  • Quick video tutorial on creating a paint effect of paint discolored by rust over time, fitting for post apocalyptic style costume, armor and props, Fallout cosplay and stuff like that. This effect can be made even more realistic with applied rust along the painted edges as well but I will make a longer, more in depth video about this technique as well and that one will cover it properly :) Buuut if you just want a quick how-to in less than five minutes, then this is my crappy cell phone footage made into a video just for you! :)
    - Mustard used is regular mild mustard - and YES, almost any medium with same texture and properties will work as masking fx mayo, toothpaste and so on ;)
    - Yes, I am using an old sock as a rag
    - Spray paint used is Montana - MTN 94, Java green
    - Acrylics used is Liquitex heavy body acrylics - burnt umber

    I painted sets in Hollyw for many years so honestly I know what I'm talking about. Your final product is one of the best I've seen online. Your procedure was pretty simple and looks better than people who performed a bunch of time consuming tricks. We used wallpaper paste rather than mustard but same effect keep up the good work

    I usually frown on faux finishes, opting to go the extra long way around to obtain the real thing instead. But in some circumstances that can be just about impossible.
    The results for this example are very believable, I'm impressed.

      Hi! I'm glad you loved it! This technique can be used on basically anything as long as it's not too porous and can handle being rinsed off with water. So as long as it's treated, primed or painted to start with there should be no issues with wood. Hope that helps! 😊

      It would look amazing on a Vespa for sure! imagine this, 1. polish the sheet and leave it without paint, 2. prime the sheet with burt umber color or oxide color, 3. let dry, 4. place the moztaza, 5. paint the color you want the sheet, 6. let dry and remove the moztaza, 7. apply transparent bilayer and voila, a 1949 chevrolet pickup will look very good ... your proposal is super nice.

      Yes, it's the original paint sanded down as much as possible, originally I was going to strip it but liked the patchy look and decided to keep it since I'm going for a postapocalyptic look anyway 😁 but you can experiment with different looks like bare metal, rusted metal, layers of older paint and so on. • @bloodshotbelle
      @bloodshotbelle  3 роки тому +2

      I guess that depends on what you mean by patina, are you thinking like using a corrosion activator instead of paint? Because I haven't tried that but now I have to 😁 otherwise it can definitely be used to create a patina effect of you choose your colors wisely and add extra distressing effects.

    Can I use mayo, I dont really like mustard?

    • @bloodshotbelle
      @bloodshotbelle  2 роки тому +1

      I guess that depends on whether you are planning to gently lick it off instead of cleaning up the mustard with water and a rag as recommended. To be honest I don't think mayo covered in paint tastes that much better than mustard but that is just a qualified guess as I have not tried either myself.
      I also cannot recommend stripping away any type of masking by licking it as it is a inferior method both in regards of the time efficiency and causing physical strain on the body.

    How long do you wait for the paint to dry before you start wiping it off?

    • @bloodshotbelle
      @bloodshotbelle  2 роки тому

      Depends on the paint, the one I'm using in the video is a really quickdrying one that dries in an hour or two but basically just dry enough to not get rubbed off but not the full drying time. Hope that helps, just lwt me know if you want me to elaborate further 😁

      I don't know, haven't tried 😁 it is a bit more watery consistency so it might bleed more but worth a go!
