YES! make the valvecovers black!!
YES !
A suggestion for next time…. Making solid metal pipe hard lines around the turbo and manifold is the best bet, keep all the rubber/silicone tubes and hoses far away from the turbo and manifold, even with insulation they can cook and fail, it’s such a common problem and making hard lines long enough to get away from heat sauces is relatively easy and looks OEM+ 👍
Watch out for that turbo oil feed line up against the manifold. Even thought the manifold is coated and the line is heat wrapped, it will definitely cook the line if it's touching.
Great stuff as always (red valve covers irritate me too DP).
DP?
Pete was handling those monster hose cutters with authority! Great job on the oil cooler setup. This car is gonna be a blast!
TBH I not surprised, Pete used to do vasectomies at his past job in the medical field. 😏
Good work guys! You have to start using fender covers, paint is taking a beating when you lean over the fenders.
YES
that little tap at 8:09 😖
Keep doing these big, in depth and honest builds 👍
Thanks for the shoutout DP! I have had a 25 row Earls oil cooler in that same bumper opening for 10 years and lots of very hard track miles. Car makes 5-600 whp, runs 1:35s-1:36s all day at Gingerman, and on a 95 degree day I see max oil temps in the 220-230F range from a temp sensor mounted in the pan. Can't wait to see DP ripping this Supra at TMP and hopefully some other tracks!
Nice. A
@@JeffKumler lol, track midwest's prestigious club.
4:25 thanks for the golden nugget! I had a vacuum cap on mine but now knowing these exist I'm going to go pick some up
I've used then before. It's a good idea to check on the cap from time to time because they will crack and leak.
I think that actually went far BETTER than expected! Congrats on a great first start up!!
That locking tab on the oil filter union is awesome! Every oil change is a nightmare for me right now. You just made a sale!
"The last 20% of the work, takes 80% of the time" a quote that can sometimes lead only to the rabbit hole.
OH YES !!! Pure bliss guys, this one gonna be quite the toy. Can't wait to see the challenges you come up for these beasts!
The Supra is the greatest motor vehicle ever produced!
Congratulations! Can't wait for the intake solution you have.
Fancy stuff. It's so nice how much quality parts work.
Such a good call on the satin black - can't wait to see what's planned for the airbox. 👍👍👍
Looks so much better with the satin black! Glad to see this thing running nicely, she's a beaut!
When Franz started talking I was disappointed he didn't sound like Ahnold
Please leave the valve covers, engine looks great… if it was a Honda you wouldn’t even think about a bright red cam cover classing with any other colours 👍
What a great build!! This has a ton of detail into it and I think it looks great! Sounds good also!
I built my own braided AN oil cooler lines for the 944 Turbo project for the first time. It was actually super fun!
@6:28 I've had that same issue with Driftmotion turbo kit. Comes with hardware which you do figure out but it makes life easier to at least notate what goes to what at least with a sticker on the bag for the individual hardware. example: came with shorter studs for turbo manifold but didn't know that till installing manifold and realized needed to cut two lower oem studs to fit the nuts on, once done sees the bag of hardware and sees two short studs looking at you. yeah that's not cool. it doesn't matter how professional you are, it's nice to have at least labeled hardware in the packaging if no instructions to the hardware comes.
@21:43 the satin black coil cover actually makes the red look better on the rockers in the bay lol. it stood out wayyyyy much more before, now it's actually just okay. PS if you were to black out the cam/rocker covers I'd Gloss black them to contrast with the mat black on the coil covers as Matte on Matte may not look as good. idk just a 2 cents thought. or u can do a color that's different all-together.
oh, Interesting break-in procedure. would love to hear more on this and why it's done to break the cams in that way. Intrigued. The more you learn.
Congrats on the successful start!
couldn't have done it better myself what a smooth startup
Would love to see you guys do an NA-t supra build the detail in which you build your cars is amazing
Sounds great! But can we take a second to appreciate how much better sounding the RB is in comparison? ;)
Great video as always guys. That Vibrant Performance Oil Sandwich Block locking tab is a great "Copy into the Automotive World" been used for years in aviation on small. bolts inside of turbine engines to prevent hardware from backing out do to vibrations, but again nonetheless a Great Copy!
What Vibrant said about the bellows actually happened to me except with a starter. My long tube headers were closer to the starter, so i added a starter blanket to prevent heat soak. Well the starter failed due to heat. The starter manufacturer didn't recommend the blankets cause they make a "baked potato" situation.
ahhh new SA to improve my morning, thank you gentlemen.
You 2 are one of the best channel.. glad to be subscribed!
2:01 innuendo alert! 😂 But seriously that's a clean install, great work guys.
So excited to see this on track
You realise now that the coils match the valve cover you're going to have to repaint the car to match too :D
Dark gray valve cover would look sick
Good job guys. Amazing vehicle.
Very nice. I said just before you guys it looks like factory engine cover. Much nicer in situ than the gloss. But it doesn't sound as good as an rb. Its like the only thing an rb has over a 2j.
That thing is looking amazing
Heads up on those Dorman caps because I've been looking to blank off the same pipe on my 1JZ: the 02253 is described as a Vacuum Bypass Cap on the Dorman site. It looks like it's only suggeted for coolant on Amazon so keep a close eye on it.
Good work, but agree with Dave on the red valve covers 👍
Coil setup is sweet
Great series and fun to watch you guys. How about doing a E9X 335i or 135i N54 engine next like you had at one point but with a big turbo kit and a full LSD rear etc?? It's the biggest and most affordable tuner platform out there these days!
Awesome guys fantastic work love watching you! I agree DB I think the rocker covers should go black!
a gray/green valve cover would look sweet imo
Did you say Franz?
Holy shit that's my old tuner from KTR in Mass, hes one of the best on the planet
Hey guys the cars looking great. IMO that red valve cover looks great as is.
Black out the valve covers guys.. I've gone for the murdered out look for my 1J vvti, everything is black/powder coated matt black and it looks great.
You should have gotten the Platinum Racing Products R35 coil kit for the 2JZ-GTE.
get those valve covers outta there!!! good stuff guys
Yaaaaaa. Those valve covers should go black. Or like a titanium silver. The diferent reds seem to clash
Sounds good! I know in the LHD cars there are generic auto parts hoses that can be used to clean up those heater core hoses, im sure RHD guys must have found a solution also
Should have used can bus type wideband controller. So much easier in wiring into cabin.
Dave.. We need some red in the engine bay! Not to mention that red always mean more horsepower! Those valve covers gotta be good for at least 5 bhp each!
Wrinkle black the valve covers 👌
mooooore supraaaaaaaaa videoooos please
Great build and awsome video! What is the bolt size for the vibrant sandwich plate to the 2jz block?
You really want to put a duct on that oil cooler. Even with stock twins and not pushing a heap of power I have oil temp issues at the track, and that's with a high quality HKS Type R oil cooler kit (16 row). Ducting helps considerably but still not quite enough in my experience so far.
Edit: and you will absolutely want to remove the washer fluid reservoir, that will block a LOT of airflow through the cooler. I have a smaller res now sitting in the engine bay.
2jzgte does have individual coils, it’s full sequential spark and fuel and the factory coils are good for over 600hp in stock form with the factory ignitor. What you seem to be referencing is it has 3 lots of 2 coils...still 6 individual coils.
Yes true. The struggle is 20 year old hardware seems to lose its effectiveness and always be the culprit of break up on these engines
Black valve covers all the way!
Need to do some metallic silver on the valve cover or coil cover. I think silver coil cover, wrinkle black valve cover.
I'll take one!
looking good
I know its not that big of an issue, but my OCD kicked in seeing that fan cover on the radiator...the entire engine looks so clean and new but that faded plastic kills the vibe
Why the 4 bar map sensor? You guys expecting -1 bar vacuum and +3 bar (ie 43PSI?) I go with a 3 bar, did I miss the IAT and EGT sensor install? Colder Plugs? E-Throttle? Dwell/Duty on Ignitors, KnockBlock? Launch/traction control, flat shift? What about e85 and ECS sensors? Lots of questions :-)
istead of header wrap a nice vented hood should be best to disipate heat
lack of drive by wire is a shame would of preferred to see a John Reed Racing M1 setup so we could see what it can really do!
I ❤to see you guy build a toyota aristo jzs161
Im curious why you ran rubber hose over the top of the turbo? No matter how much insulation you use those hoses are gunner melt. I think you didn’t think this out. Just my thoughts from past experience. Otherwise a great build.
Definitely paint those valve covers black.
Woot woot 👏👏
The saying is 80% and 20%. Vsauce did an episode helping to explain how it permeates everything in a video called The Zipf Mystery.
Love the worldpac Battery. Wish I could be your Account rep for woldpac but Im in the US side of the company.
Uhhhhh so exciting.
Can you run the Ignition Projects coil packs and harness with the stock ECU? Looks very clean and easier to service the spark plugs.
team black valve cover!
ill grab that old wiring harness off you guys if you plan on tossing it.
Even the 2J need nissan parts like the R35 coils.
Love the content!
Black out the valve cover, and satin the fan shroud too.
80/20 rule. Basically says 80% of work result is from 20% of effort. Also means that last 20% is 80% of your effort. Lol! Always how projects are though. Good stuff!
Watch some of the GTR challenge videos from Motive Videos on youtube and try to say JZ's sound better then RB's.
You mentioned Link ran you through some install questions. Do they help everyone or just UA-camrs? I've seen a few videos where they get what seems like amazing levels of customer support from Link, but never know if that's because it's promo or if they are just that helpful.
That was their tech line so anyone could call in
Timing belt looked like it was walking away from the front of the cam sprockets?
Dave: Pete do you know how these bolts go on?
Pete: ??? Seriously???
Lmao just kidding
Hi there speed academy. Nice work btw. Did you want us to make you out of this world steering wheel? Let us know. We got you
Finally I break top 5
Non vvti comes factory 6 coilpacks. Vvti versions are 3
速い!What a t-shirt! 😂
BLACK OUT THE VALVE COVER!!! wrinkle red is for ferraris and civics. :)
Def black out the valve covers!!
you really gonna do my OCD like that and not give me a 6th pop for the last coil pack at 6:08??
Im triggered by the vacuum lines going over the Turbo
Where did you buy the fittings for the oil cooler?
Was it supposed to say something if you bought something for the raffle
Do u trust that double side tape😉😅
Hey guys quick question did you throw away the old engine loom ? I need a knock sensor plug and the fuse box plugs aswell
GTR time...
Why you didn't go with a motec or aem
Anybody know what wrench that is at 1:21? That thing looks awesome.
What about the air in the tube between the valve and the bucket?
I had just recently bought a '95 Lexus GS300 with a 2JZGE in it, I am currently slowly disassembling the head to replace the gasket as it blew due to overheating. I have replaced then entire cooling system except for the heater core but does anyone have any recommendations to do while I have the head off?
