Yes, it depends on your natural season. I'm a soft autumn and those colors look good on me. Something bright like bright winter is much too intense while on a natural bright winter type they look magnificent. It's all about finding our seasonal color palettes.
For me, I am a deep autumn - all the colors she named when she searched classy are apart of my color palette and are colors that I have worn over the years (pre color analysis) - and was often called plain Jane but now I know different!
Yes I agree with @PAX because classy means you are able to get things tailored to you, aka you are also able to afford clothing only in your natural season and colors that don't clash with you. Classy means you are able to afford clothing that is personalized to you. That is why you don't need distracting embellishments and quirky cuts...you are only showing off the quality of how your items are uniquely yours because you can afford it. You don't have to get creative with styles to hide or show different things...you are elegant and only have items that are perfect.
I have friends who buy at thrift stores for low price but they are able to spot quality made items that look incredible. It’s all in the eye for it. The cut, the fabric, the seams…
It also depends on the thrift store. Thrift stores in London, Paris, Tokyo or other big cities, sure they might have lots of cool stuff. Thrift stores in my ugly small ass town only have clothes you'd be ashamed to be seen wearing in public.

I envy y'all 😔 plus I'm fat so the chance of finding ANYTHING in these "stocks" is very slim

exactly. people are going to like things you dont like. the problem is the people who clearly arent dressing for themselves (The Kardashians for example), they look like a show of "how much money/many logos can i show off today"
For me classy is when you know your family will look in the old album of pictures and think you looked awesome like it happened with my grandma and her pictures from when she was young. I don't think people nowadays will look classy hahaha 😂
I like that you touched on "anti-classy" trends and where they came from. There's some amount of countersignalling too. Ripped jeans used to be thought of as more working class, but now jeans that are "artfully distressed" cost more, so it's associated with wealth. Also there's some amount of, "I'm so rich I don't even have to show off" or otherwise trying to not look nouveau rich.
I wonder whether Kibbe and McJimsey's "classic" derived for "classe" and "classy"... because it really look like the recommandation for Classics, simple cut, not too much fuse, thoughtful colors which don't jump in your face first thing you enter a room. Simple but well crafted jewelry carefully chosen... With Kibbe, the name of the type is actually the recommendation. Classics look good in classic clothes, the recommendation for natural is often natural (materials, hair texture, make up etc), same as romantic.
I’m a Romantic and anything minimalist or simplistic like that makes me look like a trollop. 😂 It makes all the juicy stuff pop out and make me look like a little kid wearing her grandma’s clothes. But my two SC besties look so sexy in the stuff. While the things that suit me makes them feel like Stevie Nicks in the 1970s.
What you said about bright colors is so true. When I didn't know my season (deep winter) I used to wear neutral colors like beige and I looked I'll all the time but didn't know why. Now, I have red and electric blue elegant dresses that I think that suit me much better and I think that I look classy on them.
I was a teenager during the 2000s and it was the absolute worst. I could never find decent garments. I didn't have the same style that I have now, but I have always gravitated towards the same elements (for at least 15 years) even now in my 30s. So looking for pieces that matched my aesthetic back then was nearly impossible.

Classy, like sexy, is more an attitude than something you wear or buy. You can't buy class. It's in the way you carry yourself and the respect you give to others and it's knowing your worth without having to tell anyone your worth. A classy person is generally well put together without being showy (unless it's formal night), not too many logos (definitely not covered in them). They remain calm and composed no matter what's happening. If you see someone yelling at a barista, they aren't a classy person. Both classy and sexy are internal rather than external. A classy woman could be covered in dirt wearing overalls gardening and still be both sexy and classy. If it's not IN you, you don't have it. I see so many young women in their sky high heels hunched over and awkward walking in bodycon dresses with their hair extensions and lip fillers and they couldn't be further from sexy or classy. That isn't what it is. You don't wear it. You ARE it. It's a self knowledge, self acceptance and self awareness. It has nothing to do with money as a poor person can have a boatload of class and sexiness. It's not about designers, but appreciating quality in things and in yourself. It's being the bigger person, the kind person, the respectable person, and the dependable person. It's the best you.
I think classy is just well tailored and nothing over the top. The wealth speaks for itself by being high quality, so there's no need to be ostentatious.
I don’t aim to be classy. I love tackiness. I think visually challenging things are fun. I also love a thrifty look. One can have a lot of fun with a “I found these things from the op shop and I love them.” Loudness and frugality can look very harmonious.
I think too that people can take inexpensive items and make them look classy. I think it's how someone carries themselves as well and their attitude. I do like some classy looks, but to me it's a different way of living or lifestyle. I'm an average person that has to do every day tasks. I'm not going to dress classy for those things, plus I think I look better in relaxed items and love my curly/wavy messy hair 😂 It looks better than when I straighten or blow dry it. I think people need to embrace who they are and not strive for something that's just not them. Be yourself and don't think of life as a competition. ❤

I enjoyed this thoughtful and highly original video very much! Largely because the "upper class" is today comprised mostly of those of great wealth - rather than good pedigree - the classes are increasingly fluid. With wealth we can all move up and, if we lose our wealth, we go down. And it can happen faster than ever before. I feel that as a result we've arrived at a time in which it's far easier to identify that which IS NOT classy, rather than what is. (Rather like the "non-U" words of the 1950's, which immediately identified one's place in society.) I would suggest that in the very near future, plastic surgeries and cosmetic procedures that exaggerate parts of the face or body will be considered an indicator of one's very SELF not being "classy". (Large implants in the breasts, behind, lips and cheeks, for example.) In the near-past such "enhancements" were only available to movie stars, celebrities and the very rich... but now they are available to many. And anything that is easily available to the masses soon ceases to be desirable... and finally becomes "cheap". (For this very reason many once-favoured luxury brands of the wealthy have now lost their cachet.) Coco Chanel was perhaps supreme in her understanding of the nature of style, elegance and of fashion, and she said: “Some people think luxury is the opposite of poverty. It is not. It is the opposite of vulgarity.” So perhaps the lack of any trace of the vulgar or common is what we are perceiving when we consider a person or thing as being "classy"?...
I don't know. Maybe some kind of expensive body modification will become the new trend for the rich and a definite way to divide the classes. I feel we will get more crazy before "natural is the new chic". We simply can't sell "natural" for people you need something to sell to feel vip. Maybe with new technology we will revert age in a celular level and people with 70 years old will literally look 20 forever. This would be expensive as f**k and ageing would become the ultimate sign of not being wealthy.
Very well said, I believe “classy” is when that person doesn’t blend in with the crowd, but in a good way, because they rise above all the trends and just wear what looks good on them and only high-quality. Not wearing the most common clothes like anyone can buy off the rack, but you can tell they are curated and careful about how they present themselves. And they look timeless because of it.

I think ‘frumpy’ outfits are a good example of what's opposite to classy. Of course frumpiness is also due to a person’s demeanour.. however some body types can look frumpy in clothes that other body types can pull off well. That’s just how it is
Before UA-cam you actually went to classes meaning a lesson you signed up for to learn "class and etiquette". You can also get books from the library. I did that too. I went to school with rich kids and they did not dress "flashy or with high brands". OH!!! BTW, there is a men's channel I really enjoy, Gentlemen's Gazette . They talk a lot about men with "class". Many women including me ask if he would do a channel for women on classy dress and style, etc.. Well, he explained why he could not because women have so many styles, fabrics, trends change so fast. I was so disappointed. But we women are all over the place. LOL!
I tried to dress classy and end up looking conservative and "office like" at night clubs and in night life and spooked men A LOT. I'm having a hard time with it. (Edit: I was feeling ugly either anyway)
I can imagine 😆 Some night clubs are pretty classy/expecting expensive clothing, others not so much/more bent toward another style where "classy" might look a bit out of place. Maybe try something simple and clean-cut PAIRED with something sort of flashy? (But not gawdy.) That might help with the office-like aura. Bold jewelry, a little color in your makeup, heels you would certainly NOT see in an office setting ;) Just some examples. The rest of your outfit could stay a little more on the conservative side in it's simplicity and let the accessories do the talking while at the same time it helps the whole look not come across as too loud or cheap 🤷♀️ I guess it would depend on what you pair with what. I think a balance of classy and flashy is great for nightclubs

I think you can have a classy pantsuit + heels on but pair it with a sexy (maybe slinky or shiny or cropped) top and some "clubby" accessories. should be pretty great :) in the end it all depends on what kind of club you are going to. these days there's anything from super high class rich clubs to casual friday night pubs to the seediest trashiest night clubs, you just need to scout out the scene beforehand haha
Try showing off just one asset at a time. Example: legs, collar bones, hips, waist. If you would like to wear a short dress and show your legs make sure the top of the dress is more conservative. You will stay classy but not prudish if you chose carefully.
This was very informative and interesting. Made me realize that I love everything natural from dyes to the shabby look. Have never related to or been interested in upper class and wealth. Fits well with my flamboyant natural body type and essence.
I can’t stand the word classy for it’s overuse, sounding tacky. Ironically, classy is a word used by people without class. Better to use elegant or sophisticated. IMHO

The term ‘nouveau riche’ is a deragatory term used by entitled people to attempt to maintain a particular social order in which they themselves have a vested interest in maintaining. It’s to try keep those who have succeeded through their own merits in their place. There’s nothing to say those who have made their own money through hard work or talent are less ‘classy’ (cheap sounding word if you ask me) than those whose forbears made their money. Personally, I have more admiration for those who’ve done it themselves than those who had it handed to them on a silver platter. And beauty is a beauty does. ‘Classiest’ people are those with good manners who are kind and considerate to others. They may not be beautifully dressed. But real class transcends garb.
right!!!! it doesn't matter what you wear, it matters how you treat those around you. i feel like aly sometimes makes assumptions about people from what she has seen in movies and magazines that might not be the most accurate and it comes off as judgemental. i am not sure if it is a cultural divide but i do not think she is trying to sound that way. some people do not care about what people will think of their style and I think it is important to cater primarily to those who do rather than judge those who do not
When work from office was a thing pre pandemic, I was all about turtle necks, button down shirts, tailored pants, pastels, greys and clothes that are fitting without any slightest distractions like frills or even boxy shapes .But for work from home , I am loving boho style clothes.Long skirts, long dresses , tunics, kurtis,dhoti pants loose tops .instead of boring Pjs and tshirts these are very feminine and comfortable and they do look 'happy,comfortable classy 'for a work from home situation.
When I was young classy meant less than being trendy. Now, the less work, the happier I am & it comes in the form of well tailored clothes that fit nicely. And being that I fluctuate between hot desert & beach - shorts, tanks, and flipflops are a big part of my wardrobe.....but NICE ones. 😉

The thing that changed my life was to get things from the source. On Pinterest, search up things like "1960's Sears catalogue" or "1950s Montgomery Ward catalogue." You will find *authentic* pictures of what people dressed like in that time period/ what was advertised to the avgerage person during that era. Not only do you see the clothes (texture, fit, colurs etc) but you also can see how they did their hair and makeup. Those catalogues are all great because they show that colourful clothes can be extremely classy and eyecatching when done right. *DO NOT* look up "classy outfits" or "old hollywood outfits." *DO NOT* search up "how to be elegant" or "how to be classy" on UA-cam. It cannot be understated that the results you will find are significantly different from what you were initially intending to find because what comes up are pictures from bloggers who post about what THEY *think* is "classy": no colours, all neutrals, etc etc. It's not authentic, it's regurgitated over and over again. Also, it's a one way ticket to look exactly like everyone else because how many other girls do you think are searching up the exact same thing as you? A huge mistake I see people make is they search up "classy work outfits" and they go with the first few things that pop up. This isn't the best because truth be told, people these days really DO NOT know how to dress in terms of fit, colour, hair styling, makeup, etc. Going with what a random trend-following blogger suggests will not give you the same results as taking inspiration from an authentic 1950s catalogue. DIG DEEP and look for AUTHENTICITY when considering class. Class is simply a way of being, not a way of dressing. When you listen to music, you will know this. When you listen to how people speak, you will know this.
yes but also people now aren't worrying what others will think and they wear clothes that make them feel good. it's not always about looking good to other people, but yourself. confidence can outweigh fear of judgement

I think this separation of new vs old money is a way to keep certain people on the outs. It’s not just about style. It’s classism. I’m personally not a fan of big logos or flashy clothing but judging others as less than for dressing differently also leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Agreed. Once the “lower” classes take up something, suddenly the rich want to throw it away, and vice versa if they appropriate something then suddenly it’s all the rage and before it was thrashy (like jeans)

Am glad you mentioned the contributions from different cultures that are "hidden" in plain sight in what we now call modern art. Mostly we think it is European due to lack of history, when in reality many cultures from different parts of the world makeup the modern style that we have but little or no credit goes to them.

Classy is a way of thinking about the world and yourself. If you feel the constant need to change your outer self by following the trends you can never be timeless. It is also a matter of taste.
Classy doesn't mean expensive. Type 1960s London or even 1970s NY or California. Do you see the contrast? In general people were classy compared to now. The clothes are not sloppy the people are put together. People were cognizant that there is a difference in dressing out in public that around the house. Even the medical profession, like nurse wore dresses, hats, nylons and polished shoes. Now they look like they're in pjs and it shows in the sloppy attitude. The hair colors were in general solid, blonde, brunette or red head, not with many tones which can look dirty.
"Classy" is more the preppy look. All things are solid. You don't wear promotional belts or clothes like the nouveau riche. Don't wear anything that shows too much skin. The colors are coordinated, very subtle. You don't wear plastic stuff, but leather, silk, cotton, linen. Nothing should be obtrusive, everything has to be rather subtle. Less is more. And very important: puffed lips and pumped up breasts are not "classy". Being classy also means having character and decency.
What many do not know: The story of how a strong guy came to power over the country describes the emergence of the knighthood (which were often robber barons too in the beginning!). But in the very early times, even before the Middle Ages, the kings were mostly elected by their tribes, only later did the practice emerge that the claim to power is inherited.
I think class has a level of standard and integrity to it. When I see nouveau riche it feels vulgar because while there is a standard to the quality of the items there is something undignified about it. I think Kim Kardashian is a good example.

I love classic, Good fitting tailored clothes that suit my pear shaped body never follow fashions and trends. I stick to what I know that suit me. Never OTT. Less is more ladies.
I dress in a very unusual style, heavily Edwardian-leaning (sans corset because I can live without it, despite appreciating the garment still), like really I'm a elementary school teacher from 1905 who jumped in a time travel machine... And I collect haori, traditional Japanese jackets, because they're beautiful and I can adapt them to the season and my skirts and blouses. Anyway. I look very eccentric, but thanks to the simple and precise 1905 silhouette and decorative haori, I don't look tacky. Quite the contrary in fact, older people love me because I look very elegant, and people in general perceive a small lady with an impeccable, curated appearance, which provide me with lots of positive reactions.

“Classy” seems to be associated with “classic” style which looks so BAD on me. I tend to prefer taste, tasteful, good manners, subdue not scandalous and dignified. Anything that dignifies you (not degrades you) Also, I am a researcher in infectious disease. I can’t use good clothing to work but I also don’t like to look frumpy. It’s really tricky.
I only watched and "liked" this video because you made it, and I always find your stuff interesting. However, I never look good in "classy" stuff. It never fits well, and I find it looks so boring on me. Give me the bright colors! And at least something interesting to wear. I think I'm a Theatrical Romantic in the Kibbe system, perhaps with some ethereal thrown in, that might explain my looks/feelings.
One does not need to go to a very expensive store for decent clothes. Tailoring is not too pricey when you shop in your budget. I resent the "expensive is best" idea. It's all about how you wear and present your makeup and hair, body language, smile, tone of voice, words choices...I am still working on it. Btw, this picture is 10 years old.
Class is something you are, not what you own or how much money you have. Expensive clothes are about the quality of the material and how well it’s made. Usually well made clothing fits! There are rich ppl who are crass w/no manners, no taste,and NO class!
I have bought $20 jeans that were better made than my $1000 jeans 👖🤷♀️ just saying we are all different shapes and sizes and different brands fit better than others and for me a good pair of jeans tailored to fit me right can be cheap but may be better quality for my body shape. Just to be a nerd, it’s not “survival of the strongest” but “survival of the fittest”-that is: the most “fit” or suited for a function. That function could be surviving disease, remembering poisonous plants, or simply being more appealing to a mate. I guess I’m clarifying this because regarding bullies and conquerors as the genetic “best” of us is wrong. They are the minority and fortunately always have been. Cooperation and compassion are the traits that made humanity a successful species, and thank goodness that part has remained dominant enough in our genetic code to perpetuate in spite of the worst of us. That’s something to be proud of. Sooo, that brings us back to you because attractiveness is why we’re here. Class didn’t represent the bloodline of the bullies but (as you note) the system of education, fashion, beauty and behavior they used to separate themselves from everyone else long after the original bully was dust. Not for nothing that one could make a career for themselves and win the admiration and gratitude of thousands just by helping them all look and feel gorgeous 😉. So thanks! I like that you touched on "anti-classy" trends and where they came from. There's some amount of countersignalling too. Ripped jeans used to be thought of as more working class, but now jeans that are "artfully distressed" cost more, so it's associated with wealth. Also there's some amount of, "I'm so rich I don't even have to show off" or otherwise trying to not look nouveau rich.
True, most truly wealthy people will downplay it a bit.

I wonder whether Kibbe and McJimsey's "classic" derived for "classe" and "classy"... because it really look like the recommandation for Classics, simple cut, not too much fuse, thoughtful colors which don't jump in your face first thing you enter a room. Simple but well crafted jewelry carefully chosen... As a Romantic, these always look absolutely dull and boring on me, I definitely need more punch to shine, but on my Classic friends, these always look stunning.

With Kibbe, the name of the type is actually the recommendation. Classics look good in classic clothes, the recommendation for natural is often natural (materials, hair texture, make up etc), same as romantic.
I’m a Romantic and anything minimalist or simplistic like that makes me look like a trollop. 😂 It makes all the juicy stuff pop out and make me look like a little kid wearing her grandma’s clothes. But my two SC besties look so sexy in the stuff. While the things that suit me makes them feel like Stevie Nicks in the 1970s.

What you said about bright colors is so true. When I didn't know my season (deep winter) I used to wear neutral colors like beige and I looked I'll all the time but didn't know why. Now, I have red and electric blue elegant dresses that I think that suit me much better and I think that I look classy on them.
I was a teenager during the 2000s and it was the absolute worst. I could never find decent garments. I didn't have the same style that I have now, but I have always gravitated towards the same elements (for at least 15 years) even now in my 30s. So looking for pieces that matched my aesthetic back then was nearly impossible.
I was just a kid in the early 2000s but ugh the outfits.... not for me.

Classy, like sexy, is more an attitude than something you wear or buy. You can't buy class. It's in the way you carry yourself and the respect you give to others and it's knowing your worth without having to tell anyone your worth. A classy person is generally well put together without being showy (unless it's formal night), not too many logos (definitely not covered in them). They remain calm and composed no matter what's happening. If you see someone yelling at a barista, they aren't a classy person. Both classy and sexy are internal rather than external. A classy woman could be covered in dirt wearing overalls gardening and still be both sexy and classy. If it's not IN you, you don't have it. I see so many young women in their sky high heels hunched over and awkward walking in bodycon dresses with their hair extensions and lip fillers and they couldn't be further from sexy or classy. That isn't what it is. You don't wear it. You ARE it. It's a self knowledge, self acceptance and self awareness. It has nothing to do with money as a poor person can have a boatload of class and sexiness. It's not about designers, but appreciating quality in things and in yourself. It's being the bigger person, the kind person, the respectable person, and the dependable person. It's the best you.
I think classy is just well tailored and nothing over the top. The wealth speaks for itself by being high quality, so there's no need to be ostentatious.

I don’t aim to be classy. I love tackiness. I think visually challenging things are fun. I also love a thrifty look. One can have a lot of fun with a “I found these things from the op shop and I love them.” Loudness and frugality can look very harmonious.

I do like some classy looks, but to me it's a different way of living or lifestyle. I'm an average person that has to do every day tasks. I'm not going to dress classy for those things, plus I think I look better in relaxed items and love my curly/wavy messy hair 😂 It looks better than when I straighten or blow dry it. I think people need to embrace who they are and not strive for something that's just not them. Be yourself and don't think of life as a competition. ❤

Largely because the "upper class" is today comprised mostly of those of great wealth - rather than good pedigree - the classes are increasingly fluid. With wealth we can all move up and, if we lose our wealth, we go down. And it can happen faster than ever before.
I feel that as a result we've arrived at a time in which it's far easier to identify that which IS NOT classy, rather than what is. (Rather like the "non-U" words of the 1950's, which immediately identified one's place in society.)
I would suggest that in the very near future, plastic surgeries and cosmetic procedures that exaggerate parts of the face or body will be considered an indicator of one's very SELF not being "classy". (Large implants in the breasts, behind, lips and cheeks, for example.) In the near-past such "enhancements" were only available to movie stars, celebrities and the very rich... but now they are available to many. And anything that is easily available to the masses soon ceases to be desirable... and finally becomes "cheap". (For this very reason many once-favoured luxury brands of the wealthy have now lost their cachet.)
Coco Chanel was perhaps supreme in her understanding of the nature of style, elegance and of fashion, and she said: “Some people think luxury is the opposite of poverty. It is not. It is the opposite of vulgarity.”
So perhaps the lack of any trace of the vulgar or common is what we are perceiving when we consider a person or thing as being "classy"?...
You're absolutely right about cosmetic surgery, celebrities are already giving it up (Kim Kardashian, for example).
I don't know. Maybe some kind of expensive body modification will become the new trend for the rich and a definite way to divide the classes. I feel we will get more crazy before "natural is the new chic". We simply can't sell "natural" for people you need something to sell to feel vip.
Maybe with new technology we will revert age in a celular level and people with 70 years old will literally look 20 forever. This would be expensive as f**k and ageing would become the ultimate sign of not being wealthy.

Very well said, I believe “classy” is when that person doesn’t blend in with the crowd, but in a good way, because they rise above all the trends and just wear what looks good on them and only high-quality. Not wearing the most common clothes like anyone can buy off the rack, but you can tell they are curated and careful about how they present themselves. And they look timeless because of it.

I think ‘frumpy’ outfits are a good example of what's opposite to classy. Of course frumpiness is also due to a person’s demeanour.. however some body types can look frumpy in clothes that other body types can pull off well. That’s just how it is
Before UA-cam you actually went to classes meaning a lesson you signed up for to learn "class and etiquette". You can also get books from the library. I did that too. I went to school with rich kids and they did not dress "flashy or with high brands". OH!!! BTW, there is a men's channel I really enjoy, Gentlemen's Gazette . They talk a lot about men with "class". Many women including me ask if he would do a channel for women on classy dress and style, etc.. Well, he explained why he could not because women have so many styles, fabrics, trends change so fast. I was so disappointed. But we women are all over the place. LOL!
I tried to dress classy and end up looking conservative and "office like" at night clubs and in night life and spooked men A LOT. I'm having a hard time with it. (Edit: I was feeling ugly either anyway)
I can imagine 😆 Some night clubs are pretty classy/expecting expensive clothing, others not so much/more bent toward another style where "classy" might look a bit out of place. Maybe try something simple and clean-cut PAIRED with something sort of flashy? (But not gawdy.) That might help with the office-like aura. Bold jewelry, a little color in your makeup, heels you would certainly NOT see in an office setting ;) Just some examples. The rest of your outfit could stay a little more on the conservative side in it's simplicity and let the accessories do the talking while at the same time it helps the whole look not come across as too loud or cheap 🤷♀️ I guess it would depend on what you pair with what. I think a balance of classy and flashy is great for nightclubs

in the end it all depends on what kind of club you are going to. these days there's anything from super high class rich clubs to casual friday night pubs to the seediest trashiest night clubs, you just need to scout out the scene beforehand haha
Try showing off just one asset at a time. Example: legs, collar bones, hips, waist. If you would like to wear a short dress and show your legs make sure the top of the dress is more conservative. You will stay classy but not prudish if you chose carefully.

The term ‘nouveau riche’ is a deragatory term used by entitled people to attempt to maintain a particular social order in which they themselves have a vested interest in maintaining. It’s to try keep those who have succeeded through their own merits in their place. There’s nothing to say those who have made their own money through hard work or talent are less ‘classy’ (cheap sounding word if you ask me) than those whose forbears made their money. Personally, I have more admiration for those who’ve done it themselves than those who had it handed to them on a silver platter. And beauty is a beauty does. ‘Classiest’ people are those with good manners who are kind and considerate to others. They may not be beautifully dressed. But real class transcends garb.
right!!!! it doesn't matter what you wear, it matters how you treat those around you. i feel like aly sometimes makes assumptions about people from what she has seen in movies and magazines that might not be the most accurate and it comes off as judgemental. i am not sure if it is a cultural divide but i do not think she is trying to sound that way. some people do not care about what people will think of their style and I think it is important to cater primarily to those who do rather than judge those who do not

When work from office was a thing pre pandemic, I was all about turtle necks, button down shirts, tailored pants, pastels, greys and clothes that are fitting without any slightest distractions like frills or even boxy shapes .But for work from home , I am loving boho style clothes.Long skirts, long dresses , tunics, kurtis,dhoti pants loose tops .instead of boring Pjs and tshirts these are very feminine and comfortable and they do look 'happy,comfortable classy 'for a work from home situation.

The thing that changed my life was to get things from the source. On Pinterest, search up things like "1960's Sears catalogue" or "1950s Montgomery Ward catalogue." You will find *authentic* pictures of what people dressed like in that time period/ what was advertised to the avgerage person during that era. Not only do you see the clothes (texture, fit, colurs etc) but you also can see how they did their hair and makeup. Those catalogues are all great because they show that colourful clothes can be extremely classy and eyecatching when done right. *DO NOT* look up "classy outfits" or "old hollywood outfits." *DO NOT* search up "how to be elegant" or "how to be classy" on UA-cam. It cannot be understated that the results you will find are significantly different from what you were initially intending to find because what comes up are pictures from bloggers who post about what THEY *think* is "classy": no colours, all neutrals, etc etc. It's not authentic, it's regurgitated over and over again. Also, it's a one way ticket to look exactly like everyone else because how many other girls do you think are searching up the exact same thing as you? A huge mistake I see people make is they search up "classy work outfits" and they go with the first few things that pop up. This isn't the best because truth be told, people these days really DO NOT know how to dress in terms of fit, colour, hair styling, makeup, etc. Going with what a random trend-following blogger suggests will not give you the same results as taking inspiration from an authentic 1950s catalogue. DIG DEEP and look for AUTHENTICITY when considering class. Class is simply a way of being, not a way of dressing. When you listen to music, you will know this. When you listen to how people speak, you will know this.

I think this separation of new vs old money is a way to keep certain people on the outs. It’s not just about style. It’s classism. I’m personally not a fan of big logos or flashy clothing but judging others as less than for dressing differently also leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Agreed. Once the “lower” classes take up something, suddenly the rich want to throw it away, and vice versa if they appropriate something then suddenly it’s all the rage and before it was thrashy (like jeans)

Am glad you mentioned the contributions from different cultures that are "hidden" in plain sight in what we now call modern art. Mostly we think it is European due to lack of history, when in reality many cultures from different parts of the world makeup the modern style that we have but little or no credit goes to them.

im a theatrical romantic, fitted and bright and ornate always look classier than anything washed out or plain.
Classy is a way of thinking about the world and yourself. If you feel the constant need to change your outer self by following the trends you can never be timeless. It is also a matter of taste.
Classy doesn't mean expensive. Type 1960s London or even 1970s NY or California. Do you see the contrast? In general people were classy compared to now. The clothes are not sloppy the people are put together. People were cognizant that there is a difference in dressing out in public that around the house. Even the medical profession, like nurse wore dresses, hats, nylons and polished shoes. Now they look like they're in pjs and it shows in the sloppy attitude. The hair colors were in general solid, blonde, brunette or red head, not with many tones which can look dirty.
And they spent far less than nowadays we would to achieve that polished yet simple appearance, money can’t buy you class and distinction !

"Classy" is more the preppy look. All things are solid. You don't wear promotional belts or clothes like the nouveau riche. Don't wear anything that shows too much skin. The colors are coordinated, very subtle. You don't wear plastic stuff, but leather, silk, cotton, linen. Nothing should be obtrusive, everything has to be rather subtle. Less is more.
And very important: puffed lips and pumped up breasts are not "classy". Being classy also means having character and decency.

What many do not know: The story of how a strong guy came to power over the country describes the emergence of the knighthood (which were often robber barons too in the beginning!).
But in the very early times, even before the Middle Ages, the kings were mostly elected by their tribes, only later did the practice emerge that the claim to power is inherited.
I think class has a level of standard and integrity to it. When I see nouveau riche it feels vulgar because while there is a standard to the quality of the items there is something undignified about it. I think Kim Kardashian is a good example.

I love classic, Good fitting tailored clothes that suit my pear shaped body never follow fashions and trends. I stick to what I know that suit me. Never OTT. Less is more ladies.
I dress in a very unusual style, heavily Edwardian-leaning (sans corset because I can live without it, despite appreciating the garment still), like really I'm a elementary school teacher from 1905 who jumped in a time travel machine... And I collect haori, traditional Japanese jackets, because they're beautiful and I can adapt them to the season and my skirts and blouses. Anyway. I look very eccentric, but thanks to the simple and precise 1905 silhouette and decorative haori, I don't look tacky. Quite the contrary in fact, older people love me because I look very elegant, and people in general perceive a small lady with an impeccable, curated appearance, which provide me with lots of positive reactions.

“Classy” seems to be associated with “classic” style which looks so BAD on me. I tend to prefer taste, tasteful, good manners, subdue not scandalous and dignified. Anything that dignifies you (not degrades you)
Also, I am a researcher in infectious disease. I can’t use good clothing to work but I also don’t like to look frumpy. It’s really tricky.

One does not need to go to a very expensive store for decent clothes. Tailoring is not too pricey when you shop in your budget. I resent the "expensive is best" idea. It's all about how you wear and present your makeup and hair, body language, smile, tone of voice, words choices...I am still working on it.

Class is something you are, not what you own or how much money you have. Expensive clothes are about the quality of the material and how well it’s made. Usually well made clothing fits! There are rich ppl who are crass w/no manners, no taste,and NO class!
I have bought $20 jeans that were better made than my $1000 jeans 👖🤷♀️ just saying we are all different shapes and sizes and different brands fit better than others and for me a good pair of jeans tailored to fit me right can be cheap but may be better quality for my body shape. Does that make sense?

Just to be a nerd, it’s not “survival of the strongest” but “survival of the fittest”-that is: the most “fit” or suited for a function. That function could be surviving disease, remembering poisonous plants, or simply being more appealing to a mate. I guess I’m clarifying this because regarding bullies and conquerors as the genetic “best” of us is wrong. They are the minority and fortunately always have been. Cooperation and compassion are the traits that made humanity a successful species, and thank goodness that part has remained dominant enough in our genetic code to perpetuate in spite of the worst of us. That’s something to be proud of. Sooo, that brings us back to you because attractiveness is why we’re here. Class didn’t represent the bloodline of the bullies but (as you note) the system of education, fashion, beauty and behavior they used to separate themselves from everyone else long after the original bully was dust. Not for nothing that one could make a career for themselves and win the admiration and gratitude of thousands just by helping them all look and feel gorgeous 😉. So thanks!
