    You are such an inspiration to me. I have a lot on my plate this morning but got up earlier to get my WHB and morning routine in before I leave. I feel so wonderful that my bathrooms are always clean and the house is shining. I owe it all to you and to Marla for putting things together. I’ve been a mom of 7 for 51 years now and now, at 72, you’ve given me a new lease on life. You are such a sweetheart, so fun to listen to. You’ve made the difficult art of homemaking ( that so many people consider menial work) into an acknowledged, worthy, important skill.
    I’m so thankful for you - and even though I might seem old to those who know my age - I feel young and vibrant thanks to you helping me finally get it all together!!!

    Thus far, I have been focusing on routines, decluttering, and semi-zone cleaning (still need to work on fully incorporating that). For the first time, I've started incorporating the daily missions...because of this video. I was happy to note that I didn't have to do most of those missions for this week because the master bedroom is in great shape after months of implementing FlyLady system...nothing in corners, no piles of clothes, nothing extraneous in the night stands, closet floor cleared (I reorganized shoes and purged one pair....during the summer I got rid of 14 pairs of shoes I had accumulated over the years!). I also love this month's habit: Paper Clutter. Getting in on that a little late....but making great progress! Last night I shredded a big pile of papers and discarded catalogs. Today, I purged and then got rid of the two magazine racks by two reading chairs that constantly accumulated piles of magazines, books and other misc. Go me! : D

    I love the story about the plastic shoes. Reminds me of a vacation where my husband and I were going to hike in a National Park. ( not our normal vacations at our age of 68yo). I put on my very old 30+ yrs, very good, reasonably expensive leather (rubber soles) hiking boots. About 10 minutes into the hike the sole began to crumble and separated from the leather boot ( like a clowns flopping shoe soles).
    Soooo the boots had disintegrated!! 😆

    Ordered more Christmas cards last night, planned modest ingredients list so I can purchase a little at a time when I see on special. Our modest celebration will be quieter and smaller than ever this year, but we always make it special and meaningful for us. We did organize our charitable donations early this year. I went through the linen closet this past weekend and have items to donate to the animal shelter this week. Put out a childhood memories box filled with little treasures. I put it out every Christmas.

      Hi Joan. I have rheumatoid arthritis and prefer a lightweight microfiber mop to wrestling a vacuum cleaner. When needed, I do a crumb cruise to pick up little bits betw÷n WHBs so they don't get tracked around the house. If I keep up every week, there's no need for the wrestling match.

    I started reading the Elly Griffiths novels at your suggestion. Absolutely love them! So I am returning the favor. I have recently discovered the works of Jean-Luc Bannalec. It is a series of murder mysteries where all the action takes place in Brittany. The murders are not of the gruesome variety. The characters continue through the 3 books I've read so far. They are wonderful ...capture the imagination, describe a beautiful location and are easy to read. Take a look; the chief police officer is very reminiscent of Montalbano.

    Today we have spend 5mins in each of our 3 lounges having a PUPA & Polish, we spent 7mins each of 2 bathrooms emptying bins, changing towels and S&S cloths and refilling loo rolls and a PUPA and S&S....and we spent 15mins in kitchan diner unloaded, reloaded d/w, washed up, wiped worktops and stove, wiped and reset dining table and put on a load of laundry, took down dry and hung up wet! We've also done a few other little jobs (distractions like make bread and cuddle our hens!)...but at least they are done! DH is on dinner duty...oh! Guilty no more. I used to wash things CONSTANTLY and after just one wear. It had never occurred to me to air anything. In the past times, I had that dreaded hotspot of clothes..the chair, the exercise bike handles..where clothing that was worn just once would hang out. As a result, I would end up grabbing the huge pile and washing it all, just to clear the space. I can't even IMAGINE living that way now. Thanks Diane! I have developed your habits now of airing, hanging up, LOL a day..Yay!!!
    And bonus, the exercise bike and the treadmill aren't even here anymore, nor are the laundry baskets!!😁👍

    I showed your wonderful feather duster to my husband, who then took this project on and created a similar one for me. Bless the dear. We nodded to each other that NOW we would take care of those nasty cobwebs on our very high ceilings. I grabbed my newly minted extended feather duster and proceeded to attack the cobwebs, only to find that they weren't coming off with the feather duster but smooching to the ceiling! Who knew that we had textured paint on the ceiling. sigh Time to bring out the big ladder and the shop vac with the extra extended hoses.

    I completed my first full whb yesterday. So proud. Also derailed the plans of my spouse to "mop" today. Cause I already did!!!
    I've kind of re-ordered what I do on which day to work around my life (which I think is the whole point of this). Like I only have to do washing 1 day a week (95%) of the time. So I do that while I'm doing my power hour (as i call it), then finish it after (I've timed how long each machine takes to complete so I can work around that time frame). And I do those on Sunday because that is my 1 happy day of the week (when spouse is out of the house all day and cannot interfere). :-D
    I have always hated 'cleaning'. It's always been a punishment to me (growing up it WAS a punishment). This is helping me to change how I see it and respond to it. And I'm feeling a lot happier and more motivated. And now that my back injury is almost mended, I've got a lot more in me to get moving instead of sitting around. I'll be honest, I spent 4 weeks just printing and organizing my own journal while I had to rest. Now I'm ready!
    I LOVE MY SLEEP MASK. Not sure if I have the exact same one as you or not...but I love that thing! Helps me not have to listen to my rude spouse being loud at 12 am after work. :)

    Of all your clothes, that claret-colored top is my favorite and like a fine wine, I love the way you paired it with the light jacket. The two necklines work so well together and the contrast has a very brightening effect. It makes your complexion very bright on a gloomy day. Go you! ☕🧺❤👍

    • @eileencarroll6418
      @eileencarroll6418 4 роки тому

      P.S.: Keep an eye out for 3-or 4-inch ,necklace extensions. Adding that tiny bit of length might prevent your necklace from getting tangled in your collar ruffle. I use them when I out out my clothes the night before. That habit has helped me take the time for little details like necklace extensions whereas I could not be bothered if were rushing in the morning. I am also grateful because the process gets me to try on clothes that I have not worn in a long time after my evening shower. If something does not fit, it gets decluttered and I have time to pick out something else. I never would have expected it, but at 62, my arms seem to be getting wider just above the elbows and narrow jacket sleeves are uncomfortable. With the change of season, it is nice to not have those surprises at the I'm-NOT-a-morning-person start of the day. On the bright side, the evening garment check is an effective declutter opportunity.

    Hi Diane, quick question! Do you ever wipe down walls when you detail clean or just use the feather duster? Thanks in advance! X

    • @eileencarroll6418
      @eileencarroll6418 4 роки тому +3

      I wipe down walls once a year in January after all the holiday box dust settles (with each zone). Dry microfiber does the trick. A freshly washed dry pad on the floor tool makes fast work of walls, then I use the skoosh-skoosh on the floors without missing a beat. I have been doing a lot of demolition and construction--one more bathroom to go--and wiping the walls helps keep the dust down after each construction project. As needed, after a cool and windy summer with open windows, the dust from a nearby beach might create a fine dusty film on the walls. Then I try to do a once-over with the microfiber when I am closing the windows for the year. Do whatever works for you. Things like smoking or people/pet traffic or a new cult-like carpet that sheds make a difference. Everyone is different. If you are not sure, run a dark t-shirt across the wall and if no light dust comes up, you're good. I interpret the fly Lady system as keeping up with things so they don't become overwhelming balanced with allowing time every day for self-care, friends, family and enjoying life. Thanks for reading my rant. Writing this out helps motivate me.
