      The thing about jumping over ground effects is something I learned by watching the comp do it.
      I play as a Wizard. My favorite spell is grease- especially at low levels. Even if the enemy doesn't slip, it counts as difficult terrain and still gives you as useful advantage. And worse comes to worse, you can always ignite it.
      But then I got to the goblin fort and they all started just jumping over it. I ended up switching over to a combo with Shadowheart where she'd rain on their parade and then I'd freeze them. Not ideal, but it makes a large enough field were they can't just decide to hop over it usually. (though admittedly, most gobs have a decent dex save.)

    One way I figured out how to steal things is to have someone in your party (person A) distract a npc by almost stealing, then use someone else (person B) to do the real stealing behind them. If you leave the person A in place the npc will stare at you for a long time expecting you to try and steal again.

    I bought the game a while ago but have purposely not played it because I didn't want to be bored with the first act when it went to full release and see everything for the first time in it's finished state. I know that there are going to be lots of things that I will be behind the curve with because of it but this video is very welcome because I knew you could use the environment but I had no idea that it was to this extent. I likely would have never even thought about a good portion of the examples that you showed in the video so, Thank You. There are going to be endless "build" videos out there but if you keep up with doing less commonly covered things like this I can see your channel doing well. This is exactly the type of video that exemplifies what D&D has always been about, thinking outside the box to find a solution to your problem.

      I think it´s fine to leave as-is. Only a madman will try to do something like that consistently, and it´s nice to have the freedom to do it if you just want to experiment/mess around. It´s up to the player if they want to cheese the game or not.
      On a different note, to "realistically" fix this, they could add a weight limit to objects. Basically how much they can have stacked on top of them before they start taking damage. Which I believe already works for some traps, like that one log bridge near the swamp. (It´s been a while.) But it would be a pain to code it for every item, with no real benefit. (In my opinion.)

    • @Nyierm
      @Nyierm Рік тому +2

      Just leave it alone. In Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2 you also could throw boxes and barrels at enemies, but the weight influenced the damage. So there were people carrying a box in their inventory with tons of weight and instant killing bosses.
      They never changed it, but still, it's too inconvenient to carry lots of boxes to throw/pile. Most people that did that in DOS were doing challenges, speedrun or just bullshitting the game for fun.

    • @FrogworfKnight
      @FrogworfKnight Рік тому

      @@MiyataIchiro2410 I mean you have to admit, there are at least two encounters in the underdark that can absolutely wipe a party early on. One of which seems to be a random encounter even and had a habit of tossing 1 or 2 of my characters into a chasm after knocking them prone just from appearing (and it is at least somewhat random as it can appear in more than one place it seems... Surprised the hell out of me, though the second place I got it was a bit more to my advantage due to dumb AI). And being knocked prone is unfortunately part of the warning that its coming. That basically set my expectations of what I going to be facing in the underdark and made me take the game so much slower (probably would have taken my time with taking on the goblins, but I wasn't certain about procuring more camp supplies early on and whether or not there was a time limit for helping the tieflings *note there is, but its rather generous it seems*).
      As for tips to not die in the underdark... Do everything you can beside the mountain pass (the mountain pass is roughly on par with the underdark in terms of challenge I think, with one area you are forced to visit if you don't want to lose a certain character). There are quests in SO many places in this game. I am nearing the end of act 2 right now and I looked up some Act 1 stuff and I can safely say I missed about half a dozen events (some of which due to rushing the goblin event, though one of the quests I missed would have severely helped with that). Exploring and looting what you can, even to just sell stuff to buy better things, will get you a lot of experience, inspiration, and equipment. Shops will typically restock after every level and also I think on long rests, so be certain to revisit them after doing so (hopefully with stuff to sell) so you can see if there is anything powerful on sale and to restock on camp supplies, potions, alchemy ingredients, lock picks, and trap disarm kits. Also don't forget to make use of things that can change the terrain (either through potions or spells) and make note if you can dip your weapons in said change or light it on fire (in the case of webs and grease).

    3:03 I learned this watching enemies in the dank crypt. I thought I could cut the rest of them off or they'd have to walk through cuz they do that in Pathfinder lol nah they just jump out of it before taking more damage. It's amazing what a lil common sense does to immersion!

    • @ProxyGateTactician
      @ProxyGateTactician  Рік тому

      lol most mobs do jump in this game, but some mobs can't do it. I find it impossible to know which ones can or can't. Example: Ogres can't jump

    • @OoToxiToxioO
      @OoToxiToxioO Рік тому

      @ProxyGateTactician yes that makes more sense because of flyers! Humans are also smart enough to jump out of the dangerous stuff boiling in the ground but I found Gnolls are too concerned with flesh eating so they'll run through it too!

    The first video on this channel? That was the best guide I've seen on any game's basic mechanics shown with full breakdowns of something of with infinite possibilities with, with memes. This is literally game changing information for a lot of us new to DnD mechanics and strategy genres. You also just saved us nerds the hassle of having to read a core rulebook and/or witness these mechanics in game. And, the best bonus, it just dawned on me I can use these in tabletop DnD so thanks for the visual info I need to throw my friends as an improvised weapon as the "healer" cleric.

    this is one of the most useful videos i've come across just explaining the simple action mechanics in the game for a newbie like me. if you did one of these breaking down every single spell/action in the game it would help a ton of people. they don't even have to be that long. a simple 2-4 minute explanation video specializing in a single spell/action would get the most views from people who have paused their game because they've become stuck or find themselves in a bind. Thanks for taking the time to do this btw.
