  • In this video, I look at the CarlinKit CPC200-CCPA Dongle for Android Headunits running Android OS 4.4+. You can buy this adapter for $65.99 from Amazon US → amzn.to/38QeNeg (use code: CCPA0528 for 10% off) or for £65.99 from Amazon UK → amzn.to/3MtqSUx or for €65.99 from Amazon DE → amzn.to/3xceG5U.
    Read my full review here → www.carplaylife.com/video/wir...
    If you have an Android headunit running Android OS 4.4 or higher, this dongle simply inserts into its USB port and with the built in AutoKit app installed, it will enable both wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and wired and wireless Android Auto to your Android head unit.
    The dongle comes with its own application installer that’s built into the dongles file system. You simply plug the dongle into the headunit’s USB port and lunch your favourite file manager app. Once the files on the USB dongle has been detected you simply tap on the app launcher to install the connecting AutoKit app onto your Android headunit. The manual also has some alternative methods to get this app installed on your system, but I found the installer was the fastest and easiest way.
    With the dongle already plugged into the USB port, I launched the installed AutoKit app and the software began to detect the dongle. From here, you can connect by wire or wirelessly to your devices, but first, I jumped into the app’s own settings menu to see what else this dongle can do.
    The settings menu is quite feature-rich, with lots of options and settings to tailor your experience. Such as altering resolution output and frame rate, toggle driving position, change the Wi-Fi band, audio channels, to switching the microphone source and charging modes.
    Connecting your iPhone for Wireless Apple CarPlay is as simple as pairing your iPhone to the dongle’s Bluetooth ID, that’s labelled on the top left of the dongle’s Home Screen. Once paired you’ll be asked to enable CarPlay and your iPhone will soon connect and begin to share CarPlay wirelessly to your Android headunit display.
    From here I found wireless CarPlay to perform well, with the usual wireless audio delay traits in music playback, navigation and calling. Overall, Apple CarPlay looked and worked great on my Dasaita 10” display. Tapping the assigned home button would take you out of the app and back to your Android system’s home screen. Microphone support sounds good too.
    For wireless Android Auto, the method is just the same, by pairing your Android device to the dongle over Bluetooth, Android Auto will soon pop up in a few seconds. From here everything ran great with all my Android Auto apps running as intended, wirelessly and responsive.
    It’s a great way to breathe new life into your Android headunit, if it doesn’t already come with either wired and wireless CarPlay or Android Auto. Even if your headunit supports wired CarPlay or Android Auto, this dongle will still operate alongside it to offer its wireless capabilities. Your Android headunit doesn’t need to have CarPlay or Android Auto enabled on it, it is all handled through this dongle hardware anditss software, that you’ll need to install onto it. So make sure you are able to install Android apps onto it before you purchase this dongle, if you can it’s as simple as plug and play, and you can have this great performing dongle add a wireless and wired connection from your Android or iPhone to your Android headunit display.

    I just watched this video and it answered alot of my questions. I think whats confusing is what carlink to use. In my case, i need a device that converts my android aftermarket radio to wireless Android auto. The other carlink devices are for those that have an existing wired android auto and carplay already built in to the infotainment system. This a great review. I've got a question, I've been using this dongle with a Chinese Android head unit, works fine wirelessly and all, however, every now & then the head unit would crash / restart, some crashes can be minutes apart. That only happens when the dongle is connected, regardless if I am running the AutoKit app or not.
    Not sure if it's a power management issue, software issue ... heard somewhere that it might be that the dongle is overheating? Let me know if you have an idea.

    • @CarPlayLife
      @CarPlayLife  Рік тому +1

      It could be power issue. If it’s doing it with regardless of being used then it doesn’t like the adapter being plugged in and I can only think it’s power or it trying to communicate with the system and the system is rejecting it. Very odd
      Maybe see if there is an update for the system you can apply and also for the adapter/software

      This dongle is for android OS headunits. Not android auto only headunits. If your car doesn’t have CarPlay but only android auto. I’ve only used two dongles for this. The MStick ua-cam.com/video/J7iyIYvbIUo/v-deo.html there is one other called CarPC but that didn’t work as well. Both are AI Boxes for Android Auto head units. Mirroring from phone hasn’t been a great experience in any dongle though. There’s always auto lag. But the MStick has some software to counter this.

      I’m not sure what else I can recommend. You do connect to BT first on your iPhone. So I assume the BT profile for the adapter isn’t coming up either? This sounds more a hardware fault. But before you assume that. Maybe try a different iPhone and see if you run into the same issues. If you do it’s the adapter. If you don’t find the same issue then it’s your iPhone.

      So this adapter is specifically for Android OS headunits. I don’t think the Kenwood has an android OS.
      Send that back can get a wireless adapter for the device you want to connect to it.
      If it’s just iPhone then get a CarPlay wireless adapter (my top 5 here ua-cam.com/video/XOzgJwpGZNI/v-deo.html)
      If it’s an android device either get a 2-in-1 wireless adapter (my top 5 here ua-cam.com/video/itXvz-y-ycI/v-deo.html) or one specific for android auto like this one ua-cam.com/video/2dpujeByyPk/v-deo.html

    you didn't mention that unlike other devices such as AAWireless and Motorola MA-1, this dongle DOES NOT WORK with your steering wheel controls.

      Sorry to hear that but on my Dasaita the wheel controls work just fine apart from microphone/Siri which I current have assigned to zlink for my built in CarPlay app but it could be mapped for AutoBox app for that purpose. • @HoLDoN4Sec
      @HoLDoN4Sec 2 роки тому +1

      @@CarPlayLife nope, for both of my cars the android Headunit have complete full OEM compatibility and are well spec'd when it comes to android headunits hardware.
      i have full steering wheel controls when i'm using either AAWireless or a Motorola MA-1 with the Headunit Reloaded app, and obviously on the android headunits themselves.
      i tried this carlinkit dongle on both of those cars and with both of them only the volume buttons work, the song skipping or call buttons don't seem to do anything, unlike with the other option i stated above.
      the cars i have tried it with are a 2015 Audi A3 and a 2014 VW Scirocco R.
      both have android headunits with 8x32gb android 9 on the Audi and 8x64gb Android 11 on the Scirocco R.
      i also noticed that with the carlinkit dongle when i receive a phone call it will show me the android headunit's incoming call pop-up on top of the android auto display, but with AAWireless or Motorola MA-1 and Headunit Reloaded it shows me the native Android Auto incoming call pop-up
      another issue i found is that the Wifi antenna of the carlinkit dongle is really weak, for example in my Audi i have put the USB port in the glove box, so i basically store my AAWireless dongle inside the glove box and it works pretty good, but when i did that with the carlinkit dongle it introduced quite a lot of input lag (maybe 5 seconds of input lag?), but the moment i plugged it into my MMI to USB adapter and used that usb port it was working just fine with no noticeable input lag.
      basically this dongle does work, but it is no where near as good as the Motorola MA-1 or even the AAWireless dongles.

      do keep in mind however that sound quality through the AAWIRELESS dongle isn't as good as directly connecting to your car's headunit with bluetooth or as good as those carlinkit dongles, however i think since connection reliability is significantly better with AAWIRELESS than the carlinkit dongles it is still a significantly better and less problematic dongle to use paired with the headunit reloaded app

      Hi. For this adapter the head unit needs to run an Android platform that can have apk apps installed onto it. I don’t know if you’re Volvo will have this functionality?
