I have been sick and have not been sick in like forever. Sore throat/earache/chills
The happy part is, the house was in such order that I was able to rest without guilt! I feel so happy to a have a simplified house now, with established habits and routines. I didn't get many things checked off last week, but I know that the zone will be back around. The house still looks great :) The area underneath our kitchen sink makes me smile now:) It is all thanks to you! 2 yrs in the running and your cheery examples continue to keep me in check. Will forever be grateful XOXOX

Fun Fact: Did you know blue in the kitchen, most specifically blue plates/bowls helps you to eat less? It decreases the appetite, you feel full sooner and eat slower. That is why they use a lot of reds in restaurants and fast food chains because it has the opposite effect. Eat more. Eat fast.

My house is on autopilot for a week while I am visiting sons and grands in DC. My single son asked me to organize his closet here! I gave my kitchen and pantry at home a good clean and sort before I left. My ice cream machine is stowed until next summer! While in DC , I will be small gifting for our holidays. My son will help me with some online organization while I am here. Also I will purchase some treats while here in DC that are not available in Montana for hubs and son back home.

I always declutter good food in November to give to the food bank. Surprisingly last year I gave a very large box full of food we weren't going to eat in the holidays and needed the space for all the seasonal baking

Add 5 drops of a favorite essential oil to cleaning sprays already on hand. Christmas scents sound fantastic. I love orange and cinnamon.
I usually use lemon and lime essential oils in the kitchen, teatree and eucalyptus in the bathroom (and pretend I am at a spa shower) and vanilla in the bedroom/wardrobe.
Some people like lavender on their sheets. I prefer spice flavors. I put 5 to 10 drops of oil into plain water and use the spray to loosen wrinkles in my sheets and clothes. In mid winter I sometimes spray the scented water in the air over the bed just to add extra humidity to the air.
I have decluttered my cleaning products. When my baking soda in the fridge is done deodorizing, I use it as a sink scrub. Baking soda is also safe for cleaning silver. I use plain IKEA spray bottles to spray simple cleaners. Half-and-half vinegar-and-water with a drop of dish detergent and a few drops of essential oil makes a good all-purpose cleaner. I checked with the manufacturer of my quartz countertop and they warned that using anything acidic will slightly dull the finish over time. So. I use half-and-half water and rubbing alcohol on my countertops. And that led me to discover that 100% rubbing alcohol is really fast at dissolving oils on my stainless steel parts on my countertops, range and hood, and it drys streak-free. So of course I had to try it on my mirrors and I was surprised at how much faster I could do the mirrors and other glass. Simple, and no harsh chemicals.
    🎶🧺🎶☕👍

For me, it seems doable even after a busy day at work. More importantly I feel that I can maintain this level of effort 😃

I was wondering if you could do a special edition for cleaning pet areas before we get into holiday time. We have Thanksgiving coming up then of course Christmas, my favorite.
Many of us also have birds & would appreciate you sharing yours and your routine.
Cleaning water, food bowls & perches is daily ( & sweeping)
and bigger cage cleaning every other day for me. For dogs daily managing cleaning their feet after walks. Maintaining collars & leashes, washing beds and blankets, sweaters and coats.
Just a thought especially with your beautiful birds.

My Christmas card list is now electronic, in my Contacts and Notes section. Passwords are stowed as well. They are all backed up in the Cloud. ( This concept is hard for me to grasp.) I love when my rice and bread have that extra sexy. 😅 Diane you are too much! Glad to see your spice collection too, I was curious if you just make substitutions with your recipes when it calls for a certain spice that you don't keep around? It's funny I watch this today because last night while cooking I got excited to see that my spice bottles were actually getting quite low, spices are one of those things that definitely take up space and aren't always rotating if it's not something one uses a lot. I'm working on sizing down my food supplies and getting a good rotation of basics so Errand Day is so much easier to accomplish in the the grocery. Thank you for sharing!

I picked up that habit from my DDM who was a girl during the 1920's depression and a young adult during WWII rationing. Every jam jar was reused for storage or organizing sewing bits and bobs, screws, nails, etc. until on day, when there was more abundance, the jars were no longer needed but the just-in-case-habit continued out of subconscious fear. What cured me of this inherited habit was cleaning and decluttering her house to sell it when she became I'll. She had saved every bit of string, every twist tie, every bent nail. There were boxes of used gift wrapping paper all neatly folded for future use. My thinking was instantly transformed. I accepted my own abundance and became a ferocious-declutterer. And it took me another 5 years to let go of sentimental knickknacks after she died. But that's another story... 😉👍

Question: you seem to really stress wearing shoes during the day. In my home we don't wear shoes indoor. We have carpet upstairs and downstairs we have rugs. Whenever I wear shoes I find myself needing to put them on and off every time I walk through my living room or to upstairs. I just wear slides in the kitchen. Wearing shoes seems counterproductive, no?

    • @andreaatkinson2251
      @andreaatkinson2251 4 роки тому +4

This is something that a lot of people struggle with when they find Flylady. The way I look at it is those shoes are like a work uniform. It puts your mind into work mode. It really works. I clean much faster when I have my shoes on, and it stops you hurting yourself if there is anything on the floor. I seem to remember Diane saying she has a pair of shoes that she just uses for cleaning. She doesn’t go out of the house in them so they are always clean and then she changes shoes when she goes out. If you try it you might find it works for you, it does for me.

I wear slippers or flipflops indoors most of the time, but shoes that won't fall off when walking backwards with the vacuum or climbing a ladder are much safer for me. I change to outdoor shoes to take out garbage/recycling. I wear gym shoes to go to the shared laundry room because I like to exercise while the washing machine runs. ❤🧺❤
