Picked up my 2019 1.6T DCT in 2021. Going from a Honda CRZ 2-seater (~130HP) to this (201HP) was a blast. I even hit 54mpg a few times on my commute to work slightly down hill for 30 miles (although usually around 30mpg avg). Corners very well. Interior much nicer than my CRZ had. The weight to HP ratio is very close to an old 1985 Mercury Capri I had, which was a small powerhouse of a car.
It’s actually a 3 seater with the 4th seat area good for bulky jackets, backpacks, luggage, or gear that you’d rather not store in the back hatch area for some reason (usually easy access to avoid opening the rear hatch to get something, like a can of soda from a small cooler during a 3 person road trip)👍🤔😏😊
Its so sad that they made the Veloster turbo from the second gen be forgotten because the Veloster n is so good. People forget about the turbo witch is about 85% of the Veloster n and its a great car. With simple mods and a tune the Veloster turbo can match the power of the n and you have great exhaust options in the aftermarket for the turbo aswell. Great review!
Yeah, I swear the engine used in the other N models asides from the veloster N, is pretty much a veloster turbo engine that they have gone and done some stuff to it. First discovered this after watching a video comparing the top of the range 2nd gen turbo and the N. It was this video: “Which is the BETTER Hot Hatch to BUY? 2020 Hyundai Veloster N or Veloster Turbo? Raiti's Rides”. The bit where he revs, it sounds similar to the N, just without the pops and bangs
Any one shopping for one right now, go for it if you can get good deal. It is fun and quick enough to have fun. In turns you can almost power slide,espicially in the rain. You will have fun driving this to work and back.
Really great review! I have and daily a 19’ R-Spec and its an absolute blast to drive. The stock exhaust is slightly more aggressive than other trim levels of the Turbo, and it has a stock sports tuned suspension (increased damper rates and an overall stiffer setup) so the thing corners like a go kart and is a pretty good autocross/track day car. Since its pretty rare chances are if you take it to a autocross it will be the only one there. It kind of slots in the same neighborhood as Civic SI, fiesta/focus st, and GTI territory in terms of performance. Btw Borla makes a great axle-back system for this car to get the pops you hear from the N exhaust. Magnaflow makes a cat-back exhaust that’s definitely more aggressive. I went with the Borla so its more easy to live with. Finally the car came with some unique color options such as Sunset Orange and Thunder Gray, both really eye catching colors. Definitely an underrated car
I have the 2020 version of the R-Spec. I bought it new. I love this dumb little car. One review i read at the time said that it has the most smiles per dollar of any car and i cant disagree. I do wish there were more available tuning options.
This reminds me a little bit of my Volvo V60 T6 R-Design with the Polestar tune vs. the actual Polestar. Sure, the full Polestar version is super-rare and extremely cool, but the R-Design is already insanely fast for a wagon, and you only get a minimal performance bump by going with the Polestar.

It’s an awesome hatchback. Just treat it like a two seater and you got tons of room back there.

Velosters are underrated cars. Maybe if it had a normal door arrangement it would have been more popular.
No it wouldn't, a lot of car enthusiasts don't want a Hyundai junk or they only drive Japanese imports.

These cars are enjoyable to drive. I think it's a nice alternative to a Golf. 🤷♂️
I'd rather have the Golf. The Veloster isn't a bad car by any means, but I'd need a little more interior room and four doors.
