Diane. I wanted to give you an update. I found you in January and it took me 9 or 10 months to get my routeens really established and that was life changing. Yesterday I cleaned out under my bed and vacumed under it for the first time in 3 years. I am so much happier and relaxed now. Thank you so much. I can't really explain the difference but I think you know because you experienced it. I wouldn't have been able to do it without your videos, the written information wouldn't have done it for me.
(I was commenting as Simplifying Family Life, but am myself again now!) Thank you Diane! All such great ideas, as always. I’ve been trying out other systems for a couple of weeks, but have come to the conclusion that Flylady, and your interpretation of it in particular, works best. I did that thing last week of attempting to deep clean the house to reset it. And guess what? It was stressful! Couldn’t do that and keep up with my routines, so the washing, errands etc got out of control. Not doing that again! Your voice came into my head saying, “start where you are.” So, this week, back to routines and daily focus. Sometimes we have to find out the hard way, don’t we?? Glad to be back!
I don't know how you manage it, but you have a wonderful way of getting that hyggelig feeling through your videos and into my home! Anyone can make a video with helpful info, but your videos inspire me and get me thinking all those positive, "I can do it!" type thoughts. And not just, "I can do it!" but also, "I am so excited for this!" Thank you, dearest Diane, from chilly Michigan, the Mitten state, USA😊
Fellow Michigander here and I completely agree! Also, I have 2 candles lit right now, and I never would have even thought to light candles in the morning previous to watching these hyggelig videos. 😊
Clutter free gifts are a great idea because we have been reducing our clutter nicely since January, I don't want to add more useless items anymore. Wrapping paper idea is a great idea. If you have young children or grand children you can give them a special wrapping paper just for them. Use it for birthdays, Christmas etc then they know which is their special package. This is a fun time of year and I love doing the missions for the holiday season.
Diane, can't believe how you have helped me. Since I started the routines I've felt so good. Most of my life I've felt down, with these routines and your videos, and your happy face it makes me feel happier with life. Thank you Denise xx
I’m so happy to start cruising through the holidays. I have an idea for a clutter free gift. I love natural, handmade soaps so every year for about 3 years now, my son has given me a set of soaps to last just about a whole year. I feel pampered every time I take a shower now.
I had the same idea myself yesterday in regards to wrapping paper. I"ve decided to go for brown paper for every occassion and jazz them up with twine, red ribbon or dried flowers/leaves. Most wrapping paper can not be recycled, but brown paper can and the ribbons and bows can be reused. Im also striving for a toy free xmas for my 9yr old. He's a rare breed in that he doesnt really like opening a lot of stuff, so im getting him a theatre pass and a years worth of drum lessons (aswell as computer games 🙄). Also aiming for an amazon free xmas, going to try to be more organised so i can buy from companies that pay tax and not panic buy from amazon x
my 10yo wants a more eco-aware christmas and prefers vouchers for bowling, horse-riding, pottery painting etc. She also plans to bake for our local friends (your recipes Diane!) and we've made lots of our own cards and bought envelopes for some commercial ones we found that had become separated from the envelopes. We use brown paper and real ribbons and make our own door wreath and table centrepiece from bits we find in the garden and on walks....so much nicer.....and with love....go us!
My Mother was a big fan of giving presents. Different kind of wrapping paper and ribbons. Boxes full of it... Round Christmas she was busy for hours wrapping them. We the kids and the grand kids loved to see them under the christmas tree. She passend away 4 years ago an I think I don't have to buy wrapping paper or ribbons for the next 10 years. 🙄. So that mission I can ✅. Thanks for your great video's. 👍
I found baby wrapping paper I used to wrap a gift for a friend's daughter at her baptism. She's in Secondary school now, and anyway I forgot I had the stuff, so goodness knows how many times I bought paper with babies in mind. Red and silver from now on. 😆 Have a lovely day and thanks for the pop pom cheers they make my day.x
You are so very welcome, Emmalee! And hopefully you will find the process fun! I usually share a lot of Danish traditions and how we do hygge Christmas here 😍
Hello Diane. Thanks for your continued inspiration. I could help but notice your nail polish on this video I love it. Have a wonderful holiday season with your family.
Can't wait to start working on my Holiday control journal! : ) Yes, the holidays will be here before we know it! I have added "Watch Diane in Denmark video" as part of my morning routine. : ) Very motivating and keeps me on track! Love your videos.
I agree with token gifts 🎁 as you just end up getting so much , it can be overwhelming . I always feel I have to declutter after Christmas so I don’t end up with too much things
I think it’s a really good idea to reconsider the Christmas cake since the family isn’t fond of it. Some traditions may no longer serve us and I think it’s a very conscious decision to consider that fact. 🎄
We have Søstrene Grene in Nottingham (one of the first to come to the UK, it came a few years ago) - lovely shop! Thanks for another helpful video - helpful in getting me motivated to get organised for Christmas......AND helpful in that you've told me how to pronounce Søstrene Grene properly! (I go in there such a lot, I should at least know how to say it correctly!)
I’ve just had a look on their website... what a gorgeous shop 💖 They do not sell online though and don’t have any branches in London, but here’s hoping they will open up a branch nearer to where I live in the future.
There aren't many here....yet, and we've done well that there's one in Nottingham (our nearest city). I love looking in there and the prices are very reasonable and the quality's good. They have a good turnaround of stock too, so there is usually something new to look at (or buy!) every time I visit. I just have to watch myself that I don't end up buying lots of odds and ends that I don't really need!!
I am so thankful I do not host any sort of holiday events. Totally stress-free. I've already gotten a few gifts bought and wrapped, I'm happy to be ahead of the game there! I am also ok spending a few extra dollars to get nice decorative gift bags (I'm awful at wrapping - especially oddly shaped things).

Yes! Great food for thought here, Diane ;) I was thinking, how refreshing that you are applying the decluttering concept of "Does this fit for my family now?" to our holiday traditions! As in, we don't always have to do the "same" things if things have changed a bit over the yrs. "Half of the pudding....And maybe no cake?" It's still all GOOD!! I'll make your other half of the pudding (( smiles )) bc the family here tried it for the 1st time last year and they were in love with it😍🍚😍 Checking the IKEA wrap supplies today and it will be easy since I know have adopted the gold/silver/white generic wrap idea from you😁 The lady who does our regional IKEA trip will be going this wknd so your heads- up on holiday missions was...perfect timing! Cheers👍😊
Planning decorations and if anything will be needed. It will be much less, since we gave much away this fall. Nov 1 , I can make the rest of my online orders. I am replacing all my washcloths and some towels ,will take the old to the animal shelter .I do this once or twice a year. Gift giving has been reassessed , so my middle aged children are receiving photos I have had put on CDs and some Antique photos copied and printed out on canvas. so done! I am getting a bit weary of the years of a one sided holiday. I give gifts out steadily throughout the year anyway and have to cut back on this. I do not mean to be negative about it, but must be realistic. I still enjoy sending out Christmas cards, and a focus on community charity activities
Thanks for the starting motivation! Looking for the gift ideas you mentioned, which link, , thanks! This will be a wonderful and less stressed set of holidays,
Hello! Excellent video. Maybe you could make a small Christmas cake or make multi small ones and freeze them? I always make a Christmas cake and my family do actually like it. Usually when I make it my husband can’t wait to tuck into it!!! As we are away for Christmas this year though he may we’ll get his wish to tuck in earlier than normal!!!! 😂😂😂
Do YOU enjoy the Christmas Cake? If so I do think it's good to keep going with it. Also, with sincerity (and a bit of snark, too, I'll own), perhaps they'll uncover some affection in their hearts for it if you inform them about the ENORMOUS popularity of the Christmas cake in Japan. It is a--no, THE--required item for Christmas celebrating. Admittedly, it is a fresh cream (what they call whipped cream) and strawberry on a light sponge OR a montblanc--similar, with chestnut mousse/"extruded noodles" instead of strawberries. This, just like their beloved kareraisu--curry over rice--is directly owing to admiration and flattering imitation of British/U.K. menus.

Oh and my house is all decluttered accept for the loft but I need my husband to do that with me.
Yay, that is brilliant - go you on getting those routines going! 🖐🎉🎉🎉

Denise Sharps I second that! I started with the 31 Baby Step playlist in August and it was life changing! Thank you, Diane! 💝
Hi Diane. I'm glad I found your channel. You have such a lovely community here. I'm glad to see that I'm not alone. 👍Thanks to you, thanks to all
Welcome to the gang, Julia - so glad you can join us!

I can’t believe we’re so close to Christmas already. The way time seems to go faster and faster, I fully expect to turn 85 next week.
Oh, you gave me a chuckle with that one!😆
LOL! I feel like I'm 85 already! 😍

We are using festive fabric bags for gifts this year and will reuse the bags each year to cut down on paper waste.

LOL! Perhaps you can use the baby wrapping paper for when she has a baby!!! 🖐😄
Reusing ribbons? a hair straightener is a super quick way to press them :)
Diane I am so grateful that you break this down for me!! I need all the help I can get! ❤️
You are so very welcome, Emmalee! And hopefully you will find the process fun! I usually share a lot of Danish traditions and how we do hygge Christmas here 😍
Diane in Denmark I’m excited to see that!!! Christmas is my favorite time of year! ❤️
Hello Diane. Thanks for your continued inspiration. I could help but notice your nail polish on this video I love it. Have a wonderful holiday season with your family.

Great video! Slowly starting to organise myself with your help 😊
BTW we love Xmas cake but never made it.... Would love a video of how to make it! X
Hi B Fab! I have a whole playlist of recipes...here's the video for the Christmas cake ua-cam.com/video/Sg_u0FpMfZc/v-deo.html

Anne Pearce ... easily done, everything is right up my street, especially the Christmas decorations etc., very tempting! x
Yes, it's particularly good at Christmas! Hopefully they'll open a few more stores in the UK in future.....
Brilliant Diane...thank you xx

Hi Cathy! Here you are ua-cam.com/video/1AeZS05O7-c/v-deo.html
Is there a place where all the missions are written down in a list so I can check them off each day?

Great idea, Lucie! But I'm the only one here who eats it...not even a huge fruit cake fan myself - I only eat it for the marcipan and icing! 😄🍰🍰🍰
Diane in Denmark 😂😂😂
