Would also like to know where do you get the magnets and is there anything special about them? Before the Amsoil bypass system, was your oil black when you changed it?
Any strong magnets will do. You can get some old computer hard drives and get the magnets out of them. They are extremely strong. I got mine from K & G Magnets. The oil was not black when I installed the bypass. The oil in the Cummins never gets black like it does on my Jetta Tdi.
So as far as filters go these are better than the mobile 1 15k ones i assume? I mean the o 25k ones. I dont think amsoil makes them i heard bosch makes mobile 1's and i also have heard fram ultras are not that great that i what i have been using. I just got a few amsoil filters as i just got a bunch of signature series oil.
Ecoboosted fram ultras are very very good filters. Idk where you heard they aren’t but fram is very good now a days. I run a fram ultra for two oil changes and then put a new one on and my oil Analysis is always great.
+John Latham I dont change it unless the lab says it needs it. I change the filters once a year and send an oil sample off to the lab. The oil was in the truck for 5 years and still was in great shape. I dumped it because I wanted to try the Amsoil Series 3000 5w-30 diesel oil and see if I could pick up a few mpg's.
5 years? How many miles have you had on that oil? Which lab did you use? I had EA+ filter once on Acura MDX that was regular oil for 4 years... synthetic for two years... oil was always dark until the EA filter... which made the oil looks like new after one year of use. I am on once a year oil change but I always wondered if I should have used it longer... Sad part is MDX only have 4.5 quarts of oil capacity... which made me erred on caution. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
How much do you pay for the Amsoil? I was using Rotella Synthetic from Wal Mart in all my diesels and 60's GM cars, but gone is the extra zinc. it was $22 for 5 quarts I think. Have you heard about the diesel sludge spinners? Leroy diesel and I'm sure many others review it. I wonder how it would work on your Cummins? and I can't believe the Amsoil filter is that much better than any other top quality filter, like Mobil 1, Wix.. my Mercedes Mobil 1 cartridge was made in China. The Mann for my BMW made in Mexico. A Mercedes specialist recomends Hengst, fleece filter. My Mercedes is gas, but a diesel is on my wish list. I have an '84 Suburban 6.2 with 284k, they go forever, understressed. And I like filter cutter and magnets. Can't believe how much crap was in the Honda filter!!! The Mercedes specialist recommends changing the cartridge filter between oil changes, it's up top. can't hurt for $3 and 3 minutes. Thx fer posting...
As a fellow Corvair owner and Amsoil dealer (I met you at the Cedar Rapids convention) our Mann filters are generally the made in Germany version which cost less than the Mexico version (dealers use the MEX version for the better mark-up).. And I can ship to you at cost any time. Use the AMO 10W-40 or AMSOIL's HDD 5W-30 diesel which is based on pre 2006 diesel oil and gas engine needs.
Hey Dieselworld - off topic question for you. In addition to my Ram Cummins diesel, I also have a 2006 Jetta TDI and 2001 Golf TDI. I use Amsoil in the Dodge truck but still use what VW recommends in the cars. I've noticed on line a debate raging about whether to use Amsoil in the VW's, since VW doesn't have it on its "approved list". Since both my VW's are well beyond warranty coverage I'm not worried about that, so I'm thinking of using Amsoil in them. What do you use in your VW? Any thoughts on this issue? Thanks, love your channel.
I use AMSOIL 15w-40 since the car had 10k miles. It now has 370k miles. Did as high as 30k drain intervals. Engine is spotless and still gets 55 mpg. I use AMSOIL I'm everything I own that burns gas or diesel.
John Latham if the cars are out of warranty, who cares? And with older cars that are out of warranty they're not going to bother testing oils to be approved for use. As long as the type and weight of oil is correct for the application I personally doing think it gets any better than AMS.
There's no link to the filter cutter. Could you post? Thanks

What Magnets do you use for this? I have the same year pick up. After my next change I might try the amsoil out. Stuff is awesome I hear. Great Video!
Adam Deakin I wanna know the same cause I need those magnets

I have a 2000 Ram 2500 Cummins Diesel, just started using Amsoil with the Amsoil filter - how often do you change your oil?
