  • Modern Day is really cool, it got number 1 on my tier list. That doesn't mean it doesn't suck. This is the video covering why it sucks. Because it does suck. Simple premise, am I right?
    Joking aside, I think theres a decent amount that goes into a finale that PVZ2 doesn't exactly get right. This is me talking about that. Video may have been a little lower quality than my usual, I've been really busy the past while doing stuff for myself, but I think you'll still like it. Probably. I mean I hope, because god knows if you don't then I am doing a terrible job.

    The most dissapointing thing for me is that it doesn't have a original final boss.

      Yeah... Why we cant have any simple or complex bosses finale
      As a reflour enjoyer, i kinda happy this issue is fixed in this mod, although the boss is just a simple reskin, its still better than nothing

      I also think it would have been cool if more of the themes were used in moder day besides day (like pool and roof and fog would have been sick)

    It just feels like it cuts off, we get a taco with a waffle in it, Dr. Zomboss says his thing, and that's it. No real resolution, no ACTUAL reward after the hardest world, it's just over.

      The rewarding part is you finished the game and had fun creating your own strategies and struggling and feel the satisfaction when you finally win but I get your point when you reach the final peak of a game there should be a reward or at least maybe a new game mode that keeps you engaged or just a new plant or something

    When the portals showed up in Day 1, I was so hyped when playing it. I expected a lot of things like some sort of world merging (like Modern Day on the 1st half of the lawn and a different world in another) and a PvZ 1 Zomboss-like finale boss. Modern Day is such a missed opportunity. I would be so hype if modders could somehow recreate the same energy PvZ 1 Zomboss brought but in PvZ 2

      @Janrei Africa there is a limit one what can mods code but hey atleast they give as a proper zombot in modern day expansion and i kinda like that they utilize portals more and ambushes than the vanilla levels

    Modern Day feels like an extra world, not like a final world. There are no PvZ1 plants, only a new type of plant (shadow); there are zombies from every age to put the players to test; the zomboss is a random boss rush; and there are some old zombies that make their return to keep the originality. It's like it wasn't thought to be a regular world but they decided to make it one because they have to make the game the longest possible.

    What if Modern Day just...acted like it did in PVZ1? Like, after a few levels, you switch to the backyard, then roof. You could use more gimmicks while still allowing players to be prepared for the level ahead.

      I really wished the portal mechanic was done better because on paper it's a great way to say "hey, time to fight the variety of zombies you've faced across each world." But I would also be pretty down for a PvZ1-like world where maybe the world is 30 levels, and after the first 6 levels, it becomes night, then after 6 more it's backyard, then fog, then roof, with the addition of zombies from other worlds come in. Good call back to the original game while still having some freshness, as well as having you go back to use plants like the shrooms and lilypad again

      Exactly what i was hoping for in the first time playing MD. Different terrains could synergize with both zombies you encountered and given plants. Literally, you could imagine how pool lanes showcase flying zombies, snorkels and fisherman, while roof maps make parasols extremely threatening. I think for such vast amount of resources and potential pvz 2 & 1 have got, they couldve come up with something more creative

    I personally feel like the game should have ended like this:
    Modern day is presented as the final world, but is not actually the final world. The world would have all the original stages and plants to really get the player in that “classic” mood, however, the world throughout progressively gains more and more zombies from each world along with the zombie end of the garden gaining an increasingly obvious gaussian blur effect. The reason for this being that time is getting increasingly unstable due to Zomboss’ abuse of it.
    Eventually, the boss fight at the end occurs. It would appear to look like the original giant robot from PvZ1 but it would be upgraded with time doodads. As the battle goes on, Dr Zomboss looses control of time, causing the giant robot to start having pieces replaced by machinery from different time periods. After Dr Zomboss’ defeat, Penny tells Zomboss that he needs to stop due to time getting worryingly unstable, Dr Zomboss says something like “I’ll mess with time all I want, I won’t be defeated again!”. Dr Zomboss uses the time warp escape thing he always did with the previous boss fights, but it doesn’t work, he uses it again, it doesn’t work. After a third usage, reality around him tears apart in a vortex, engulfing the whole screen.
    This unlocks the true final word, Time Twister. Dr Zomboss, after seeing just how much danger he has put himself and the world in, finally becomes disillusioned. Although reluctant, he agrees the help the player try to restore time and unwhirl the time twister.
    This world would be the most difficult of them all, with harsh mechanics to match the tone.
    This world contains the shadow plants for they naturally live in a topsy turvy world (They are shadowy, yet not nocturnal. They also aren’t sunny like most plants) and because they have the sense of community to survive a harsh climate (their synergy).
    The zombies would be horribly deformed, with limbs in wrong places and misshapen facial features. The special zombies that inhibit this world would be chimeric amalgamations of zombies from the previous worlds to make new threats, like a “Ragonfly-achute zombie” (It is a mix between the ra zombies, dragonfly zombies, and pilot zombies from Lost City. They drop down randomly over the garden, steal a sun, and then get carried by the dragonfly on their back).
    The world gimmicks I came up with would be the rifts from original modern day, a mechanic the changes the look of the level to a previous world to gain the mechanics of that world (The twister background changes to a pirate seas one to replace half the garden with planks and gaps), and a twister that appears periodically to move the player’s plants around in a fashion like a “beghouled twist swap” if you know what I mean.
    The final boss would show the twister garden split in half by a large, horizontal rift. This rift is the one that tore reality asunder. With Dr Zomboss on the right, and the player on the left, the objective is to defeat anomalous zombies and to let anomalous plants be destroyed by Zomboss. During each bar of “health” that Zomboss usually has, the background changes to a previous world (Ancient Egypt being first, and Modern Day being last) with this background being what plants and zombies must remain, any plants and zombies that are not from the world must be destroyed. The exact way this will happen isn’t fully thought out in my head, but it would make sense for the Time Twister to be destroyed once all the anomalies are gone.
    With the unraveling of the Time Twister, the screen takes the player back to the modern day. Everything is fixed. Dr Zomboss admits that his plan was poorly executed and disregarded the potential consequences. Crazy Dave gives up on the taco from the start, seeing how dangerous time manipulation is and instead settles with great tacos made by Penny’s scientific brain (or something, I don’t know, this plot line is unbelievably stupid). To celebrate the triumph over the Time Twisted, the plants and zombies have a taco party together as the credits roll. This cutscene, will pan to the same party happening over the other time periods of the game to show that even though times may change, Plants and Zombies never will.

    They could have easily included pool levels from pvz1 to have them act as a mix between big wave beach using water plants and pirate seas planks and being able to knock land zombies in the water to kill them.

    The ending is genuinely embarrassing in comparison to pvz1's ending. The first ending is epic, satisfying, and climactic with 2 legendary songs back to back. In PVZ 2 you get a congratu-well done and a taco with a waffle in it

      Reminder that we went time travel in the first place is because crazy dave wants to eat his taco again. We achieve that goal in modern day. But the final boss itself is bad

      @@diputsnoob3815 I honestly thought the real reason was to solve the mystery with its origin of the zombie apocalypse and how it started within the PVZ universe while creating new discoveries along the way. I thought the waffle plot was just some gag joke. I still remember fake leaks of being able to go into the temple when their were only 3 worlds.

    They really should have found a way to add new worlds without messing with the timeline and story, I think that'd help a bunch in keeping the game alive. Now the only thing still keeping it interesting are the community-made mods and challenges... They should have focused on improving PvZ2 without releasing any new games, which is what most other companies do with successful sequels (with good examples being hcr2, polybridge2 and some others that I can't remember)
    Also I really don't think PvZ2 needed an ending, I'm pretty sure it'd still be fine if the story was altered to allow for more worlds without "stopping" anywhere, Idk tho that's probably just me

      Instead of just adding a lot of premium plants and Arena/Penny's Pursuit events, the idea of extra worlds would fit in a "Multiverse" mode, where you can find more plants, challenges, and maybe unlock a true finale for the game...
      Maybe Time Twister (but this time the time is broken, the lawn has floating pieces of a "reality material" and some mechanics of other world just combined, no falling sun, the reality collapsing more so everything in the lawn mess up more, and maybe a Zombot Hybrid/ Pvz1 Zombot with Pvz2 Zombot's parts)

    The way Modern Day is feels like they realized "Oh right, we still need to resolve the inciting incident for the story" and proceeded to mash together random bs without much thought, then tacked on the waffle taco so they could say the story is done, in the most bare minimum way possible.

    Most disappointing: No new final boss, and No Time Twister! Time Twister could have been a cool narrative, but instead it devolved into power creep city... er I mean, Penny's Pursuit.

    the biggest problem i have with the world personally is that despite being the world the entire game built towards since release, it doesnt feel like a final world and nothing about it feels original, i mean garden warfare beat them to superfan imp TWICE, the only zombie that feels like a final world zombie is all star with the other 2 just being buffed versions of other zombies, the portals are like trap tiles being a very cool idea that is never used and it still shares the problem that every other world has, most of it feels like filler, the normal levels shouldnt feel like breaks from the gimmick levels, and the shadow plants just never got used as a concept after modern day and they have had plenty of time for it too. the entire world from beginning to end and plants to zombies is a disappointment as a normal world but a failure as a final world. once you get past far future it really feels like something changed with popcap, it feels like ea rubbed off on them, i mean this game has 6 times the amount of levels and barely anymore content.
    sorry about the block of text but everyone needs to rant sometimes and i dont have anywhere else to do it
    edit: i hope reflourished has more planned past steam ages because so far the 1.5 worlds they have added have been better than the entirety of vanilla pvz2 especially because the game feels fair without getting premiums

      That's how it was. Either PopCap and EA just didn't care as much after Far Future, or their budget was reduced.
      Dark Ages had the least amount of levels, then Big Wave Beach was made longer to compensate but it was way too difficult.
      Frostbite Caves was ok, it felt like a balanced world for once. But Lost City and Neon Mixtape Tour felt rushed. This was the time when they would start dropping some features, such as minigame music.
      By the time Jurassic Marsh was released, they were already too used to cutting corners. It was also noticeable with Modern Day having zombies appear very early in the levels, probably as a last attempt to raise the difficulty.

      It was an interesting concept. It more so masked its lack of certain features (minigame and ultimate battle) with the various jams. Though I agree, Lost City felt like filler sometimes.

    Just started playing PVZ2, I saw modern day at the end, and thought "ooh what if they bring back more of the original zombies, let you play the pool and roof levels as a huge callback to PVZ1" I should've figured it wouldn't be that cool.

    I think the biggest missed opportunity here was a rematch with the original Zombot, we even already had Brainiac Maniac remixes
    And of course leave it to PVZ2 China of all things to actually make that a reality because the west just can’t get anything fun

      Ngl pvz2 and pvz2c atleast for me is both have terrible decision, the zombot you fight in pvzc doesnt even have boss music, and the fact world with 30+ lvl are dumbed to 25 is just ridicioulis
      Pvz2 also does this the thing that i LEAST appriciate are the fact it has 31 + 3 boss level, though at the cost lazy boss fight
      But hey i think they make sky city and cactus free in pvzc wich is a legendary plant so i guess you kinda true

      ​@@Rags666 I always complain about pvz 2 having different things in China as other people are going to have more trouble getting access to it with all the ID restrictions you have to get through just to play a game that is very laggy and sometimes doesn't even work.

      @@mr.productions327 because the point of modern day was that it was normal, a return to the original house. So having a massive robot mech from the first game return would make sense, especially when you compare it to the other zombot designs.

      @derpfluid variant091 but copy pasting a boss in a previous world is just lame and boring if popcap makes a zombot at least make it close to the world theme as possible (example Reflourished's Modern Day Zomboss) i mean look at the pvz2C version of The og zombot it felt rushed just for the sake of nostalgia

    I wish we got more of the PvZ 1 zombies in modern day like bungee zombies and zomboni.
    Also some actual PvZ 1 plants and not just shadow plants being unlockable.
    I like the portal mechanic and the fact that the world is meant to bring every world together and that sounds cool on paper but it could have been done better.

      cattal would have been cool if the cactus plant one didnt exist or maybe umbrela leaf (octos and maybe if they added bungee zombies) or they could even have some new plants INSPIRED from the original ones (like shadow peashooter but With og plants)

    I just beat modern day this week. And yeah, I was just like “that’s it!?”No unique boss, no end credits, not even a nice reward. It doesn’t even feel like I accomplished anything

    I think nightshades powered up form acting as more of a side grade is actually a really neat idea, and gives the plant a lot of utility as you can use it as a faux insta or a cheap attacker filling in the early game

    I really like the reflourished finales, steam ages is awesome.
    I think modern day should be the first world tbh, or at least half of it the start and a modern day part 2 for the end

    So... not sure if this'll be noticed. But genuinely, these videos have literally reignited a spark for pvz I hadn't had since I was a kid.
    In a time span of 24 hours, I not only binged a Bunch of videos, but I went ahead and redownloaded the game and bear two worlds with ease! (Thank my account that had all worlds unlocked prior to it being changed).
    But thank you. Hadn't had this much fun with this series, and I started it off with your Peanut video of all things XD

    Feel like certain world gimmicks could have been implemented better. Like the plank system could have been implanted as ditches dug across the yard, there could have been cloudy days that blocked falling sun and brought in fog. The lawn could get flooded which would serve as wave levels.

    I remember having heard of time twister (or something in that vein) from a friend. He said "Beat all levels, then you can get a new world and if you beat it you can choose 3 premium plants and get them for free"

    I'm being honest time twister would of been a perfect ending for pvz2, Dave eats the taco he ate before, creates a paradox and causes time twister. you could have each level in different worlds in the first half (anchent egypt, pirate seas ect) and then some areas we didn't go to like zombcorp and Rome, before the final section within the unique world area for time twister where the world is fixed by Dave destroying the original taco or something. the final boss could of been the boss rush we see in modern day then a special final boss of the dr. zomboss fight from pvz 1. it could even use the orignal textures for the roof and zomboss to show it was the pvz1 zomboss.
    overall the ending of the game feels poorly executed. which is disappointing as there was so much potential especially with the time travel concept overall. i wish the game got the ending it deserved.

    The Zombot should have been super hard and go to at least every world once. Everytime the world changes the seed packets that roll out change. That makes it even more challenging. Would have been hella long but worth it

    Fun Fact, When hardmode was a thing, Zomboss did have his own unique fight, yes It did steal sprites from the Far Future zomboss, It did give us a true final boss and afterwards, dave would have gotten to re-eat his taco. Also you could have mentioned me boy Brickhead Zombie

    Doesn’t help that there’s 3 worlds worth of new Zombies released to the game later on. Those should’ve been new worlds instead of timed events (or “Thymed Events”). Even Penny’s Pursuit takes place AFTER the end where Dave gets kidnapped by Zomboss and Penny has to go after him.

      Those 3 can easily be new worlds. Hell they could take some of the seedium plants and have them used for those worlds instead of making new ones.

    I personaly think monday is a terrible world because like, who in the world likes mondays? If I could change the world, I would change it to wensday because when ever wensday comes around you always feel a sense of calmness, its like you have reached the finish line and get a 2 day break. And thats my opinion on this very important arguement on pvz fanfic lore.

    my suggestion to improve modern day is another ending where zomboss will fight us with his classic zombot on the roof, and after being defeated, zomboss won't just give up like in the first game, instead he will pull up the hero signal making the zombie heroes from pvzh awakened, during the process, zomboss accidentically dropped his paper with a plan of destroying the suburbs using the power of zombie heroes, you will later continue to the next world which is a larger part of suburbia that you need to defend from zombie heroes, after defeating super brainz at day 35 penny will strongly suggests you to stop zomboss' invasion plan by destroying the ztech factory (from gw) you later get a map that leads to ztech factory and thats the last world where you do your last combat in 35 last levels which is in ztech factory, at the last level, you will fight the upgraded version of pvz1 zombot which can summon any zombies including zombies from events and from pvz1 not only that, the zombie heroes come back and decided to fail your plan by messing with your defenses (super brainz will shuffle your plants and carry zombies closer to your home, immorticia will turn your plants into zombats, rustbolt can weaken your plants by shooting shrink rays at them, etc.) idk how the level will end tho.

    Man I remember back when it came out and the concept of world stuff being mixed, I was wondering if there were going to be minecart power tiles, or even horizontal pools like the backyard to act like pirate seas days, and even spawning in Snorkal zombies/big wave beach enemies.
    The concept was so cool!!! and they just dropped the ball SO HARD
    Was also hoping for PVZ1 plants that hadn't come into play appear here. Like Gatling pea, Doom-shroom, Gloom-Shroom, Coffee Bean, & Pumpkin. I was excited to see a Coffee Bean rework, maybe temp boosting attack speed, ans the return of old plants that didn't get lost in time.
    The boss was also very disappointing, I was really expecting like, a cool boss that utilized time itself breaking, but nope, just three bosses back to back and... I agree, absolute dogshit ending. Wish they could've just made more worlds.

    Honestly what I find most disappointing about the world is the lack of a proper boss fight. In every other world, the bosses were all, more or less, copy and pasted versions of the same fight. I was hoping that when you got to the end of the game there would be some epic final battle between you and zomboss like in pvz1, but it's just.... 3 of the same copy and pasted boss fights you've already played... that's it. That's your reward for making it to the end of this significantly harder game.

    I actually don't find Modern Day as a world that bad. The shadow plants are interesting. It is cool to see old zombies from part 1 got reworked. The portal gimmick is actually pretty challenging and a cool idea, the devs just don't know how to use them. The only issue I have with this world is that it is a Finale. The ending isn't satisfying( just compare it with the end of PVZ1). They didn't even come up with an original boss. When I beat it, I didn't feel much of anything because the ending for beating the FINAL world is so lackluster.

    I think the major gimmick shouldn't have been time portals, but a time shift entirely. Similar to the rising tide and lowering tide mechanic. There would be a portion of the lawn that's stuck in one time period and it would shift either left or right. If a zombie leaves, it transforms into its modern day counterpart. If an already placed plant is engulfed by the time shift (by not being placed in their time period) and they have a hardcoded counterpart for that period, then they are replaced with the counterpart, otherwise they're rendered unavailable alongside that tile until the tide resides or a zombie eats the homunculus left behind. The time period could even swap each flag just to torture you. This could allow for a much more difficult modern day by incorporating mechanics from each world. For example, it could start off with Big Wave Beach, so you'd have to worry about the water tiles. Then it switches to Pirate Seas, and then finally for the last flag, a cold breeze hits your entire lawn and you have to stave off the cold in Frostbite Caves.

    I think the worst thing about the “final bosses” in MD is how completely unoriginal they are.
    1. I haven’t played PvZ2 in a while, so I don’t know if this is currently different, but when I played the three boss levels each of them could be one of a few different bosses. (For example the first boss level was one of the bosses from Ancient Egypt, Pirate Seas, Wild West, or Far Future, second was any from Dark Ages to Frostbite Caves, etc.) This also means if you try to reset a level, it has a chance of giving you a different boss. Because why have consistency in the supposed final boss of the game?
    2. The plants you get are different… in that they’re just the next chronologically released world’s plants and maybe one or two premiums. Again, super lame especially compared to the Gargantuar rush in day 16, which felt like you were throwing everything and the kitchen sink at them, and it felt awesome. For these bosses they literally just took each bosses’ plant lineup and moved them backwards. And all things considered they probably put 12 seconds of thought into this, because fighting Lost City’s boss with Phat Beet and Spore Shroom sounda fun…

    I think having modern day as the final world was an excellent idea, but like shown in the video, the execution of it was poorly made.
    Most of the world gimmics and enemies are focussed on instantly destroying your plants, which completely ruins the point of having plants to defend, since they can all just be destroyed instantly.
    The portals are very interesting in my opinion, but the lack of usage, presence of the joyster that is another complete counter to most plants that you needed to guess when it appears, and the portals just appearing on the 3rd collumn for no reasons makes them either useless or rage inducing since you die from something you could never have known before.
    Also, not having a real final boss to the game and how the ending was is just in general poor descisions.

    Yesssssss.... A video talking about my favorite world and why it absolutely sucked in vanilla. I know a lot of mods havent gotten to modern day yet, such as altverz for example, but the few that have made changes to it like RFLs MD expansion are absolute bangers. Here´s hoping that it can get changed eventually for these mods to improve this otherwise banger of a finale world.
    Also I might just start remaking MD levels myself because that would be extremely fun.

    I feel like they missed out on an amazing level idea by making a level exclusively portals so you would have to deal with zombies getting a head start on your lawn also tho should give an increased layer of strategy by using plants like split pea and bonk choy or hurricale and chard guard to either shoot zombies from behind or give yourself more leeway

    Modern Day did not even originally have the time rifts as one of its gimmicks. The rifts are from Time Twister, which as you can guess was scrapped - and was fused with MD instead of unused.

      scrapping time twister must have really messed up the plan for modern day. modern day feels like it was planned to be the last to second world with time twister being the finale. modern day being a little on the easier side would not have been an issue if time twister was the final world.

      @@randomprotag9329 during this time Seattle was also working on pvzH so that might’ve taken some time away from it being what they wanted. If they wanted it to run on a low engine they would’ve made it less spammy, they could’ve done a lot more but it feels like they just threw something together to finish it up rather than make a grand final ending like they originally hoped.

    I expected the final boss to be like a huge zombot esc merge of feature from previous bosses (like the vacuum from the shark and the ice from the mammoth) but instead we got 3 reused bosses with a plot twist no one expected (you have to use plants from other worlds)

    i played this game the same way you'd play pvz1 and expected literally anything except what the final boss and ending were. it was actually the most disappointing ending i've seen of a game i actually enjoyed
    i guess it makes sense since the game doesn't really "end"? but i do really wish the reward for finishing it would've been something useful at least

    Shadow Plants being so poorly implemented is such a disappointment for me since the gimmick is really interesting and could’ve been really cool if done right. Also, Moonflower is so adorable, especially with the little moon wand costume.

    Alright, spitballing ideas here, so just skip the big paragraph if you want to get straight to the point.
    I believe it would've been better if you could've played the worlds in any order, except the last one. Bring the time twister idea for it, that theme alone would've been a sick ending. Shadow plants are nice, but don't fit modern day, or the time twister idea. Instead how about fused plants, corrupt as a result of the sheer amount of paradoxical time travel (they could be kind of fuzzy, mabye they look like visions or spirits, for example mabye a puff-shroom with a spring bean base.) Use portals way more often, but mabye change the way they function a bit, like spewing out zombies from different time periods based on the plants on the field. Mabye have you and Dave return to modern day for a brief level, only to find out its too unstable, then the scenery changing to time twister theming. Make the final boss unique and epic.
    If I have to go into that many ways to fix it, then you know it's just broken.

    I think it should’ve been like this: they should’ve made new plants but also add some beloved pv1 plants but like from a variety of worlds so like doom shroom, cat tail, etc and also the shadow plants that actually work and then they could make a verity of levels like day, night, pool, fog, roof but it would be random just to be a tribute to the first game and the portals could be unpredictable and you’d have to be prepared bc u wouldn’t know what zombies would spawn. And then after the boss rush you unlock the real final world where your in the dimension in between time and everything is cracked and messed up because of zomboss so the game will force you to use certain plants in every level so u can’t choose and u gotta work with what you got. So then you teleport to the night roof and fight the zomboss robot as a finale to the game

    The thing about this zone is that it doesnt have a zone boss ,like it could have been the original boss from pvz1 or a combination of pvz2 bosses or pvz1 boss combined with pvz2 bosses ,and the zone itself is so much easier than jurasic and beach worlds

    I specifically remember feeling underwhelmed when I beat PVZ 2. I was expecting the final boss to be unique from the rest of the game, even if it was just the final boss from the first game. I suppose it also didn't help my satisfaction that I used powerups to "skip" the harder and "BS"ier levels (no real money was spent, I just happened to have a lot of coins piled up). I just wasn't excited when I beat this game.

    Now for a funny thing, I’m making a game. I use the Hollow Knight Reflections song to set up the dramatic moments as a template for when I eventually get my own music in. You used it for the conclusion about funny game of botany and zombie plague.
    That is very very funny to me.

    as someone who has never played or been interested in PVZ2 i find these videos so fascinating for seeing what the game is somewhat like and seeing what was majority pretty lackluster. very well structured and informational aswell so good on my man

      It wasn’t lackluster it was pretty good. It just how the game got worse because popcap got more greedy

    I never saw it as a proper finale and more of an arc bookend like Far Future prior to it.
    After Far Future it didn't seem like they were going anywhere with the plot, and it was just a road-trip experience.
    The fanservice of the Graze the Roof remix is the only thing that feels like a closing chapter here.

    Fun Fact: Back in 2017, the devs added extremely hard levels in some worlds, and one of the worlds were Modern Day, it added 10 days, and it introduced a completely different Zomboss, it played the Jurassic Marsh theme, and the Zomboss was the tomorrow-tron from Far Future, but it summoned different Zombies in the second and third phase. Unfortunately, they removed it a few years later, but brought it back in a form of an epic quest featuring 8 of its levels, it used to give you 100 gems, but they nerfed it to 80 gems.
    And now they nerfed the gems really hard now, it's now 25 gems!

    I feel like modern day should use portals like they spawn on the 1st flag and send you to one different world, while also triggering that world's special triggers [like egypt's sandstorm]. The zombies from before starting the level should hint you [like if you see a bunch of pirate zombies, assume you are taken to pirate ages]. Some later levels would have 2 flags of different portals [like you go to big wave beach and then far future in the same level], while levels have some starter gimmicks by default.
    Then, the boss should be 1 bar for each world [and conveyors keep changing plants]

    Tbh I feel like modern day should have been the first world, rather than the last. Having you fight classic PvZ1 zombies using classic PvZ1 plants, with portals showing up in the latter half as a taste of whats to come. The old time twister idea would have been a much better finale, being all of the worlds literally crashing together. Throw in a new final boss and it would be perfect.
    As for the shadow plants, they definitely were made for another world and slapped onto modern day because it was the last world. As for the shadow gimmick itself, like you said it needed more time to be polished. It had 5 plants, two of which were instants that barely had a shadow boost, the other 2 were also redundant as main attackers (one much better than the other) and the final was just a sunshroom with the gimmick stapled on.
    I feel like Grimrose should've been a chomper variant, Shadow shroom should have just been Gloom Shroom, murkademia nut should been part of the world plants, and there should have been a tile modifier (like Gold Leaf/Tile Turnip) that created an shadow field anywhere.

    Where we get back to the time where we haven’t even met crazy dave yet.
    Basically pvz1 levels but harder and with new types of zombies (not from other worlds)

    Honestly, i would be very intrigued to see you talk about zomboss levels in pvz2. I recently just played pvz2 reflourished and it has helped rekindled my love for the game, but the one thing that i do find bothersome that i still remember from playing the game originally is the zomboss levels.
    I don't mind the existence of boss levels in each world, as they serve to challenge the players. But i always find the zomboss levels to be an annoyance rather than a challenge. As the difficulty fluctuates based on RNG and the world plants you were given (not to mention as the level goes on, the level just devolves into a mindless zombie/plant spam). Take for example, zomboss in pirate seas, they were easy because you have access to coconut cannon and cherry bomb. While zomboss in ice age is a nightmare cause the plants you are given is just meh in general.

    I'm gonna be honest, I first hoped the boss of Modern day was the Giant First Zombie Robot boss of PVZ 1 with bits of underpowered mini boss from other worlds that are controlled by Imps but nope, disappointed a lot of my expectations

    You could have an interesting challenge run since I see a frankly absurd number of plants available in pvz2.
    Can you beat Plants Vs Zombies 2 using each plant ONLY once?
    Rules
    - You can only a plant once on each world. So taking wintermelon for a difficult map means you can't take it for any other maps.
    - The run ends when you beat Modern World finale.
    - The starting world is exempt from this rule
    Optional Rule 1) Depending on number of sun producers in pvz itself, apply that to each world specifically, so only suntoads for medieval or sunflower for caveman, etc.
    Optional Rule 2) If it is possible, do it with a fresh start, with a different limitation being applied only to each world itself, so using peashooters in caveman world only due to a limited quantity of plants.
    - Rules can be modified by the challenger ONLY if the rules as written aren't possible through mechanics, not lack of skill. (if it's literally impossible, it ain't fair or fun, so change it up to actually make it possible while keeping the spirit of the challenge)
    - Have fun and don't stress out over the challenge.

    Something I want to see a mod do is recreate PvZ2 as a less brutal version of Eclise (but still difficult), and include Modern Day as the final world.
    Except it’s not.
    Modern Day would be a fake-out finale, and, once you complete it, time starts to REALLY fall apart, and the Time Twister world opens up. Level layouts could get combined, such as combining the water of Big Wave Beach with the planks of Pirate Seas.

    The concept is incredibly cool on paper, execution though is very meh. Having the main gimmick of the game as the main gimmick of the world is cool, especially the portals which disappeared 20% into the world

    It would have been cool if modern world got progressively darker ending up at night on the last levels including the boss fight which should have been a bit more similar to the PVZ1 boss fight

    We needed them to add night and maybe some frost winds in night and also adding something like planks. Maybe water, Wich will also represent some of big wave beach and it'll make water plants more usable during modern days

    I think Reflourished handles the FINAL BOSS aspect real well with the Post Game Levels and the Zomboss Lawn-o-tron. It was definately a challenge and was what i consider a great psuedo End. I say psuedo end cus theres more to come, and the beauty of Holiday Mashup.

    its odd that modern day night was not a thing. night was a thing in a PV1 so its the easiest world gimmick for modern day to use and it would appear night at the start of the level so its not like the player could never see it coming before selecting plants.
