Hopefully this video can help some people extract the goodness of USED price performance!
SAMPLE TEXT at 18:57. You botched this one.
Hey Bryan great video as always! What prebuilt did you use specifically because I can't find the model. Look forward to the next flip-up video as always!
Thank you so much! It really helped me a lot!
Should be fixed soon. Adobe leaving some hidden nest eggs for me lol@@chuckwow3302
It was an acer aspire, 8th Gen.@@MusicForLife764
Legendary stuff... So glad to see you making vids like the old days....
This is the stuff that'll bring all the boys to the bar...!!!
(And hopefully the regulations that can bring economics back to PC gaming..)
I know how to build an RTX 3060 gaming PC and save money. Just watch Tech YES City!
I make sure I drop my CPU coolers onto my motherboards. Shows em who's the boss.
18:43 idk why made me laugh. Either way great vid as usual
Top work fella! Do more of those.
21:40 >> This is what I like about TechYesCity Benchmarks. They show a real life (for most) performance difference. When consumers see a typical CPU review, they will see twice the FPS performance of a i9-13900K over a i7-8700 (and maybe expect that if they have a decent GPU) BUT.. that is test done with a flagship RTX 4090, to remove as much GPU bottleneck as possible. The i7-8700 or i5-10400 are still viable CPU's for gaming, even with a 3060 Ti / 4060 pairing.
Completely agree on both counts. I got an Acer with an I5-10400 that I paired with an ASUS TUF Z590 motherboard and new ram and a used RTX 2080TI, and it's a beast.
hey just sell kidney and buy 15900 with 5090 ^^
A good friend of mine asked me if I could build him a cheap gaming PC for esports games. So I went on the hardware hunt. After about 2 weeks I had all the parts together. In the end, I ended up with a total of 180€ (294 Australian Dollar). I think the result is worth it. MSI A320m-A PRO AM4 motherboard, AMD Ryzen 5 2600, Geforce GTX 1060 6GB, Crucial 16 GB DDR4 kit, BeQuiet 500W 80 plus power supply, San Disk 256GB SATA SSD, Western Digital NVME SSD 500GB. To spare some money i got an older Enermax airflow Case for 5€ and went on with the stock Ryzen cooler. i love building cheap AM4 Systems because you still have the option to upgrade the CPU to a Ryzen 5000
Great Video i have building since the late 1990sand i always learn something new watching your videos.
Hey man, i just wanted to thank you for being real. A lot of us out here are broke AF and appreciate the attention you give to the budget world. New Gen is cool and all but being slammed with stuff we can't afford kinda sucks sometimes.
I'm really not sure gutting an OEM prebuilt is the best suggestion for a first time builder (especially since many of them these days don't have 24 pin connectors and weird pinouts for power buttons etc). I've been building rigs for over a decade and even I wouldn't bother doing it. $100 was a banging deal for the prebuilt for the CPU alone - could have probably found a cheap h310 or b360/5 motherboard to use for another $50-60 and saved the jankiness! Then find a box cutter i3-8100 and some crap ram/ssd to drop back into the prebuilt and sell it on.
I do agree but its still fun watching creative ways to make some money flipping pcs.
I went with a z590/i3-10105 for my son, big jump from the 3770/H61 combo he was running previously (only reason why I snagged the z590 was it being combined w/ the i3 for $150 - some good upgrade path and can get the XMP out of his memory kits).
I can't see putting this in an case with ARGB and tempered glass at all, I mean if you're going to have this much jank, I'd at least cover it up. I can think of a few case options that would do just that and still have good airflow, but like you said just getting the CPU for $100 and pairing with cheap budget motherboard, would be the best option.
@@windowsalternative2203 this would be a good candidate in a sleeper/retrobuild
👍Yeah might be a good case to hide the ugly of that OEM dwarf board, as long as it has some front intake for a GPU.@@xXDarthBagginsXx
Great part of this build I have seen a few patrons asking about covered. Reactivation of a rig, with a fresh install of windows. Looking forward to your next flip for sure.
Getting CPU + GPU used (imo) is the way to go these days. Those two components can easily take up to 60-70% of your budget. So getting them used and everything else new is the best way to save money without having to worry too much about faulty parts. CPU & GPU have the smallest margin of error out of anything in a PC meaning they either work or don't work. There's almost no middle ground there. Sure, there's always a chance of faulty GPU fans or crusty thermal paste, but that's always been the risk of buying used.
I used to think getting used RAM sticks is a good way to save money. But RAM prices have gone down a lot recently so paying a small extra is worth it imo for the lifetime warranty.
And I think the most important part is the PSU. Even if you're on a budget, try to spend extra on the PSU. A good PSU can easily last for more than a decade and it's by far the most forward compatible part of your PC.
You can buy everything for cheaper in the used market. Especially CPU GPU RAM and Power Supplies are very good saving options. The others tend to be too expensive to ship (case) or are not that accessible on the market.
@@adizen1 I tend to lean to recommending getting PSU's new, unless you know the age of the unit - also there are some who will sell off new units for cheap from canceled build plans.
Cpu and GPU are the 2 that are the most common to be faulty they can have all kinds of issues 🤦♂️🤦♂️
@@chadstudd1616 very true you dont get any warrenty with used parts and gpus are the worst components to buy used people clean them up then sell them because they look good at first glance but in alot of cases they fail the guys buying them and they end up losing alot of money because of risk gpus in general are the hardest working components of a build and without knowing the history of the component you might end up shooting yourself in the foot that is the reality of buying used i had first hand experience of buying a used gpu that ended up with me losing money
Love the content, can’t wait for episode 4 of the flip up challenge :D
Very good video and I've learned a lot of it
Good idea. I've built too many lately but this is a good value.
Really loving the content over the past few months. I've been trying to come up with a plan and ditch my old 1070gtx rig. There's just so many ways you can go with a build.
Honestly even after years, this is my favorite Tech Channel ever.❤
Very good video that’s gonna help a LOT of people! Still on top of the game Bryan :)
Very nice Bryan good stuff !!!
If the motherboard doesn't have xmp, a good tip is to find out which ram speed it supports. Then go and find a proper ram kit with the proper jedec profile.
I currently have a oem prebuilt that supports up to 3200 mhz, but only with a jedec profile (thats 3200 mhz cl22). If i put in a kit with a 3200 mhz cl16 xmp profile it only runs at 2400 mhz.
Cheers Bryan , good job on the video as always! dont forget hte black tape cover up that ketchup mustard cables!! would look pretty clean try it!
Top tier stuff!
I definitely already know how to build a PC, but this is somehow very relaxing to watch.
Some oem green mobo flip tricks: Use red lighting when selling. The red makes the green look black. --- Use an rgb downdraft cooler. Shining light straight out the side makes it hard to see the cheapo mobo. --- Put in the smallest case it will fit so it's harder to see. --- If dealing with connector boot errors (oem bs) it's almost always that one pin needs to be tied to ground. --- Automotive tint can be used to darken most glass side panels. --- Many oem mobos with rgb headers have the color-order mixed up. But will still work since 5v/12v will be an end pin. Just use your rgb software to mix values as needed. --- Or, some cases that come with rgb fans use regular rgb (5v or 12v) controllers. Use that same controller for your cpu cooler.
My favorite computer UA-camr with another banger 🔥🔥🔥
The birds nest cable management is a flippers specialty
never even thought about putting one of these weird oem motherboards into a different case, sick project :)
Those crafty stickers under the coolers hey...😂
Great tutorial on how to re-case a used OEM PC and add a graphics card. I think some people will really need to hear the importance of having an appropriate power supply with appropriate wattage and cables to run the graphics card that's being added to the system.
got my last 3060 ti for 200 bucks :)
Thanks.
Happy New Year to the Yes Fam!
Hey Bryan! Long time viewer. Not trying to be a smart a but the 24 pin connector can fit more than one way. I have seen some really stupid mistakes . Ive even made one or two myself but the point is always triple check the connector is lined up properly. And hopefully nobody has anything plugged in while doing this either. Awesome content ! I really love these type of videos on the budget bangers. Keep up the amazing work ! @Tech Yes City 💚💚
Some may need adapters for the 24pin but that's pretty easy to do too, love this way of getting a cheap pc.
Good buy on the 3060 ti i pick one up for $370 used in Melbourne most people on marketplace here are selling 3060 ti for 400 plus. I'm pairing it with a Ryzen 3600 and 16gb ram and b550 board building it for my daughter for her birthday
I love building my own out of used/new parts from the markeplace or really good online deals.
This may not be exactly repeatable in every region but it gives you a general idea of how you can combine used and new parts to make a budget build. Awesome video Brian! Haters gonna hate...
Looks good of a build.
Yeah I'm trying to transplant an Acer Aspire pre-built into a new case, and the proprietary board size which is extra long and the not-24-pin but 6 pin ATX for main power is a catch that may make flipping a pre-build a bit harder. One thing to remember with the ATX12VO style connector is that it probably won't turn off the CPU/GPU fans when you press power. I gotta try it and see. Great vid Bryan!😍
Yeah if you have that problem, just go into windows and unlock the power button settings and select turn everything off. However I have had some lenovos that just stay on when you go to turn it off.
@@techyescity Fantastic tip! I'll check out BIOS settings, thanks so much 👍
I got the same kind of pre-built for $80 (I5-10400) that I paired with a used Z-590 motherboard for about $65.
Thank you Bryan! Just got myself a Windows 11 Pro licence for £15.21 using your code. Result!
Good video
This setup is still cheaper than a PS5 or Xbox Series X, and it will run circles around both systems! This is awesome!
Great videos! I see you used a cheaper ssd as your main drive. I'm reading it's bad to install the os in a dram-less ssd. Is that really an issue and what is the negative of not using a dram ssd? Building a rig for my son which is pricy so I'm having a bit of confliction going on in my head weather it's worth the added cost lol. Thx
LEGEND.
Hoping that for the finishing line of the $100 PC Challenge you put up the new 4070Ti Super on it as the final goal, that would be really awesome if you do!
awesome.
So refreshing to see someone do the "birds next" management and not fret over zip ties and such.
Great build price and specs for the price you should point out that if a part fails after a short time peroid the cost will jump is there a used warranty hunt service that could be applied
Great video!! Just wondering is there a way to know if the motherboards taken from these OEM pcs will fit standard m-atx cases?
Probably won't as they are so long. I went with a mid-tower and ditched the OEM mobo.
That 3060 Ti is awesome!
Nice video, honestly when you are in the drive section of the windows installation where you can pick which drive gets the windows installation, u don’t do the extra steps as it’s not necessary.
A cool video. What i like to recommend for kids or people starting out is to just get an old workstation tower from the past few years for a few 100 quid and throw a low power modern GPU in it. Most things will play 1080 medium just fine . This method ofc gets you a better machine that looks cooler.
agree, the current crop of workstations that are becoming available off lease finally have decent power supplies with 8pin video plugs, so now you can simply plug in a mid tier video card, its plug n play now
Thank God. I'm tired of every person asking me for the parts in LTTs video. 😅
Suck that intel xtu does not allow user to change the ram speeds as the amd ryzen master does. Great video cheers! Super cheap cpu mb combo!
If you do this, PLEASE make sure the 3060Ti doesn't have Hynix memory. They have a 100% failure rate and will eventually all crap out.
beautiful green pcb??? what meds u using, share me some aswell :D :D
@5:10 just something on this sponsor.
You can buy the cheaper Windows 10 licence and install Windows 11 and use that to save more money. Windows 10 keys work with Windows 11 and the Windows 10 keys are cheaper.
For now They will no longer be upgradable
@@NeVErseeNMeLikEDis To be fair as of Oct 2025 Windows 10 will no longer be supported, so yeah for now this will work.
correct, rite now u can still activate 11 using windows 7 key or 8 key or 10 key, just make sure u use home for home, and pro for pro.
The 3060 Ti is a pretty capable card still. Even for 1080p gaming. Considering the 4060 Ti's 8GB bad value to VRAM ratio, this one's much more better buy.
Ofc its still good, it performs similar to RTX 2080 or 6700 xt
@@evilleader1991
It actually outperforms the 2080 super by 2-3% according to Techpowerup's review but yea it is still capable.
I have a second hand Asus TuF 3060 Ti since 2022 september and its still working with no issues tho I did repaste it with MX 6 just to be sure and it runs everything I'm interested in playing.🙂 ' mainly single player games on a 2560x1080 ultrawide monitor'
Are most front panel headers that same? I hate google results (some old cases like the coolermaster centurion 5 have separated audio connectors - another long search)
These OEM motherboards may look unappealing but they are much better than any brand and last for endless years. Only thing bothering me on this specific board is there is connectivity for additional ram slots ready but they didn't build them, 4 slots would have been awesome, also it looks like there is an exposed chipset/bridge between the ram and battery, it needs a heatsink.
Brian. Recently, I built my own PC with used parts.I got a combo of Ryzen5 4500+RTX 2060 for 150 euros, 32 gigs 3200 Mhz for 50 euros and spent 10 bucks into the case. I already had the rest of the parts(PSU,SSD,Monitor,Keyboard,USB speakers). How would you rate my setup for the price?
Grabbed a 3060ti for $200 barely used recently that runs great, a 7700k for like $100 and the rest of the stuff was like $250 for used parts like board, ram, storage, cooler, power supply, etc. Basically built a solid starting gaming computer for $550 and could’ve gone cheaper if I looked around even more but just bought what I saw was cheapest and best price at the moment.
That was an old Windows istalller with the old Edge? :D
Sick build for real. acer motherboard making it happen
*YES, big W for this vid, got a 6700XT from Aliexpress for £190 no tax, made a video, previously picked up a 3060TI for £180 but got custom taxed so was £220 in the end*
no tweezers or swiss army knife, what kind of build is this?
Btw , wasn't there spare connectirs for sound/usb???
You so know about usb 2 to usb 3 adapters??
the ones I have had my hands on have all been backwards compatible, turns usb 3 into usb 2. There is no magic in the connectors.
Was able to find a 3060ti for also around 220 dollars, but mines the HP OMEN oem version😂 so it do tend to be alittle warmer
Does this PC really "have it all" if the front io doesn't work?
Where is the video about optimizing Windows?
hey i did this with my optiflex 9020 mt
but now i have a r7 5700g and ddr4 now
Another mobo I'll look for
I love the video. The one thing that I am concerned with is that windows 10 is going out in October 2025. Its a good idea and love the thought but the build will only last a little over a year.
For some reason a used 8th gen i7 CPU cost more than a new r5 5500 in my local online store 😂, how does that make sense.
nice
I want a decent pc for some yt vid editing, so software like openshot and audacity, handbrake. of course its 2024 and needs to sip power and be a used parts build. ddr3 is cheap so a 6 slot to cram in the ram, 4+ pcie so its can have expandability....
gpu with good 3d would be redundant but something that can do h264/265 in hw would be the dream
I love your content forever, Brian. But you do have to take into account that most of us can't get an i7-8700 OEM PC for $100.
Australia has one of the fastest tech turn-over rates, and is an extremely buyer-friendly market for used parts because of this.
I am still seeing i5-3470 OEMS at $100 in my market, and nothing 8th gen has even left the offices. On ebay, they are well over $200, at which point an R5-5600 is the better buy.
Wouldn't it be faster to install windows in the USB 3 port?
Only the question is, how long will the i7 8700 perform? Maybe 2,5 years later and its not that powerfull anymore.
I put a RTX 4060 low profile into a Lenovo Thinkcentre SFF with a i7-8700 and put 32gb of ram in it. I can run games and make them look as good as the ps5 on a 4k tv. The ps5 uses upscaling anyway so I can get games running and looking great even at 4k it's a great little system.
imagine using a 4060 in 4K :o) like, yes games will run but not at 60fps, i can tell this will even run lower than 50 fps, you might be using 1440p instead
@@asr1el942 I was actually playing AC Valhalla the other day at 4k high on my 4060 @60fps 😅 and for other games even new I can always do a high mix of settings and upscale to 4k from 1440p like what the ps5 does anyway
Your audio is messed up. Its all over place.
Is your microphone okay?
You gotta be lucky to get the i7 8700 for less than $100
Don't sleep in those boring home office desktops. If you are patient you can pick up 8th and 9th gen i7 systems with 8-16 GB RAM and a small SSD for $100. Replace the CPU with a $20-30 i3, and then sell the system cleaned up for $100-150, you get a free i7, and maybe even some RAM
Can a r9 5900x handle a Rx 7700 xt in 1440p ??
I just bought a week old 6950 xt for $420.
Where’s the background music
The gpu is 1030gt, half decent low end gpu.
the only problem with used parts is that you are sol if something wrong happens. while on pre built at least you have one year of warranty
While it's true that as soon as you assemble your own PC you lose 100$ (actually probably more like 30% of the components cost) you also get a warranty of 2 years and negate the risk of getting hosed. So you do get something in return for the lost value of the components.
I got a dual socket platform motherboard for $61.00 dual x58 lga 1366 motherboard long live x58
I would just have lifted the 8700 out of that PC and sold it with an i3 as a cheap office banger. And then used the 8700 with a proper board to build the gaming system. Getting a standard board into this case&PSU will just come with added trouble.
fix the audio and re-upload please.
These new oem boards kinda suck compared to the sandy bridge and Haswell era boards
THIS!
The i7 8700 oem is unrealistic tho.those are still expensive
They are a few i5 6500 optiplex for 70$
i5 6500 is too weak
@@michubern1444
Yes but there are non 8700 for what price he got it. U lookin for 170-+200$
At that point just go am4 ryzen build
The point is to make a build thats repeatable that any one can make now
@@NeVErseeNMeLikEDis depends on the country. A 8700 is like 60$ where i live
@@NeVErseeNMeLikEDis but yes go am4 for sure
yes the 8700 is very expensive still, it is similar to a 3600 from ryzen, so either chip will perform the same, so check both cpus whereever you are in the world
interesting audio
The Ferrari analogy is pushing it too far. What you have here is a dead-end system with no realistic upgrade path, restricted functionality but full of bling. An elderly female relative used to refer to this arrangement as 'all fur coat and no knickers', but then she was of a previous generation who said things as they saw them.
🤔 nobody really talks about the 8700 6core 12 thread, is it like too expensive still, cause im kinda tired of 8thread intel budget cpus, how many more years do we have to wait for 12 thread intel cpus to be super cheap 🙂
Just get used AMD, ez
