it’s sad that in our current facetune and surgery obsessed culture, a lot of these natural features are being wiped out as everyone seeks to look the same.
I once met a cosmetic surgeon who told me - you face is probably the least desireable when people are really young but as people age it becomes the most desireable face they want. You have a gold standard face . So I find it odd wheen people that didnt have any cheeck bones or lips have features that were formally ugly or manly
@@MsMrReason I think I know what you mean. Growing up, I got made fun of because of my sharp jawline, high cheekbones, and large eyes. My mom has them & so do my grandmothers on both sides of my family. I’m Hispanic and it’s more common, but in the early 2000’s in the state I grew up in there was hardly any diversity at the time so it was “weird.” It is better now, but at the same time I noticed that the same people contour their faces to resemble the same features they used to mock. So odd to me. I just embraced my natural looks by the end of high school & would even highlight my high cheekbones and large eyes. I’m only in my mid 20’s so it wasn’t that long ago when people were still making fun of women and girls with high cheekbones, sharp jawlines, and large eyes..
1:10 Dramatic 2:37 Natural 4:22 Gamine 6:06 Classic 7:15 Romantic 8:28 Ingenue 10:05 Ethereal I enjoyed your video and the insights you provided this comment is for future reference 😃
Celebrities and models tend to have healthy diets, and time, money and access to fitness.. therefore overweight women are a minority when sourcing photos from that realm.
I know it’s not malicious, but I really REALLY wish people could find words other then “ordinary” and “average” for Natural. It always comes across as if people are saying “among all these specials types, you are the designated not-actually-special.”
@@heyitzsamurai What I find so difficult with the way people talk about Natural essence is that, to me, it sounds so generic. At least with Kibbe you can look at the actual physicality of your features, your proportions and lines. But essence seems to be just "vibes." Dramatic is intense/commanding, classic is elegant, romantic is lush and alluring, gamine is energetic and spunky, and natural is...a human? A relaxed, vaguely athletic looking human??
Honestly this video has convinced me to stop guessing and just get a consultation done. I think it can be rather difficult to see yourself accurately in the way that others do. I tend to see myself in segments but other people just see the whole. Your videos are light hearted and fun so they feel very approachable. Thank you.
I recently had an in-person consult with John Kitchener. My consult included both the PSC System of Color and Essence Harmonies. Mr. Kitchener is a trained artist with a very high level of color acuity, along with the education (and experience) to understand the technicalities of color. Mr. Kitchener is the opposite of a "formulaic" color consult. You are not placed in a "season" like HOC (4 season) or Sci/Art (12 season), etc. Not that there is anything wrong with those systems. But much of the benefit of your consult depends on the natural talent and training of the consultant. And, most people are typically a blend. Personally, I found a great deal of variation in the Sci/Art (12 season) community. (Don't get me started on the 16 season system.) The Essence Harmonies segment of my consult was also very informative. The most significant aspect of Mr. Kitchener's systems is that you are NEVER just one thing. He believes and argues that we are all blends of different essences, much like your personal coloring. This made a great deal of sense to me. I am happy to share more information regarding either of the two consults if anyone is interested.
@@wendyduncan9084 On the color side of the consult, I ended up with a very detailed binder of color samples all in fabric swatches. In a few weeks I will receive a smaller size sample booklet for shopping but, again, all in fabric. Mr. Kitchener explained that there is a significant difference in looking at color samples via fabric swatches versus printed color on paper. It is hard to imagine how many fabric samples Mr. Kitchener has in his drawers. All hand cut by him. In Sci/Art I was first a Soft Autumn, then a True Winter, next a Dark Autumn? and lastly a Soft Summer. Soft Summer was reconfirmed and in the 80s the Color Me Beautiful consultant analyzed me as a Summer. I do have coolness in my undertones, but I am not cold. But, in some colors I can take a bit more warmth (slightly.) This nuance is not available in the formulaic systems. And, in the Essence Consultation, nuance again plays a huge role. I could never figure out what Kibbe I was (either with the 13 class system of the newer 10 class version.) The reason; because I am blended. I am 5'7" and thin but not skinny. I am mostly Classic, but I have a good dose of Romantic (softness) and the same amount of Dramatic (vertical) or Soft Dramatic. I appear taller than I am. I also have a pinch of Natural in me (shoulders) but I would never dress like most Naturals, naturally. If I wear jeans, they will be dark wash, tailored and I will have a very feminine top on (classic and romantic) and beautiful shoes on my feet. The nuances of the blending just made total sense to me. Hope this helps!
@@anyaamasova6607 thank you so much. You seemed to have had a wonderful afternoon learning so many things. I agree about the way light interacts with color on fabric. Its very nuanced.
This makes so much more sense than the Kibbe System. Despite being tall for a woman (which excludes me from a lot of kibbe types), I am commonly complimented along the lines of being “adorable”, pretty, or graceful, which aligns so well between ingénue and ethereal!
That's exactly me lol, I'm 5'11 but everyone says I have a cute face, my eyes are very sympathetic and my lips have a dramatic cupid arc, giving me a very 20's look
Kibbe's system is supposed to help you to understand your lines (bone structure + flesh) in order to find the best fabrics, cuts and shapes for clothes, jewelry, hair and accessories to enhance your natural beauty or to achieve a certain image. Sometimes, the facial features and the body structure are not exactly aligned, and those are the cases where the Kibbe system alone won't be enough to understand that particular beauty, so the concept of Essence will appear. The Essence is related to the "appearance" (yes, because not always what looks soft, tall, or short really are that, our eyes can be tricked by small details that changes our perception) of your shape - mostly your face :)
Personally I like how she specified you don't HAVE to dress according to your essence or anything, because although I know that, I still don't feel like I fit in any of them alone, so it does reassure me when she says that.
Well you did a good job of breaking down the essences, but I don't see myself in any of them. It looks like there are only masculine types or extreme feminine types. I only feel comfortable in clothes that are mildly to moderately feminine, or a mix of masculine and feminine in one outfit. Physically my type is probably a natural, but I look terrible in earth tones. Theories that put women in boxes are only good for entertainment really, and might be helpful some of the time, but must be taken with a huge grain of salt.
Classic may be an option for you though! There’s a lot of balance in classic faces especially if you’re considering Masc/Fem features, for example in Kibbe I’m a dramatic classic and that 100% helps me express my dramatic (masc) essence in a balanced way
@@alextaylor3850 hmm nope, glad you found your style but I feel more like a natural leaning towards gamine. I just don't take all the suggestions too literally as I am probably a mix of types.
@@truffaut650truffaut6 yes that too. I wouldn't call my style tomboy but they missed most of the spectrum or what women can be or how we feel authentic in our clothing choices.
since i was a teenager, I’ve always appreciated styling and how it can play up your sense of self. never have I had the words to explain exactly what you described in this video. I’ve always felt each individual gives off a certain “essence” as you describe and that the same thing doesn’t necessarily look good on everyone but that everyone can find something they look beautiful in. this is so FASCINATING
Just imagined the Types as Movie characters, because it‘s really fascinating how certain types are often chosen for the roles: -Dramatic: Evil Queen/Wizard 🔮🌑 -Gamine: Adventurer 🌲🌋 -Natural: Witch 🚬🧪 -Romantic: Fairy 🌸🦋 -Etheral: Angel🌫🗻 -Classic: Princess 💍👗
I never felt like I fit any of these types, but once I heard about ingenue it all just clicked into place. I’ve naturally been gravitating to this style for years, and now I know why! Thank you!
i'm a pure romantic with romantic essence - thankyou for making me feel better about how i can dress my body now as i have always dressed very masculine - truly life changing advice x
I realize now I also am pure romantic!! I struggled for so long with my feminine side and it really is a process for me to get to the point to embracing it ! Everything makes so much sense here, thank you for this video !!
You don't have to follow your type. I'm a flamboyant gamine, but I wear classic and natural lines. I hate colour blocking, and other FG recommended fashions.
I'm returning to this video after a girl at Bible study last night saw me put up my very long hair into a half-bun loop (samurai style) and immediately exclaimed in excitement that I looked like an elf from Lord of the Rings. I started to reconsider my conclusion of not having an ethereal essence, rewatched this video today, and suddenly realized ethereal describes me in so many ways. I had totally written off ethereal because I didn't want to think "too much of myself" (smh), but I realize now a lot of my features have that elongated S-curve. I definitely have some natural thrown in there, which threw me off the scent for a good while.
Seeing the ethereal essence really helped me place some of my features that I never understood in conjunction with my Kibbe type. Can we see some more with examples with different skin tones?
That's what I was thinking while watching. It's hard to find examples you can resonate with when you're mixed. I'm asian european and I barely shared any of the features of the examples she showed
Okay so, I'm *not* perfect, but I did decide to see if I could find some examples of people I *think* could fall into each. If they're double-listed, then I think they have both. My method was looking at their features and impressions, but also doing it with a sense of "compared to people with these features" vs "compared to white people." I tried to find examples that were East Asian, Indigenous, and Pacific Islander as well as people who were mixed-race Dramatic - Lucy Liu; Quannah Chasinghorse; Maggie Q Gamine - Lucy Liu; Kelly Marie Tran; Auli'i Cravalho Natural - Melissa O'Neil; Naomi Scott; Maggie Q; Chloe Bennet Classic - Constance Wu; Gemma Chan; Naomi Scott; Kelsey Asbille; Romantic - Gemma Chan; Olivia Munn; Ingenue - Lily Gladstone; Sacheen Littlefeather; Lana Condor Angelic/Ethereal - Michelle Yeoh (tbh, to me, she's one of THE best examples for this essence *ever* that I can't even find another example)
As I was watching I was sitting there like “kind of? Definitely not. A little bit? Maybe?” And then got to classic and was like “oh that’s the one.” I still watched through the others and I was right. Classic is definitely my essence and I’m super here for it (My Kibbe body type is flamboyant natural)
Would be super helpful to make part 2 , with practical tips for shopping clothes for every type. How some of the photos are only for evening look and others are only for a walk in the park, or office. Would be super cool to see the different types to translate to different occasions clothing
Tbh in the beginning I thought this is quite bs but then I matched these traits and features to most of the women I know and it made a lot of sense, also I’m pretty sure I’m romantic if this is unbiased of gender ;) Nice video 👍🏻
The women that were examples in the "ingenue" type don't dress like that.. in fact no one would wear children's clothes.. I'm clearly this essence but I didn't understand what should I wear
My face is definitely ingenue. I've always been told I look innocent and cute (even when I'm angry). And at 22 years old I still get mistaken for 17/18 at times. Especially if I'm wearing no or natural makeup. Not sure where my body type fits though as I do have broader hips and shoulders (like an hourglass but without the bigger bust) I like feminine clothes like flowers maxi dresses with fluttery sleeves with a detailed or (soft) colorful patterns or lace trims (mostly the summer). But I also like wearing simple clothes as just jeans and a cardigan. Although those soft colors look great on me like a soft pink and baby blue. So I feel like I definitely have that youthful feminine essence that suites me the best, but never childlike. I don't like the very childlike style and rather go for more simple styles for everyday wear.
I'm a fellow ingenue too! Do you think we suit the natural types of clothing? I don't really like wearing youthful girlish clothes and would rather wear a more timeless, conservative (longer sleeves and everything) clothes but Idk if it will make us looks like we try too hard and didn't match our own preferable style :(
@@kezyuck325 I think that natural clothes (more relaxed/bohemian) can look good as long as you keep your body shape in mind. For example, wearing completely loose fitting garments doesn't suit my body. It just makes me look bigger. So I always make sure there is some more fitted element. So maybe flowy pants with a more fitted top (doesn't mean skin tight) so I don't lose my shape. Or straight jeans with a simple t-shirt (tucked in) looks nice. Basically all the ways to give some waist definition. Maybe also look at how you can make use of lengths. So a high waisted pants/skirt with a shorter or tucked in top. Or a extra long flowy blouse with skinny jeans. Color wise look at what shades might work for you. I am quite pale with neutral to warm tones. So softer shades work better for me then very dramatic ones. Although i can get away with a lot because of my more neutral coloring. I for example love wearing more rust colored shades. I have a beautiful rust colored flowy maxi skirt that looks great on me (as i have those tones in my hair), but i would never go for mustard yellows or olive greens. Those all fit with more bohemian/earthy colors but not all work for me. I think it's really looking at how you can make that style work for your body and coloring. I am soft looking all over. I have no sharpness and I am quite pale (but neutral to warm toned). So fully natural styling doesn't work for me, so I take the elements of that style and make in work for myself. So I think it'd keeping in mind your essence, body type and style and try to combine that. My body type (apart from the softness) doesn't completely fit the ingenue type, so if your body does fit ingenue completely as well it might be harder for me to give you advice.
No offence but you're too young to be typed Everyone thinks they're ingenue at 22 because they look young because they ARE if you look the same aged 32 you might get a better idea of your real type Remember kibbe says its not reliable under age 25
@@kezyuck325 ua-cam.com/users/DearlyBethany this is a youtube channel I really like all about styling tips. Very simply explained and to the point. Also someone who goed for timeless pieces and tends to keep coverage in mind for the people that find ot important
Kitchener essences are beneficial for finding a certain style within the known lines of a person's body type. But what the Kitchener system can't do is successfully categorized the different lines and combinations of lines. Kibbe is definitely dated and has a lot of inconsistencies. But for those who are into a more scientific approach of body typology, I suggest looking into the Dwyn Larson system. She used a very thorough approach to distinguish features, instead of the typical this looks sharp, this looks soft, we don't know what exactly this is so it must be classic, like I see with a lot of mainstream systems. For example a lot of tall sharp people with very youthful, ingenue faces would normally be categorized as dramatic in the Kibbe system and would never look harmonious in purely dramatic styles. But in the Larson system, this person would be a dramatic gamine with an ingenue essense, and their style would need to combine the angular and height of a dramatic with the details of a gamine, especially around the face. We see that the possible combinations of dramatic and gamine are endless. Sarah Jessica Parker for example is also a gamine dramatic (short but sharp angular features) in the Larson system although she looks very different from Sophia Loren, who is the same type (tall with big, bright, youthful features, people tend to think she's a soft dramatic because of her curves but in doing that her amazing gamine facial features get ignored), they just have different combinations of the same two types with differences essenses. Stereotyping does more harm than good for typing the unique combinations of features everyone possesses. Her research is amazing, I highly recommend looking into it.
So everyone gets a bunch of compliments except for the naturals who are just "ordinary"? And of course noone in the comments identifies with being a natural
Great video! Very interesting! I think I have a combination of natural classic ethereal. Would you do a video with combinations of the essences showing examples & outfits that might work?
I fit into the Ingénue description as those are my features. But I dress and gravitate more towards Classic. I feel my personality matches classic because I like the clean and timeless look of it. Plus it’s probably cheaper in the long run because nothing in the Classic wardrobe will go out of fashion compared to Ingenue.
same here. my facial features align most closely to ingenue but my personality leans more into the classic essence, and i also tend to dress like that. honestly, i feel i'll look silly and not get taken seriously if i followed the girlish ingenue style.
I have a romantic body, gamine face, and dramatic essence. Lol! I guess the best way to describe the clothing style I’m naturally drawn to is “vampire queen”? I feel most comfortable wearing womanly/feminine but not very cutesy or glamorous things, more on the dark artistic side. I have an intense, somewhat “masculine” personality but cute youthful face
Wait this actually cleared up all my doubts. I used to dress in an ingenue or gamine sort of way and it would always look weird on me. It didn't quite fit me (personality wise or face wise) despite every website telling me I could rock it. Over the last few months, I have been dressing in a classical/romantic sort of way and I've never looked better. Thank you for this video :)
My kibbe body type is dramatic classic but I definitely wear ingenue clothes. I've always been described as cute more than anything else and people think I'm wayyy younger than I am. I love the playful but girly ingenue clothes and that's just my style. I always wear pastels bcos they look the best on me, lace, bows and silk look pretty good on me too. But I try to follow a classic silhouette, keeping things minimum and a straight shape.
I'm a mix of CLASSIC, GAMINE AND NATURAL. I don't stick to a particular type always, I'm more masculine in a way but 70% classic. I love feminine essence but I never saw "myself" in it, everyone else looks great in it and I admire all the women out there knowing what she needs! ❤️

My body is pure romantic and my face is soft and round, people always think I am 10+ years younger than I am and assume I am innocent or immature, but I have delicate facial features and small eyes that are easily overpowered. I can never figure out essences 😅
I would trust that overall effect you create which is that innocence, you probably have ingenue essence if this is the case, remember its not about having ALL of the features, but enough that it creates the impression :)
As many have suggested, you are ingenue with your light, wide set eyes which stand out, large forehead and overall youthful look. You've got to be honest with yourself and not simple choose what you want to be.
fr ! i see the trend continues in the comments.. i feel like natural had the least flattering description so you don’t see people identifying with it a lot
I also felt like a lot of people are saying they are ingenue just to look the most youthful, because that seems to be what’s starting to trend. As someone actually ingenue (who’s 27 and gets mistaken for 13-15) I can say that the majority of you don’t look like that 🥲 and I’m not sure we’re all of a sudden all these people in the comments are claiming to. I personally see little people in person that look like myself and even online. I’d personally kill to look a little more sharp. I feel I stick out like a sore thumb with my baby face and short height. It seriously embarrassed but I’ve learned to embrace is. It’s just annoying when you finally accept yourself when you’ve got bullied for years for looking a certain way and now everyone wants to look like that/gaslight themselves that they look so
After much debate, I've come to see that I'm ethereal, classic, and romantic in essence. I struggled a lot in the kibbe system because I kept getting SD or DC and neither quite worked. I realized that ethereal is my missing piece. My elongation is far more ethereal than dramatic in nature.
I really am a mix of Classic and Ingenue. I have a small rounded face, but with some more masculinising elements like a sharper jaw line and heavier straight Greek nose. It's reflected in my style, with a greatly practical silhouette based on Edwardian fashion: I dress like that daily, 1900/1910s working style with a blouse and walking skirt, it creates a simple and crisps silhouette in which I tend to mix basic solid tones for the skirt and blouse... And then I put one of my haori, traditional Japanese vests, on top and everything becomes very animated and colourful and full of various seasonal patterns. I also set my hair in an Edwardian fashion but youthful, with volume at the top and the length either set in a bun or in an untied braid for the accidentally messy look that is in fact more elaborate and deliberate than it looks. I'm often told I give the impression of having jumped out of a book or an old picture, and my nickname at work is Mary Poppins. I used to think I was Gamine, and it is a style that suits me because of the mix of Classic and Ingenue, but this is more like a secondary style for me, now that I learned your definitions? Though coincidentally, the working outfit of the average Edwardian lady did use masculine elements to get the crisp silhouette, with added feminine elements on top like the hairdo and the lace inserts in the blouse. I think this classification is more precise than the Kibbe type.
Im kinda a mix of gamine and ingenue but leaning more on the gamine cuz almost all of my casual wear is boyish but also like feminine cute clothes. And my facial features match the gamine more too
So some correlations I’ve seen in this video to the style roots you came up with: Dramatic -> Moon Natural -> Stone/Earth Gamine -> Sun Classic -> Mushroom Romantic -> Fire Ingenue -> Flower Ethereal -> Mountain
@@sarahlelievre6391 I think it's because she recommended simple, minimal, and balanced outfits for classics. The mushroom style root is defined by the rule of thirds (so balanced), simple patterns or jewelry, and classic pieces. I'm sure my correlations aren't perfect but the similarities are interesting to me.
I love this! I am a flamboyant natural, my essences are most likely natural, classic, and romantic. I am still in the process of fully understanding my style roots, I have found out my main two are mushroom and earth. The third one is possibly flower or fire. So yeah, your correlations make a lot of sense!
I totally agree. Combining Ellie's style roots and kichener essences I totaly see that now. I struggled with my kibbe type so using the other two methods I do see myself gravitating towards the ingenue in flower, sun in gamine and natural in earth. However I personally think dramatic would be more liks mountain due to the sharpness and confidence it executes and ethereal to be more moon as its feels celestial and out of the world.
I agree, except for Dramatic and Ethereal. I would say that Dramatics suit best with the peaky sharp mountain lines, and Ethereals suit best with the misterious beyond the earth vibe, but it's a great correlation.
I’m finally beginning to understand typing haha! My body type for sure fits the pure romantic but my face and essence are definitely a mix of ethereal and ingenue based on my features and how people see me! It makes sense because the styles for those types are what I’m most drawn to and what people say I look best in! Thank you so much for this video, it’s super helpful since typing can be confusing💖
I still don't know what I am, lol. People have told me that I can look intimidating from a distance (by just looking at me), but they've also said that I look innocent...In a sense I'm approachable but not approachable...? I like dressing in more laid-back styles, but if I try a dramatic or a Romantic style I will also look good, I think. I look good in red, but softer tones also compliment me...this is confusion! Edit: to clear my confusion, I'd feel to associate with the mix of natural, gamine, Ingenue and classic.
Im sorry but all of those are literally large eyes and tiny nose all the time. It's hard to find which one you are when you don't have any of those features.
It would have been helpful to include more examples of plus size people in this video. Most of the example pictures you used were of straight sized/skinny women which makes it harder for those of us who are bigger to identify what we are. Nice video nonetheless
Am I crazy or is Ellie-Jean the definition of ingenue? Even when the pictures of examples were coming up, it was picture after picture of people who looked like her and the style type reminded me of a lot of what she wears / style. Just my opinion - please ignore if I'm totally off!
For the Kibbe, I always get Dramatic. For Kitchener, I get Ethereal. The most Yin and Yang, haha. I've styled/dressed in these 2 ways my whole life without knowing about these style/essence categories! And they both work on me extremely well, so this was super interesting to learn. Thanks for breaking it down in a way that is easy to understand ❤
Maybe it is just me, but the 'natural' description seemed a lot harsher and more negative than the rest? I am not trying to be critical, just thought it was interesting.
Learning these systems has helped so much 🙌🏻 I always wondered why I avoided prints and graphics (other than simple and subtle plaids) like the plague-turns out I have a classic essence! It’s so interesting how (generally) we naturally gravitate toward the styles that look better on us, and naturally avoid those that don’t. How we feel (and project to others) in different styles is the simplest indicator-we just know when there’s harmony. ✨ But putting a name to our individual patchwork of aesthetics is a game changer!
I mean, its cool to have categories for faces and bodies now, but do women really need another thing to hyper fixate on their appearance even more? Wear what you want! There are no rules they you can’t if you look at certain way. This is coming from someone who apparently has ingeune features/build and aesthetic. I don’t see anything wrong with someone taller and more curvy or a lot more angular wanting to where dainty clothes or even someone more soft wanting to look more fierce. This is nothing towards the creator but I’m dreading tiktok now flooding with comparing and contrasting women and themselves even more. Just because you look a certain way doesn’t mean you have to dress that way.
I like the combination of Kitchener for face and Kibbe for body type. I have kinda different essences between my body structure and face, which has made it difficult to find out my Kibbe type (since the most famous Tests online have questions for your face too, and I always put mostly D and E answers for those). Basically my face and body look like they don't really match? When it comes to Kibbe I think I am a Flamboyant Natural. I'm tall and I have big bones (large shoulders, long wide arms and legs. I am also on the curvier side, with an hourglass figure, so it was difficult in the beginning to distinguish between FN and SD for myself). But my face has only Yin elements in it basically, I have small ears, smallish nose, small mouth with full lips, no defined/strong jaw line, soft/prominent cheeks etc... So if I were to look at my face only, I'd fit the Ingenue or the Classic essences, not the Natural one for example. I have a friend who I believe is a FN like me as well, yet her features also kinda match her body, as she has a Dramatic /Natural essence in her face too. Does anyone else relate to this too? 🤣👌🏻
So she’s made a romantic body + gamine face vid and she called that “goth fairy”. Inspired by that, I tried to think of what the natural body + ingenue face archetype/aesthetic might be, and came up with “the farmer’s daughter”. disregard if you don’t like it!
@@theveryfirstlostgirl I love this! Hahah I have actually been looking more into it, and realised that when it comes to my face, Ingenue isn't one of the essences. I believe my three essences are Classic, Natural, and Romantic.
Hi Ellie Jean, loveee your video’s! My questions: is it possible to have a combination of essences? And do you always have the essence that fits your bodytype? And lastly: what essence is does have linkes to dramatic essence?
According to the kibbe types, I would be a dramatic body type, but it's never matched my face. This video cleared it up for me, thanks so much! FYI, I have a long, elongated face with upwards angles that are not at all bold or dramatic, they're very soft and I get told I look timeless a lot, so I guess I'm an ethereal! I also just realised why long hair suits me, and braids are always my go-to!
You might be a soft dramatic then. I thinf if you are pretty thin, you could still be a soft dramatic taking your face into account. The length does add a yang aspect to your face, even if it is quite soft.
@@wanjahe8749 It's a good idea, but I'm not thin. I have an athletic body type despite being quite tall, and I've never been told I have soft features if that makes sense?
Same here! I found that I have a soft classic body type but my face fits more of the romantic essence than a classic face. My body is well proportioned with some roundness. My face on the other hand I don’t believe is very symmetrical. It fits more with the romantic essence.
People tend to describe my face as “cute pretty adorable cheeky, sad bored depressed confused longing unsatisfied tired distant, warm welcoming plump bright elegant.” It’s funny because they almost contradict themselves which leaves me kinda confused 😂
I'd like to see this video with more examples of people who aren't thin and aren't conventional beauties. There were a few here and there but a lot were model like
Omg are you Ethereal? I only understood it probably when you matched with every ethereal! 😱Could someone be a blend of two? & can you change what you are? I know what I want to be, not sure what I am! 😂
Yet another shallow example of judging human beings and putting them in boxes. Realistically we're never just one thing, we all change throughout our lives.
It’s so interesting to have a word that encapsulates my aesthetic and energy! x I’m absolutely gamine! although saying this, I’m very rounded and have elements of ingenue- but I’m very much a gamine, thank you for creating this video!
I’ve been thinking I’m a Classic essence but what really clicked was when you talked about how they shine in minimal outfits. I had a friend help me clean out my closet recently, and she kept suggesting outfits combos I could try that had a LOT going on. I didn’t have the words to explain why they didn’t appeal to me at all-but when I saw this video, it was like a bell ringing. Now it’s crystal clear. I wear more minimal outfits because I shine in them more. Thank you for that validation! I love how well you explain all these concepts.
This series has been so helpful! I’ve been able to determine that I’m a mix of classic and romantic essences and it has really helped me refine my wardrobe!
I was having a really hard time figuring all this stuff out about myself, but I think my body type and essence are actually two different, which helps a lot, as I always get called things like sweetie, and am always complimented about how young I look, because people are usually surprised by my age. Thankfully though I have found my essence easier then thought, which is kinda funny because it matches one of my style roots as well. Though it was my eye doctor who straight up said I have nice large eyes for contacts.
I know you probably said this but essence does not determine your body type although as someone who is suspicious about being a Soft natural myself ... It is funny how I do love the athletic ware and people would at times tell me I am chill ......
Love this video! Thank you for the content you make. You typed me as soft classic with gamine essence. I would love to see examples of different kibbe types with different essences and the outfits that suit them!
All my life I kept telling people that I hate when something is slouchy on me and I hate really strong colors (I can't stand brown on me and very rarely wear blue or stuff like that, mostly wear black, grey). At the end of the day the only print I can tolerate is stripes and dots. That's all. Anytime I go out in clothes that are considered athleisure or something, I feel like I am wearing pyjamas outside. Can't stand when the wind blows my hair all over, so I tend to keep it in a bun. People said I am so strangely boring in my fashion, I just say I am classic from now on. So basically anytime someone asks me why am I like this, I will just send them this video. :D
This video really helped, I definitely have Romantic essence as opposed to the others I previously was considering. A Soft Dramatic with Romantic essence, interesting
I think a lot of what we wear is an outer display of the state of our souls. If we have low confidence, low energy we will dress differently than if we were feeling our best. I don’t think it shows what your style or essence is. Simply how your soul feels. A person with high confidence and respect for themselves or the world around them isn’t going to wear tracksuit bottoms out.
I guess I'm somewhere in between natural and ethereal. Thank you for explaining so in detail. This is really interesting! More videos with outfit ideas would be great. Do you have Pinterest boards with all the images you gather, that we can follow?
Hello Francesca, thank you I am so glad that you found this helpful! Yes this is my Pinterest, all the Kibbe/essence boards are together: www.pinterest.co.uk/elliejean28/
face shapes have always completely eluded me. I feel like I'm looking at completely different people for most of the examples. I have no idea what my face shape is, I look completely different in photos depending on whether it's front or back camera, whether I'm smiling, and I also look totally different in the mirror. Is anyone else completely lost?
Thank you for the video. I can't help but note that you dont look like a classic. You are such a strong Ingenue! When photo of Amanda Seyfried came up you looked like sisters! Round face, wide set eyes, large forehead, lush lips and light eyes!
idk whether im eugene or a classic.. Im just going to mix between the two styles which I ve already like : girly and elegant sophisticated style and also cottagecore 😅. Im only 22 so I will opt for more girly feminine clothing style with only few elegant pieces but when I enter the working field, I will definitely try dressing more on the elegant ladylike style , what do u think?
I got this kitchener style confused with the vindicta archetypes (would rec looking up, I like the visual representations) to me Michaela coel looks 'dramatic' and I think they style her that way on shows with quite Streetwear type clothes but ethereal seems fitting too
Romantic really spoke to me, I think I identify the most with that one. I love really glamorous looks and I have that kind of soft round face and bigish lips. I'm kind of obsessed with the old Hollywood look. I would dress like that everyday if I felt I had the motivation to keep up with that hair routine. Lol
I think I might be a mix of Classic, Romantic and ingeune. But that's also because I'm still new to this system and I still can't tell where exactly my face would fit in
First time for one of these videos that I felt that it all made sense and everything clicked. Once you started describing gamine essence it legit felt like you were describing me and I loved your video!! So informative yet so reassuring :)

When I see your face I think Ingenue and Ethereal, rather than classic, why is that?
it’s sad that in our current facetune and surgery obsessed culture, a lot of these natural features are being wiped out as everyone seeks to look the same.
I once met a cosmetic surgeon who told me - you face is probably the least desireable when people are really young but as people age it becomes the most desireable face they want. You have a gold standard face . So I find it odd wheen people that didnt have any cheeck bones or lips have features that were formally ugly or manly
i love this comment bc its so comforting for those with ethnic features that arent eurocentric
@@MsMrReason I think I know what you mean.
Growing up, I got made fun of because of my sharp jawline, high cheekbones, and large eyes. My mom has them & so do my grandmothers on both sides of my family. I’m Hispanic and it’s more common, but in the early 2000’s in the state I grew up in there was hardly any diversity at the time so it was “weird.”
It is better now, but at the same time I noticed that the same people contour their faces to resemble the same features they used to mock. So odd to me.
I just embraced my natural looks by the end of high school & would even highlight my high cheekbones and large eyes. I’m only in my mid 20’s so it wasn’t that long ago when people were still making fun of women and girls with high cheekbones, sharp jawlines, and large eyes..

agreed! and it's telling that hardly anyone is identifying themselves as it, like who wants to be ordinary??
Thank you.
That’s lovely to hear, I’m so glad you find my videos fun! ♥️♥️♥️
@@anyaamasova6607 What was the most valuable thing you learned?
I feel that! I’m 5’10 and I identify the most with the ingenue!
Depends, as an athletic girl 6ft, I was always told I was a “big girl” never really associated with anything ethereal or feminine 😅
I definitely relate! I’m 5’9 and if I were short I’d be a textbook romantic, but I love how Ingénue and Ethereal were described! Makes a lot of sense
Personally I like how she specified you don't HAVE to dress according to your essence or anything, because although I know that, I still don't feel like I fit in any of them alone, so it does reassure me when she says that.
This is so great to hear, and it’s so true - it’s just a tool you can use if you want to!
I just don't take all the suggestions too literally as I am probably a mix of types.

and i’m a pure natural with natural essence. now it makes sense why i’ve always felt like myself in looser casual clothes.
Please do this with Asian/Native American features. I am mixed, but it is hard to pick one based off the descriptions and examples given. Thank you!
That's what I was thinking while watching. It's hard to find examples you can resonate with when you're mixed. I'm asian european and I barely shared any of the features of the examples she showed
Half Spanish and half black I can’t tell what I am!
Okay so, I'm *not* perfect, but I did decide to see if I could find some examples of people I *think* could fall into each. If they're double-listed, then I think they have both. My method was looking at their features and impressions, but also doing it with a sense of "compared to people with these features" vs "compared to white people." I tried to find examples that were East Asian, Indigenous, and Pacific Islander as well as people who were mixed-race
Dramatic - Lucy Liu; Quannah Chasinghorse; Maggie Q
Gamine - Lucy Liu; Kelly Marie Tran; Auli'i Cravalho
Natural - Melissa O'Neil; Naomi Scott; Maggie Q; Chloe Bennet
Classic - Constance Wu; Gemma Chan; Naomi Scott; Kelsey Asbille;
Romantic - Gemma Chan; Olivia Munn;
Ingenue - Lily Gladstone; Sacheen Littlefeather; Lana Condor
Angelic/Ethereal - Michelle Yeoh (tbh, to me, she's one of THE best examples for this essence *ever* that I can't even find another example)
As I was watching I was sitting there like “kind of? Definitely not. A little bit? Maybe?” And then got to classic and was like “oh that’s the one.” I still watched through the others and I was right. Classic is definitely my essence and I’m super here for it
(My Kibbe body type is flamboyant natural)
Would be super helpful to make part 2 , with practical tips for shopping clothes for every type. How some of the photos are only for evening look and others are only for a walk in the park, or office. Would be super cool to see the different types to translate to different occasions clothing
Tbh in the beginning I thought this is quite bs but then I matched these traits and features to most of the women I know and it made a lot of sense, also I’m pretty sure I’m romantic if this is unbiased of gender ;)
Nice video 👍🏻
Honestly, naturals are so slept on. It feels like everyone just describes us as plain and basic
the way i literally can never fit myself into a single category is infuriating at this point
I don't like the very childlike style and rather go for more simple styles for everyday wear.
looking 17 at 22 is pretty normal
No offence but you're too young to be typed
Everyone thinks they're ingenue at 22 because they look young because they ARE
if you look the same aged 32 you might get a better idea of your real type
Remember kibbe says its not reliable under age 25
Guys I feel like I don't fit in any of these🤷🏽♀️

I fit into the Ingénue description as those are my features. But I dress and gravitate more towards Classic. I feel my personality matches classic because I like the clean and timeless look of it. Plus it’s probably cheaper in the long run because nothing in the Classic wardrobe will go out of fashion compared to Ingenue.
Yess, ingenue and classic does look a bit similar interms of face features
same here. my facial features align most closely to ingenue but my personality leans more into the classic essence, and i also tend to dress like that. honestly, i feel i'll look silly and not get taken seriously if i followed the girlish ingenue style.
I’m opposite of you! I fit the classic description, but look best in ingenue styling!
I'd say Audrey Hepburn is where those two meet, fashion-wise.
We're always a mix of different essences too, rarely just one. It is quite common to be a mix of 3-4 essences!
Love it! Embrace it 😘
Wait this actually cleared up all my doubts.

Is masculinising a word
I found out a Greek nose doesnt make a lady look masculine , but it symbolizes yang yes.
Tolerance and artistic way
It's the shape with most symmetry so like In the statues it makes you look very timeless classic. No worries. It's even cute on ladies so there.
Im kinda a mix of gamine and ingenue but leaning more on the gamine cuz almost all of my casual wear is boyish but also like feminine cute clothes. And my facial features match the gamine more too
same here!
So some correlations I’ve seen in this video to the style roots you came up with:
Dramatic -> Moon
Natural -> Stone/Earth
Gamine -> Sun
Classic -> Mushroom
Romantic -> Fire
Ingenue -> Flower
Ethereal -> Mountain
Curious about your argument for Classic -> mushroom! Because they’re like a 3rd different thing that’s neither yin nor yang?
Aishwarya Rai is the most beautiful of them all! 💗
Romantic or Ingenue are the only ones that seem to fit, I think
Hahah
I have actually been looking more into it, and realised that when it comes to my face, Ingenue isn't one of the essences. I believe my three essences are Classic, Natural, and Romantic.
The way she described “soft natural “ makes me feel bad.. “girl next door” “asymmetrical features” “average girl”
I’m a natural… it’s kinda depressing to hear myself described as assymtrical and ordinary…. I’m mid, just mid 😂😢
Hi Ellie Jean, loveee your video’s! My questions: is it possible to have a combination of essences? And do you always have the essence that fits your bodytype? And lastly: what essence is does have linkes to dramatic essence?
Yes most people have 1-3 essences. You are likely to have your essence connect to your body type but it might not!
@@elliejeanroyden it seems like you’re an ingenue, cause you have childlike qualities and you’re face is very soft
@@tatianasadykova2312 I would say ethereal, because her face is not round, it's oval
@@rubydoo3307 I think of the natural types as being the more athletic type bodies.
Same here! I found that I have a soft classic body type but my face fits more of the romantic essence than a classic face. My body is well proportioned with some roundness. My face on the other hand I don’t believe is very symmetrical. It fits more with the romantic essence.
Same here. A dramatic body type but with ethereal essence. I have some long subteley curved lines in body together with the length and sharpness 🤷♀️
This is so interesting. I would say my fave sounds more Ingenue but my body is definitely more romantic and I feel most myself dressing romantic.
People tend to describe my face as “cute pretty adorable cheeky, sad bored depressed confused longing unsatisfied tired distant, warm welcoming plump bright elegant.” It’s funny because they almost contradict themselves which leaves me kinda confused 😂
I'm a Flamboyant Gamine with Dramatic & Gamine essences! I'm so glad I'm already dressing in a flattering way to my body type. This is really cool!
That's so great! Thank you :)
I think I have a natural essence with sun and earth roots! This is actually pretty cool 😄
You have such a beautiful way of describing each of the types! So happy I found your channel ❤️
I feel like none of these are made to include women with big noses.
I hate how they just throw all the people with less ideal features into natural and tell them to wear sweatpants and sporty clothes
Yeah, “close set eyes” are apparently the most unideal feature on here 😅
I’ve been thinking I’m a Classic essence but what really clicked was when you talked about how they shine in minimal outfits.
I found out I'm ethereal! I've been called ethereal or "mysterious looking" before so it makes sense.
i'm pretty sure i'm a soft classic with an ingenue essence, everyone says i look younger and that i'm pretty in an adorable way
This series has been so helpful! I’ve been able to determine that I’m a mix of classic and romantic essences and it has really helped me refine my wardrobe!
Average, ordinary and asymmetrical? I hate being a natural…
ik the description was not flattering 😅
Thank you so much for your continued support!
I think I‘m a mix of Gamine, Classic and Ingenue but it’s sooo hard to deside such things about yourself, by yourself in my opinion 😅
Uma Thurman appeared twice: 1 in the Dramatic category and 1 in the Ethereal category. Just so you're aware.
I identified very much with classic, but also dramatic and romantic. Interesting!
I have been following Dressing Your Truth as a 1/4 in that system. I feel like in this one, I am ingenue with a secondary classic. Great video!
@@elliejeanroyden amazing, thanks! Just followed you ☺️
This was super vague..I have a long nose full lips soft contrast in colouring curved cheeks hooded eyes...no idea which face type that gives me
It didn’t take me long to figure out my kibbe type but I can’t figure out my essence at all. 😭
I think we are so much more connected to our facial features that it's even harder!
who else is jealous of ethereals? lol
My essence is just pure ugly&poor
I’ve been told enough by others I have an ‘ethereal’ or ‘romantic’ vibe about my face to come to the conclusion I’m a hybrid of the two haha
I realized I'm a mix of classic and romantic, you described it in such a clarifying way. Thank u, this was very useful.
face shapes have always completely eluded me.
I have no idea what style I fit. I never paid much attention to my facial features in such an intimate detail before. So it would be nice to know.
Aurora is one of the best examples for Ethereal. So accurate!🤍
@InÊs CaStRo yeah I think she’s like a mix of both!
@InÊs CaStRo she’s definitely more ethereal. Watch it again
@InÊs CaStRo she's cute because of her personality not her face features
This is so helpful as I’ve been trying to decide which flavour of lesbian I look best dressed as.
I do not feel identified with any category, but it is surely entertaining ❤
As you shouldn’t be ❤ (I mean this genuinely, incase it may sound sarcastic)
