This is exactly what I've been looking for, so many videos on what a class does or race does or can do. None of those video tell me how I should go about "actually" playing the game. Amazing work and I'm looking forward to more.
I'll try to keep it coming! I kind of felt similar to you that when I went to find videos it's usually just someone talking with some cutscenes playing and I have to imagine the scenarios, but I prefer to see exactly what someone is saying so I tried to create that myself.
Your videos are increadible. Apart from Aestus, I think you are the only UA-camr covering BG3, where I actually learn something and it is not just "this is what this class does in the PHB"
Is it bad I don't even know what PHB means lol I didn't play much DND. I just played an absolute ton of Divinity and the Early Access of Baldur's Gate. Had a ton of fun just trying random stuff and learning it and every time I showed a friend they'd be mindblown so I was like lets try showing others I guess
@@ProxyGateTactician PHB is the abbreviation for Players Handbook, which is the core book of fifth edition dnd. Later, we got expansions, and some of the subclasses are from other books (Gloomstalkers come from Xanathars Guide to Everything etc), but in general, the game adopted all the PHB subclasses, races, spells and feats. Yes, I think your opinion is interesting to me, since I never really played divinity, so I know some of the dnd stuff, but none of the Larian specific things.

I don't know if the game is also available there, but I will have a look and then play :) Any recommendations for a first playthrough? Should I play as an origin character or Tav, and if origin, which is the most interesting story in your opinion?
@@ThwipThwipBoom It was a life changer as far as RPG's went. The amount of stuff u could do in that game was unreal and now BG3 is like 1-upping it at every level. I have to agree with you
This is a true tip video. All the others I've seen are talking about basic surface level content that anyone played the EA already know... you have so much stuff I had no idea was possible in this game.
lol It's an old divinity trick! But in the game it would cost you 2 action points moving it and 1 action point moving (U only got 4 per turn unless lone wolf) so it wasn't really viable most of the time.
You can group/ungroup your party members by clicking the button below their pictures on the left called group/ungroup. You can also chain them together. Great for splitting the party (rogue scouting/sneaking, or moving the ranged characters to a high spot while the melee charge in).
Straight up, absolute best "Wish I knew" video I've seen yet; and I've watched 4 to 5 others. Of them, their 90% full of crap you learn in in the tutorial or the first hour of gameplay. This video was pure gold. 👍
these vids are far, very far beyond the usual tips n tricks that are posted everywhere. having played BG3 from the onset, i'm floored to see that there are still incredibly useful undiscovered tips. many thanks for the work. please keep em coming.
Loads of awesome things in here I was not aware of, appreciated. Particularly liked the cat bomb, the chest tip (sending to camp), the mage hand cantrip stuff and how to block vents - I could not work that out at all but now know you can drag items about. Doh. :) The only thing that might be handy that I don't think was in this video was the "Send to Wares" option on items in the inventory. This means you can go to a trader and Barter then just sell all the marked items in one shot and not have a drag and drop nightmare. That's probably obvious to most people but it took me ages to realise that this is what this was for in EA. 4 more sleeps....... :D
So glad I saw this! First Baldurs Gate gate for me and my brains still trying to get wrapped around the fact we can do basically anything! Getting to both see and hear you explain these things is great for my poor little overwhelmed brain (and hilarious, that tower of babble with boxes is amazing!)! Beyond being helpful this has given me some new motivation for some of the puzzles that have me a little stuck, thank you!
And thank you for the nice comment Plantriarchy. It was so much fun building that tower too haha The game feels so similar to Divinity for me that it’s been a blast and quick to pick up. You’ll get there soon
Fantastic video. Quickly running through things, showing good examples on screen, not teaching basic stuff as though it were a master skill; excellent service.
This is the first tips and tricks video that was actually good. I have learned most of this over my 20 hours in game so far but there was a couple new things
It helps that I am the opposite of you I think. I'll be doing a playthrough with RL friends who know 5E, but not Larian though so should be interesting.
Wow, I've watched dozens of videos about BG3 for the last month, but those 10 minutes were more useful than 80% of them. What a great amount of tips. THANKS !!
I wish someone had told me: That health potions, health spells and just any scrolls are PLENTIFUL, from beginning to end. Even scrolls of spells you already have will avoid using up valuable spell slots esp in the first act. When I started I was super careful and played combat cautiously as I was afraid to get hit. I didn’t realize there is no penalty to short rests, revivifty scrolls are everywhere, withers can bring people back and it’s not nearly as fun to play like that. Now, once I realized that scrolls, potions s and health aren’t a precious commodity, I just cast AOE spells, even if I might hit. I cast fireball at oil and fire wine barrels left and right and maybe take a few hits but kill a ton of kobolds. It’s way more fun, way more hilarious, and this game doesnt need to be all serious min/max business. EVERY class, even pure non multiclassed, every race is viable, and theme/roleplqy builds are WAY more fun than DPS builds. It’s kind of fun to give yourself only theme spells and have to work around it versus just all the most damage dealing ones. It forces you to think and act creatively and not lean on just one party memeber or setup for damage. Use the environment. There’s so much cool stuff to do. Don’t let combat stress you out. There’s nothing wrong with going explorer mode for your first or every playthrough. If you don’t learn to have fun with combat even if you’re not good at it then the whole game will be a slog. You might die, you might lose some hp, you might have a TPK and have to start over and oh well. Nothing is precious. Loot and weapons are everywhere, scrolls and health everywhere. And don’t be overlook alchemy. Those are my tips from a newbie who didkt and still doesn’t know much but still has tons of successful fun playthroughs on every difficulty. Don’t spend hours on UA-cam looking for builds. Go with what you like and have fun.
Damn, okay. The hotkeys are one of the things I have mastered, but that's mostly bc I'm lazy and I know the power of them after having used Photoshop for the past 20 years. But the backpack on your hotbar? Bro, fucking GENIUS. You should get a Nobel for that one alone. 🙏🏼
For sure. The power plus it makes the game just feel better to play and less janky once you know them. Backpack thing is an old divinity 2 trick I used to use
Ray of frost is also good for putting out those fire areas. You can cast it and fire bolt right on the ground to create or remove an area. For instance, you can use fire bolt on an enemy grease spell to burn the grease away and then ray of frost to extinguish the flames.
Another tip. You can throw healing potions at allies (in a group) to heal them all up. If you just revived someone its a great use of your bonus action it gives them that much more of a buffer when they get up.
@@ravenspe healing, poison. the spell slot one may be single atrget i.e dont let it hit the ground. honestly for spell castors just move it to their inventory, only a bonus action to use. usually they wont be using a bonus action.
A tip I learned is that you can initiate a trade with most NPCs in the game (it’s not exclusive to vendors, blacksmiths, etc.). You’ll need to talk with the NPC then look towards the lower left UI and click on the trade icon. 😁
This is the most useful Balder's Gate video that I've watched so far! Thank you! I'm very familiar with dnd 5e rules, but this is my first Baldur's Gate game. I just got started yesterday. I was frustrated because it seemed like there should be more things I could do in exploration and combat. The game really doesn't provide any explanation of the features until you're already using them. The hotkeys section of this video answered so many of my questions. I really appreciate the clear understandable answers and actual in-game testing that demonstrates the practical application of these skills.
No problem! Glad I was able to help. I made it from the mind of a divinity 2 player and having almost no knowledge of dnd5e and It’s been mostly dnd people commenting it was useful for them so it’s been interesting
Thank you for the Video. These are some seriously good tips. I have(last I checked)370Hrs in EA and I just learned a few new things I honestly did not know or even consider. Peace
Glad to hear! I've tried to hit a balance between giving tips for veterans and also for beginners and looks like I can usually share a few that almost no one else was aware of. I'm sure you've got some secrets of your own at that many hours.
I also just started making BG3 content, and I must bow to you. These are actually unknown extremely useful tips, even if I have 200 hours. I don't know how you have time to record all these specific clips, I am super impressed
I think I spent around 70 hours on a 10 minute video so I don't recommend it at all lol I didn't plan to have this many specific clips but after writing it I just felt like ok I need this and this and this and this. Thanks though and good luck on your content too. I'll check it out!
@@ProxyGateTactician Holy shit, I suspected it was a crazy amount of hours, but damn. I just got a new computer for this game, but I have a full time job and I'm spending most of my vacation away from it. Don't burn yourself out!
@@Zalamancer I recently moved countries and so my visa limited my work hours to 20 a week. This is a way I can be productive and also share my passion I believe. I’m happy with it
This is an amazing example of how to do a tips & tricks video. I'd love to see you do a video entirely about the ways in which combat rewards creativity over DPS. Since BG3 is getting way more mainstream attention than most CRPGS, I think a lot of new players won't even consider the possibilities of combining various spells or taking advantage of environments. You touch upon many of those things in this video, but dedicated coverage on the subject (with examples) from someone with your knowledge and excellent communication skills would be really interesting. Perhaps something like "top 10 ways utility spells break the game" video would gain traction with the algo?
Been thinking about that sort of thing for sure. The twin spell sorc casting haste is easily my number 1. Budding two party members with extra actions for 10 turns is crazy strong. I am playing a sorc with a fighter and paladin it’s so damn strong
I don’t remember seeing it in this video, but a very underrated shortcut to know is for grouping and ungrouping the party, default hotkey is “g”. Especially useful if you’re doing a lot of sneaking around, or if you want to force your party to take (pretty much required) damage like jumping down from somewhere and taking fall damage if there’s no “safe” place to jump, or making them run through hazards if they can’t jump far enough. It can help a lot with positioning too; do it before a fight, position everyone how you want so they’re not grouped, have the big damage martial classes on the front line closer to the enemy etc. instead of your party being clustered together at the start of every fight which makes you more susceptible to AoE effects/attacks
Yeah I use it all the time! I had it in there, but I didn’t highlight it in the hotkey section and my accent made it sound like another word haha a lot of people commented about that
I loveeee that we can fast travel from ANYWHERE not just at waypoints. I wanted to escape from the Goblin camp but did not want to face the goblins outside! There's so much to learn and experiment and that's what makes this game so addicting
This video has useful information (things that other people did not cover seems like) but also funny which makes it easier for me to make focussed. Thanks and keep it up!
The bag tip is very useful hopefully larian or mods in the future allow us to label the bags we carry so we know whats in what without looking for stuff for too long.
In Divinity 2 they actually added it to the base game in their own "Mod" pack, but they added it in such a way it was incredibly annoying. Every single item u looted would go into one of like 15 pre-labeled bags that you could never figure out where the item went. It became a meme in the community that if you turned that feature on then you bricked your save file because it couldn't be turned back off.
@@ProxyGateTacticianhopefully they didnt get brain damage since then, and could just allow us to "nickname" a bag. Like 1 backpack says "Potions n stuffs" and the other one says "ducks and potatoes" so I can know where I'm gonna stash my potions, and ducks.
I think dip is very useful and is underused. Also, placing a candle or torch on the ground by your party prior to a fight and then using that to dip weapons into is a good tactic.
I put 100 hours into the Beta on release... I wasn't expecting actual niche tips like this that I still didn't know after 100+ hours of gameplay. Unreal video. Definitely favoriting this vid and coming back to it for reminders.
lol I kinda felt like that too, but was like there are 9 main topics so I'll label it that way. I originally had more sections, but felt like enough people had covered them already.
First time I'm doing at launch is going through those hotkeys to double check if they added anymore new ones. G and Shift+C were SO much better than the way they worked in Divinity
I've been trolling UA-cam for years now and your channel is 1 of 9 that I've actually subscribed to. How do you do so well and only have 2 videos on your channel? Your editing is excellent. You include timestamps. You don't add unnecessary fluff. The content and information you are presenting is unique and helpful to ALL players. Nothing feels like "click bait". If this is a secondary or "do-over" channel then clearly you paid attention the first time around and are doing it right. If this is genuinely your first attempt then you REALLY paid attention and came out swinging.
@@aldoushuxley5953 You gotta play DOS2 one day before you die, it's an unforgettable experience. I'm actually jealous you've never played it before because that means you still get to experience it for the first time unlike me. lol
@@ThwipThwipBoom I bought it, but my PC was just too bad and it did not work. Now, I bought a Geforce now subscription for BG3.
I don't know if the game is also available there, but I will have a look and then play :)
Any recommendations for a first playthrough? Should I play as an origin character or Tav, and if origin, which is the most interesting story in your opinion?
@@ThwipThwipBoom It was a life changer as far as RPG's went. The amount of stuff u could do in that game was unreal and now BG3 is like 1-upping it at every level. I have to agree with you
This is a true tip video. All the others I've seen are talking about basic surface level content that anyone played the EA already know... you have so much stuff I had no idea was possible in this game.
I like how you removed a barricade, walked out, shoot, take cover again and put back the barricade in one turn 7:03.
lol It's an old divinity trick!
Glad to hear I could find things for people who have been playing it long term as well.
probably the best tips and tricks video for this game ive seen. No one has covered what you have.
Loads of awesome things in here I was not aware of, appreciated. Particularly liked the cat bomb, the chest tip (sending to camp), the mage hand cantrip stuff and how to block vents - I could not work that out at all but now know you can drag items about. Doh. :)
The only thing that might be handy that I don't think was in this video was the "Send to Wares" option on items in the inventory.
It was so much fun building that tower too haha
The game feels so similar to Divinity for me that it’s been a blast and quick to pick up. You’ll get there soon
120h on the clock and still you found new tips for me. Great explaining amazing editing. This channel gonna be my bible. Looking forward more videos
That Cat portion is so good. Larian made Stray in BG3.
That part looked really nice in 2x speed I noticed
Fantastic video. Quickly running through things, showing good examples on screen, not teaching basic stuff as though it were a master skill; excellent service.
This is the first tips and tricks video that was actually good. I have learned most of this over my 20 hours in game so far but there was a couple new things
Thank you!! I've done a couple other ones as well, but I appreciate you saying this.
@@ProxyGateTactician I'll check them out!
Good stuff. 👍🏻
I'm an expert with 5e, but a noob with Larian games. These were great tips to prepare people like me for those differences.
THANKS !!
Glad I could help you!
I wish someone had told me:
That health potions, health spells and just any scrolls are PLENTIFUL, from beginning to end.
😂 Dude just went so far beyond anyone's expectations breaking not only the game mechanics down, but possibly tip guides as well. Thanks man!!!
Awesome editing and tips. Even had some in there I didn't know.
I'll watch you over all these other BG3 creators any day.
Take care friend
This is your second video??!!! Almost 400,000 views, and so very well deserved. Well delivered, informative content, with no fuss or filler. Subbed.
Thank you!
You not just gave tips and tricks in a bundle, but broadened different strategies everyone can (and should) employ. This is awesome!
Man.... I've been playing for 100 hours and I did not know any of this tips... Sad times... Up coming happy ones.
Terran Music worked great with the video's pacing. Much love!
Ray of frost is also good for putting out those fire areas. You can cast it and fire bolt right on the ground to create or remove an area. For instance, you can use fire bolt on an enemy grease spell to burn the grease away and then ray of frost to extinguish the flames.
Im played and finished EA BG3 once. and this video still game me some good tips. thank you.
Another tip. You can throw healing potions at allies (in a group) to heal them all up. If you just revived someone its a great use of your bonus action it gives them that much more of a buffer when they get up.
You can throw as an action, not bonus, but yes, throwing potions is fine to heal ranged.
and it's an aoe heal on top, instead of healing only 1 person, you can heal more than 1 if you bunch them up
@@imblackmagic1209yeah forgot too add that because it does take an action but 1 potion can heal your whole team to full if its a high enough level
Only healing potions? I tried this with another potion, trying to give an ally level II spell slot and it just hit the ground doing nothing.
@@ravenspe healing, poison. the spell slot one may be single atrget i.e dont let it hit the ground. honestly for spell castors just move it to their inventory, only a bonus action to use. usually they wont be using a bonus action.
an actually good tips video :) the bag for scrolls on the bar makes sense
Glad you thought so too
A tip I learned is that you can initiate a trade with most NPCs in the game (it’s not exclusive to vendors, blacksmiths, etc.). You’ll need to talk with the NPC then look towards the lower left UI and click on the trade icon. 😁
Waaaait a minuuuuute! I'm so tempted to just leave work, try that, and come back later 🤣🤣🤣 damned, now I gotta check EVERYOOONE 😬
Fantastic!
That backpack in hotbar trick is amazing. Never have thought about that.
Your videos are the most useful tips for BG3 that I’ve ever found
Glad you think so!
This should be called tips and tricks for your fourth playthrough. This just overwhelmed me.
Amazing video quality, I've watched both your videos today. Still amazed they are your first two
Thanks so much! Good to hear people are enjoying them. I put a ton of time into them to be honest.
Wow, ive been playing < 3 days and this is actually new info. Most of these videos are like "use elixers and scrolls to be better!". Thanks
PGT: "You can autoloot using spacebar."
Me, rocking out to the Terran music: "I feel like I'm _in_ a space bar."
The music is just too damn good. What can I say?
Wow the Githyanki Psyonic Mage Hand being different to (and better than) regular Mage Hand is something I never knew
It took me a while to notice too. It’s pretty interesting and I wonder if it’s intended
:There are things you can do that are not clearly spelled out to the players: is a massive understatement
This is a great refresher for the release.
I also just started making BG3 content, and I must bow to you. These are actually unknown extremely useful tips, even if I have 200 hours. I don't know how you have time to record all these specific clips, I am super impressed
I think I spent around 70 hours on a 10 minute video so I don't recommend it at all lol
I didn't plan to have this many specific clips but after writing it I just felt like ok I need this and this and this and this.
I’m happy with it
wow - I am 300 hours into EA and you still taught me lots of useful tips, great job and great video.
9:13 placing a severed head on a trap to disable it, is prob the most metal thing in a video game that i have seen.
Haha you're the first one to comment about it. I wasn't sure if people noticed what it was!
For sure! it was same in divinity 2 and it took me like a year to realize that
this is the only tips video that had actual tips in it that I've seen so far. nice one
Glad my tips were useful for you
This video has useful information (things that other people did not cover seems like) but also funny which makes it easier for me to make focussed. Thanks and keep it up!
Really nice video! I've played a fair amount of early access, but there were some good tips in here, cheers!
Glad I could help!
The explosive cat, stabbing potions, and moving boxes to block doorways/obscure during the turn was new to me. Great vid dude
Right! In Divinity it took 2 action points to move items during your turn. So I wouldn't be surprised if they patch that one eventually
9 different playthroughs and this was one of the most informative videos ive watched. You did great, keep up the good work
I think dip is very useful and is underused. Also, placing a candle or torch on the ground by your party prior to a fight and then using that to dip weapons into is a good tactic.
Thanks man, I learned a LOT with your video! Keep having fun!
This is a really good video with actually useful tips. Thanks for the info!
Glad it was helpful!
oh my god the group hide function is amazing, thank you so much, ive been pressing f1-f4 for each partymember to individually hide!
One day I’m gonna go back and play DoS2 again and suffer without that feature lol
I put 100 hours into the Beta on release... I wasn't expecting actual niche tips like this that I still didn't know after 100+ hours of gameplay. Unreal video. Definitely favoriting this vid and coming back to it for reminders.
Glad I could help!
I have 270 hours in this game and I still learned stuff from this video. Thanks, man!
Can't wait for you to make more content on this game! (Or others)
Thanks! I’ll be sticking to baldurs gate for a long time. Eventually adding in storm gate and maybe other games along the way
this was more like 99 tips 😮 great video! didn't know most of these even though I've played the early access and divinity!
lol I kinda felt like that too, but was like there are 9 main topics so I'll label it that way. I originally had more sections, but felt like enough people had covered them already.
I had no idea about shift-C, this will save me lots of time compared to getting everybody to sneak individually...
First time I'm doing at launch is going through those hotkeys to double check if they added anymore new ones. G and Shift+C were SO much better than the way they worked in Divinity
Punching a potion to apply it to the whole group is just genius.
I look forward to referencing your budding library as I fight my way through what looks to be Larian's masterpiece for a long time to come.
Thanks so much for the long comment weezle! I actually did do a channel about 4 years ago, but only for 4 months. I then had some IRL stuff come up and had to quit... That time I had a similiar experience to how this channel is going.
So I had wanted a fresh start and was curious to see if it was luck or if it was something I can do if I put my mind to it.
@@ProxyGateTactician you may have found your passion.
I've been consuming a ton of BG3 content to cope with the wait for release and your videos are consistently the best content to consume, and there's only two of them so far. Can't wait to see this channel blow up.
PGT is the G.O.A.T. of tips. Your creativity in battle, your visual examples, and your quick explanations are amazing man. I liked, subbed, and belled you!
It's been 6 months since I played BG3. This was a great reminder video on the tools this game has.
Dude, you're a beast! So many great tips! Keep up the good work! 👏👏👏
Glad to hear! It's exciting to put in a lot of effort and get a positive response like this.
This channel looks like it will be an amazing resource for all BG3 players, but especially those who know dnd but need game specific tips. An easy sub!
I think it’s because I honestly don’t know DND that well, but know Larian games haha thanks for the comment Garion
From your other video I'd subbed and turned notifs on because you have such genuinely interesting things to say (and with good presentation). Saw the notif for this video and was like "wait who is that again" and clicked, 10/10 glad I turned notifs on for your channel lol.
You're gonna grow faaaaaaaast with videos like this where it's not just a generic list of commonly known things but rather truly neat info. Def keeping notifs on!
Great video.
Loved the comedy in the editing.
Thanks. Good to hear the subtle comedy I try work in is noticed.
Another great video. Keep em coming!
More to come!
This may have been THE most useful BG3 video I've seen, period.
This is exactly the type of nuanced advice that will make a meaningful (even if subtle) impact during my adventure.
Thank you very much!
Chief's kiss level info just from two videos. Outstanding!
Super useful guides dude. Keep em coming 🤘
Glad to hear lol I'll try
Turn based mode note should cause ANYONE to instantly subscribe to your channel. SUPER helpful
So TAB is how you open everyone’s inventory at once! Gods, that makes giving all the loot to the Charisma character for merchant-selling much easier…
Yeah I don't know why I didn't mention that in the Hotkey section, but I'm glad you picked it up from my voice saying it earlier.
I only started playing this game. I literally know nothing about dnd or this game so i learned alot. Thank you
Super helpful. Thank you very much for your effort! Keep it up
