This is something I often say. What is taught to you from the pulpit is carefully selected to keep the preacher in a job. It is their income after all and who wants to convince people not to give towards their wages.
I find it amazing that at around 7:23 he declares he is not god and therefore cannot understand all that god does. But then they will spend all their time telling you what god intended to do even if its not in the scriptures. This happens in almost every in depth conversation with a believer.
Ephesians 6:1 "Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ". Colossians 3:22 "Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord". In 1 Peter 2:18-20, it says that servants should be subject to their masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the unjust.
On the other hand, Jesus said that it wasn't even worth bothering to plant next year's crop because the world would be ending, so I suppose you could say that there's no point rebelling against your master - and potentially breaking some commandments - when he, and you, are going to die next year. Against that of course is the fact that Jesus was wrong and the world did not end. Well, nobody's perfect :D
I love when people who have just cursory, almost toddler knowledge of the bible get on thinking theyre going to mentally joust and somehow prevail against a seminary masters degree graduate student who understands both hebrew and greek...
I remember when I was that far gone that I'd read the Bible, see and understand what it said, but because I couldn't reconcile what it was saying with what I'd been taught about God being all powerful and righteous and loving, I'd quickly dismiss it and either make up some excuse or seek an excuse from the Christian apologists. I'm convinced this is why deconstructing takes such a long time.
I highly recommend the movie Heretic (2024). Every atheist and every theist should watch it imo. It is a brilliant deconstruction of religion via the horror genre.

They don't want to accept it because then they would reevaluate their life and the creeping thought that maybe just maybe they have dedicated their life to a cult.
It would seem obvious to me that it looks a lot like it was written by people in that time and in that place and not by a god. It’s frustrating to hear people not come to that conclusion.
Why do people say it's OK because slavery was a thing back then? Eating pigs back then was a thing, wearing mixed fabrics was a thing, and god was really specific about saying no to both of those. He was emphatically against the pigs and mixed fabrics and he didn't say "oh, I better go along with both of these since they are already doing this."
The obsession with slavery. To have any credibility, prove to us God did not give Moses the ten commandments, because he didn't. It proves the existence of Moses.
Great job as always. QUESTION, DEUT 15:12 speaks of a Hebrew slave, male and female, that are released after the 6 year term. You stated, according to EX 21 the female slave is for life (which is correct there, for marriage?) and the foreigner. But DEUT would contradict that blanket statement. What would you say to that?
@@DeveloperChris Yeah, it seems so, but specifically I'm wondering why the host said it in that way, because it's technically not correct, unless I'm missing something.

I found the ratio between solar and lunar months to be crucial in calculating the year of the return of Israel. Simply dividing by 13 then multiplying by 12 gives the Hebrew year 5709 converted to 1948. The reference comes by looking at the custom of 2 witnesses required to determine the sighting of the moon cycle. Romans 11:4 (KJV) But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to [the image of] Baal. The second unique validation comes into reference regarding a 7000 reserve and reverse reference of 144,000 minus 7000 equals 137,000 then removing the original 2x12 by dividing by 24 giving 5708 being 12 months prior to the State declaration. Many believers have a God complex, where they believe everything they think is God speaking. They believe God speaks through them.
Dealing with these dishonest people can be tiring.
In 2024, it's a special form of cognitive disassociation when you defend the indefensible with same aplomb as making a grocery list.
Tell them to show you where it says, "thou shall not own another human being as property "
