Thank you so much for watching 10 Things to Declutter without thinking twice! Watch 10 Things That Changed from Swedish Death Cleaning (It Might Surprise You!) ua-cam.com/video/U3ZPdzct5os/v-deo.html
I have seen millions declutter videos but this was the best. THE BEST. It's 10 o'clock in the evening but I'm gonna start right now 😊😊😊 Much love from Finland from an 68 year old woman ❤
I don't enjoy going into stores any longer! I don't want to buy "stuff" & decluttering has been ongoing for many years. Seeing my parent's house full & then having to clear it was an eye-opener.
Me too! The "fun of buying stuff" seemed to end for me around age 60! It's most enjoyable now giving my unused things to young couples starting their first home, giving specific things to people who need & don't have, also give to friends & relatives.
@@jnorway7295 as they say .. if you don't want a haircut, don't sit in the barber's chair! lol .. sooooo many years of recreational shopping, sigh .. yard sales, thrift stores .. so on .. uggg, my floors are going to cave in
I had to jump on the laptop to add a reply to this excellent video. I started my decluttering journey about 6 months ago after watching your video with your mother on Swedish Death Cleaning. I started with an overflowing 4 drawer filing cabinet, then my photos, the rest was/is easy (ish). Then tonight watching this list of 100 things to declutter made me realise just how far I've come! As you were going through the list, I remembered....the handbags, socks, swimsuits, underwear, towels, sheets...the list goes on......books, clothes, hats!......goodness, how far I've come! AND IT'S ALL THANKS TO YOU! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I still have the shed, the garden tools, and regular 'house sweeps' to do, but thank you for all the fun, laughter and encouragement to have a tidy, clean, useful home. Love Goldie XX
Been a minimlist since 2017. This year finally got my mom to start downsizing her stuff, it's been stressfull and emotinal for her looking through 55+years of documents, clothing, life. But Im proud of her. It will take another year to orgnize everything since she wants to donate to credible Outlets, but i think everyone at any age should do this.
I used an empty (Large) peanut butter jar to store Sharpies. They don't dry out. I have had them for 8 years and they still work. Yes we use them for projects with the kids.
Sometimes buy something new can be a tool to declutter. I bought new Correlle loose stock plates and bowls along with new glasses . I got rid of so many mismatched dishes ,glasses and mugs.
@sct4040 I understood that she had a lot and didn't want to let go of any so she got rid of all in exchange for 1 matching set which had less pieces total then she originally had with all the separate pieces
@@beans4853 Yes the sets have pieces that I didn’t use ,I didn’t get rid of them because they ‘ were part of the set’. Having all uniform pieces allows them to store more compactly and look neater.
Hi Shannon. I'm over 66 years old, and love that you showed decluttering with your mom. I watch a lady with a page called Downsizing Pro. She tells if collectables are worth anything and talks about tales about family intervening and step children just taking what they want, although they were told "NO", not until I'm gone. All things very helpful to me, although I don't have any step children. My main clutter is with my hobby -greeting card making. It has exploded all over my kitchen counter, dining room table as well as the very small bedroom I have. I continued to purchase supplies but not getting rid of much - 1 in, 1 out. Thanks for all you do.
Excellent tips. I wish I had been following them my whole life. After 6 kids, 14 grands, and now 21 greats and still going, I have accumulated more than I can handle. Also, I sew for myself and family and do art work. Now that I am almost 90 years old it has become depressing and I don’t have the energy to declutter. My relatives are so supportive, but also burdened with their own responsibilities, so my advice is to start young and keep decluttering to be able to focus on real living.
It is best to do a room at a time so it is not overwhelming. Have a 3 bins/boxes. Keep, donate, toss. Every January we purge old expired drugs OTC expired meds, old makeup, toiletries. The small unopened toiletries from hotels I gather and done to local women’s shelter. They list drop off places that are near you since address of shelter is private for safety purposes. I do have a gallery wall in Froom but love the idea of an electronic frame.
I found that trying to pick things to let go of was too stressful for me because it created too many overwhelming and tiring decisions. What worked better was to take it all out for that category (eg. socks, utensils) where I could see all of it then just put back my favorite, most often-used things to keep. No individual decisions needed on the rest, just chuck into the donation box. I'll bet most people couldn't even list what was in the last box they donated and don't miss it! Also consider taking pics of the semi-sentimental things for memories, no need to keep the things themselves!
Thank you Shannon! When you talked about hobbies and crafts you used to like and no longer do, that really resonated with me. I had guilt about the money invested and spent a lot of time trying to force myself to do those things. I have almost fully accepted that I’ve changed and my energy is different and focus is elsewhere. It took me a long time to declutter the items though!
I’m decluttering in October. I’m giving away dishes. Christmas stuff I haven’t used in years. I’ve made several trips with my SUV to Goodwill. Some things to my daughter. We want to downsize in the next year. I have a 5000 sq ft house and want to downsize to a 2000 sq ft house. I’m attacking the basement first. One area at a time. I’m retired now. So I’ll give myself several hours sometimes a full day. Whatever I have time to do. It has to be done so your video was very helpful. I helped my Mom 3 years ago when they moved from Florida back to Ohio when they were both getting older and needed more help. I learned a lot by helping her. Thank you
Every video gets me to the right mindset to help my husband when he decides to start this journey. What makes the process easier is that I've been on this journey for about a decade. Being on our Airstream has gotten him to the "ready" to de clutter stage. Thank you Shannon, and Cathy ~
I have been downsizing for over 20 years. I found a Christian run donation center in a small town outside the large city where I live. They help local families in need by raising money from donations that they sell in their store and online at eBay. If donations are needed by families directly, they are able to pass those things along. (I don't donate to the nationally known centers like Goodwill.) TIP FOR DONATING: I use small moving boxes or shipping boxes to donate items. I label each box with what is inside. I always wash, iron and fold clothing and donate only what I would want to receive. Your idea to donate old towels to pet shelters is a good idea. I use old towels for rags around the house.
We get a lot of vases at our church when people bring flowers for special occasions. I bring them to the local florist who we deal with instead of throwing them out where they'll end up in a landfill.
I love that you’re doing this with your mum. I started doing it with mine, then she died suddenly. We had a lot done so it was so helpful when we had to sell the house afterwards.
Yes, knowing you have already decluttered means a lot less stress after a death. So sorry you lost your mother but glad you were ahead of the game on sorting belongings.
First, I have to say that floral top is great on you and the floral curtain behind you fits so well in front of the wardrobe. Now to what I was actually going to write 😅. Don't forget furniture. Often we declutter a lot of things without thinking about the furniture. If the bookshelf becomes empty, it is easy to fill it up again. Make it a habit to reduce the number of furniture after you declutter a lot of things so that you don't see opportunities to fill them up again😊
Shannon: Thanks very much for your video! I realized and wrote down 62 items that I can get rid of (clutter). I now realize that I was keeping things like buttons (just in case) and CDs/cassettes that I still love but are only collecting dust. Someone else may surely like them, too. I am going to first put things to throw away first, then get boxes to donate with knicknacks and souvenirs that I've enjoyed (got carried away). You are indeed a joy and a pleasure (plus quite generous with your very useful suggestions to declutter!!
I love all the fun inspirational content on your channel. Love the clip of your mom, Cathy, wearing the sheet as a ghost! We’ve come so far, letting go of what no longer serves so that we can live life with more ease. I’m 2 years in to the deep decluttering/Swedish Death cleaning. Momentum builds, as does the decluttering muscle of discernment. I’ve been able to assist my parents with their decluttering, which has been a blessing to us all. Thanks for your lovely content. It’s important work in this world of so much stuff & overwhelm. Cheers to more peace, ease, & joy. 🕊✨
I did declutter pic frames years ago, among other nick-nacks. I just didn't want to dust around them anymore. However, now that my kids are grown, my dad recently passed, and I've lived with a more simple house for a while now....I now want to have picture frames around again. People are the most important things in my life and that is what I want my house to reflect. They bring me joy. So I don't overdo it, just one per shelf and no other nick-nacks. I can't have ANY plants because my cats destroy them (no matter how high I manage to get them, LOL), even fake plants. You'll notice that when your life is less chaotic (children grown up) and you've lived simply for a while, you then find that you have a little more space to bring in some very intentional, meaningful, things.
I have one of those clothing pin picture strings and i rotate the photos every few seasons - i also added in photos after being super minimal and this works for me
Tip: To clean rubber surfaces that have become sticky due to age just carefully clean with cotton ball or small rag and isopropyl alcohol 90% works best but any is fine. I’ve used this for the rubber on the backs of calculators, handle of a hand mixer, hammers, garage tools, etc.
Yes, light bulbs! I've literally just paused watching this to go and do it - there were enough long-life bulbs to last a dozen lifetimes! Just have one of each size now, very satisfying...
Thanks Shannon - I know there are 3 areas in my home that I need to target. Papers/paperwork are a road block for me - something that has overwhelmed me a number of times during my life - I managed to get it all perfectly filed and sent a huge secure bin for shredding a few years ago, but it has crept up on me again. I definitely need to deal with Christmas decorations, garden tools/tools in general, bed linen (again), the clothes that I moved to the guest bedroom closet and haven’t touched since, books - mostly reference, non fiction, history, genealogy (another roadblock), a couple of large kitchen appliances and craft supplies (buttons are an issue for me though - I collect vintage buttons). I definitely need to go through all of our pens and stationery - I run the admin and bookkeeping for our 2 businesses from home and my office definitely needs some work. We have been through our bathrooms in the past year or so, but I think we could do that again. I think I’ll print out your list and highlight all of the areas we need to attend to.
Great video as always! In your other videos, I have seen your Mom handling her old Tupperware round cake container with the lid and then to put in back in the cabinet. Well that sparked something in me to declutter mine. I am just about ready to donate it with my cookie cutter collection in it. Thanks for giving me the idea and courage that’s it’s ok to declutter it.
Thanks so much for this video! :) Candles make me feel stressed because I'm afraid I'll knock them over, and they also give me migraines. Thanks for the ideas. I've been getting stuck lately on what to declutter.
THROW PILLOWS - A previous video you did about decluttering throw pillows inspired me to get rid of several extra pillows including regular bed pillows that were really in my way and old. SOCKS - When I watched your mom decluttering socks about a year ago that also inspired me to do my sock drawers and try to get rid of ones that get holes. OLD TWOELS/CLOTHES - My husband reuses those that can't be donated for rags when he is working on the cars or other projects. I use some of them for cleaning projects that are really messy so I can throw them away afterwards. PURSES - I used to be a "purse collector". I had so many purses! I even bought them at thrift stores. I have changed my ways! LOL I have decluttered about 80% of my purses/bags. I even had a few brand-new ones with tags still on them that I had for several years and never used so they got donated. BASKETS - I like to collect are baskets. I use them around my house but one day I counted that I had about 100 baskets!!! I decluttered about 25 of them and gave a few away. I still have a lot, but I do use them for various reasons. JACKETS/COATS - I need to revisit those. I got rid of several but still have too many (husband too). BLANKETS - I used to be bad about buying blankets of all kinds especially if they were on sale. I have some that have never been used! i got rid of some but need to revisit blankets. DECOR - I have decluttered a lot in the past few years especially this year. I'm planning on getting rid of more Christmas decorations this year. I don't decorate as much as I used to. Thanks for all the suggestions!
Amazing!!! You hit all my sore spots. Piles of stuff, here, there, pretty much everywhere in our home - inside and out! I'm revving up for this, but starting the process is the biggest step for me!
I go to the areas that call my name. Or the one that annoys me the most. Or sometimes the time of year dictates since I want to bring things to the thrift store in season. We've been in our house around 15 years which it a huge record for us, and I've been slowly decluttering for over a year, going on two. I've redone several areas getting rid of a bit more each time ( mainly kitchen/books/clothes )
I enjoyed this video 😊 Im happy to say that I've decluttered BIGTIME. I began 2 years ago and now that I'm at the new house I CONTINUE to simplify and I'm HAPPY 😊 HAPPY 🎉 HAPPY 😁 I honestly do not feel the need to purchase anything. Great video.
Puppy potty pads are great for cleaning up large spills, place on spill paper side down, it will absorb the spill in no time making clean up easier and saving on paper towels!
I am actually impressed with myself! The only things on your list that I have not decluttered and continue to declutter regularly are, old camera equipment, Christmas decorations and old calendars! I have come a long way over the past 5 years!
A great list. Thanks for giving good reasons why they should be donated or thrown out - but not dwelling on everything for too long. It kept it flying by.
Thank you! I have been a burgeoning minimalist for a bit now and felt like I was stalling out lately. I resolved to declutter 1 item a day this month and this list helped me think of some areas I could work on.
First time on your video & it is so real, related to the glsss jar full of matches just incase a birthday comes along & I don't even smoke. Laugh at your videos as their so relatable to me.
I always look forward to your Sunday morning videos Shannon. This was like your best video ever (I love all your videos by the way). It covered a lot of ground. I have watched many videos on UA-cam, but I feel this one has totally encouraged me to go out and accomplish a clutter free home. Thank you Shannon and Cathy, you truly are the best!
Containers with a pretty label reading 'miscellaneous' are just an excuse to hang on to junk. Every time I think about buying another plastic box, I know I need to let some stuff go.
When it comes to sheets ? Because they were bought to match a particular bed cover ? I find it's the bottom sheets that get stained, worn or generally funky ! SO, to freshen up that set of sheets ? Just buy a new bottom sheet, and if it's in a contrasting, neutral colour from the rest of the set ? Who cares. Makes an interesting contrast, and you've still got that set of sheets that match your quilt. :)
Great video, Shannon. I had not thought about the electronic picture frame but it is a wonderful idea. I am going to ask my son and granddaughter if they would like one of them. They would make a fantastic Christmas gift.
Wow, I can’t believe you got through 100! This video really got me excited to start right now getting rid of stuff. I can’t wait to start checking things off of the checklist! Thanks ❤
All great ideas! I’ll have to rewatch! (& share). I also allow purchasing new item if it allows me to eliminate or consolidate or minimize other items.
Absolutely! We found about a year ago some from Costco that work very well and we bought 3 packs of 5 and cut up the ones we had for rags. We opted for a slightly larger number than we need, but still fit in the spot we have them so that they don't end up wearing out too fast then forcing us to hunt down new ones.
Hi Shannon, Your video is The BEST De-clutter video I have seen! Hands down! Love that you and your Mom are going through everything together, in all areas of the home. Great team work! Thanks you so much. All the best.
Great video. I saw ME there so many times. To me it's like if I have 50 pens but they are all in a small box…..well, that's not clutter is it? Yes, yes it is. :). I am right now into getting rid of things and have done a good job on the bigger things but thanks to you and your sweet mom, I guess I need to go down a level and work on those pens and buttons.😂😂😂😂
Thanks for sharing all your tips. It's funny that you mentioned flower pots. I just thought about doing mine the other day. Your is so much fun to watch. God bless you and your family 🦋🪴💐
Minimalism is always different for people who live in places with a full winter season. In Ontario, we need coats and jackets, and I would also advise against having only one daily handbag. In wintertime, we need one heavy-duty handbag that zips tightly, ideally in a dark colour so that it doesn’t show the dirt that snowy, windy weather also brings. In summer, we can have another handbag in whatever style or colour we like.
Yes to the crock pot, I rarely use it, it takes up too much space, but I use my Instant Pot at least once a week which has a slow cooking feature so I bought the lid to use it as such if needed.
Hey Shannon! Great video with some awesome ideas of items we could declutter! I also don’t own a crockpot or Instant Pot. I just make everything in our oven or air fryer! Thanks for sharing!☺️💖
Pens: Most people don't understand why someone would decline free pens. But let's be honest, those are just knick-knacks you will declutter or throw away, because they can't be sold second hand. Great video ❤

Great video. I decluttered last year and am now maintaining. I am much happier! 💜
Yes, light bulbs! I've literally just paused watching this to go and do it - there were enough long-life bulbs to last a dozen lifetimes! Just have one of each size now, very satisfying...
This video is very useful! I will start decluttering more items.
That French easel was beautiful!! I paint with watercolor. I’d love to see a little video of what you keep to enjoy painting.
Always love seeing the Sunday 9am video! Happy Sunday Shannon ! 😊💖
Thank you for being here! I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

This winter I’m going to declutter! I’ve only been in my new house 2 1/2 years and need to do it.
I am sharing with my daughter and son in law they need to declutter. Thanks for sharing
That is awesome!
Thanks so much, this video was intense and relatable down to the flower pots! Guilty! You and your mom.. total cuteness!
Thanks so much for this video! :) Candles make me feel stressed because I'm afraid I'll knock them over, and they also give me migraines. Thanks for the ideas. I've been getting stuck lately on what to declutter.
Yay! I am happy this might help =)
I am having a good declutter wknd! Downsized another dresser! Thx to you Shannon❤
Great job!
Yay! I love that you shared all your tips and journey with us! Thank you =)
Amazing!!! You hit all my sore spots. Piles of stuff, here, there, pretty much everywhere in our home - inside and out! I'm revving up for this, but starting the process is the biggest step for me!
Wonderful!
Set the timer, 5min.,5items. I guarantee you will feel better
Great ideas!
Great video! I’m in the process of decluttering our home of 25 years! I sometimes wonder where to start next. These are great ideas!
@@wendyeskelin8765 that’s sort of what I’ve been doing. I’ve made great progress. It just takes time to see it overall.
Vases can be given to hospitals, or aged care facilities, as they are often short of them around valentines or Christmas.
Or take the unused vases to florists!! People never think about that, but florists definitely use them for arrangements DAILY! 😀
Great video - awesome tips! I have a cat, so I definitely keep a small box of junk towels & wash clothes handy. I limit the amount I keep though.
Just love the curtain and color of wood you are standing beside!!
All good ideas.😊 You covered items that we allow to be scattered here and there, like coins, half used notebooks, etc.
I did get alot out of your video. I will rewatch it. 100%
Thank you! I have been a burgeoning minimalist for a bit now and felt like I was stalling out lately. I resolved to declutter 1 item a day this month and this list helped me think of some areas I could work on.
Love watching your mom helping you declutter with you and thanks for donating to the animal shelter, they need it and I do that too.
First time on your video & it is so real, related to the glsss jar full of matches just incase a birthday comes along & I don't even smoke. Laugh at your videos as their so relatable to me.
Beautiful hair!! Thanks for your videos. Sweet family.
This video is filled with so many great ideas of things to declutter. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks ❤
Thank you for the very comprehensive list with all the examples... that was quite the compilation!
Great list, Shannon. I hope you are having a wonderful Labor Day weekend.
Thank you! You too!
Exercise equipment that is never used (bands, jump ropes, weights, etc.)
Great list! I'm off to declutter now.
I agree with another commenter, I love seeing your Sunday videos. And I just wanted to add too, Your hair looks amazing in this video!
Oh thank you!
This is the best decluttering video. So many tips that make sense and are easy to apply. Thanks ❤
Glad it was helpful!
Great ideas to think about. Decluttering is ongoing for maintenance throughout life so it’s good to have these ideas to spark fresh motivation.
All great ideas! I’ll have to rewatch! (& share). I also allow purchasing new item if it allows me to eliminate or consolidate or minimize other items.
Kitchen towels that aren’t absorbent make me crazy! Those are going in the trash today. 😅
I found the dollar store dish cloths do not absorb.
The microfiber towels are useless trying to dry dishes & glasses 🥴
Absolutely! We found about a year ago some from Costco that work very well and we bought 3 packs of 5 and cut up the ones we had for rags. We opted for a slightly larger number than we need, but still fit in the spot we have them so that they don't end up wearing out too fast then forcing us to hunt down new ones.
Did you trash those?
Can I ask, do you iron the teatowels. Ironing makes them less absorbent.
💯 on all of these. I have one favorite brand of pens. No others. No freebies.
THAT'S IT!! Going into the kitchen and ditching that plug in Ice Cream Maker RIGHT NOW!!
Thrift stores can easily sell your donated ice cream maker!
Ha ha ha! I have an Asian Steamboat that I have never used.
Hi Shannon, Your video is The BEST De-clutter video I have seen! Hands down! Love that you and your Mom are going through everything together, in all areas of the home. Great team work! Thanks you so much. All the best.
Thank you ms. Shanon for sharing ur videos to us. I learned much from decluttering and for being minimalist.
Quite a thorough and amazing video thank you so much
Thank you! I hope you are doing well.
Yay! I always love a new Shannon video to keep me company while I get my house in order 🥰
This is a great list full of ideas as had not really thought of. You and your mom are fun to watch.
Very good decluttering, tips. Help me tremendously 😊
Great video overall… I’m decluttering while listening!
Great ideas for spring cleaning here
Yes to the crock pot, I rarely use it, it takes up too much space, but I use my Instant Pot at least once a week which has a slow cooking feature so I bought the lid to use it as such if needed.
Great... thorough and fast-paced!
Hey Shannon! Great video with some awesome ideas of items we could declutter! I also don’t own a crockpot or Instant Pot. I just make everything in our oven or air fryer! Thanks for sharing!☺️💖
Thanks so much!!
We're all different. I love my slow cooker and use it often. Don't want an air fryer or instapot.
Pens: Most people don't understand why someone would decline free pens. But let's be honest, those are just knick-knacks you will declutter or throw away, because they can't be sold second hand. Great video ❤
Those free pens rarely have much ink in them.
Mission accomplished. I feel inspired. ✨
great list of no long used items!
I helped a disabled relative de-clutter her closet. She had 8 big bags of clothing that hadn't fit in years. Donated to a thrift shop. Tina, Al's wife
