Should definitely go with Full-Race's MK4 internally gated twin scroll EFR manifold, and a Borgwarner T4 twin scroll IWG EFR turbo (maybe the EFR8374 or 9180). One single internal wastegate to control both scrolls, still twin scroll turbo, tons more room and no need to route multiple wastegate discharges. Just route one single turbo discharge. Stainless investment cast turbine housing, aluminum center section, built in BOV (can upgrade BOV and WG to Turbosmart units), built in boost control solenoid. Same benefits, but way easier in execution = less things to go wrong.
this is the standard not-ebay route for turbo-charging bmw M5X motors because of how close the exhaust ports are to the passenger side strut towers/other size restraints. deffo costs more up front, but way easier.
@TJ Pass Yeah internal wastegate ftl, but I'm not sure it's worthy of a laugh react given twin scroll + EFR are kinda "the best" in terms of power vs response still. An EFR8474 on this would be awesome
I think that current turbo set-up would be perfect for a drag car. However, for your street car, get a Full-Race manifold for a twin-scroll internally-gated EFR. Super-quick spool and no worries about plumbing wastegates!
PLEASE change the O-ring on the crossover coolant tube thats attached to the thermostat housing. You never know when it will completely give out, and you can see all the crust from leaking coolant.
@@ev.mirags I had the same issue with my 2J and It was such a small leak I could never pin point it, but I could always smell it. I ended up finding it after pulling the engine for a full rebuild.
This build series has scope creeped to the point that zero work has happened on the R34 GTR, and you're working on two Supras instead of one. I love it.
A "good" set of ratcheting wrenches was one of the best tool purchases I ever made. I ended up with Blue Points because I couldn't swing Snap-On at the time, but they have been indispensable. They are nice and slim and get into nearly the same tight spots a normal wrench.
Seeing as your going for HKS style stuff, the hks twin scroll manifold for the t04z and t51r kits ran a pipe from each side of the collector to a single 50/60mm gate (depending which kit) they were divided almost the whole way to the valve of the gate
I'm still interested to see how the full-race manifold and garrett turbo do on another car, in a road course application, and not simple drag racing. They tout that the twin scroll aspect really helps with transient response!
It's so funny coming from a RHD country and thinking you might need to also consider that steering shaft as well with your waste gate returns possibly a lot easier on a LHD car. I think most of the RHD 2JZ/1JZ manifolds I've seen just push the turbo more forward so more room in rear for the gates. Surprised you ain't got a new intake manifold ?
so it's hard to tell from the angles of the video but something I would try is cut the tube off for the front wastegate and tuck a J bend under the turbo to come out next to the rear wastegate then you can run a y pipe off the 2 wastegates and down into the exhaust. the hard part is I can't see if there's actually room there to make it happen but from what I can see it looks like it's possible. and the part that will suck about doing that is ruining the nice coating on the manifold to weld in new pieces.
I think I’d shorten up that front pipe for the waste gate and face it down, I know putting a 90 directly on the manifold isn’t going to act directly on the waste gate as well, but it will get you more room and both waste gates are already 90 degrees to exhaust flow so it’s already not an ideal situation
Really enjoying the series. Doesn't using that massive oversized intercooler core that sounds like it flows 2-3x your power goals defeat the point of trying to minimize piping run/volume? Maybe I'm wrong.
how much power are you guys going for on this car? i ask cause an intercooler that big really isn't needed if you aren't going for 1100hp. the thicker the intercooler, the bigger the pressure drop inside and the harder it will be to get air across the fins outside. love the content guys💪
You could switch to a V-band manifold and V-band inlet G35-900. Only one rear-facing wastegate required then. G35 doesn't *need* a divided housing on a 2JZ, as the spool should still be very fast.
Buying Canadian products down the street from an American company 🤣 hopefully they get shipped directly from Mississauga to save on shipping instead of the T14's warehouse
It may be possible to squeeze the wastegate pipe under the turbo inlet, and back up between the turbo and the engine. It should work, though maybe some oval tubing is required to tuck it in enough.
Yo you should get an aftermarket inline coolant gauge sensor adapter i think mishimoto sells them and use the excess samco hose you cut off the bottom hose to make up the extra space for the top samco hose. And it wouldnt take months to run... just a thought.
Ive seen people put the wastegate on the exhaust housing of the turbo. Not sure is that viable on a twin scroll but it could be something to think about, and just block off the current wastegate provisions.
I have a twin scroll with a both wastegate tubes into a single divided wall tube into a single tial 44mm wastegate ..... It works well thou I do not run less than 26 psi.
Personally I think that is the incorrect turbo and manifold for your power goals. The borg warner EFR still outperforms the garrett G series. I would have used a 6boost twin scroll manifold as they use a single WG outlet, but its divided all the way through. That is what I did for the twin scroll setup on my GT-R and got away with a single 50mm Turbosmart Gen V WG. Spool is nuts.
Front wastegate pipe straight down in a U-Turn and run parallel to the frame rail? You should have room although radiant heat will be close to your intake pipe. Interested to see what you do. 👌🏻👍🏻
Guys what a build!! I'm keeping my eye out for the ultimate unicorn: SC300 with a manual transmission - I'd really love to drop a beautiful motor like this into a sleeper Lexus so I don't have to talk to Supra fan bois every time I get gas!
If it's a manual usdm sc300 your looking for you wont find any as all sc300/400 were auto in NA. But you could find or import a Toyota Soarer with the 2j and manual
Some Ontario police departments have been hasseling people about their aftermarket exhaust, emissions legal or not. Might be better off with a Vibrant Streetpower muffler since they're stockish looking.
This is probably pretty obvious but maybe you could cut or extend the part of the manifold that is making it so you cannot make the recirculatory connection

Can someone tell me the benefits of buying from turn 14 vs just buying from the manufacturer itself, for example buying vibrant performance parts from turn 14 vs just buying it direct from vibrant
I have to imagine inventory levels.. Distributors may retain more stock than the MFR themselves.. Another advantage would likely be for shipping time, when trying to acquire inventory from a manufacturer is further away (out of the country etc)... Lastly, if you are ordering a bunch of parts from different manufacturers (say for a project) you benefit from being able to order most parts from a larger distributor.. Less effort spent on sourcing etc.
Despite being German lol I'm actually kind of glad you moved away from the BMW's and VW's for a bit. Gotta do some dougnies and chooches when your done these! 😁

Correct, I'm guessing they will have a fabricator modify the outlet to be a 3in instead of the 3.5in on the intercooler core.
Yeah, wtf, I hate colder air and no heat soak, too!
The overall volume may stay nearly the same but you place the bulk of it where it can be used to cool the charge as efficiently as possible.

It may be possible to squeeze the wastegate pipe under the turbo inlet, and back up between the turbo and the engine. It should work, though maybe some oval tubing is required to tuck it in enough.
That front wastegate positioning is so weird and high up. Hypertune or 6boost manifold would be more ideal imo.

Dont know why you're worried about the stock radiator hoses, you've got all that additional sealing with the red silicon everywhere
The manifold doesn't so shit for quicker spool. Its more efficient on the top end. A crap log manifold with QSV is how you get faster spool.
Great episode.
In Australia some people cut a hole out on the turbo housing and weld the wastegate directly on to it
