Chat/Comment Guidelines:
1: Respect each other, do not intentionally cause arguments and diffuse the situation immediately.
2: Please no backseat gaming. If I need help, I will ask the chat for help. A lot of the fun for myself and the viewers is coming up with the strategies on my own and solving problems in my own unique way.
3: Listen to the streamer. If I say stop, I mean stop, and move the discussion on.
4: Please don't reference other creators' in-jokes and running gags on my stream. Just as much as I wouldn't like another creator using my lore, I would find it disrespectful to use other creators' lore.
5: Moderators' and streamer's decisions are final.
The Rules:
1: The timer starts when walking away from Professor Elm after receiving the starter Pokémon.
2: Only the Challenge Pokémon may participate in battle.
3: No items in battle, except Balls from the bag.
4: No evasion-increasing TMs, and no Rest and Sleep Talk TMs until every other option has been exhausted.
5: No intentional uses of glitches or exploits, except the Teleport glitch after the SS Aqua.
6: No Rare Candies until facing Red. Rare Candies will be used in a 3-3-4 pattern.
7: Timer may be paused for breaks in recording, but no inputs may be made when the timer is paused.
8: Save states are permitted in the overworld, but no save states may be used mid-battle.
9: If the challenge Pokémon faints, the previous save state must be reloaded and progress regained.

Smeargle runs are always so cool because everyone runs them a little bit differently. So much customization
I like to think that the entire beginning of the run smergal was just consumed with rage and fury xD fitting for a struggling artist like itself
Clever, the Smeagle on the right's hue change on its tail over the video's runtime wasn't a detail I was gonna overlook. How many other viewers noticed?
You were the first to notice it, as I don't think anyone caught it in the Premiere!
I noticed it and came to see if anyone else did
It's a fun detail
I couldn’t tell if it was changing each time we got a new sketch move (colored by the type we just got) or a slow shift throughout! So cool.
Really appreciate all the planning and work that went into this one! Well done to Smeargle and his HM friends!
I don't think I've extensively planned a route as much as this one before - I think there's still room for improvement, but I'm proud of Smeargle's time!
"We don't have anything super effective against the sneasel".
You had fire punch. I mean, it's not physical, but it's still super effective 😂
The cool thing about Smeargle is indeed how it demands both deep knowledge of the game to be good period, and creativity to determine what's useful. Here you clearly used a more creative approach to the game via using rage, meditate, fire punch, amnesia and reflect from Red's Espeon.
Scott for comparison, used a much more methodical, more consistent and slower approach with peck, HP ice, fury cutter, magnitude, body slam, recover, spore and swords dance, partially because no items means not even pokéballs for him and because he's not doing CPU resets but manual ones, and he doesn't doubt about using rare candies on Red.
Would hurt, but could always teach a useless move like Growl or a buff like Harden to use as a time waster move if you don't want to limit yourself to not using pokeballs in battle
@@NecromancyForKids In this case those moves were meditate and rage. It's the kind of case where each one has the other half of the puzzle to get the perfect Smeargle run.
Crystal Clear: choose smeargle as your starter. Mail attached. "Why would you do this"
Never thought of using a PokeBall in order to move last, I'm slow lol
I went to sleep and mis the middle half of the stream. Hopefully one of these days I can catch a little later stream. Very fun run to watch.

That's nothing. In the manga he used hyper beam and destroyed half of Vermilion City!
The man's unhinged! He needs to be stopped!
Dang, we both purposefully encountered a Dunsparce. Talk about madness!
It's cool you tslk about which pokemon you use for HMs and which ones they use!
One hp and a dream against stellix and jasmine
It was SO lucky!
I'm sure this took a lot of planning, to be able to figure out the best moves you could reliably get.
Awesome Vid. as always. but i wonder how you´d do with wobuffet? :P
Badly. Just plain terribly!
Great video! Smeargle is such a unique run! Some really interesting strategies there :)
squidgy are you single?
I recently did this myself and smacked myself SO hard for not learning amnesia!
It would've made my fight with red a breeze..well done! I've nearly done 100 runs in Gold, but it's nice to see a smaller channel do a similar thing!
I'll have to see some videos of runs I've done and see if I can spot differences, always fun to see!
Kudos for using rage early game, I thought I was the only one thinking of that move, so convenient for a pokemon with good speed! :D
We're once again graced with another banger.
Honestly, I'm just surprised this was possible, let alone getting a solid time.
Fire Punch is super effective against Sneasel
I have a few people go through the videos with me to spot errors like this now, and not a single one of us picked it up! I normally reserve Slot 3 for Status Moves, so I must've subconsciously ignored that move for the Sneasel!
Did you know that if you use mimic to mimic sketch it permanently copy's sketch to the Pokemon? This allows the Pokemon to learn any move!
Are you a Lois Lowry fan Squidgy? Shes written some good stuff
I didn't know about Lois Lowry until today's Premiere, but I'm definitely going to look at some of the things she's written now!
@@Squidgy If you heard of The Giver, she wrote that series
Its doable depending on WHAT moves you give it else by default it sucks.
I like the sutble slow change of smeargle's tail color in the picture on the right as the video goes on.
Love this! ❤😊
Smeargle's one of my all-time favourite challenges, just because of how different each individual run can be!
go lil smeargle! one of my fave pokemon glad it did so well with such limited stats :)
Very cool run! I bet the routing for this one was complex, but a lot of fun nonetheless!
What an artist the creativity the utility the color and moves as well as the emotion truely a work of art (video) great job as always 🎉
It did really well given how pathetic its base stats are
I love your runs but i think theres one that could take it all. Kadabra
I love smeargle! Such a gimmick pokemon.
Skarmory 👉👈🎵🎶
Skarmory's one I'm looking forward to running - I gave it a go a few months ago and we got walled by Lance, so I need to regroup and come up with a better strategy before doing the run!
How often do you accidentally run into either raikou or entei before your mon is strong enough to keep them away with repels?
It happens much less often than I'd expect - I think I've only seen them twice in total in runs
LS Lowry , what an artist. year 7 arts only lesson
I underestimated Smeargle
7:15 was that a Beatles reference?
Great work as always!!! :-) you even make pokemon I hate, very interesting.
I've got a soft spot for Smeargle - he used to help out with egg move breeding back in the old days, and his gimmick is more interesting than a lot of newer gimmick Pokémon!
@@Squidgyoh I will agree with you on this one!! :-)
The best moveset I ever used for Smeargle in Crystal was 1. Spore 2. Mind Reader 3. Guillotine 4. Leech Seed. I had to level up a Paras myself though to get a wild Smeargle to use Sketch and then catch it
Really cool run with lots of neat details. It's such a unique pokemon for these types of runs.
Smeargle was my favourite run to produce. Having to take a deep dive into the inner workings of every trainer to cherrypick the best moves was certainly the most in-depth research I've ever done into a run. I reckon I could get a better time with some more optomised move choices, so this is another redo I'm excited to do!
@@Squidgy I look forward to watching the redo!
I feel like i never naturally encountered Smeargle in gen 2 😅
He was so, so rare! I believe he was a 10% encounter in the hidden part of the Ruins of Alph! Another Gen 2 Pokémon tucked away so nobody could find him!
Did it bother anyone else that he kept Meditate when he learned Swords Dance? 😅
With the way this run panned out, there was no other option but to have both Swords Dance and Meditate on the learnset at the same time - we couldn't directly replace one with the other, so there was some overlap for 10 levels.
@@Squidgy ah yes I see it now. I was thinking why would you just not sketch over the meditate but I just looked and now see that that would’ve been a long time without the attack raising move lol
Love how creative you were with this one! Great work
Cheers, Michael! I wanted to make this run as unique as possible, and I like to think I succeeded
I recently discovered your channel from the Feraligatr run (my favourite Pokémon) and I really enjoy the other videos, this one included. Great video!
Thanks, Nathan! I'm really glad you're enjoying the runs!
Great work, a really fun run 🎉
That was a great run, was surprised at how well smeargle did in the end even though perhaps I shouldn't be with normal hitting almost everything for neutral damage
Smeargle's Normal typing definitely gave him a boost, but having access to almost any move in the game definitely helped the time out!
@@Squidgy helped but your excellent choice in routeing too. I was surprised how easily you were able to get good moves
This run was almost 6 months in the planning phase. I looked at literally every trainer's learnset to try and figure out the best routing, but in hindsight, I think there is still some room for improvement.
I might try replacing Fire Punch with a sleep move for the Steelix, and brute force with HP Ground instead of doing the Fire Punch method
@@Squidgy is there a pokemon with mimic early game
Mimic's the signature move of Sudowoodo in Gen 2, so that'd be the only opportunity to Sketch it
