Chat/Comment Guidelines:

The Rules:
1: The timer starts when walking away from Professor Elm after receiving the starter Pokémon.
2: Only the Challenge Pokémon may participate in battle.
3: No items in battle, except Balls from the bag.
4: No evasion-increasing TMs, and no Rest and Sleep Talk TMs until every other option has been exhausted.
5: No intentional uses of glitches or exploits, except the Teleport glitch after the SS Aqua.
6: No Rare Candies until facing Red. Rare Candies will be used in a 3-3-4 pattern.
7: Timer may be paused for breaks in recording, but no inputs may be made when the timer is paused.
8: Save states are permitted in the overworld, but no save states may be used mid-battle.
9: If the challenge Pokémon faints, the previous save state must be reloaded and progress regained.

Octillery has so much coverage and is a blast to play with
For a pure Water-type Pokémon, Octillery definitely has some of the best type coverage out there - you just have to get to Lv22 first!
I mostly listen and peek, so the rival graphics would go mostly unnoticed by me. You put a lot of effort in already, so i think you could get away without the extra labour
An Ariados run would be fun.
How about a Noctowl run?
The panic shopping was HILARIOUS
I'm going to try and do Ariados at the end of next month, as a lot of people are scared of spiders, so it'll fit in with Halloween.
Noctowl's on the list for early November, but it might get shifted about depending on how other runs go!

So close to getting under the 2 hour mark!! That red fight was intense!!

I didn't want to grind, so I was going to battle Red until I beat him whether he liked it or not!
Normal/Water is in fact perfect neutral coverage, all the way until Generation IV in fact (when the Water/Steel Empoleon was introduced).
I always notice how you're calling your HM Pokémon "HM Friends". I also like your way of showing gratitude towards them when putting them in the PC before the E4. 🙂
I'm excited to see a challenge run with Paras, Psyduck, Abra, Oddish, Bellsprout and Kenya - and Snorlax, although he's not an HM Friend, but he definitely offers his help by giving you his Left-Overs. xD
Octillery is such an underrated, yet cool Pokémon: Lots of coverage and quite an unique look. I hope you had fun doing this challenge! :)
The friends are all going to get their own special runs for milestones! Oddish will be first, as I want to experiment with a different style of video for the split-evolutions!
Octillery needs more love, although I can't stand the Alpha Octillery in Legends Arceus - that thing can get in the bin!
i just now randomly came across this video via youtube recommendations and i just want to say i found it incredibly charming the way you refer to them as “hm friends”; i have been playing through all the games lately and i took to calling them “hm bearers” because “hm slave” seemed too harsh a term for what were essentially the MVPs of the games. gotta show them some respect!
all that aside, i really enjoyed this video! i had no idea octillery was this good; i have basically never engaged with one at all outside of catching one for the dex. maybe i’ll add one to my team at some point :)

They're not HM slaves to me, they're friends. They're just as important as the challenge Pokémon when doing the run. Without them, I'd still be picking away at the tree in Ilex Forest and the timer would still be going!
Octillery's a very, very good Pokémon against Pokémon that are slower than it, and can hold its own against some quicker Pokémon, too. I'd highly recommend using one, it's surprisingly versatile!
It's quite funny, that Octillery can learn flamethrower. Gyarados able to learn I can kinda understand why.
I'd guess Octillery learns Flamethrower because it's another beam-type move, but it's never really fully explained!
I'm not complaining, though, it's nice to ignite some unsuspecting Steel-types!
My favorite Octillery set.
Item: Assault Vest
Ability: Sniper
Moves: Energy Ball, Flamethrower, ice Beam, scald.
I run my Octatittielary with;
Hydro Pump
Spike Cannon
Rock Blast
Bullet Seed

Lol. I know Snyper was the person who suggested the challenge, but ironically it’s also a perfect name for a Pokémon based on fire arms.
Always had an Octillery on my HGSS team, loved his design and how scarce they were in the game. As for rival graphics, I don't think it's all too essential because he's usually such a pushover.
Octillery's great! If we didn't have such a slow point at Bugsy, it would have been in contention for a top 3 position!
I'm definitely gonna come back to Octillery at some point to see if I can beat my last time.
Wait these pokemon are from Johto!?
They're very, very well hidden in Johto, but they are originally Gen 2 - just about!
A smeargal run would be fire
Smeargle would be next to impossible to route, but I really want to do one as a milestone video - it's definitely going to happen, I'm just not sure when!
In a generation that is notorious for bad movesets, wild that Octillery of all pokemon has one of the best. Gonna use him as my surfer in future runs.
I always love Blue's lego gym theme
It's so weird, I don't know why they picked Lego of all things, but I'm all for it!
I should try a solo playthrough of a game from Gen 5 or later. Octillery's hidden ability is Moody, which seems really fun on a slow, mixed attacker with such a diverse movepool.
Moody is such a fun ability, because it means you're never gonna get the same run twice!
Gut instinct says that ORAS would be a good version to use for an Octillery run. You'll resist the Water-types, but you get Charge Beam in Mauville, and Energy Ball in the Safari Zone for dealing super-effective damage against them.
Hell yeah, the tank/artillery octopus! I used Remoraid once in HGSS as my starter and I was very much impressed by the coverage this little fish/cephalopod has
Its coverage is absolutely ridiculous, especially for Gen 2! I couldn't believe just how many options I had for the learnset!
I kinda wish 4x resistances and weakness didn't exist. Like Garados gets bodied by something as trivial as thundershock. Rock pokemon have little special resistance by default and 4x water weakness kills most them.
Rock really got a rough deal by being paired with Ground for so many Gen I and II Pokémon - 4x to Water and 4x to Grass makes them laughable in the early-game.
I really love that you evolve the Pokémon instead of starting with it, your runs and channel are awesome you deserve more subs! Sometimes your music is a touch loud to me but maybe I'm just sensitive lol. Anyways I look forward to watching more from you and I have all your stuff saved on a Playlist of mine for when I fall asleep so hopefully I give you more views!

Unless you found the one trainer in the arse-end of Kanto with Octillery, you probably would have never known about it - even if you spotted Remoraid, there's no way of being able to work out that it evolves into Octillery!

Surf would do more damage against a neutral target than psybeam/aurora beam would on the same target if super-effective btw
I think something clicked towards the end of the run - it's amazing just how absolutely powerful STAB Surf is!
@@Squidgy 142.5 is the number to beat. Psybeam would still be coverage against poison and fighting types that resist surf at least.

I think you should keep the animations you make mostly to the gym leaders and elite 4 and red, maybe if you have a really hard time with a particular rival fight throw some respect and give him a doodle but it gives the important fights an air of exclusivity.

Love octillery and loving these vids! I like to think of them as filling the krabby/kingler role in gen 2- cool water types that maybe didn’t get the love they should. Was there a reason why you weren’t using flamethrower on the venusaur in the Red fight? Especially when he was using sunny day? Thanks Squidgy!

They're like a more balanced Krabby line - underutilised and not that easy to find, but with good moves and worth the effort to catch one.
This run was recorded a couple of weeks ago, so my memory's hazy, but I don't think Flamethrower crossed my mind; I think I just locked in on Ice Beam as the super effective move against Venusaur and it didn't cross my mind to use Venusaur's sun to my advantage.
When I inevitably do a redo of Octillery in a few months, I'll be sure to remember Flamethrower!

I'm building up a website before Christmas to try and give a way to organise all the data for the challenges in as many different ways as possible. I'm probably also going to post some personal thoughts about each of the challenges, too, and how I felt about the results
I'd also like to apologise if I misread the intent of your original message, I hope I'm not being presumptive but I think there's a slight language and tone barrier and your first message felt hostile on the first couple of reads.
I hope you've enjoyed the challenges you've seen so far, and just for you, I'm going to try and fit in an extra video or two in my late December schedule for some of the ones you've been looking forward to.

I think I'll do Slugma, I mean there's barely any difference to its evolved form, so basicaly just should copy that run, so whatever. Don't take extra effort just for me, you already proved very valuable. Darn, you already done one of my pleads for emerald - in the past! You can't do better than that.
I think it was a case of two spectrums colliding!
I'm always happy to do a few extras here and there, especially when it's in a game I enjoy!

4x speed works well for me - 3x is a bit slow for Gen 2, and I think any faster would cause dizziness for me playing, and people watching!

When I was learning the game, I'd toggle between 4x speed and 2x speed depending on what I was doing.
When you do your first few attempts, don't time them - just get a feel for whichever game you're playing, and just see how it goes. I found out that Goldenrod City and Ice Path were the two hardest parts for me to navigate, so I started saving before I got to those parts and repeating them until I memorised everything I needed to do.
My city of Bradenton just south of tampa (Florida, US) is about to get hit by a hurricane, hope i can watch this
I've got a very good friend who lives very near you in Tampa, and I've been keeping a very close eye on what Hurricane Ian's doing - I will keep everything crossed that Hurricane Ian is nowhere near as bad as it's currently forecast to be, but please, please, please stay safe and preserve your batteries for as long as possible in case of emergencies.

That's the best way to be - the forecast models are changing with literally every run, and nobody will know for sure until it makes landfall. With any luck, there'll be more wind shear than is currently forecast and Ian will lose shape and intensity.

Quagsire's coming up very soon - I've got three Pokémon which need to be together, and Quagsire's the Pokémon straight afterwards. If I can get a run completed, it'll be out around October 11th. :)
