You should check out Athens German band Rammstein.
if you liked that check out Dream Theater
Oh y’all...”Silent Lucidity...very deep and dark.
Rush 2112 side 1. Set some time aside though, its one song with 5 parts, over 20 minutes long.
Listen to Operation Mindcrime, amazing concept album by Queensryche
Geoff Tate is a legend. One of the greatest American metal singers of all time.
I saw them in concert once and their bassist gave me a pick
Indeed Geoff Tate is a legend. Queensryche is in my top 5 heavy metal bands. Your parents are bringing you guys up right with music like this. Check out the song Queen of the Ryche by Queensryche, just keep in mind when you watch the video it came out in the 1980's lol.
Don't forget that he had one of the best Guitarists / Backing vocalists and Drummer of all time too backing him up. I think people forget the level of musicianship that was required back then to actually make waves. They couldn't hide behind DAWs, triggers & auto-tune
No geoff is. Rude and disreceprful the others should have listened to chris when he frist joined
The best man, the best! and the only one!
Tate has a 5 octave range. Let me say that again; "Tate has a 5 OCTAVE RANGE!!!!"
had :(
@@downboys Agreed a year ago, but the new stuff coming out seems like he has gotten serious again.
Jay Patterson - he’s gotten serious but that 5 octave range is long gone unfortunately.
I did not even notice that. i've been a huge fan since 83 and i learned to play every song from Operation Mindcrime on bass.
@@downboys watch the Rage for order shows. he is hitting Especially GGCTY, mind blowing
2:52 "so I'm already impressed"
Girl, you are exactly 38 seconds away from being BLOWN AWAY!!!
Best metal singer on planet earth.
And dude. You're damn straight that's a good guitarist. DeGarmo was criminally underrated. He's a musical genius
You've both got taste for the best in the industry.
Well said. 100%
That is definitely a "Where the hell did that come from?" moment and he did it 3 times.
Even though they went on was th Tate l, after he left, , the band for all intents and purposes was never the same. Also, Chris Degarmo is underrated, much like his Prog Metal contemporary Jim Matheos from Fates Warning. Both had another guitarist with them who was very good, but it was clear in each band who the star was. Another name that fits here (Although he started playing straight metal and morphed into Prog metal) was Criss Oliva of Savatage. All are criminally underrated.
@@craighenry2351 I'm not sure exactly what you mean with that first sentence. If you're saying the band was never the same after Chris De Garmo left, you have a point. If you're saying the band was never the same after Geoff Tate was fired, you're VERY wrong. The firing of Tate was what freed the band from the constraints he had imposed on them ever after De Garmo's departure, forcing them to play weird and shitty music on album after album. Tate's replacement Todd La Torre wanted nothing more than to do actual QUEENSRYCHE music, and his arrival spelt an immediate and enormous re-improvement. The band's most recent album with him (so far - the next one is just finished and will be released shortly), "The verdict", even qualifies as one of the better albums of the band's entire history. That one could be a direct sequel to "The warning" - I kid you not.
Hey Erik. You’re living in a false reality.
Ask anyone in the PNW who followed (and many knew) the band well over the years.
Tate lost focus of his health and his range tanked.
Then he got a bad attitude and starting treating people terribly, including his own bandmates.
Then his artistic vision went sideways. A Queensryche burlesque show? Really?
That was his idea & he forced it on the band.
And when fans didn’t come out to the shows Geoff got even more bitter.
And to say that Todd didn’t want anything to do with classic QR songs is absurd. He loves those songs & sings them in the most respectful way possible.
Had Geoff stayed in the band they would have completely disintegrated.
Todd came along and kept them going and got their passion back.
And when Geoff saw this happen he started focusing on his health again and in the last 2-3 years he’s getting his pipes back.
Maybe a reunion will happen someday but if it doesn’t, it was 100% because of Geoff.
Queensryche's "Jet City Woman" is one of my all-time favorite songs, yet I haven't found any of the reaction channels do it yet. I expect you'll love it too!
Yes, the Zepplinesqe guitar sound (very similar to what Jimmy Page does on Presence), Tate’s, as usual, stellar vocals and the phenomenal lyrics make it the best Queensryche song after 1988.
If you liked this song check out the song Queen of the Reich by Queensryche.
Awesome. I actually suggested this moments ago prior to seeing your comment. Such a great song.
The lady wore black
Queensryche : Operation Mindcrime....one of the GREATEST Concept Album EVER released in Music History!......Geoff Tate has a FEMALE Equivalent : Brittney Hayes /UNLEASH THE ARCHERS from Canada....you will be blown away by her for sure...check out THE AWAKENING.....
Agreed! I'd LOVE to see these two react to Awakening
YES! Seventh Son of a Seventh Son is tied!!
Agreed. I'd love to see you two react to "Awakening" or "Tonight We Ride"
Geoff Tate in his prime is the only vocalist I think that was better than Freddy Mercury
Midnight from Crimson Glory is better than both.
Don't forget Michael Kiske, John arch, Tony Harnell, Bruce Dickinson, Ronnie James Dio, John Bush, Rob Halford, Ray Adler,Jason McMaster...
@@The1WhoKnowsTheTruth Midnight over alll!
Much better
I totally agree with you on that
Loves it when you guys fell back on your couch in the beginning and at the end your mouth just dropped when he hit the high notes. Great reaction.
Ive seen Queensryche several times starting in the early 90's and they have never disappointed. Geoff is a beast!
I grew up with these guys , lived in the same cul-de-sac as the drummer in Bellevue, Washington
Nice! An old friend of mine grew up next door to Rachel from Skid Row. Always cool to be in on the ground floor of killer bands. Hope you got the chance to see them in small venues.
Very cool I used to go to parties that Jerry Cantrell would play at before AIC and seen Queensryche as rising stars in Seattle with Zebra for 3.50$..lol I’ve seen them 3 times over the years last time in 05 they never disappoint he couldn’t hit the high notes in 05 or chose to change the arrangement to save his voice I seen them with Judas Priest and neither of them hit the high notes after all those years Rock on
Queen of the Reich is another good Queensryche song
What an opening salvo from a great band. I have to admit, I got, The Warning first, but when I heard Take Hold of the Flame, I knew I had to hear more of this band. So I got the EP and heard Queen of the Reich. It hammers you from the start. But the EP had the perfect bookend with, The Lady Wore Black. What a power ballad. Another song from that time frame which was exceptional is The Prophecy. I first heard it on the soundtrack from, The Decline of Western Civilization, The Metal Years.
Albums that are essential: "The Warning", "Rage for Order", "Operation Mindcrime", "Empire"
You forgot the EP. Without Queen of the Reich and The Lady Wore Black, Queensryche wouldn’t be who they are.
Glad to see a younger generation liking the older stuff. 3:37 "Those drums though" Yeah, they're being introduced to Scott Rockenfield!
Operatic singing, perhaps even theatrical? I have just three words:
Ronnie James Dio
Although, Geoff was pretty spectacular back in the day
Check out the live version of Operation Mindcrime (Operation Livecrime, if you can find it. One of my fave live performances, and one I got to see in person During Queensryche's Empire tour)
for sure Dio, Tony Martin, Roy Khan, and Russel Allen
Eric Wiebe
Livecrime is the greatest. Saw it 4 times live and I own the video. Freakin love the Ryche! 🤘🏼
Look, Dio is a legend, but, and I will say this again, nobody else could hit those notes that clearly. Dio, I reiterate, is a legend, but he did have a slight raspy edge to his voice(And it fit with the music his bands played). That is what was unique, at this time, about Tate. He went ridiculously high and stayed crystal clear. He was like a more operatic version of Don Dokken, one of the smoothest hard rock/ metal singers ever. Let me repeat. Dio is phenomenal, he just isn’t Tate in his prime. Nobody is.
I dont think he's done any broadway but he was trained in singing Opera.
From an interview Geoff did in 2011,
“I’m pretty fortunate - I have a very strong voice, and I started out very early in my teens taking voice training.
I started using opera techniques, and it really helped me maintain my voice throughout a performance.
When I first started singing I could only sing for half an hour before I’d start losing my voice, so with the training it gave me a lot of stamina. I can sing for three hours now and not have a problem.
I think that’s really the key: doing the breath exercises and staying healthy. That’s a big part of it. Exercising every day, getting lots of sleep, which is paramount when you are on the road.
My body needs eight hours every day, and if I can get the proper rest I can do shows continuously with no break. In fact, I don’t like to take a break. I like to just power through a tour and not have a day off. But that’s just me"
At a club in Baltimore 1985 .. During the lead .. Geoff Tate " Singer " climbed up the PA system and Took My Hand !!! .. Stayed with me while the guitarist did the lead .. I will never forget .. Saw them in concert in '83 when I was 15 in Sacramento. They are so amazing live. Geoff Tate could do Broadway I'm sure, as well as opera, really any genre. He's amazing.
There's absolutely no doubt that Geoff Tate could have done Broadway in his prime.
Geoff Tate was Classically trained, and his vocal range in his prime was amazing.
Geoff Tate is actually a Baritone (about mid-range if I remember correctly), but due to years of study and training and practice he extended his range up to that of a Tenor.
He spent most of the song in the 5th Octave, and while I have no musical talent whatsoever, even I know that the 5th Octave is NO JOKE and is difficult for ANY singer.
And Geoff Tate hits the highest notes, the E5, while still being in normal 'Head Voice' and NOT in Falsetto.
Now days he's a shell of what he used to be, but in his prime Geoff Tate was absolutely UNTOUCHABLE.
Just my own personal opinion anyway.
With a voice like that, who CARES what's hangin' from his sleeves...? This entire band is stinking incredible...
It's so exciting to see young people enjoying the music my generation grew up listening to. One of the wonderful things that social media can do in sharing to others.
This song gives me chills. He can really sing. A true rock star 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
One of my top 3 bands of all time... seen them in concert about 8 times. Awesome.. thanks ..
Compare that to modern music and tell me the 80s weren't way better, no competition.
It's not even close
@@3YearsApart1613 metal guitar Olympics the entire decade along with some really top notch singers.
Hell yea. Our generation made the best music EVER
Yeah, you guys had the same reaction I did when I was 13. I'm 51 now. It still never gets old. Great pick.
Steelheart or Savatage are both interesting bands to experience for the first time, and if not, Dream Theatre.
I love Savatage's rock opera, Streets. I can listen to it from start to finish every time like Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime.
Savatage is THE best Prog metal band. Although they started as straight metal, they always had Prog metal concepts. Then they did three, that’s three concept albums in the 90’s. Then they went and invented Trans Siberian Orchestra. Savatage you s the base band for TSO and their founder (Jon Oliva) is also the co founder and inventor of TSO.
@@craighenry2351 the more I listen to savatage the more I love em, such an interesting and unique band
He is one of the Metal GOATs for sure. Incredible band....
Now THAT'S great music. And unbelievable vocalist. 🎤🎤🎤
One of my favourite song from them.
Aren't these kids just the cutest! And with good taste in real, actual music? My goodness....
Thanks Francis..I think they are pretty cute too
You gotta love how these kids have such awesome parents that they are exposing them to great metal at such a young age... And love them enough to correct them on their interpretation of the band singing "Hey, Ho" in the background, then splicing in the edit of the kids laughing about it at 4:53. And years later, this brother and sister team produced Iron Maiden's 49th album. lol There is hope for the future of rock...
I think they were singing "Snake Bones!" in the background.
Ha
I'd love to hear you guys listen to Judas Priest. Maybe Victim of Changes?
Queensryche were such an amazing band, queen of the ryche is the first album I heard back in the early 80's when I was a teenager and never forgot it and listened to them ever since, they were powerful like iron maiden, just amazing vocals and musicianship, I hope you have a great day my friends and are safe and healthy during these times with the pandemic going on. I saw a post with people praying for someone's recovery from cancer, my fiance's mother has stage 4 cancer and she just sleeps all the time now, I remember when she rode her Harley with her husband and worked full time and was really active, very sad how life can change for the worst and how fragile our life's are.
So sorry to hear about your fiance's mother. I will let the kids know and we will say a prayer for her. Thanks for commenting, and hope you have good rest of your day.
@@3YearsApart1613 thank you very much and have a great day also. Thank you.

Walk In The Shadows
The Killing Words

Silent Lucidity
Last Time In Paris
There's no band like Queensryche, saw them for the first time in Manchester UK back in November. Unbelievable band.
While I respect your opinion, any 'list' without Lady Wore Black isn't first is incomplete.
Rage for Order
Queensryche in the 80's were extremely PHENOMENAL!!! Their first self titled EP and albums The Warning, Rage For Order , and especially their MASTERPIECE Operation Mindcrime are amazing albums. Geoff Tate is definitely one of the greatest lead singers ever in all music genres. I remember back in 1988 when I first listened to Queensryche and how impressed I was with the whole band and especially Geoff Tate's lead singing big time. The first song I ever listened to was Eyes Of A Stranger on MTV'S Headbanger's Ball back in 1988 and I was barely 10 years old. Ever since I have been a huge massive fan of theirs, and I bought the majority of their albums and I have seen them in concert a few times. Their studio album Operation Mindcrime is a MASTERPIECE!!!! It is easily one of the greatest albums ever in my opinion. Even though their studio album Empire was their peak in popularity, their studio album Operation Mindcrime was the album that put them on the map and noticed by all fans and musicians. One concert I saw Queensryche do back in the late 80's, they played every song off the Operation Mindcrime album, accept Suite Sister Mary and The Mission. That is one of the greatest shows I have ever been to, and the setlist was amazing. Great video reaction guys!!! I enjoyed it big time. The look on both of your faces when Geoff Tate did high notes ,was the exact same look I had on my face when I first heard Geoff Tate do a high note over thirty years ago. Take care and I look forward to more of your video reactions.
Geoff Tate and Bruce Dickinson, not necessarily in that order, are my two all time favorite metal vocalist.
2 of the greatest one for sure, not to mention Dio, Russel Allen, Sebastian Bach, and Tony Martin
Halford and Midnight must be mentioned here. Also Jon Oliva.
What he said 🤘
Add James LaBrie from Dream Theater as well. Michael Sweet from Stryper too!!!
Eric Adams ,Robert Lowe , J.D Kimball (R.I.P), Michael Kiske, Ralf Scheepers, Andre Matos (R.I.P) i mean we are spoilt for choice in metal aren't we ?
It's nice that the younger generation is giving old music chance.
Keep rocking!
You two cracked me up when you were laughing at what the lyrics weren't 😂 absolutely hilarious.
Hey kiddos, it's really cool to see you both watching and enjoying this. My son is 9 and I want him to see some of this great stuff, but he's not interested much.
The "snake bones" you were wondering about is actually a long sleeve shirt cut into "strips" so they hang down. It was a popular thing in the 80's.
Stick with it. Your son will get there.
Aw man, this is gonna be a treat. One of my favorites!
it was great
The "Hey! Ho!" part was absolutely hysterical. The two of you remind me a great deal of my niece and nephew (who are about the same ages, too).
Someone else may already have made mention, but it's really cool to see the two of you listening to this music for the first time that I also listened to for the first time around the same age.
When I was a sophomore in high school (1985-86) I traded something to a friend to get the VHS copy of Queensryche: Live in Tokyo. Almost every day that semester, when I got home from school, I went to my room and watched the video start to finish. Good times, good times.
Geoff Tate's mother sang opera and Geoff was trained to sing opera his whole childhood.
3:30 Best reaction ever
The amazing vocals just blew them back..lol
You guys are doing an awesome job reacting to this songs. Keep it up 👍
Check out Rainbow "Gates of Babylon".
Saw them open for Metallica in January 1989. Operation Mind Crime had just come out. They were unbelievably good! They literally blew my head off!
I saw them in 95'; front row centre with my mom! And again in 2000(no mom); Geoff ran back onstage after their bow, to slap my hand(Medium size theatre). That was pretty cool. ✌🏾🤘🏾🎶🎵
The older you get followed the years of music that they made and you will realize they never stop turning out good music every song every album very rare for an artist to be able to do that.
Seen Queensryche live 5 times. Been front row twice. Roads to Madness or Queen of the Reich are epic Queensryche.
These two are great! Makes me miss the energy of my kids now that they’re grown and out.
Geoff Tate performed this as an encore, after playing for nearly two hours. It's an amazing performance from a guy known for amazing performances.

Halford schools them all at one point in this song for sure.
Saw them in a little bar in Dewey beach delaware, my wife and I got there really early , in the middle of winter! They bought us dinner! I was shocked when the bill came, waitress said it's paid because we were fans! Best concert I have ever seen, at 60 years old, only 100 people there wow they put on a show like they were playing in front of a 100oo!
That is and has always been my #1 Favorite live rock vocal performance.... Geoff Tate is a legend and has superhuman vocal chops.... try Silent Lucidity.... it’s a different kind of song but his understated vocals are just perfect...
Queensryche is a legendary band. They have a huge catalog of great songs. Check out their other songs like "the Lady Wore Black", Roads to Madness", Eyes of a Stranger",etc.
Queensryche has a dang good catalog! " Screaming in Digital " is one of my favorite.
Someone finally mentions The Lady Wore Black besides me. I’ve seen 7 different reactions to Take Hold of the Flame and read through the comments. Many (Good) Queensryche songs are mentioned, but nobody mentions The Lady Wore Black. Maybe it’s because they all heard newer versions of the song that are totally inferior to the original from the EP.
I feel very fortunate to have run across this channel. Your kids have a great attitude and a bright mind. If you don’t mind, I would like to request a song. Skid Row “Slave to the grind”. was always one of my favorites. peace guys!
I was way into Queensryche when I was a kid, thanks to one of my uncles. I'm currently back in a Queensryche phase and listening to all the old stuff, which lead me down the UA-cam rabbithole of reactions to Take Hold Of The Flame live in Japan. This is probably the 6th one I've watched and definitely my favorite. The reactions are enthusiastic and genuine, and I was laughing my ass off half the time. Good shit, kids. Keep at it.
If this video and music gives YOU youngsters hope then that give ME hope for the future of music. So glad that people so young like the music I grew up with. Great video you 2... keep it up.
One of my favorite songs by Queensryche. I was 24 when it came out on the radio
I was 23 in 1984, when it was released, and to this day, I have never heard a better rock/metal vocal performance. From the first time I heard it, I knew this was the best vocalist I had ever heard.
I briefly owned Scott's last tour drumset before he left the band in 2016. He had signed the inside of all the drums and the cymbals.
Check out "The Sentinel" by Judas Priest.
How cute, I love your reactions to songs, I recommend the band Angra (especially the song "Carolina IV") greetings from Chile
Cant believe I was their age when this came out😂😮
One of their best songs
I was your age when I discovered this band... it's my favorite Metal band... by that time I was already playing guitar on my own, bout to begin playing in local bands.... and this album stayed in my walkman for a while... Queensryche was a very important influence for us... pleas check out Operation Mindcrime.... you'll see how well informed this guys where ... also, it is a very good example of how a band makes an evolution in musical style ... listen to Silent Lucidity... and check out the lyrics, you'll see this guys went really far with their message ... keep it up kids, there is hope for the world!!!
He studied singing under the late Maestro David P. Kyle. His aunt was an opera singer and that is where his first and main influence came from.
One of rock's most amazing bands! Try I Don't Believe in Love, Eyes of a Stranger and Silent Lucidity.
They definitely need to check out all of those at some point. Thanks for the suggestions.
Finally, someone mentions I Don’t Believe in Love in the same breath as Eyes of a Stranger. The latter had a much larger commercial release. In fact it was a few years before I heard, I Don’t Believe in Love. But when I did, as good as Eyes of a Stranger is, I realized there were s no comparison. Musically, I Don’t Believe in Love, love is just better but lyrically, that is the difference. It puts into perspective all of those relationships I had that didn’t work out and how I felt when they were falling apart. Is it all worth it, well yes (Pain by Three Days Grace explains that well) but not at the time.
Nothing can beat Geoff Tate's voice!!
Queensryche is my favorite band. They have tons of good songs. “Silent Lucidity” is the most well known. It will give you his deep range
One of the best voices in metal EVER! Sadly that range is gone now, but still great.
Queensryche is one of the first metal bands I saw live. Sadly, this lineup is not around anymore. Geoff Tate is a brilliant singer. He, Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) and Rob Halford (Judas Priest, Halford), actually did one song together at a live show, I think in London. If you want to check it out, the video is called "The One You Love to Hate Live Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson, Geoff Tate". There is a studio version of that song with Rob and Bruce. Pretty heavy.
One of the most underrated Bands ever! 😍🤘
Thats some funny shit. I will never be able to listen to Queensryche again without thinking "hey! ho!" and if I see anyone with fringe or tassels on their jacket, I will think "snake bones!!"
Out of the mouths of babes.
@@3YearsApart1613 For sure but one thing we can agree on, makes me sad i dont have that range to
I loved the whole album. It was their first and the first time I heard it. If you listen to most or all their albums it tells a whole story. Very interesting.
Your face when Geof's voice kicked it, took me back to 85 when me and my friends first heard his voice. Crazy thing is they are still going on, yet what you loved about them, singer, drummer and guitar player are all gone, (not dead, just gone, guitar player is a commercial pilot just as the singer in Iron Maiden is). Band has some decent replacements and the new singer/drummer does both well.
Claire expressing her like for high range vocals ..
Check out "Nailed" by Theocracy ..
Based on her other reviews, she is going to appreciate the lyrical content ..
And bonus, the singer was chiefly inspired by Queensryche ..
I saw them on this tour in 1984 with Kiss. They were incredible.
Queensryche and Iron Maiden, that's all you need!🤘
On the EP, there are a couple of Iron Maiden riffs that Wilton and Degarmo play. In fact many bands of that era borrowed Maiden riffs for their songs, Example No Remorse by Metallica.
I'm old , so no instagram here ,for poll.but I agree with the previous suggestions of queensryche operation mindcrime album. Nice to see young people with a sense of value for quality musicians and vocals. 👍
Just for showing them that one group/song, you should receive Father of the Year award.
the best show i ever saw was queensryche opening for metallica on the and justice for all tour it was so good we went to it 3 times in 1 week amazing wish i could go back again
Hell yes!
Great to see that you both appreciate great music! I actually went to see Queensryche LIVE and loved their performance. I also recently went to a Metallica concert (2018) and they were incredible! I’ve been a huge fan of Metal since the early 80’s and it never gets old. I like all kinds of music, but metal has been my favorite music by far! More people should appreciate it because there’s so much talent, energy and longevity behind many of these iconic bands!
I had the privilege of growing up in Seattle with Queensryche (where they are from) you guys should check out “when the rain comes “ and “ one of their songs with just the singer and piano “someone else “ awesome songs they have so many
Thank you for pointing out Scott's drums.
nice song i love queensryche ! for many years
Saw them on the last Operation Mindcrime tour back in the day. He can still sing.
Minds blown
I'm 57 years old and Queens Reich is my favorite band, Really cool to watch Clair's face when Geoff Tate hits those high notes! Really great to see the younger generation at least get a taste of what the best of rock has to offer!
It just really shows how many people missed how amazing this performance was when it came out. Every reaction I have seen, without fail, is the same. You see shock, awe and amazement. I just hope more kids listen to this song (And do it with an open mind). Then more people will understand what I did, back in 1984. There is no other singer that can reproduce that. Not even Tate can anymore.
Queensriches lead singer Geoff Tate was just in Buffalo NY this past February and played to a much smaller venue but one of the Best concerts I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen queensriche four times over the years. You kids are listening to one of the worlds all time best singers. Ty check out “Empire” or “eyes of a stranger”
You guys are adorable!! I love ya! And I love that you can appreciate real talent in a current world full of autotune and engineering studio tricks. These guys are the real deal!
"I hope these guys are having fun, because they sure look like it."
But the fun would end and Queensryche would never be the same. Next on VH1's Behind the Music....
I loved your Hay! Ho! review of this song
Geoff Tate has an amazing voice incredible range you will not hear a singer sound like him ever. You should check out the Album Empire by Queensryche and the song Silent Lucidity
Walker really believed he had snake bones hanging from his shirt...lol
They are ropes/string I believe
yes, but snake bones are way more cool. only from a mind of a child..lol
the rarest thing of this band that exists is their ability to change and no song will sound exactly alike or remind you of another song that they made.
Another Broadway person, no my dear you have found the 2nd member of the "Trinity". The first was Bruce Dickinson, from Iron Maiden. The third is Rob Halford from Judas Priest...Three of the greatest vocalists of all time.
Didn't you forget someone? One that lived on a Silver Mountain.
The warning is the name of the album this song came from..listen to it . It will blow your mind. Read the lyrics to each song
you guys need to watch Queensryche's Operation Livecrime DVD from the early 90's
excellent concert!
