"Whitney gives out the Tm for Attract, which I can't learn." You might not be able to, Scott. But I refuse to believe a sexy Sudowoodo like Tree couldn't
A few things : - Using "weaker side" coverage moves can sometimes be a good idea (well not with this 30 base special of course), but a good instance of this is, say, Ambipom against Steelix with Fire Punch. In general, you can roughly evaluate the relative powers of moves using this formula : (base power x stab x effectiveness x your offensive stat)/the opponent's defensive stat It looks convoluted, but if you train enough, it ends up being automatic, you compare the bp x stab x effectiveness of all move available, then compare attack/def vs spattack/spdef to know roughly how much better (or worse) special moves will be compared to physical moves Note that roughly knowing the opponent's defensive stats is more than enough, a +-15% won't change the calculations in a significant way. In practice, experience lets you narrow it down to only two moves most of the time, and when one of your offensive stats is much better than the other (like more than 2x as good), the question of physical/special isn't even worth asking for most opponents (only extreme cases, like Golem, Forretress, Steelix... might Also with experience comes the ability to estimate All of this to say : most important is that you have a good idea of what every pokemon's stats are (roughly), not to "avoid special moves on X mon because they're a physical attacker" or such - With sudowoodo though, it does make sense to avoid using special moves - the only point where it might've been useful is Koga's forretress, and you destroyed it anyway, and mayyybe jasmine's steelix (100/200 vs 30/65 but Fire punch is more powerful than Dig and steelix likes to setup the sun) - Your old videos have become unwatchable to me. The same videos that got me to love your channel now feel kind of bland when compared to the awesomeness that your videos are currently. The jokes, the tone, the gameplay, the editing... You stepped up, big time and it feels weird to see videos from you not so long ago because the quality was not the same. Don't get me wrong : your videos weren't anywhere close to being bad, but now they're awesome. - Dare I suggest a Noctowl playthrough ? I LOVED this guy in my first ever pokemon game (was platinum), and I'm pretty positive it's utterly awful. It's also probably the most forgettable (or forgotten) "generation bird" - probably because it was the weakest one. Even 9 year-old me figured out that a crobat would do much, much better than whatever noctowl was able to.
@@priestesslucy Well, actually low kick is 50 BP in gens 1-2. You can actually notice that at some point he uses it and it does less than dig. Fire punch would have been 100% better against steelix in the end because of how stat exp impacts low base stats more significantly than high base stats, but keeping it... Maybe not as relevant ? Dunno, low kick was useless anyway.
@@thsand5032 yeah someone else pointed that out to me in another comment thread. I knew it was flinch instead of variable damage in Gen 1, didn't realize that carried over to Gen 2.

Silver's last 2 teams give good exp & ev's, speed & special boosts particularly. He's a little tougher than Blue so I kinda feel like he's a fun final match in kanto. time is important but a lot of 2nd gen playthroughs become a level grind before red anyway. So I'd say, if you beat the kanto leaders and want some more EXP before red just rush his last two battles

Sudowoodo is an amazing idea for a Pokemon. I do think it needed to be earlier in the game, or have better stats, either defensively or just more speed, to be more fondly remembered by most. Challenges like these are really good for Pokemon like Sudowoodo, but most players wont have that chance. Its a shame, a rock type mimicking a tree while being afraid of water is a really funny and clever idea. Slower, bulkier Pokemon CAN do fine in a solo playthrough, but the issue with this one is its not both bulky and a hard hitter. There arent too many in gen 1 or 2 that fit that bill, and for gen 3 onwards you have to be mindful of natures and stuff which can undermine that. Still, Im surprised at how well it did, considering the latter half of Johto's gyms have so much that hit it super effectively. I wish you luck on the upcoming challenges!

Its so weird to me how they never considered dropping the second Haunter from Morty's team in favor of a Misdreavus. Like its a new, nice looking ghost type Pokemon. It has a fairly lacking movepool at the level Morty appears at, however both of Morty's Haunter know Mimic, a move they only learn/know if transferred from Gen 1 so obviously cheating the moveset a bit wouldn't really be an issue.

Dude, we love Halloween at our place too! Every year we throw a party where no one shows up in costumes, but we have them go down stairs and change one person at a time, so we can set up the fog machine and music. Sudowoodo worked its way in to my heart when I played through Pokemon Insurgence hard mode. I never intended to train the tree, but with sturdy, counter, sucker punch, and stone edge, it was always able to ko an opposing pokemon in the many boss battles this game had. It became my legendary killer. Groudon, Rayquaza, armored Kyurem, and Primal Giratina were but a few of the pokemon it managed to defeat. It was never my highest leveled pokemon, but it was my secret weapon, able to take on and take out any physical attacker that might give the rest of my team trouble. I may not have originally intended to keep it on my team, but when I realized just how insane this beast is, I never gave it up, and it stayed with me all the way to the end of the game. Even tho I stopped playing after gen 2, the fact that Mimiku is basically in costume strikes me as a great Halloween Pokemon. Maybe Hypno for the whole stealing children lore, too.

*Imagine a Halloween themed Pokemon team with Crobat, Trevenant, Chandelure, Gourgeist, Houndoom, & Ariados (admittedly it wouldn't be the best team, but it would be Halloweeny)*
For a Halloween themed Pokémon for Gen 1 or 2, I have some ideas... Omanyte/Omastar - Cthulhu/Kaiju related Cubone/Marowak - Wearing dead mother's skull only for it to merge with Marowak's head. Mr. Mime - People can be afraid of Mimes and Clowns, plus Clowns have been depicted in horror. Drowzee/Hypno - Pokédex entries as well as some of the stories told about them. Paras/Parasect - The parasitic fungi basically controlling and eventually taking over the insect itself. Gastly/Haunter/Gengar - Self-explanatory. Zubat/Golbat/Crobat - Self-explanatory. Spinarak/Ariados - Self-explanatory. Houndour/Houndoom - Should be obvious. Misdreavus - Obviously scary/creepy. Murkrow - Crow + Witch's Hat I guess.
I'm imagining you are going to have to do at lest 9 playthroughs in total; 1 for each starter initially, followed by 2 efficiency/luck checks afterward each. As for my prediction as to which one is going to succeed, my money is on Blastoise. Yes Venusaur gets a strong early lead, but I doubt it could maintain that momentum especially when you get to mid/late game. Lack of coverage is really going to suck and you will probably have to rely on slower stall tactics like powders and leech seed. Charizard is the most offensive of the starters and can have some decent options, but will flounder at seemingly random points depending on whatever Pokemon you face and will have a devestatingly slow start from the beginning of the game that I doubt it will be able to recover from. Blastoise has a good defensive typing, decent coverage and most importantly will have consistency throughout the run. It will have the same early lead that Venusaur will get out the gate and won't fall prey to bad luck as often as Charizard.
Love seeing that subscriber count go up and up! Interesting run and moveset at the end, too. Given all that, still waiting for Slowbro vs Slowing. Request #13.
Hi Scott!! Looking forward for that one, I'm pretty sure it will be good at the beginning, but might struggle by the end of Johto (Vs Chuck and Claire). We shall see!
7:50 It's doubly weird because Sudowoodo isn't a tree, it's a rock! You can't use scissors on a rock! 14:52 What the heck, Claire?! 16:11 I'd like the extra battles! 18:22 I wonder if you got a high-roll earlier.... 18:52 Only 1 Pumpkaboo. 26:42 Well, it IS pretending to be a tree. Trees don't move much. It probably blinks because everything alive blinks in fiction. Or to get moisture out of its eyes; Sudowoodo hate being wet! Anyway, neat run video! Thanks for uploading!
15:00 - I’ve heard a theory that they were supposed to miss the protagonists at some point. I haven’t seen the movies, so I can’t give more info than that. You’ll have to find the theory yourself. Good luck :3 (Also, hope you’re having a good day, and thank you for making so many great videos for us! I can tell they take a lot of time)
I love the noise Scott makes when he gets hit with something that may knock him out. It’s also the same noise I make when I step in something cold and wet while wearing socks
Hearing that the magical Misdrevus is next episode has made my week. Easily my favorite pokemon but that early game is going to be incredibly painful.. I'm looking forward to it.
I remember getting a Japanese cartridge translated into bad English when I was young and I was able to teach sudowoodo the HM fly - I’ll probably never see something like that ever again 😂
I was the tree in our production of Chicken Little in first grade. I was darn proud of that role, so I can empathize with wanting to be a tree for Halloween. =P
Oh my gosh, you've already done Sudowoodo in Crystal, I literally just commented on your most recent video asking you to do this ;) 😂 Love the content Scott! Been watching for over a year, I always look forward to your videos. I'll hit you up on Patreon I owe you one :)
My guy! Love the vid. Sounds like a good idea for a video🤔 Keep up the grind man. I’ve fallen off the challenge wagon. The effort you put in the videos is unreal.
Low Kick in Gens 1 and 2 is a 50 BP move with a 30% flinch rate, but in Gen 3 onwards, it deals weight-based damage (20-120 BP) but no longer flinches.
I think my favourite Spore creation was a pretend tree. Made a palm tree type thing with flipped around poison spitters for coconuts. I distinctly recall giving it the ability to jump super high
Number of playthroughs for the terrifying three?.. Let's see... 6? I feel like it's more, you're that crazy ^^; Good luck, thank you for rocking the tree costume
Hi Scott! I’ve been watching your videos and I do enjoy watching them while playing Pokémon Red. Also, I noticed during the Jasmine battle, your Sudowoodo still have Low Kick and probably would have be better against the Steelix than using Dig. Also, I’m surprised that you haven’t done a Cubone solo run and would love to see that soon. You’re an awesome guy and keep up the awesome work! PS: Venomoth is a Dragon/Flying
Gen 2 'Mons are the most desperate for new evolutions, and I'd love to see Hisuian evolutions for Ledian, Ariados, Sudowoodo and Sunflora. Ariados' evo can stay the same type, but Ledian's evo can be Bug/Fairy, Sunflora's can be Grass/Fire, and Sudowoodo's can be Rock/Fighting (not Rock/Grass to stick with the theme of a fake tree). My proposed names for these theoretical evos are Silkryptid, Lediornaut, Solpetal and Jeudowoodo
Excuse me; can we comment how freaking good the editing is? I feel mine is just miserable towards this LMAO! Sweet run though, talk about a treat am I right? I was actually getting salty at Whitney due my own Sudowoodo run. For some reason, she kept knocking me out, even when I have the upper twig, she still does it!.. Misdrevus next? O boy, good luck.. the early game mind you, is pretty boring! LMAO!! I wish she learned a good move, just any good move, that snorlax fight end game.. that had me so mad LOL Also, wish I knew Halloween would exist, but it doesn't for us here, it's fun when a country has like, no holidays!
This vid was really good! Its been a min since i caught one less than a week after upload, I've actually been sick with covid and had 0 energy but its good to be back in good health
I would like it if you battle the rival any time you encounter him since fighting The Karate King is out of the way and requires flash, strength, and rock smash. You find him in the back of the cave between Ecruteak and Mahogany. You should have used low kick on Steelix. It's super effective and it does more damage to heavier pokemon. This includes Steelix and Snorlax. If you had used low kick it would have saved time and you may have fainted less. This was an awesome video! The Halloween themed Misdreavus will be amazing to watch! We rarely see this pokemon run. You could name it Banshee instead of ghost, spirit, or sheet for an extra Halloween themed name.
Sudowoodo is one of my all time favorites. I've always wanted to hunt his shiny form... After my swinub hunt maybe :-) Can't wait to see how he performs!
My brother and I loved Sudowoodo growing up and would always put it on our team. It was defensively strong but we never could get the full potential out of it and would replace it eventually.
During the kingdra fight when you ask the audience to pay attention because you suspect we're listening to the video in the background while playing pokemon 😂😂😂 was actually playing crystal myself while watching!
This was a rock solid (see what I did there) run. Even with Sudowoodo's abysmal speed, its raw strength more than makes up for it. Maybe instead of HP flying, HP ghost to really target the hard-hitting fast psychic types. Even though you were worried about fighting types, Sudowoodo's base 100 defense really helps in this aspect. Something for next time!
Catching this Pokémon as a 10year old kid made me feel invincible. I lucked out and never felt the wrath of Whitney’s Milktank until my later play throughs
I never used one before, so it was fun watching you beat the game with a fake tree. I wonder, if a trainer in the Pokemon universe ever dresses it up as a Christmas tree before? Can you imagine Scott fighting with a Christmas light decked out sudowoodo? Now that would be funny. Or want to keep kids away from the gifts until Christmas day? Place them under a sudowoodo Christmas tree.
Low kick is base 50 power in generation 2. It does not do damage based on a Pokemon's weight ;)
It's still a fighting type move and it can cause flinching.

@@nateschendel4585 This wasn't a nuzlocke, just a regular playthrough, and I didn't record it. I've done one recorded nuzlocke on my channel, but it was of pokemon sword, not insurgence.
Ey!!! Those gym leader animations look really cool! It's incredible how you keep improving what seems like already great content. Congrats! :D
I’m here for the Pokémon play throughs. I stay for the bloopers. I’m enjoying marathoning your content.
Your videos are amazing, it always cheers me up when I see a new one. Keep up the good work, Scott!
Even tho I stopped playing after gen 2, the fact that Mimiku is basically in costume strikes me as a great Halloween Pokemon. Maybe Hypno for the whole stealing children lore, too.
I don't think he is doing anything past g3 for Halloween.
Love the vid Scott, I always boxed the weird rock tree Pokémon myself. Also love that I showed up as Nidoking, my favorite Pokémon. Thanks bud!
Joke's on you, I was tabbed in and watching intently while eating cinnamon pancakes when you tried to call me out in gym 8.
Love the gym transition/leader intro pages! Vids keep getting better!
Oh, yes, I always called this one "Sudo aguado" in Spanish. In Spanish, we're used to mispronouncing Pokémon's names. I work as a translator, yet I still do.
21:16
Awww, look at that. The TREE loves you so much that it created the affection bonuses way before Game Freak did. How cute.
Thank you for your videos. They are nice and chill and fun to listen to and watch. I enjoy the efforts you have put forth into making these video's enjoyable. I eagerly await your next video. Your crystal vids have me anticipating you covering Skymory
Thanks Zarthus, I’m really enjoying making them!
7 smokescreens is so funny lmao, makes me think of like shell smashing again and again with a cloyster against a bisharp to outplay sucker punch, except of course claire is only doing it to taunt you
Scott, I’m excited to see this one. Can’t wait for the witty comments you make. The content will be awesome as always.
~ Scott
your videos get better and better with every one that comes out, keep it up :)
Love the gym leader edits! Super cool and would love to see more of those in future videos
*Imagine a Halloween themed Pokemon team with Crobat, Trevenant, Chandelure, Gourgeist, Houndoom, & Ariados (admittedly it wouldn't be the best team, but it would be Halloweeny)*
Halloweeny. I love the English language.
For a Halloween themed Pokémon for Gen 1 or 2, I have some ideas...
Omanyte/Omastar - Cthulhu/Kaiju related
Cubone/Marowak - Wearing dead mother's skull only for it to merge with Marowak's head.
Thank you for doing my Favourite Pokémon today:
*Sudowoodo!* Love your content, hugs n love from Portugal!
Hugs back at you from Canada
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon ✨❤️✨
Good luck :3
(Also, hope you’re having a good day, and thank you for making so many great videos for us! I can tell they take a lot of time)
It’s super cool watching this channel explode right before my eyes
I love the noise Scott makes when he gets hit with something that may knock him out. It’s also the same noise I make when I step in something cold and wet while wearing socks
Hearing that the magical Misdrevus is next episode has made my week. Easily my favorite pokemon but that early game is going to be incredibly painful.. I'm looking forward to it.
I remember getting a Japanese cartridge translated into bad English when I was young and I was able to teach sudowoodo the HM fly - I’ll probably never see something like that ever again 😂
The Elf Monster one? IIRC that's the Vietnamese version.
How they justified Sudowoodo as a mono rock type I will never know. Surely they could have snuck grass typing in, your man is a tree after all!
Isn't Grass a terrible defensive type when paired with Rock, tho?
@@FernandoRafaelNogueiraReis oh for sure, but at the time my 7 year old self couldn’t figure it out 😂
I love your transitions to the big battles!!
More coming soon ;) I’m pretty hyped about them myself
I was the tree in our production of Chicken Little in first grade. I was darn proud of that role, so I can empathize with wanting to be a tree for Halloween. =P
Sudowoodo is neat. I especially like it in later gens with Rock Head Head Smashes and Wood Hammers.
I love the intros you put for major trainer battles.
Great video Scott! Enjoying this series 😁
Oh my gosh, you've already done Sudowoodo in Crystal, I literally just commented on your most recent video asking you to do this ;) 😂
Love the content Scott! Been watching for over a year, I always look forward to your videos. I'll hit you up on Patreon I owe you one :)
Thanks so much Nathan! Glad you found the Sudowoodo video!
I groaned so many times listening to this one.
Fantastic work.
My guy! Love the vid. Sounds like a good idea for a video🤔
Keep up the grind man. I’ve fallen off the challenge wagon. The effort you put in the videos is unreal.
I love how you know I am playing Pokémon in the background! Lol!
That's what I'd do ;)
Love the new gym fight intro clip! Can't wait to see what's next
Edit: wouldn't low kick be better on steelix because of how heavy it is?
Low Kick in Gens 1 and 2 is a 50 BP move with a 30% flinch rate, but in Gen 3 onwards, it deals weight-based damage (20-120 BP) but no longer flinches.
I don't think weight existed in gen 1-2, that's why back then low kick is pretty useless late game
Thanks for clarifying!
Amazing as always! I'm having so much fun watching your content :)
8:11 what an _attractive_ HP stat
I think my favourite Spore creation was a pretend tree. Made a palm tree type thing with flipped around poison spitters for coconuts. I distinctly recall giving it the ability to jump super high
Number of playthroughs for the terrifying three?.. Let's see... 6?
I feel like it's more, you're that crazy ^^;
Good luck, thank you for rocking the tree costume
I think all Ledian really needs is a regional form that swaps it's Attack and Sp.Def
Scott, I’m loving the new gym leader intro edits
Finished all of them for Johto and Kanto. Excited to start showing them off!
LMAO!!
I wish she learned a good move, just any good move, that snorlax fight end game.. that had me so mad LOL
Also, wish I knew Halloween would exist, but it doesn't for us here, it's fun when a country has like, no holidays!
Oooo misdreavius! I always loved her. I look forward to it! :)
Also at least 12 runs for those three in your group starters vid!
This vid was really good! Its been a min since i caught one less than a week after upload, I've actually been sick with covid and had 0 energy but its good to be back in good health
Oh no Mason, that sounds rough. I’m glad to hear that you’re recovering!
I can’t wait to see those amazing arms wrecking things left and right.
Low kick doesn't do more to heavier pokemonin gen 2, that is a gen 3 and later effect ;)
I always loved Sudowoodo. Happy to see him represented
"Lance's not a dragon master, he's a flying master."
YES, FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT
Sudowoodo is one of my all time favorites. I've always wanted to hunt his shiny form... After my swinub hunt maybe :-) Can't wait to see how he performs!
"The Rival sends out Haunter but my dig knocks it out"...I was only listening to the vid for a moment and man, i had to listen twice xD
These are great videos to watch and even better to fall asleep to, I fall asleep to your playlists with my UA-cam premium, hope it helps!
It does help! Glad you’re enjoying the videos and they’re perfect to fall asleep too!
First time catching a premiere! Let's go baby, glad I could experience this with all of yall
My brother and I loved Sudowoodo growing up and would always put it on our team. It was defensively strong but we never could get the full potential out of it and would replace it eventually.
A battle of creatively named pokemon:
Seel vs. Spheal.
but that's the next gen...
Imagine doing the Santa Claus and the Christmas Tree Pokémon before December. What a thought, Scott!
During the kingdra fight when you ask the audience to pay attention because you suspect we're listening to the video in the background while playing pokemon 😂😂😂 was actually playing crystal myself while watching!
I’d guess 30 playthroughs for the gen 1 starter videos. I always look forward to these videos on Sunday :)
The kingdra call out caught me off guard and I wanted to start looking for cameras. Damn man, you FBI?
This was a rock solid (see what I did there) run. Even with Sudowoodo's abysmal speed, its raw strength more than makes up for it. Maybe instead of HP flying, HP ghost to really target the hard-hitting fast psychic types. Even though you were worried about fighting types, Sudowoodo's base 100 defense really helps in this aspect. Something for next time!
Dressing up as a tree would have been the coolest thing in the world. I actually one time dressed as ash Ketchum.
Really fitting for being close to Halloween. With the whole dressed as something else thing works well for Sudowoodo
Am I thinking of the wrong move here, or does Low Kick do more damage to heavier Pokemon? May have been an option for steelix
Only from Gen3. In 1+2 it has 50BP + flinch chance
You are correct, but that wasn't the way it worked in Gen 2. It worked the way you think in later gens.
Crap I messed that up in another comment. _Whups_
Ah I see. Good job steelix wasn’t too much of an issue in this run then 😂
Catching this Pokémon as a 10year old kid made me feel invincible.
I love how you can't punch ghosts but, you can throw rocks at them.
