Mel, when you said one pot, one dish, it just cracked me up. Bravo, what you did is super impressive. Are you still going to move to a larger warehouse? Once you do, please delegate some work to an employee. You will be amazed how much more will be accomplished. Not only that, but it will take the strain off your back, and rekindle your enjoyment of your business. Anytime you're feeling overwhelmed, Mel, just do a slow sweep with your eyes around your warehouse and let it all sink in. YOU did this, Mel. From 500 books you created an incredible business, that has you in the top tier of book resellers. You created an empire, Mel. With the right size warehouse, and hopefully an employee, you will never feel overwhelmed again. Ask Tom if he agrees. Enjoy celebrating Tom's birthday!!

    My Dear Mel....!
I have followed you for a long time from Florida, in the USA. I spotted the interest in you from Tom over a year ago. I am SO GLAD you two connected. He is a gem, and it would do you well to pay attention to him, not only what he says, but what he does. He is obviously a success, a real businessman. You have shown you are flexible, are willing to listen, and are able to examine yourself. Perhaps sometimes you are too hard on yourself. But there are times you need to really stand back and look at things those of who watch your fascinating channel enjoy, and observe.
Today in this video, besides expressing your confusion and depression on the ton of 'must do's, NOW that do indeed exist, you show that you have avoided a real red flag.
You are, indeed, an expert, 'a queen' in assembling shelves.
I would suggest, however, your eyes should look at another side.
The fact that you have added, probably, 20-30 more shelves than you had a home before you moved, should alert you.
If you need more shelves, I would argue that you need more SALES. You are loading up tons of unsold items. You are working yourself soon to a position where it is all storage, and your packing shelves will need, out of necessity, have to be out doors.
I suggest you decide now to NEVER ADD ANOTHER SET OF SHELVES!
    Have a "Clearance Sale" , a holiday-whatever it is..sale.
    Do a half-price bundle sale..do a one-week only half-price sale...a 25%-off sale....you get my drift.
You MUST turn those shelves into money, and they must be emptied.
You must resist urges to add to your inventory: you already have more than you can sell.
    Sell what you have already.
    Take the mental issues away.
Concentrate on bucks in, not books in.
Set a goal on how many shelves to empty, and by what date.
QUIT BUYING! QUIT accepting free buys, or deals.
YOU must set up some tremendous buys for others, to help you clear out. How do you think you got all that stuff? Someone else realized it would be forever before they sold their excess inventories and looked for a sucker (sorry!) to take it off their hands!
You must do th same thing. Clean out the rubbish. Get a real plan on what you feel most comfortable selling. You don't need to beat old horses. Donate. Get a reputation for being philanthropic: give to those thrift stores (Make them pick it up)
What if you sold every book by the end of the year (of course you won't and don't want to) But if you got $1 for each, you'd be set to plan the quality of your new inventory. You have proven you are NOT afraid of work: your energy is amazing and is part of the fine appeal your channel has.
I do not wish in any way to criticize your methods...I wish you only success. i wish for your emotional health. I hope you consider some of this. Perhaps discussing my thoughts with Tom will give you some guidance. He is wise, is smart, and cares also about your success. It has to hurt him as much as it does me to see you occasionally flounder with uncertainty, overwhelming projects in view, and personal commitments outside of actually running properly a business. If this is to be your calling, you must continue to put it a close second to your personal life.
You showed a video where you were taking on an enormous chore 'working' for Tom. This makes no sense at all: your work load cannot allow for outside gigs. I am sure the money helped, but you are avoiding what must be done. I have often done the same: but when I put my mind to it (I, too was dependent entirely upon myself!) I realized that perhaps the best thing to do for me was attack the little things I enjoyed the least, but which were essential to the business!
I think if you continue to organize yourself, as you have shown, you will soon discover that you are the finest 'employer' you have ever worked for.
My best to you ,Mel. I mean you no disrespect: you are so admirable and have so many successful qualities that it caused me to write this. Please rely on Tom's advice, but do it on your own. I believe you will
    Jerry

Mel, you need more space. Books take up space. So much space. Coffee table books, vintage books, bundles, piles waiting to turn into bundles, etc. If you can't move your entire area, what if you had a second warehouse for 'specials'; vintage books, slow but high dollar rare books, bundles waiting to be bundles. You could put a cute sign on your next space and call it your 'Special Room'. Further, you could use it for warehousing your packing supplies and that will make more space in your main warehouse!

Get done what you can and move on. We all need to learn how to balance our lives because before we know, it is gone. On another note, I just came back from doing errands so bloody hot and am looking at you like what is she wearing while am sweating😂then I realize your heading towards winter. Mel, you did a great job working through that pile & getting it organized🌻. What would it look like if you decided not to do the cookbook bundles & only list & store the one's worth listing individually? Would it be a big blow financially? Would you have more space or would it save time? I definitely understand the value of bundling. I do it myself. Mainly fiction paperbacks. I love cookbooks but I'm pretty selective with them because they can move slow & take up a lot of space with higher postage. I've written off the diet based ones almost entirely. @@The_regulators yeah, I was thinking if it could be done for $5k or less, it might be worth it. But it's probably way more than that. I honestly have no idea on how cheaply a safe second story can be made.

I relate to ALL your vids Mel even though eBay’s not a platform I’m using at the moment but this vid ESPECIALLY so due to the task paralysis you also experience….This is EVER present within my business & I KNOW why it happens….I haven’t managed to set ‘reset to zero’ at the end of the day as a
HABIT & the snowball effect from this ONE relatively simple task is MASSIVE….!!!!!❤️❤️❤️

Happy birthday Thom! Mel, you will win again, just keep moving forward! We reduced our inventory by 1,000 items and sold it wholesale... 2 items I forgot to delist sold...lol 😊! Last Dec my mom had a stroke and we had to take care of them every day... our business suffered, but family is most 💯 important... we still go every day... work at night... we live 45 minutes away, and we are looking to buy a place closer to my mom and dad's place... after our move, we are going to put in lots of hours to get back on track! On top of all this we are being audited too! Taking it one day at a time! Have a great week ☺! Joe Bee 🐝 from 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 Canada!

Love these videos...hate them for you and all the work but love them for me as it's a reminder that it's very rare to find a reseller who has total control of their stock ALL the time so it's always good to a) remind myself of that and b) to go look at my workspaces and get them tidy. Thanks Mel...another great video...can't wait for the next one.

Get a push duster for the floor. Sweeping a broom uses way too much energy. Push duster is quick and easy which makes it doable morning and evening. I’ll put a link in reply so you can see what I’m talking about. I saw them being used during shopping hours at the grocery store and adopted its use in my basement with cement floors. It’s amazing.

    • @MajelCats
      @MajelCats 26 днів тому

Also, forgot the second tool that goes with the duster broom is a standing dust pan that folds up with a smaller broom that matches it to sweep up the pile. This is the set you see movie theater workers using to sweep up popcorn or amusement park workers sweeping up small trash as they walk around. No bending down, is the point. We’re getting old mel and all the energy needs to go to the store
