THE WINNER HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED! Thank you to all of the friends of the channel for participating in the draw! After randomizing the comments, WE HAVE A WINNER: Gabriel Vasquez @vasquez81 Congrats on winning a Sony a5000! *dated May 2023
I am genuinely surprised how much packed in is in this camera even with its age great review and great pacing made a detailed review without it getting boring
I just ordered a 5100 to back up my ZV-E10 for all the lens compatibility, same sensor and batteries and stuff so it's all interchangeable. I plan to use it as a stationary studio cam for streaming and recording talking head type narrations for my edutainment style content videos. I think its going to be fine in a controlled light indoor studio environment and I am excited to see so many youtubers AND commenters singing its praises across the video equipment channels and video making channels.
@@MattyDCCollins Your review helped me decide to do the ebay deal - an a5100 plus chargers, various cables/cords, a couple batteries, the right kind of big ass sd card, the kit lens, and all the papers, booklets, straps, caps and crap all like new in original boxes with less than 300 clicks on the camera! (of course it could have been a studio cam for 1000000 hours, but still, its like new!) and I got all the stuff for just shy of $400 shipped. Woohoo!
I sold my a5100 last year and picked up the a6500 as a replacement. What I loved about the a5100 was that it was tiny and the AF was accurate, 24mp was great. I didn't use it for video, just for stills. But, I had to use a tripod in low or moderate light or hand shake a problem. I loved the card slot being on the side instead of the bottom. Lack of viewfinder difficult in bright light.
i have the a5000 and it says in the manual they support remote recording beginning with a5100 and a6100. and i know for sure on the a5000 it doesnt have that feature. @@MattyDCCollins
I'm thinking of picking this one up as a compact "side camera" to my a7C. Mostly to save me from the hassle of switching lenses so often. So for that reason, I don't mind the lacking evf or poor battery life Anyway, thanks for the review!
I use my a5100 as a B cam for my A7iv ... Usually I have the 11mm 1.8 on my a5100 and the Sony 85mm on my A7iv. That way I have an ultra wide + tele combo at all times. If ultra wide is not needed, I pair my a5100 with the Sony 35mm
That would fine but two things come up - no mic input so record audio separately and check for record/overheating limitations. I would assume it would kick off after 30 mins
I’ve been using mine about a year now. Quite attached to it, man it’s made some really good memories. I will never forget. For stills it’s been wonderful to learn on. Video, not so much, it shits down after about 10 minutes.
Content creation has always been a passion of mine. After a six-year hiatus, I am thrilled to be returning to the world of vlogging. As a beginner again, I am currently working with a tight budget and have been searching the internet for any giveaway contests that may be available. So I hope the fortune would smile to me. In any case, I absolutely adore your channel. I have spent a significant amount of time going through your videos and have learned a great deal. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise. I wish you all the best and hope your channel continues to thrive. - Loves from Finland
Thanks for this honest review. I'm thinking of buying a sony system because i miss photography and some video work. But my budget is really tight. That's why I'm thinking about picking this one or the nex 5n or 5r.
I bought my first long ago. I bought another used one a couple years ago. I bought my daughter a used one. I have a useful collection of lenses. I also have a a6400 when i need better video. The a5100 is my absolute favorite. I may eventually add a zve10 as i think that it's the closest available replacement. I mostly use the ttartisan 25/2, with occasional use of the Sigma 18-50, and even the 16-50 kit lens. It still kicks axx in 2024.
hey homie you won, I haven't heard from you though, YOU HAVE UNTIL JUNE 2nd to claim your prize, just respond to this or instagram dm me - if you do not claim I will re-draw and give to someone else, hope all is well and congrats!
@@MattyDCCollins pretty good once you update the firmware that's not available at the website anymore for some reason.... but you can still find it on a comment section of a UA-cam video that someone talks about the firmware is missing
Great video! I own a a5100 and I think it is a great camera to learn the basics of photography. Also, it offers a very good picture quality. I just came back from a three-day trip to Prague and I was so pleased with the results!
Hi im planning on purchasing camera for vlogging soon, im considering getting a canon 700D or this camera, can you recommend which one is better? Or any recommendation is really appreciated. Thank you
This is sooo cool! I'm a beginner who uses my phone camera (Samsung Galaxy A20) for everything so to have a great camera like this which would be a dream for me. I'm trying to build up my equipment and my phone and a light or two is what I have at the moment.

Totally understand the trade-off there, a6500 is a beast but the a5100 was a cool camera too
