- Always be cautious mixing household chemicals!
In this episode we use common household cleaners and chemicals (salt, vinegar, hydrogen peroxide and cloudy ammonia) to rust a rear fender within 24 hours for the Yamaha XV250 Virago V-star or Route 66.

the best final result i found on UA-cam ⚡⚡⚡
Thanks
Hey, the fender looks awesome. You are the one that got me fired up to get a bobber to work on and run around town on.
faith biker thanks for the kind words i was happy with how it came out. Im having so much fun with this little bike!
Once you started pouring in on it was surprising how quick it changed. Brilliant.
Jay Sinfield thanks jay i was really impressed with how this worked it was hard to show on camera but it is well textured and 3D it looks real imo rather than fauxtina painted on. Couldnt be happier! 😁 thanks again mate!
The end result is awesome!
I was going to paint on a metal reactive paint ($$) but have changed my mind now. Thanks!
It sat in the shed for a while and ended up on this bike! instagram.com/p/CcmcoJqB-1_/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Looks great imo! Cheers mate
Well done.
I think your prize winning lawn might have suffered hahahah. Great job!
OldManTony haha i hate lawn mowing so hopefully it does kill it off 😉
Niceone man. Liked how you stepped back when it started smoking, lol.
Tcrs fella ✊
+Doticaster haha yup didnt want it to blow up or ignite or something!! 😜
Nice work.
+02bigkev thanks mate was pretty stoked with it. It will come into play a little later in the project!! 😁
Ohhhhh A.C.I.D.!! 🤦♂️ ... about 3 days ago a watched this, got to the “you need acid” part, took “acid” and ended up in the desert for 3 days!!! Dude, the desert? I live in Massachusetts!! And did anyone “see the size of that chicken?”..... so safe to say, make sure you understand what one means before you take “acid!”
Seriously though, that came out awesome!! I love the rustic look as I’ve built a small biz based on the “look.” Awesomeness dude!! That bike is gonna be killer!! ✌️
Ridin' Country 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 that so funny. Im pmsl! Sounds like a good trip!!! Im scared to ask about the chicken!!! 🤔🤔🤔 I love your stuff you are a very tallented dude. Wonder what would happen if that talent was unleashed on a bike!! There is a little more of that look to come! 😉
Lol, man I miss the 90’s! 😉
Thanks for the kind words man!! It’s funny, with wood it’s like any tool or technique I use, they become an extension of me. But with anything nuts and bolts I screw up majorly!!! Weird, wish I was good at mechanics because I would love to be a bike tech. Love to work and on bikes but for whatever reason, man I screw things up!! Lol!! 🤦♂️
Ridin' Country i find that hard to believe, ive seen you and i think your daughter doing an oil change on Rubes and everything going a.ok! I wish i was more confident on the engine and breaking the cases. Mrs and I were having the be cool to be a tech conversation tonight actually!
When in doubt, just pour everything on it lol. A nice Matt clear will seal the deal!
vac0002 sounds like a metaphore for life!!! Just got a couple of things planned before i clear coat it!! 😉
Would this work on stainless steel or chrome as well? I have an old pre war schwinn that was left outside for dead that I rebuilt and got it riding smoothly and its missing bicycle fenders and your patina would be perfect for the fenders
Hey man, just wondering if it is necessary to get the pink paint off my fender before doing this...and will it work on the fueltank aswell you think??
Yes you will need to be down to bare metal. It would work on a fuel tank.
I'm always trying to find a way to get rust off 🤔especially the header pipes 😱
+lazy boy Rider haha true but a little rust can look hell cool! 😜
I want to try in my gas tank scrambler...😎🤘alltry
I have several bikes with various patina, it always looks great on the tank
Did you clear coat it? If so so how and do you have a video/photo of it? The patina looks awesome
Yes clear coated it. Just 3 coats Acrylic from a can ua-cam.com/video/jFGFqvH6_cI/v-deo.html its on this bike
best rusty paint.. spray some top coat and itll be fantastic
Linseed and turps 50/50 works really well mate! Last better than single stage clear. A 2k clear would work well! Cheers
@@iRidetas thanks for the additional info..more power
Looks sick man, got a question though - reckon the rust ever stop? I want to patina my fuel tank but I'm worried that even after an oil/clearcoat, the corrosion will continue over time until it goes all the way through. As far as I'm aware, fuel tanks work best without holes
I never ended up using it and its still siting in the shed, rust never progressed anymore after wash off. Didnt even cleat coat so id say all good man
I did this same thing to my 76 Triumph and once I put the clear coat on it stopped the process.
Water and baking soda will neutralize the reaction, pretty much stop the rusting inside the metal, bathe it in that then clear it, or use transmission oil or boiled linseed oil instead of a clear coat
Hey, like I told you I am in the market for a bobber. I am keeping my 2014 Harley Fat Bob but just wanted to have a bobber to ride around town. I found a 2000 Yamaha that they turned into a bobber it has 20k miles. I think I can get it for 2k with tax and license included in that number. What do you think?
faith biker what model is it mate but in saying that i have had nothing but success with any yamaha cruiser ive had id say if it feels right do it mate you wont regret it! 😁
how to kill the lawn haha :D .. good one will you clear it now or leave it bare ?
Very good tip.
Hug LIKE.
+MOTO PT2 thanks mate! 😁
The recipe I use that works really well is, 2oz salt, 2oz vinager, And 15-20oz hydrogen peroxide
How long does it normally take? And how many coats of it did you have to put on?
Overnight, put a couple of coats of the chemicals on it! Its quick
Nice, turned out really well mate 👌
By the way are you from Tasmania brother? I'm a Launceston based fella working on a Bobber build myself 👌✌️
Thanks mate, yes sheffield! 👍👍
What did you end up sealing it with and did it last
Acrylic clear and yes for sure it lasted!
@@iRidetas geat job 👍👍 for how long do you think it will last after applying the clear coat ?! could it last for years and years ?? thanks
Yes mate absolutely, the clear stops it from continuing to rust and in theory holds it there indefinately
what percentage % use hydrogen peroxide for it?
What ever you can get mate
What is the process of starting?
hell me TT
Panuwat MC whole videos is about the process mate!!
do you have the ratio of chemicals by chance?
Just threw it on tbo!! Cheers
