So I'm working for a tile company that does things old school aka lath and mud. I told them about this system your showing. Its basically a total time saving money making machine they just feel like old school is better. But I figured if I put my paycheck on the Schluter system I won't lose money and in fact help production dubbing wish me luck. Oh I completely agree with the way you tile it's how I learned also. Sweet California frame hammer too. Keep information coming brother awesome work that tile micro fiber sponge is awesome.

You could use any type of 1/2" backer board for this because the entire curb will be covered in waterproofing. We usually use what's most readily available but honestly prefer some type of hardi backer or cement board for the top. .

Years ago when membrane systems started showing up trained tilers would use foam(XPS) to make trays and actually belt sanded and cut them out and covered them in schluter membrane. Do you thi k one could just construct curbs out of foam and wrap them in membrane. I did it once with regular Kerdi cloth. I did it on site and found that I had to clamp the cloth on to get it to make the corners and stay adhered. What do you think?

I cut my kerdi curb down to 2x3 as well. When I set it next to the kerdi tray. The curb isn’t 2 inches taller than the tray. When waterproofing the inside and outside corner. There won’t be a 2 inch over lap between the two corners. I have to cut a slit 1/4 inch down on the inside corner to wrap it on top of the curb. I also have to cut down the outside corner by quite a bit. Will this still be water proof ? I want my curb as low profile as possible. But I’m thinking about rebuilding the curb up by half an inch so I have that 2 inch overlap in corners. What do you think?

I personally have tore out 5 schluter shower installs that have failed myself. Schluter just writes checks to homeowners showers that have failed they don’t even care, they make so much money selling that crap.
