another banger video💝
I believe it’s called “cheese cloth”

CHEEEEESEE
The best expansion Bethesda ever made. Sheogorath is my favorite kind of person.
best expansion anyone ever made.
Angeli videos have become a Must click for me lol. 10/10 content
Happy to have you here man 🫶
Nice touch with the butterflies, brought me back to the first time I entered the Shivering Isles.

Love how you notice / talk about things normally overlooked in these ES games❤
I was on this video faster than some guy's house I'm not supposed to be in
So many memories😢 thank you Angelika, your voice is incredible
i cant believe in just 9 months how wildly popular your channels gotten! feels like it was only yesterday only a few thousand of us were watching the clothing of oblivion. to the secunda and beyond!
Thank you, I’m really excited about the growth, and I appreciate the support, especially from those who have stuck around since the beginning ♥️♥️
I was thinking about elder scrolls ALL DAY yesterday. Good timing.

Never played it, enjoyed listening to this

Wild to me that the Hero of Kvatch is canonically both the Divine Champion and the Prince of Madness
Gold medal in multitasking 🥇
A divine comedy indeed.
It does make sense to me, since original Sheogorath was both god and daedric prince, he has choosen *or found* someone with the very same duality, or at least potential for it
Another great video from you. I love those butterfly's in your hair for this one. Nice touch.
Thank you! This was all pre-planned of course 🦋😌

I love your video ideas so much.
11:56 I’d also say the palace itself looks like Jyggalag, with the spiked domes at the top looking like his face.
So beautiful and haunting a place i was too scared to visit on my later play throughs. One of the best DLCs ever.
Congrats on reaching 70,000 subs, I really enjoy and appreciate your videos and wish you continued success in making content that you are clearly passionate about. good timing, just bet the gatekeeper yesterday and entered the area in my first playthrough ever
That's just cool, I like the way you think
I'll never forget the first time I played Shivering Isles. I spent a solid chunk of time just staring at the night sky it was so captivating
Shivering isles is the best expansion I've ever played. Good video!
I was taken aback for a second...I don't think I ever looked up and noticed that aspect to the daytime sky! loverly video!
"Some guy's house you shouldn't be in" yes finally someone points that out
Angelika, I loved your video. This is THE best Elder Scrolls DLC thanks for doing this one
Great content, so entertaining and well done. You did an awesome job. I'm looking forward for news videos about the Elder Scrolls lore.
I'm currently playing through the Shivering Isles for the first time and definitely agree with you on the strange and beautiful atmosphere. I find myself walking everywhere as much as possible instead of fast traveling.
You never fail to deliver high-quality content. And look amazing while doing it.
Keep up the stellar work!
Nice touch with those butterfly pins. ❤️
By the Gods, I love this channel
I've always liked to think that Daedric realms are set outside of Mundus and outside of time and space itself and the only thing that connects the two is a linear time, but outside the timelines being connected Daedric Realms are unaffected by the goings on outside of them and are for all intents and purposes a separate reality
My absolute favorite god in Elder Scrolls lore! I would love to play a spin off game centered at just him. ❤😊
Thanks for this wonderful video Angelika!
You have an amazing voice. I could listen to you talk for hours!
The saints and seducers questline was one of my favorites because you had to choose a side to devote to and I felt like it was also great foreshadowing of Sheogorath's two sides battle each other for domination. I think your explanation for the shriving Isles was very well in depth.
Yet another great video 💚💚💚
Such a nice video :) I didn't remember much about the shivering isles but this brought me back :)
Time to replay Oblivion!
Shivering Isles was a good DLC.
Crazy that this game is nearly 20 years old. I can still hear all the characters' quirky dialogue in my head 😅 maybe I belong in the Shivering Isles!
The Saints & Seducers remind me a lot of the Fish Speakers from the later Dune books. Matriarchal, fanatic in their devotion, highly trained and disciplined, and very effective soldiers and police.
You have renewed my interest in the Elder Scrolls and made me wonder what else is there besides the video games :)
Really enjoying these deep dives on various aspects of the elder scrolls. You touched on it a little in your video about Art in Oblivion, but I’d be interested in a video exploring the various different forms of religion, worship and belief throughout the series
I eagerly await the overview and lore on Oblivion Sewers.
The mystic allure of the practically endless maze beneath the White Gold Tower.
Love the interpretation of the time-sliding in the Isles, I hadn’t considered it
Every time i hear or see something about the shivering isles, i can’t help but think of the relation between Mania/Dementia and the Bipolar condition in real life (where a person alternates from states of mania/hipomania and depression). Great video 🩵
This has got to be the best DLC in any game I've ever played, even though exploring it was terrifying to child-me
I think that the Shivering Isles has very similar vibes to morrowind in the sense of it being a strange and weird place with fantastical flora and fauna. As a fan of Morrowind, this take on the shivering isles was very much appreciated!
Good stuff. I was a teenager angst boi when playing this game so the darker content of the Shivering Isles were my favourite thing ever.
"Gal bursten it."
“Fribble, just fribble”
Hi! Could you please do a “staying in Skyrim lowest / highest rated Inns”
You’re the only UA-camr I consistently watch as it’s always got a nostalgic feel.
I remember first time I entered shivering isles. Walls that changed into butterflies. It was really magical to me. Its strong memory. :D
Sometimes i truly believe i belong in the shivering isles. Everyone is a bit off but I totally get it. Id fit right in
This video is gonna make me finally play shivering isles for the first time even tho I’ve been playing oblivion for years. Sweetroll for fimmion, pants for you.
I've watched enough of your videos that I now am installing Oblivion for the first time 🥇
Thinking about playing it in an authentic resolution 😶
Another great video. Shivering Isles, to me, is the last true great "expansion pack" before the age of DLC and such. Truly awesome. Yeah, the shivering isles also left a great impression on me
the butterflys are also most likely a reference to Zhangzi butterfly poem about ''dreaming'' you are not yourself, also referenced in american mcgee alice and smt persona
Verdant landscapes & forests? What a lovely way to describe Cyrodiils setting.
I loved the shivering isles man. It's easily the best expansion of any game. Makes me want to replay oblivion again 😀
Shivering Isles was the closest Bethesda ever got Morrowind. A threatening but beautiful place run by the best god.
It’s been over a decade since i last visited this realm! But i oft visit it in my mind.. that is until the mad prince comes to haunt my dreams. He is so paranoid and thinks I’m able to bring some of his precious greenmote through the fabric of realm’s 😌
Amazing video as always!

Much sucess for you!
i have the same butterflies 🦋💕
crazy that I was thinking of ole shiggy earlier. parking my ass down to listen to my second favorite daedric prince's realm🩷
Get comfy ☕️
As much as I love the shivering Isles. Favorite realm has to be Apocrypha. Hope you cover it sometime in the future.
My favorite questline/expansion in video games
man, i just got this game on my steam deck, cant wait to play it all again
Hey Angelika. I know you tend to focus more on the aesthetics of the Elder Scrolls, but have you ever considered doing a review of some of the in-game short stories? I was just thinking Morrowind is a gold mine for spooky stories or stories with twists for a Witches Festival themed Halloween video.

Either Shivering Isles or Throne of Bhaal are the best expansions ever, and I'm not sure which.

loved the shivering isles and sheodude
I hope you feel better soon.
I think You would love Baldurs Gate 3. Cool video as always :D
Shivering Isles were the absolute best part of Oblivion.
Always drawn to Crucible.
The slummy feel got to me. Felt diffrent from Bliss which reminded me about Cyrodiil.
I may not like Oblivion as much as Morrowind or Skyrim, but ... the Shivering Isles was something special.
Hi Angelika, great video as always! Would you be interested to create one for a topic, that seems to not by covered by anyone yet? I'm talking about Arden Sul, and his connection to Sheogorath.
This video honors the 6th house and the tribe unmourned
So what I’m hearing is the architecture and clothing is loosely based on Victorian England, and they called this land the shivering isles. Yep, that makes sense.
Angelika, you describe things so vividly and beautifully. Have you ever played d&d? Youd make a kickass DM 😅
Bring up to the channel the game of Fable. I always felt related to that game. It had brought me nostalgia, and melancholy in those days. Even today.
the shivering isles (or as me and my friends call it, islas locas) plus all of the FNV DLC's are at the top in RPG's imo
I was evading crucible and all dementia side as a plague. It seemed like it's out of this world, and never should had existed in a first place
I think I love you. Thanks from Italy ❤
