Thank you for this series of videos mate. I’ll happily take this job on myself now. 😬 I use Fuchs oil though. Oils ain’t oils, it’s the Castrol slogan… over rated but marketed well.
I had to replace the au pump because incorrectly installed torque converter snapped the sun gear chewed the cup & prongs on converter, it also cracked the aluminium sump 😐.
I’ve not long ago found your channel and enjoy watching the work you do. I see you’ve done your fare share of work on barra engines. So I have a question for you. I’ve got a ba Fairmont that is constantly showing the code p0172. I have replaced and checked everything I can possibly think of and wondering if you have any ideas or experience with this? Any help would be great. Cheers
Hey mate will ea sungears and oil pump fit in to a ba box? Is there any disadvantages of doing this? Or is au the better ones to put in? Thanks in advance😊
Nice work mate, Love this series. I have an AU XR8(97LE) BTR that i'm planning to rebuild and use in my 98 XH. I believe I can use a 6 cyl stall converter on it with no issues, is that correct? Also, will i need to swap the looms over due to the XR8 normally running a TCM? Cheers
Im surprised you haven’t adressed the main issue with the BTR when used as a performance box , or harsh enviroment that being " heat reduction" . The standard settings on the S5 plays a huge roll here 1/3 -1/2 turn for mild applications 3/4 -1 turn for race And a very big trans cooler or 2 These boxes 20 years ago were failing in taxi's due to heat from idling in cab ranks . Heat and extra friction from the S5 settings and the shit pump is the main reason these boxes fail , There actually a very good box when done correct . Id never use a BA BF series box .
Electronic adjustment will also achieve this, basically so mininal pressure is bled off. Not really up to that stage however as I still need to get the box in the car before tuning and cooler fitment. Heat is certainly the key factor of the BTR's failures. Clutch and band wear is accelerated and lubricant is less effective. These guys need a big cooler, and even better the older style pump from an EF to AU. EA to ED create unnecessary drag for most applications.

Thank you for using TQ 95! The only stuff that should be used on any BTR.
Should Mobil 5w30 be the only oil used in an LS? It’s written on the cap as factory fill..

Damn 😔
keen to see the eb box done, id like to freshen the one in my NC up
Yeah mate, hopefully I'll get it done soon, need to order a high stall converter and rebuild kit
Any news on the ed box?
@@TheMrkylester101 yeah mate, I'm tearing it down next week!
@@thebarraspecialist sound good 👍 any aftermarket items required to manualize?

Have you looked into modified valve bodies and billet servos? I see DTM sell them as a kit. Keen to see some more videos from you, mate!
I sure have, currently designing some billet parts for the BTR.
Its actually getting very hard to find complete AU transmissions with converter . Theyll end up being $1500 transmissions soon
Can still find heaps of the older boxes over in WA for under $200.
Wtf I just bought two for $100 cash.
One has a torque converter.
How much would it be for an engine rebuilt and sent to the states? Im really hoping to barra swap my s197 v6 in the future. Great videos by the way.
Thanks mate, I can send them through as a package that is disassembled but prepped
Is there a difference between au na and au turbo trans or are they the same?
did the BF gear box have the same issue as the BA ?

if i do the AU pump do i need the AU converter?
will this cure the ba/bf box not going into reverse or taking a long time to go into reverse?
