The hardest thing to learn...and accept....is that sometimes good enough is good enough. Be kind with yourself Mel. When you look back a month from know you'll see you did an AMAZING job!
hi mel, loving your videos! if you are concerned about sunlight fade on those front shelves, rather than blocking the light, put up a drop down sheet of black plastic on the shelves themselves. Put it aside when picking or storing inventory. Best Wishes!
Great work Mel. Nice to watch the process as you moved into the larger space. That was certainly a lot of work. I've been at that exhausted breakdown moment a time or two myself. Just have to give yourself grace and recognize your limits.
You are one of the hardest workers of anyone I have seen on UA-cam!! Your drive and dedication amazes me!! I know this was a few weeks ago. My prayer is that you have had a chance to rest!! You should be really proud of yourself, Mel!! I am excited to see your new space set up!! ~Tammy
It's amazing what you have done with help from Thom and Maisie. Thom has a work hard ethic, which has helped you drive through stuff in the past, "The Punishment". But, you've worked seriously on this for a long time, learning as much as you could about business and how making money works! Kaiser was cute telling us how much she disliked working moving books, however she is learning the inside of business. I admire and care about you so much!
Hey Mel. I went away for a month. Covered my sewing machine with a purple cloth to protect my sewing machine. Its beside a window which has a curtain and outside is a 10 ft wide verandah. Got back, pucked up the cover and it was faded to the shape of the machine. Dont dismiss Thoms concerns, learn from his experience
You are living up to your name again!! Soon you will be back from burnout!!! Thanks for taking us along on the ride! I am feeling the same way as everyone else and would help you in a heartbeat if I lived closer. Once everything is in its place and you are able to breathe again you will get back to enjoying it again! Happy Holidays!! And Happy New Year!!!
You know .. moving is super hard nomatter how well you organize and plan ! And your new warehouse already looks AWESOME ! So give yourself a big pat on the back ! We are cheering for you Mel !
My heart broke for you I can see that you wanted to work more but physically you have hit exhaustion and Thom knew it. Hugs Mel your amazing x You will get there!
Yes. This. I knew leaving it that it would make the pick and pack harder but I also was at breaking point with exhaustion and pain and ready to sob. Thom knows me well & knew I needed to leave.
Well said. There comes a point where 'just pushing on' becomes counter-productive. It's better to take a break and come back (somewhat) refreshed even if that means an earlier start the next day.
I’ve been following your journey. I admire your drive and dedication. You should be so proud of all you accomplished. Can’t wait to see the finished set up. I know it will be great!
Magnetic shelf numbers/ letters would be great you could print up some numbers/letters and maybe laminate them and stick magnets on the back of them or you could probably get numbers/letters already laminated off Amazon or similar place
As Thom suggests, it's probably best if you cover up a few of those shelves because the books are going to fade if you don't sell them quick enough Lol.. Well done Mel, you're doing a great job!
You're amazing Mel and You have been incredible! I love how Thom gives you advice and helps where he can, and mainly makes sure you take a break. He's very tuned in to you and knows you well enough to get you to pause. I wish you all the best Mel. Been watching your channel since your home garage and have seen you at all different stages at life. You inspire me a lot. Good luck with Maisie. Have an incredible Christmas with all your loved ones and I wish you an amazing 2025. ❤
It will be okay Mel. You have two days to ship and if you just print out the label eBay counts that as having been shipped even though it has not been sent yet so you can get away with 3 days. It will be fine, don’t stress.
You've worked hard for days. I agree with Thom. You just need to stop and start the next day. Once you get dizzy, nothing helps at that point other than hydration, food and rest.
Hello from America’s Nation Capital! I haven’t caught a video lately but here I am. Very happy to see you are doing well. Happy Holidays to you and yours 🎄🎁😁
Not sure if you are aware, but there are super cute "shower curtains" that the Garden Ladies in the UK are putting outside in their little gardens. Not too pricy and they come in multiple sizes. Would dress up your new space and make it easy on the eyes! I saw them on Amazon
You’ve done a great job Mel! Take a break and don’t be so hard on yourself. It’s ok if it’s hard tomorrow. Just take one day at a time. You’re doing great!
I'm astounded what you've achieved! You'll get there, and I hope you can enjoy a couple of days over Christmas to just totally unwind and celebrate with everyone. 🥰
You’ve done an amazing job & if there is ever a ‘next time’ you will know what to do & it will be super easy! I think you deserve a nice tropical holiday with lots of cocktails & a big pool!
Rebuilding after stopping my store when a tree fell through it and I started back to work. Work quit calling...Just got back from the storage unit, going through thousands of toys, books, and plush! Looked up and we were taking a water break together! Congrats on the massive unit!
Thank goodness you moved before you processed all those pallets from Thom!!! You are certainly inspiring me to tidy up and organise my space 😊 It’s incredible what you have achieved in a small time ❤️
It's really starting to take shape Mel. Good to see you keeping it real. Once it is all done, you can sit back and reflect, and start to thrive with your extra space. Merry Christmas !
Merry Christmas to you too! Also, thank you for your constant support! I want you to know that all your comments don’t go unrecognised with me. I see your name, I know you comment all the time and are one of my biggest supporters. I appreciate you and all the comments you leave. Thank you Scorcher ❤
@backfromburnout ...Bless you Mel. Btw... how did the Merino Wool undershirt go in chilly Goulburn? If I ever advertise them I might add "As worn by Mel @backfromburnout ! Hahaha
What a job, you got it all over there🎉 I understand you stressing about stopping in the middle of loading your shelves, but Thom saw you running out of energy and needing to stop. You are amazing 🤩
I think they might make a window film that would allow the light in but reflect the fading rays back out. As a just in case! You are getting closer to being done!! Happy Holidays!!!
You're about the hardest worker I've ever seen. You work smart, fast and efficiently. I love how you and Tom work together. He was right to eventually insist that you stop for the day. I hope you had some delicious pizza and good sleep!
What a huge day for you, Mel. You did SO MUCH WORK during this moving process. As a long-time subscriber, I am so proud of you, you never give up and have grown so much with your business! Remember you are "Back from Burnout"!! You don't need to push yourself to dizziness, trust your environment, things will work out!., I hope you have had some time to rest. P.s. I also prefer to work alone, at my own pace. It's much harder to be productive when trying to match someone else's expectations and spontaneous plans that interrupt your process
Thank you. When you’re exhausted everything is harder and I knew I was irritable and snappy as I was tired and sore and when I’m in a mood where I want to cry I just want to be alone to help gather myself. I appreciated Thom so much for trying to help and lift the heavy bags for me but I was just so tired. He’s a wonderful man who put up with my bad moods everyday of the process.
Moving is one of life's biggest challenges and stress inducing events. You have done an amazing job, Mel. BIG Hugs and promise us to go get a deluxe massage after all is finally moved and set up. You sure deserve it; & Thom too!! 💖
Couple decades back, we built and moved the biz into a 2600 sq ft building on our new acreage. Before the new building was up, we had stored equipment in a smaller, existing building on the same land. It took me at least a week to stop going to the old building and standing in the doorway when I wanted something. I'd then have to remember where the cabinet I was looking for had been moved to. We had moved entire stand up cabinets (each about the size of your shelves) intact, using pallets to the new building, but had rearranged the physical pattern. It takes a bit for the mind to adjust to such a large move. 😉
Keep your head about you hon. You are a rockstar and don't forget that! You are an amazing person. It will all be worth it. Remember, Everything you are feeling is just temporary.
I think the lesson to be learnt--for all of us--is that jobs nearly always take longer than expected. One day longer on the 'time away' would have made the world of difference. As a one-time Project Engineer/Manager I learned very early on the importance of not being overambitious and of building in contingency time. How much time, for example, was lost just working around the light replacements? At the end of the day, one-off projects like this warehouse move are always going to be difficult to plan precisely, just because you don't have an accurate benchmark on timings--so be generous with estimates. After all, if you had allowed two weeks 'time away' you could always have reopened the store early if you didn't need all the time. Promise your client (or yourself) that a job will be done in a month but deliver in three weeks and you're a star. Promise three weeks but deliver in four (even if the circumstances were beyond your control) and that's not so good!
Tom's a good man, looking out for you. You definitely reached the quitting time once you've experienced dizziness. Nothing good will come for staying longer. You're doing an amazing job with the move. Can't wait to see it all completed!
boneyardbee said everything I was gonna say lol she's right 👍 but I get it, when I leave things undone to rest and sleep, it never works well, the squirrels in my brain jump on their spinning wheels, & yes squirrels, I have multiple ones lol
We have the same brain - I'm always go go go and fit everything into a short space of time rather than pace myself. My husband is like Tom and gets me to actually rest haha. Good luck - If anyone can sort out the pick and packing/putting away you can!
I'm also crazy like you and even though I'm exhausted at the moment I'm picking up a whole book shop tomorrow morning just to add to the crazy life I already have haha.
Mel, you have really worked hard! I wished a few of us could have helped! It will be so nice when you’re done and just getting it all in one place is huge! It is what it is…..I actually used that one the other day. 😂 congrats! Well done!
Amazed to see you still carrying shelf boards in your arms on day 8. You could be moving a dozen or so at a time on a two wheeled hand truck with almost no effort. No wonder you are sore. 😉
@@backfromburnout Yes, I have a number of the keyway hole style metal shelves (taller ones) with that style shelf board. When I've moved between past warehouses I'd use either my truck, back inside the building or my fork lift to move the shelves that had to be taken apart or a hand truck for those just being moved a short distance, because of the weight. My shelf boards all have square corners. I like the rounded style you have there better. I think the rounded corners would go in faster. We get our big blue and striped bags from IKEA (the furniture store). You called them something else wen speaking to Tom. May I ask what it was? 😉
OMG Mel. This last push has to be the worst. What you have done virtually on your own is outstanding. Picking and packing is going to be difficult but as you say. IT IS WHAT IT IS! Dont forget to BREATHE, DRINK WATER AND PROTECT YOUR BACK AT ALL TIMES. Sending lots of gentle hugs and love from sunny Spain. xxxxxx
IMPRESSED You actually left mid afternoon 😳. I would’ve stayed til shelves were sorted. I couldn’t rest or sleep knowing what was waiting for me…and yes I know ‘it’s not going anywhere’ but I also realize when I need to keep going for my own sense of peace. Does that make sense?
No the timing was off. I did put books away on shelves before we actually left but I didn’t film me doing that as I was emotional and moody. I think we left about 4.30pm which was still an early day.
you have done an amazing job!! moved warehouses all but alone thats a adventure one you don't gotta do again unless you want too...but probably not...its organized an tom is right take a break come back in the morning an finish to unstress from the day an start fresh it works!! anyways great video
Everybody does things different but you might consider a number system alphabet is hard for us dyslexics... we use like 3.4.1... so the first digit is the number of shelving rack the second number is the number of the Shelf and the third number is the position on the Shelf so in that example it's rack 3 4th shelf ,1 for all the way to the left first position on the Shelf
I’m going to re sku all the books when I stocktake in January. I’m not sure numbers would work well for my own ADHD brain but I do need more numbers (shelves) per letter. Food for thought and thank you for the suggestions
@@backfromburnout Maybe use letter to indicate shelf rows, then number for which shelf down that row, then another number/letter to indicate which shelf. For example, at 22:50 Thom is pointing at a row of books while talking about sun exposure. Based on the set-up as shown in the video, the shelf Thom is pointing at would be A32. A for the first row, 3 for the 3rd shelving unit in that row, 2 for the 2nd shelf. Of course, you could also start the letters from the back wall instead, or the shelving numbers from the wall instead of right to left. Using that system, you wouldn't run out of any letters/numbers.
Hang in there Mel! The end is near. You are strong and an inspiration. I look forward to see the progress you are making and the finished warehouse. Love it so far. Cheers from Florida!
You are doing amazing. What will be will be. I know by the time you read this you will be not as anxious and hopefully rested. This time next month you're going to look back and wonder how you did it all in such a short time. Blessings for your hard work and health.💜💜
Moving is always, always harder than imagined. Always! I know you operate at high speed, and I call you Super Mel, but please take a moment to breath. Hope your daughter’s ok.
You can have both. Tom knows you like to eat. After he fill your refrigerator you can walked over each day and give him a BIG hug and kiss for being so good to you.
Hi Mel, thank you for the video, almost done, I love the way Tom is working really hard doing his stuff but still comes to give you some support and great guidance, good luck & Merry Christmas & a Very Happy & prosperous new year, and good health to you and your family, cheers, Pete, (STOCKPORT, UK).👍🎄
you don't want to do clothing. too many returns and stress. gotta measure them all. how wide are they, how tall are they. they weigh a lot in bulk too.
do gaps on shelves created from sold books get filled with newly listed books? do you have a system for knowing for how long a book has been listed? you use the sku to hold that info? i've seen clothes sellers using a sequential numbering system one advantage being to more easily remove gaps by consolidating items in shelves/boxes. also the older the number the longer the item has been listed.
I wait for larger gaps then put multiple books on a shelf with gaps. My system is different to a clothing seller. I don’t consolidate in the same way they do
Watching you deal with your challenges in this video, reminds me of an old saying: "Not my circus, not my monkeys". Such events provide the opportunity to make the biz function better then ever before, but getting the reset done is filled with anxiety, cost and physical labor to the point (about now) when you start asking yourself if the effort is worth it. It will only be when you look back in a few months, that you will be glad you did it. 😉
I'm sad you are going through this, but at least we are getting one more video of this. 😀 I'm just missing Maisy (wrong spelling). Please take care of your self! Hug from me to you. Just wait till you are having a bigger place LOL Then from scratch afain.
The pink and gray trollies may be good for taking on the road for sourcing, but really don't look up to task (size and weight of the books) in today's process. 😉
Mel, if you find 90% of your items doing this mostly by yourself that's pretty amazing! You don't even need that Peloton. You're a beast! Next time hire some college kids (then again you know where everything should go and I'd probably do it all by myself too.). You deserve a nice vacation on a beach after this.....a while after this of course....but don't forget to give it to yourself! Hold it up there for when you really need it.
You are such a hard worker but we don't want you 'back TO burnout.' Frequent rests, fluids and nourishing food - you will get there. So proud of you Mel!
I used to be that woman who worked until the point of breakdown and never asked for help from the men around me. Not anymore for me and it hurts to see this toxic pattern of behaviour. Take care
The hardest thing to learn...and accept....is that sometimes good enough is good enough. Be kind with yourself Mel. When you look back a month from know you'll see you did an AMAZING job!
I think she did this a week or two ago. Probably already dealing with the Christmas rush.
Thank you ❤
hi mel, loving your videos! if you are concerned about sunlight fade on those front shelves, rather than blocking the light, put up a drop down sheet of black plastic on the shelves themselves. Put it aside when picking or storing inventory. Best Wishes!
That’s what I was thinking too. Just cover the shelves when you’re not picking.
I like that idea as I do love the natural light coming in. I work and feel so much happier with some light.
Thank you Tom for helping Mel. Hugs to you all from Texas.
Thanks! We all appreciate you
Great work Mel. Nice to watch the process as you moved into the larger space. That was certainly a lot of work. I've been at that exhausted breakdown moment a time or two myself. Just have to give yourself grace and recognize your limits.

Thanks Tammy. I’ve had a semi rest. Thank you x
Tom thank you for helping Mel. Mel you have done an awesome job. Merry Christmas

Well as much as ours brains tell us to push push push... our friends know when to make us quit , slow down , take a break !!! Good friends you have ❤
Thom is my boyfriend. He knows me well and knows how exhausted I was ❤
Thank God for friends and family. Sometimes one does not know when they've hit the wall and someone has to tell us what we are missing...!
It will be okay Mel. You have two days to ship and if you just print out the label eBay counts that as having been shipped even though it has not been sent yet so you can get away with 3 days. It will be fine, don’t stress.
Thank you. Pick and pack is the next video

Mel, you can get some UV film for those windows. It won't dim the natural light much. Just cut out the UV rays that damage the books.
You have me exhausted. I just started watching your videos and this is the third time I’ve seen you move in two days 😳
Almost to the finish line! Well done.

The rickety shelving unit needs the diagonal bar in the back of the shelf to keep it square. Pay a youngster to help you.

you have done an amazing job!! moved warehouses all but alone thats a adventure one you don't gotta do again unless you want too...but probably not...its organized an tom is right take a break come back in the morning an finish to unstress from the day an start fresh it works!! anyways great video
Never again. Thom tried to get me to get paid help and I was stubborn. Lessons learnt.
Not to mention numbers are so much easier to follow and they don’t run out haha
You are amazing Mel and don’t ever forget that. Well done 😊
😊 thank you
My back hurts from just watching you work! I'd be in the verge of tears, too.
My back was actually ok. My legs, hip and hands were not.
Well done Mel The End is insight 👏👏👏
Well the plus of this you haven't need to ride the bike for your exercise
My legs were like jelly lol. I couldn’t have ridden even if I wanted to lol
Wow Mel u have worked so so hard on the move. You should be super proud of yourself 😊👍💪 Sue
Thanks so much! 😊
So exhausting but it’s looking good!! (also v satisfying to see the label early on 😂)
Ha ha 😂 sorry to keep you waiting for that one ha ha
You are doing amazing. What will be will be. I know by the time you read this you will be not as anxious and hopefully rested. This time next month you're going to look back and wonder how you did it all in such a short time. Blessings for your hard work and health.💜💜
Thank you so much for your kind words, it means a lot!
Wow you finally your seeing the light at the end of the tunnel
So big questions how many total hours it took you
Oh I didn’t count. It took longer than I expected though.
Moving is always, always harder than imagined. Always! I know you operate at high speed, and I call you Super Mel, but please take a moment to breath. Hope your daughter’s ok.
Thank you so much.
We are all under so much pressure. Its a hard life. Bless you 😊
Thank you
Happy Christmas, guys! Please rest up...!
oh Mel, my heart was broken for you at the end watching you break like that. I know exactly how overwhelmed you are feeling xx biggest of hugs mate.
Tired and in pain makes one very moody lol
@@backfromburnout I had a giggle at you getting up Thom lol
She is a really cute dog.
So cute! We live here roaming around the warehouse
For Christmas ask Tom to get you a refrigerator and a microwave and you will be set. lol.
Don't forget the Dyson!! LOL
but he likes me interrupting him and having me come over to his warehouse to use his ;) 😂😂
@@backfromburnout 😂
You can have both. Tom knows you like to eat. After he fill your refrigerator you can walked over each day and give him a BIG hug and kiss for being so good to you.
Take Tom’s advice. That light will fade your stock.
Good luck tomorrow, Mel!
I need it lol. Stay tuned for the next video lol
He’s been an amazing support to me.
In the states, we would call this a shit show, but you’re doing wonderful. Hang in there almost done.❤
Oh it certainly was a shit show 😂😂 I’m first to admit it 😂
you don't want to do clothing. too many returns and stress. gotta measure them all. how wide are they, how tall are they. they weigh a lot in bulk too.
No clothing lol. Maybe Amazon though in 2025 ;)
i know exactly what those shelves are & im shocked they did not break on u, nice work.
I think he's right about the sunlight fading the books
do gaps on shelves created from sold books get filled with newly listed books? do you have a system for knowing for how long a book has been listed? you use the sku to hold that info? i've seen clothes sellers using a sequential numbering system one advantage being to more easily remove gaps by consolidating items in shelves/boxes. also the older the number the longer the item has been listed.
You can only do what you can do. Deep breaths and carry on. It will work out. You can do it. :)
Mel, you are amazing!
Not really, just doing what needs to be done. But thank you xxx
I'm sad you are going through this, but at least we are getting one more video of this. 😀 I'm just missing Maisy (wrong spelling). Please take care of your self! Hug from me to you. Just wait till you are having a bigger place LOL Then from scratch afain.
The things you do by yourself is amazing, but Tom is right. Your no good unless you take care of you. ❤
He knows me well. He’s been so supportive.
The pink and gray trollies may be good for taking on the road for sourcing, but really don't look up to task (size and weight of the books) in today's process. 😉
From another Bookwoman. You can only do so much. Else your health is going to really suffer. Keep up the good work. Results are amazing.
I definitely learnt a lesson. Next time I hire help lol. I’ll never do it again. Ever. Ever.
You will not have to worry about getting enough exercise. You are doing a great job.
Yes but it sure makes me realise my legs need strengthening lol
How's your youngest doing? Celiac is manageable these days, with so many gluten-free options.
She’s going much better than expected! She’s feeling better on the diet and has been great.
But she misses her KFC lol
Oh dear…I’m so worried for you on the PICK-DAY….May your guardian Angel be with you to find each shelf and that specific book that you sold.. 🙏👼🪽🪽🪽💸🙏🙏
Thank you. Next video is the pick and pack :/
You are a amazing. You should be soooooo proud of yourselve😊s
Thank you
You are amazing…🎉
Really appreciate it.
You are a hero. No other word for it.
You got this!!!!
Thank you ❤
I get that every thing is touch when we feel that way
Touchy-feely
You are such a hard worker but we don't want you 'back TO burnout.' Frequent rests, fluids and nourishing food - you will get there. So proud of you Mel!
Thank you. I definitely felt like Back To Burnout ❤
I used to be that woman who worked until the point of breakdown and never asked for help from the men around me. Not anymore for me and it hurts to see this toxic pattern of behaviour. Take care
🥰Tom is a good man for a wonderful women...
Thank you, yes he is a wonderful man who supports and encourages me daily. This move is only possible because of his help and support. ❤
