At his prime, Geoff Tate was one of the best vocalists of all time.
Amazing voice, charisma and stage presence.
Still is.
We saw him in 2019 doing operation mind crime and he sounded amazing still
Agreed. Hands down.
@@paulkruger491 I'm happy you think so.
The album Operation Mindcrime by them is fire from beginning to end.
It's a masterpiece.
I'll add an amen to what you said! Really enjoyed your reaction to MY favorite band! GEOFF TATE is the singer, SCOTT ROCKENFIELD is the drummer. EDDIE JACKSON, bass. MICHAEL WILTON and CHRIS DEGARMO on lead guitars.
This is the original line-up (the one I love). Queensryche still exists, but Chris and Geoff are no longer in it. Still there are many fantastic albums for you to explore from the original QR (pronounced: queens-rike).
And BTW, what little I heard of your voice is quite nice! Please listen to more QR -- you won't be sorry!!
IMHO, Operation Mindcrime is their magnum opus. Saw them do it live ... it was awesome.
@Sherry Tipton, Hell yeah ! Operation Mindcrime is my favorite album across all genres period. I saw Queensryche perform this entire album in concert in Joliet, IL over 30 to 35 years ago when they opened for Metallica who was promoting their And Justice For All album. Best concert I have ever seen. Brings up the nostalgia in me!
@LIKE WOA U CAN'T CANCEL ME great albums as well but Operation Mindcrime is a masterpiece, IMO.
Singer is Geoff Tate (pronounced like Jeff), drummer is Scott Rockenfield. Guitars, Chris DeGarmo and Michael Wilton, bass is Eddie Jackson. Band name is pronounced Queens-Rike, like bike. They have a lot more music that is just spectacular...
It’s time for an LFR Family album review. Queensryche Operation Mindcrime album
Hell Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!
Totally Agree
Congrats to Geoff Tate. He is a new Grandfather today
Really? How cool!
Yes he is! I follow him on Facebook.
I grew up with these people. I got to hear Geoff in an old building on the "old brick road" before he was even in Queensryche. The band was called Myth. And trust me, in the 80's, he was as good as there was on the planet! The guys are all fantastic at their craft, and very good people to boot. Stoked that the world is lucky enough to share in their greatness.
Probably the most underrated band of all time. Insane vocals, incredibly talented band.
Geoff always shines. The rest of the band does too. Incredible musicians all.
Queensryche's first 5 albums are some of THE BEST albums of all time. Not even debatable. They made the foundation of Progress Metal.
His voice was on fire. He amplified his voice AND the energy in the house to heights rarely achievable. It is supernatural and so is the message. Take hold of that VIOLET FLAME!
Bro, you probably just heard the best live performance in the history of music👌👍😂🎶😉💪
truth
AC/DC is my favorite band ever and I want to pick them in Donnington 91 as my favorite live show ever, but I am inclined to agree with you. Geoff Tate went beast mode in Tokyo of 84 like no singer ever has.
You can wear what you want when you have talent like that. Genius at work.
One of the best singers (heavy metal or no) of all time.
I was 14 when I first heard this song, it grabbed me by my soul, and I’ve been under its spell since.
Geoff Tate is one of most talented singers ever to grace the airways! Seasoned in Opera! Too many epic hits to pick just one! 👏👏👏👏👏
Queensryche is a legendary metal band. They have a huge catalog of great songs.
Thank you for noticing how good the WHOLE band is. And of course GT is otherworldly here. It's just astonishing every time I watch/listen!
It's pronounced Queens-Reich brother! I'm so glad you got around to this one! Geoff Tate is a friggin monster of a vocalist!
You will be blown away with eyes of a stranger. Master vocals!!!! And he was GORGEOUS 😁
More impressive... it's live, he's running around, and it's the encore of the concert. Didn't
miss a beat.
Operation Mindcrime (album...not just the song) is a masterful concept album. The story it tells from beginning to end, if you pay attention to/read the lyrics, is very special. That's the reason I hesitate to suggest reacting to a single song. Because literally each song is part of the story, and they kind of all go together. 'Needle Lies', and 'Eyes of a Stranger' are probably two standouts for me, but the whole album is pretty amazing.
In my opinion, Mindcrime is the perfect album
They are from Washington. Geoff Tate was the lead singer. The drummer is Scott Rockenfield. They are an awesome band.❤️
Imagine how it was for those of us who were in the audiences of all the Queensryche concerts in the 80s and 90s. It was stunning. I remember standing and closing my eyes, listening to the sound of Geoff Tate's voice bouncing off speakers and into the air around me. It was mindblowing. The only other time I heard anyone come close to the same tremendous sound that surrounded you was listening to Ann Wilson during a Heart concert. The best part of the 80s and early 90s were the concerts. Queensryche ... oh god, the memories I have. I could go on for hours about how great they were.
My favorite singer/band of all time!!
Got’s to do “Queen of Reich” from this concert or studio version.......BANGER !!
the power that geoff tate has as a progressive metal singer is just spectacular ladies & gentlemen
Welcome to the world of Queensryche Van. To really appreciate Geoff's vocal range, listen to Rage for Order and Operation Mindcrime in it's entirety. No one but Freddie could touch Geoff's range.
They are from the Seattle Washington area, Bellevue to be specific. They were home town heroes in the 80's. some of the first rockers from Seattle that made it big (besides Jimi Hendrix and Heart of course). way before the grunge scene hit.
Co-signed!
Metal Church was another kickass Seattle band in the 80s (YES, I know they formed in San Francisco, but Kurt Vanderhoof (who formed the band) moved back to Washington after a year and they "cut their teeth", so to speak, in Seattle). They got sort of passed over, which was kind of criminal IMO. Those guys should be up there on the list with the other 80s metal icons.
@@philpennington826 i like Metal Church. TBH I first heard of them on the song they did with Sir Mix-A-Lot back in the 80s. He's another Seattle hometown hero from before the grunge scene got big.
@@chrisstorms7511 LOL I forgot about that. They played the music on Mix-A-Lot's "Iron Man".
I'm familiar with Mix-A-Lot. I'm from Tacoma. He was one of my heroes when I went through my hip-hop phase in the 80s. 😋
'The Warning' by Queensryche, which is the album this song is from, is a progressive hard rock/metal MASTERPIECE through and through! MASTERCLASS all the way!
Thank you! Tired of the newer fans talking about Operation Mindcrime. Yes, it was great, but The Warning, that's the one, from start to finish.
I've watched countless reactions to this song and you're the first one to mention the drummer. Thank you!
Silent Lucidity, Jet City Woman, and Eyes of a Stranger are all songs you need to check out from them.
The only thing better than music is watching those enjoying music.
The 80s metal bands had some really great singers!
I don’t know if you have checked out Silent Lucidity by Queensryche already, but that is an amazing song also.
You could also try Epic by Faith No More, 311 is also a good group with a lot of good stuff, also pretty much anything by Sublime.
@@knickydymondz33 At least not the Queensryche song that everyone requests because it's the only one they know.
Geoff Tate is one hell of a heavy metal singer. Recommendations by Queensryche:
"I Don't Believe In Love"
"The Lady Wore Black"
"Silent Lucidity"
"Walk In The Shadows"
"Queen Of The Ryche"
"WARNING"?
Good call(s)!!!
Literally the whole "Rage For Order" album is an exhibition. (Neue Regel, The Whisper, London, I Dream In Infrared, I Will Remember, Screaming In Digital, Walk In The Shadows...)
Suite Sister Mary, I dream in infrared, shit, just listen to their first five albums
Yes. Geoff still tours solo, no longer with Queensryche. I saw him last May and going again on 1/7. He's 63 and is still phenomenal.
I saw Geoff last June and seeing him again this September. I’m super excited!!! Seen him with Queensryche 6 times. Never disappointed. Geoff is the best of the best ❤❤❤
One of my favorite bands and one of my favorite drummers!
One of the things that a lot of people don't know, is Geoff was operatically trained. His intention, was going to be for him to be an opera singer. But by the early 80's, he realized he could take his instrument, apply it to the 80's heavy metal scene, and be a vocalist who was rather unique. You heard it, at the very beginning of this song. He has got such a pure voice, and perfect pitch, that he sounded like no other vocalist, at the time. I don't even think there's anyone current, that has a voice as pure as his. And certainly no one, in the hard rock scene. And here I am, 36 years later, still listening to, and enjoying, their music. And I think that speaks volumes about both, his amazing voice, and the band as a whole. Lots and lots of talent, in that group.
By the way, I have seen them live 21 times. Enough so that Geoff started to recognize me at the shows and give me the what’s up head nod every time. It was cool, it was like, Hey man, here we are again, let’s do this. Fucking Bad Ass live! Geoff is ELVIS! It’s really hard to take your eyes off this guy live, and standing up there with 2 shit hot guitarists who in any other band would get all the attention. That’s how impressive GEOFF is live. Really the whole band flat out, kicks ass. They deliver a super clean show every time. This is what a professional Rock band is. They have a really good catalog that goes back decades.
I am starting to think that our black brothers and sisters may soon lead the charge to bring metal back. Luckily reaction videos have brought in a new genre to a lot of folk that never knew what talent there was. And talent crosses every boundary. You are awesome brother! - Kevin Venture 🤘
I was moved by your authentic appreciation for this song and band. Thank you.
Saw them live front row as a teenager. I'll never forget it.
Queensryche are a cut above most metal bands. Very talented, performers, intelligent lyracists...progressive, very clever, and diverse.
This band at this time was untouchable. One of my all time favorite songs is by them called "The Queen of the Reich". It's possibly the first ever fusion of power metal like this song is combined with Thrash like 80s Metallica and it still holds up today because they knocked it out of the park.
My first concert, these guys and Ratt in 1986! Instant fan! Respect Van 👍 GT is a classically trained opera singer..
Geoff was glass shattering
Remember that this was live and they performed this song as an encore on this tour. So, he's already been singing for over an hour when he performed it.
Man, I love to watch people hear this for the first time. It just continues to back up what I believed when I heard this song shortly after it came out in 1984. Don’t even kid yourself, brother. I can tell you have a great voice. I can sing a bit too, but this guy is different. The first time I heard this and heard that first high note, I knew he was the best metal singer I had ever heard. It is 37 years later and there are quite a few people that believe that now, and the numbers are growing. I have seen 23 reactions to this exact video and all but one blew the reviewers away.
Now for some info. Queensryche (Pronounced Queens Rike) was formed in 1983. They are from the Seattle area. They along with a band called Fates Warning are the originators of what is called Progressive or Prog Metal. This style is very technical, melodious and full of harmony, yet it is still loud and still metal. Many of the singers of this style can hit some serious notes, but no one can do it like this guy. Prog Metal also tends to have very intelligent lyrics and most of the bands do at least one recording where the entire thing is one story. It can be called a concept album or a rock opera, but they are the same thing. This comment is getting long, so I will start another.
Greatest metal singer of all time period
@@GregFruit-bp1wo I agree wholeheartedly. Only John Arch is remotely close, but not as powerful or intelligible as Geoff!
Operation Mindcrime. The entire album is truly a masterpiece.
So is Rage for Order, even more so
Just saw him last night, he frickin' killed it!!!
Yeah, let's not forget this is a live performance, the whole album "Warning" is AWESOME, like so many of their albums. Check out "Walk in the Shadows" off the album "Rage for Order" and play it LOUD!!!!
🤘😎🤘
Dive right in to Operation: Mindcrime and Empire - two of the best they ever did with this lineup. Mindcrime is one of the best, if not THE best, concept albums ever. It's right up there with Pink Floyd's "The Wall."
I have been following this band my man since I first started out in the very early '80s that man's voice is blown me away for decades
Geoff Tate singing live back in the 80's was untouchable.
Scott Rockenfield on drums.
Chris DeGarmo on guitar
"TAKE HOLD" in a man voice. A lesson for life. Thanks LFR
These boys were immensely talented musicians and they brought a craft to their music that far exceeded their years. So much so, that they were signed by EMI when the drummer and the two guitarists were still teenagers, without ever having played a live show. No joke. Don't forget folks, this concert in Japan was before the release of their first full length LP "The Warning". The people in the crowd are there because of a 5-song EP, that's it.
Geoff Tate is one of the BEST vocalists to ever grace a stage and Queensryche are one hell of a progressive metal band.
One of the greatest Rock and Roll Anthems of all time. Period.
This is the absolute BEST reaction to Geoff Tate vocals I have ever seen to date!
You rock, Bruv-Luv!
Geoff Tate of Queensryche and Ray Alder of Fates Warning are my two main influences...
I'm the singer of Veritas Silent Script. 💯
From 8:12 to 8:33 where your mind is catching up to the insane vocals and you utter "That is crazy! Thats crazy!..."Thats Crazy" and the pure joy of a smile is one of the best moments i have witnessed on youtube, and the grin of amazement throghout is the power of music from any genre, you have earned a sub, great vid
WOW does this song brings back memories!
Love the reaction! This is/was my favorite band. Geoff Tate, so underrated, as was the band as a whole. You sing like that, you can whatever you want right!??
So I'm going to say the same thing about 100 other people said. Listen to Operation Mindcrime in order and keep the lyrics close. it's an amazing story it tells.
Yes, this can be your new favorite band.
the band is crazy good too.
Geoff Tate on vocals, Scott Rockenfield on drums. Scott was good friends with my uncle, they used to visit my mom and I when I was young.
anything from their Rage for Order album is a must. thanks for the upload!
Amazing group. So many great tracks...🔥🔥🔥
#BESTICAN
Man Geoff in his prime was amazing...one of the best vocalists ever. Chris Degarmo...he was awesome and the band lost a huge step when he left. Scott Rockenfield is one of my favorite drummers of all time...and with him not in the band any more I feel he is sorely missed. I would love to see Chris and Scott both come back to the music world.
Walk In The Shadows & The Lady Wore Black are my personal Favorites 🤘👊 Glad you enjoyed it.
I enjoy seeing people experience the voice of the great Geoff Tate for the first time! Check out Operation:Mindcrime...my favorite Queensryche album.
Omg you or someone on UA-cam needs to deep dive into this band. You won’t be disappointed. I’ve been a fan about 32 years.
I've been a fan since 1984, The Warning album. Saw them open for Metallica back in 1989. Awesome band, my favorite throughout high school!!!
This song came at the end of the concert after he had already been singing for two hours. His name is Geoff Tate.
I've been listening to Queensryche for over 30 years, but never had the chance to see them perform live. But a couple years ago, while attending another band's concert at a small theatre in Sydney, Geoff Tate appeared as a guest vocalist for a couple songs. What a treat.
Talent is talent no matter where or who it comes from. RESPECT!
Queensryche was, and still is a very talented and intelligent band. Operation Mindcrime is a classic album that is amazing. Empire, Rage for Order are 2 other fantastic albums.
"Shit, god-damn" is absolutely the appropriate reaction.
Glad you love the band… My favorite all-time!
LOL You're expression when he hit the first high note was priceless. THIS is why we don't give warnings. It's always organic when you don't give warning.
Van da man. You only did one song from your new favorite new band. Let's go!!
The peak for Queensryche + the start of Nirvana were #30years ago. 😎😎
This is Geoff Tate in his prime! 🤯
1 of the #GOAT metal singers! 🐐
Other Geoff Tate era Queensryche songs.
Queen of the Ryche.
Eyes of a Stranger
Empire.
Is Anybody Listening? Live version.
Jet City Woman.
Another Rainy Night.
Silent Lucidity.
At one time, Geoff Tate, Ann Wilson, late Layne Staley, late Chris Cornell lived Metro Seattle. They had the late David P. Kyle as their singing coach. RIP.
Your happiness at discovering a new 'favorite band' is infectious! Love your reactions!! Keep up the great work. Definitely check out the band's work on the concept album Operation: Mindcrime and the album Empire which is a sonic masterpiece.
Please follow up with his song Silent Lucidity - he starts out with a deeper pitch that highlights his vocal range in contrast with this song PLUS Silent Lucidity is a MASTERPIECE
Scott Rockenfield is the drummer.
Well-loved and respected drummer in the industry. 🤜🤛🤙
Queensryche is from Everett Washington. I used to live in Everett when they first started
Remember that song "We Are The World" that Michael Jackson and all the other pop singer's from the 80's did? Ronnie James Dio did a Metal song with all the 80's Metal singer's and guitarist, and Geoff Tate was one of the singer's. It's called" We're Stars" if you haven't heard it, check it out, it ROCKS
🤘😎🤘
Queensryche are awesome, my favourite is Eyes of a stranger
Seen him live a few months ago still sounds amazing his voice is a masterpiece
Brother I have had the most joyful laugh because of you. What Geoff Tate did for singing, you do for reactions! Big love from Texas my man!!!🤘🔥🤣🤣😃💯💯💯💯💯
Silent lucidity is a "must" ! Hi fam !!!!!
Lead singer is Geoff (jeff) tate. And he was the greatest singer and songwriter in rock music. And listen to operation Mindcrime it is a story.
Watch this whole concert on you tube well worth it. One of best live performances ever.
Geoff tate is the vocalist and in his day, he was a machine. Sounded like the record live. It's was almost impossible to believe that someone could produce what was on the record let alone sing it flawlessly live. Tons of guys can hit the notes but no one came close to all the nuances Geoff made look easy especially transitioning from chest to head.
Ya see.... THIS is what a "reaction" video should be. Entertaining. You are a funny m'fer.
I've seen then live many times. They sound just like this. Geoff Tate is one of the best.
Next you should do Silent Lucidity. Different vibe. Its beautiful.
yeah!!!! good reaction!!! Queensryche forever!!! Geoff Tate is awesome!!!
YESSSS.. you have to do the whole Operation Mindcrime album..and follow along with the story ... PLEASE
I saw this tour in Ft. Worth, Texas, and was hooked! The whole band is very amazing!
LMAO! " Y'all knew that was going to happen?" Yeah, I did.. Awesome band, seen them twice..
Opera singer doing rock simple as that 🤘
