You are by FAR, one of the best car reviewers out there. Been following and watching all of your car reviews for a long time. I like the way that you deliver all of the information. You definitely make car buying very easy for everyone. Keep it up and please keep those reviews coming. This car is definitely on my contenders list. I like it.
In Korea, the base engine is a 1.4L turbo that puts out 140hp and about 175ft-lbs torque. It's been on sale here for a little while. Looks really cool!
Just wanted to say THANK YOU for this awesome review. I was very disappointed with my options while car shopping and test driving lately. I had 3 different cars in mind: corolla hatchback (too long of a wait), kia soul (too much for a smaller car with all the options and no spare), Toyota C-HR (underpowered). But I watched this review on Tuesday night, woke up yesterday and took a quick test drive, and a few hours later I drove out with a 2019 fully loaded white and black 2 tone Ultimate Turbo with the white leather interior. I really wanted a manual 2 tone red and black, but I didn't want to wait 4 months for a new car to be ordered. The paddle shifters are cool and the car has lots of power. So far all is great though!! Next week the dealer is putting tint on it, which is gonna look dope with the black top. I really love it so far.
Wow! The Veloster sure has stepped up its game quite a bit for the 2019 model year! I personally can't wait to get my hands on one of these new 2019 Hyundai Veloster's to review. Also, I am absolutely stoked for the upcoming Veloster N Performance model. Spectacular review, as always, Sofyan! 👍🏽
I miss my Veloster turbo......got in a a front end collision with it and everyone came out harmless in 1 piece lol. Definitely one of my favorite cars I've owned.
Test drove this R-Spec about 3 weeks ago and it is an incredible car for the money! Having said that any red-blooded American is going to want to wait and test drive the newest Veloster...the N. Finally got to drive one yesterday...it will blow your mind it is sooooo fun to drive. Amazing appearance, ride, refinement and .....Power! The N is a completely different car. A quantum upgrade. And if you can afford it..at 30K for an N with Performance Package, it is very well worth the money.
Being someone that goes out on weekends with friends all the time I like the 3 door concept I hardly ever use it unless I throw stuff in the back and I never really look at it when I get in my car but its convenient if I have company with me
Seriously considering this as my next buy. Most folks I've seen have said that they do not like the rear of the car. I personally love it, plus the interior.
I thought it was funny seeing your video then seeing Matt Maran as my follow video with the Red 2019 Veloster then watching at around 8:04 Matt in the distance doing an interior shot of the Red Veloster.
alvaro padilla they still have a long way to go. Plenty of people having GDI engines and dual clutch transmissions problems. If anything, I’d have to agree with the other person that said the earlier 2000s model were more reliable.
i owned a 95 lantra when it was new and now i have a 2012 santa fe,but these new models are even better. yes, hyundai has come a long way, especially because it's manufactured in europe and it's oriented more to the european customers which raised the quality
vlajster, Hyundai isn't only just manufactured in europe. There is a huge plant in USA and obviously S. Korea. The newer Hyundai's are a completely different animal now... You should drive a newer model. There is no comparison to the old. It's top notch.
@Chill, which is great as most of the top end models from Hyundai/Kia + Genesis are Made in S. Korea, which I prefer. It just feels more OEM that way if you know what I mean. :)
I'll let ya know when it stops happening to honda, nissan, toyota, or subaru lol. It never stopped for them and it'll never stop for KDM KDM is truely on track to being the new 80s-90's JDM if they play their cards right.
A great review as always, Sofyan. One suggestion: attach the driver's window camera at eye level, rather than where it was. I got claustrophobic trying to look over the wheel, and my first thought was, I'll never be able to see out of this thing.
don't know too much about the other Hyndais, but I bought an Hyndai ATOS 13 years ago and it's still running strong and in good health. Only major problem I had was the catalizator had to be replaced after 12 years.
I know it's a different car ,, but 4 years ago I bought a 2014 Hyundai Elantra se 6 speed manual , I still have it , it's a great car on the highway when its in 6 gear the power is great , smooth handling and control , you think you were in Cadillac, Hyundai underrated
Why some people think, that Veloster came to replace Tiburon? Last year of Tiburon production 2008 and Veloster came in 2011! Actually Genesis Coupe replaced Tiburon. It's came 2009 and both of the in coupe body style, while Veloster is hatchback.
I owned a first gen turbo and loved it. But the driving dynamics were nowhere near as good as my mk7 gti. Really excited to see Hyundai took a big step forward with the independent suspension and reduced wheel hop. I hope they bring back the matte paint option at some point. Can’t wait to see what they did with the N.
Hey Sofyan, would you recommend this new Veloster R-Spec over the Elantra Sport that you reviewed last year? Which car were you more impressed with overall?
You always do an outstanding job, however, when a the comparison is made between 2 different versions, I might be more effective if you could show each generation on a split screen. Anyway, I always enjoy your work. Thank you!
great review, im pretty interested in the r spec manual. how does the clutch engagement feel? i prefer a smooth linear engagement but have driven some cars where it feels like you gotta push the clutch over a hump when pushing it in.
Nice looking black chrome wheels on the R-Spec model, unfortunately the finish will probably last less than a year before it starts peeling. Hyundai has had a lot of issues with the 2017 and 2018 Santa Fe Sport Ultimate models with a similar wheel in which the finish starts peeling off within a year or so. Perhaps they changed the wheel material and paint finish technique on the Veloster wheels, but as usual...time will tell.
I don't understand why Hyundai doesn't offer the tech package with sunroof, nav etc with manual versions of their hatches both this and the GT Sport. They do it right with the Elantra Sport Sedan but not their hatches. This car has good sounds vs the rest of their line up. They need to put that shifter in the GT Sport. Would have been nice to see how you fit in the back seat and look at the cargo area though in fairness I'm sure the dimensions are probably same as it's tiny predecessor.
Speaking of Hyundai sport vehicles, why did the Genesis Coupe stop production? Lost out to the 370? It’d be cool for it to be rebranded under the Genesis luxury brand as the G50 with the option to have Hyundai’s Tau V8.
Well I was just stranded 20miles from my house after I bought a 2013 it turns out it was the starter that was my dream car I returned and got a charger
10:30 This is one problem I seem to always have with Asian cars. While cars designed for someone 5'7" may work in Asia, in Nordic countries most guys are 6' plus. I'm 6'2", and I'm the shortest of everyone in my family aside from my mom and sister. Sometimes they compromise and let you lower your seat, but then your knees stick up high and aren't properly supported. Meanwhile, in the Corvette, despite its low height, they really let you stretch back and angle the seat so that even my brother who is 6'5" fits perfect.
Gabe Pettinicchio An extra edge that will put it over the line. A bit more power, a bit sharper steering, a limited slip diff, etc. all that should be offered when the N version arrives later this year.
Can’t wait to get rid of my ‘14 rspec. The shifter is horrible. Just doesn’t feel nice on about every shift . The headliner and my passenger seat rattles and the dealer wants to charge me a ridiculous fee to fix them. Gets outran every time at the stoplight. Interior quality is covered in plastic. I’m saving for the next gen WRX STI and selling the rspec
Awesome review as usual, and judging from your comments in the video your pick list in this segment goes (first to last) gti then veloster then si (omitting st, cooper s, and wrx)?
chameleonfps Sounds about right! The Si and Veloster are so close. If Honda would just increase the Si’s power closer to GTI levels and make the engine sound more exciting it could go the other way though.
This car finally got a refreshed design. Love it. Edit: what I love even more is the independent rear suspension, somewhat short gearing, and high quality feel. I absolutely hate the new infotainment system however (very few knobs or buttons) and the "safety features" that come standard. Both of these things should be optional. I picked up my 2018 Elantra Sport MT Friday and I absolutely love it.
KingGhoul 21 i have one too. The exhaust sounds waaay more aggressive than the Veloster Turbo
Yeesss I'm very impressed with the exhaust for such a small engine
I miss my Veloster turbo......got in a a front end collision with it and everyone came out harmless in 1 piece lol. Definitely one of my favorite cars I've owned.

FINALLY A REVIEW WORTH WATCHING. Hopefully you review the n model as well!!!
Seriously considering this as my next buy. Most folks I've seen have said that they do not like the rear of the car. I personally love it, plus the interior.
Rebel X just bought one yesterday, its dope AF.
I thought it was funny seeing your video then seeing Matt Maran as my follow video with the Red 2019 Veloster then watching at around 8:04 Matt in the distance doing an interior shot of the Red Veloster.
7:55 is that Matt filming his review?
Still own my 2012 Hyundai veloster 1.6 GDI sports package .. I love this car .
Hyundai has come a very long way
alvaro padilla they still have a long way to go. Plenty of people having GDI engines and dual clutch transmissions problems. If anything, I’d have to agree with the other person that said the earlier 2000s model were more reliable.

iunlock guru that's true but the Veloster is only manufactured in S. Korea. And the next gen will also be.
@Chill, which is great as most of the top end models from Hyundai/Kia + Genesis are Made in S. Korea, which I prefer. It just feels more OEM that way if you know what I mean. :)
I wonder how long Honda had to deal with the idiots saying "it's still a Honda" when they started cranking out great cars.
I'll let ya know when it stops happening to honda, nissan, toyota, or subaru lol. It never stopped for them and it'll never stop for KDM
KDM is truely on track to being the new 80s-90's JDM if they play their cards right.
That dark silver color looks really good
19:50 did sofyan say the screen can turn off & flip down? I wanna see that.
Suitable replacement for the Fiesta ST, since the FiST is getting discontinued
Yep, sadly true. Turned in my ST lease a couple weeks ago. Beginning to wish I’d kept it. Great little car.
My 2014 green envy FiST has been solid minus blend door tick on startup, but no big deal. It only has 37k miles and plan to keep for a long time.
Love this car. Very happy they added irs on this update. Cannot wait for the N version
A great review as always, Sofyan. One suggestion: attach the driver's window camera at eye level, rather than where it was. I got claustrophobic trying to look over the wheel, and my first thought was, I'll never be able to see out of this thing.
best veloster 2019 review right now !
don't know too much about the other Hyndais, but I bought an Hyndai ATOS 13 years ago and it's still running strong and in good health. Only major problem I had was the catalizator had to be replaced after 12 years.
Wow I love the new design of this Veloster
I love sporty hatchbacks so this was a curiosity to me, great review as always!
Not gonna lie, as soon as you mentioned Austin...I was searching for landmarks.
Wanna race my Kia koup why did they get rid of the koup I work for the transmission maker and I don’t understand it
8:50, it won't burn your hand if you ware cut off gloves like you're suppose to when riding a stick shift.
Best part is if you wait a year or two the resale value will have dropped down to almost free.
I just timed your 0-60 run at 6.9 seconds. That’s actually not bad for being just flooring from zero
Never disappoint me with your work Redline! Keep it up! Got a loyal subscriber!
Hyundai's newer cars seems to be doing really well. I am always in general impressed with their design
Yes because my mom just got her brand new 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe. And they did since a very good job with it.
Would like to see how this model fairs in a front end collision
I know it's a different car ,, but 4 years ago I bought a 2014 Hyundai Elantra se 6 speed manual , I still have it , it's a great car on the highway when its in 6 gear the power is great , smooth handling and control , you think you were in Cadillac, Hyundai underrated
Maybe I missed it but why did he show the outside of a Turbo Limited then the inside of a R Spec ?
So that's where my grey donated sweat hoodie went.
i thought gen coupe was the successor to the tiburon?
Sam Sheth Nope, Genesis coupe was designed to be a higher end model bc it was RWD and was priced much higher.
Redline Reviews oh ok
Alyceo Perez is gen couple discontinued ?
I’ve seen a blue one with manufacturer’s plates driving around Long Beach.
Still own my 2017 turbo! Maybe it's time for an upgrade?🤔
RS1 I have the turbo model with the Dual clutch transmission
Really the only difference is weight and size. The elantra is bigger and of course is better if youre gonna have passengers.
No. Keep the old. This new design is pure shat
TheCR1T1CALM4SS aggre I hate the rear the most
Aaron Glisson if you want to sell it to me I'm your guy!
Why some people think, that Veloster came to replace Tiburon? Last year of Tiburon production 2008 and Veloster came in 2011! Actually Genesis Coupe replaced Tiburon. It's came 2009 and both of the in coupe body style, while Veloster is hatchback.
2016 R-spec owner, i like the changes Hyundai made to the interior but its doesn't scream upgrade now. At least until the Veloster N drops.
Rented one in Singapore. Rear view mirror came off in my hand. Gas door remote stuck too.
Is a hard touch dashboard really that big of a deal? How often do you touch the dash that it needs to be soft touch?
Please do the Hyundai kona turbo!
6:47 watch rebooting?
These are slick little cars, always impressed by them being from Hyundai!
Nice Review Of 2019 Hyundai Veloster R-Spec. 😁
Have you ever been pulled over while filming?
is it launch in India?
How plasticy are those interior?. They worth the price?
So they got rid of the 'fabric' like dash/door trim of the original model?
...does the transmission still shatter as easily as the sunroof...?...
They should have gone with the 2.4 liter motor non Turbo for the base model
looks nice overall, but not a fan of how the rear tail lights extend so far towards the front
I like this review format the most
I owned a first gen turbo and loved it. But the driving dynamics were nowhere near as good as my mk7 gti. Really excited to see Hyundai took a big step forward with the independent suspension and reduced wheel hop. I hope they bring back the matte paint option at some point. Can’t wait to see what they did with the N.
Can someone help me out. Getting a new car and wondering if I should switch to a manual as my daily. Any suggestions?
How reliable are these cars?
Hey Sofyan, would you recommend this new Veloster R-Spec over the Elantra Sport that you reviewed last year? Which car were you more impressed with overall?
Matt Matt this is 5sec faster in 0 to 200km acceleration time. thats faster than stinger and g70
Unique? For Fusion front grille? Or is it Aston Martin?
When was this shot?!? I live right down the street in Round Rock. 🤠
Sounds surprisingly good on the inside. Reminds me of a WRX sound.
Welcome to Texas bro it gets really hot down here and nice review as always
This or the elantra gt sport or the Soul! Turbo? They're all related in some way and each does it slightly different...what's the aftermarket like?
This car will be amazing in 5-10 years once the aftermarket industry gets its hands on it. But I'll keep my current VT for a few years more 😊
Looks....hot! I like it! Great review as always Sofyan, keep up the excellent work!
“It’s really hot here in Texas it’s about 90°” just wait until summer lmfao
This or the GT Sport? You should do a comparison!
RNWY I second this.
I’m shopping and I’m stuck between the Veloster Turbo and the ElantraGT Sport.
No R-Spec in Canada, so sad 😢
Same for myself! Also looking at the Golf and civic hatch as well.
I personally own the GT Sport, I love the space, but I do want the Veloster N
Jan Michael Sy I think the exhaust note of the ElantraGT Sport wins my heart over the veloster.
Are you in the San Antonio or the Austin area?
You always do an outstanding job, however, when a the comparison is made between 2 different versions, I might be more effective if you could show each generation on a split screen. Anyway, I always enjoy your work. Thank you!
Maybe I'm just getting old, but your driving scares me! lol
Cool car though, I like it!
Mario Gillette 😂😂😂😂😭😭 thats hilarious!!!!
Weird for you to say that, as Asians are usually known for their excellent careful driving.
DumbDuck44 have you been to any asian country? They be crashing mercades into each other mad road rage. (Pakistan, turkey, china, Philippines etc.)
great review, im pretty interested in the r spec manual. how does the clutch engagement feel? i prefer a smooth linear engagement but have driven some cars where it feels like you gotta push the clutch over a hump when pushing it in.
I can only imagine how easily those gloss black rims on the R Spec can get scratched
Which is faster ? New Si or New veloster turbo ? Which would you recommend ?
Si is faster
What felt quicker? The Auto or 6spd manual? The manual seemed to be a bit quicker
That looks like Matt Maran in the background recording/ reviewing that red one across the way there lol.
Nice looking black chrome wheels on the R-Spec model, unfortunately the finish will probably last less than a year before it starts peeling. What about rear seat headroom test?

Great review. Please advice the music album name in the background.
Can you get leather interior on the manual turbo?
Any plans on moving to 4k?
I wish they did that styling on a sedan, the front but just a normal sedan back
Speaking of Hyundai sport vehicles, why did the Genesis Coupe stop production? Lost out to the 370? It’d be cool for it to be rebranded under the Genesis luxury brand as the G50 with the option to have Hyundai’s Tau V8.
Cameron Cruz the Genesis G70 replaced the Genesis coupe.
TVinmyEye how? The G70 is a sedan, no?
Cameron Cruz they are supposedly making a genesis coupe.
Tried to shazam the intro song, name song or artist?
Not sure how I feel about the back on the 2nd Gen
Beautiful car I can't wait to see what the car community can do to this car. :) I love seeing what people do to these cars.
Good job matching your watch to the car
Well I was just stranded 20miles from my house after I bought a 2013 it turns out it was the starter that was my dream car I returned and got a charger

How is this car only a "nearly" hot hatch. What is it missing?
Gabe Pettinicchio An extra edge that will put it over the line. A bit more power, a bit sharper steering, a limited slip diff, etc. all that should be offered when the N version arrives later this year.
Can’t wait to get rid of my ‘14 rspec. The shifter is horrible. Just doesn’t feel nice on about every shift . chameleonfps Sounds about right! The Si and Veloster are so close. If Honda would just increase the Si’s power closer to GTI levels and make the engine sound more exciting it could go the other way though.
The hottest thing out of Korea since Gochujang sauce.
What camera did you use to record this review?
Very nice keyfob as well looks nice and bulky and not too plasticky
This car finally got a refreshed design. Love it.
Edit: what I love even more is the independent rear suspension, somewhat short gearing, and high quality feel. I absolutely hate the new infotainment system however (very few knobs or buttons) and the "safety features" that come standard. Both of these things should be optional. Also, the engine sound should be able to be turned off.
What ever happened to the forte koup??
Dead.
It got Killed In Action
Drove the last generation as a rental. It was a fun little car! Too bad about the interior materials though, otherwise this could be a contender.
Great review and well done Hyundai!!
I'm not surprised they moved it over to the I30/elentraGT platform. After all, it does support the I30N already. It's an obvious choice considering the Veloster N is next.
Excited for the N release, hopefully it's as affordable as most Hyundais. I expect it to be high(er) of course, just not Civic R $. Around 29k base, an extra few K for performance pack 🤞.
I'm not surprised the GTI has a more responsive DCT, it's also around 5k more.
I like the new Veloster turbo it still has it's quirky looks but looks more grown up now and I still like the Elantra gt sport and sport sedan plus the Veloster n model
