    Grant: DT Corsair is a good comp, because Corsairs can bully away the overlords so the DTs can harass ground.
    Grant: I’m not going to build a single stargate.
    Grant: Corsairs scale really well with attack damage but really badly with enemy armour.
    Geabt: I’m going to rely on my 4 starting 0-0 corsairs for air defence.

    It always weirded me out that Protoss in this mission would call out Kerrigan for "treachery", even though she had not betrayed anyone just yet. So far, they only had one encounter on Char, where she was very straight-forward in trying to kill them all. In fact, she was so straight-forward, that Tassadar mocked her for it and made her pay for it.

    • @NotHPotter
      @NotHPotter 2 роки тому +38

      I think it has more to do with her generally having been human and then betraying "her" race to side with the Zerg. The Protoss are not exactly known for their nuance.

    • @MalevolentSpirit234
      @MalevolentSpirit234 2 роки тому +29

      It's more likely that her line of "We will not suffer your treachery here" is just a more sophisticated way of threatening Kerrigan. It essentially means "do no betray us, or else...". After all, Raszagal is supposed to be the wisest elder here that even Aldaris at first seems to respect.

    • @fare-5174
      @fare-5174 2 роки тому +7

      @@MalevolentSpirit234 I suppose I did say "in this mission", which could be construed in different ways, but the next one starts with Aldaris going into "her words are poison" mode and gets yet another 180 after mission 1 and 2 where he ate a lot of the humble pie, and then in the zerg campaign pretty much everyone is piling up and questioning her motives even though, once again, she personally only wrecked Jimmy's CC and let him go, and then evicted the Protoss from Char. None of which were a betrayal.

    • @MalevolentSpirit234

      @@fare-5174 Kerrigan fought for the Overmind's Zerg. For all the Protoss knew, Kerrigan was unfortunately a mindless slave. As Tassadar mentioned, it was regrettable that Kerrigan fell, and Zeratul was Tassadar's teacher who "humbled" him and taught him to be even more understanding. The Protoss just had their homeworld absolutely crushed by the Zerg, and they are not aware of the Zerg hierarchy's split, as the Zerg are still crushing them at almost every turn even with the Overmind dead. For all that Aldaris (a Judicator and a part of the ruling class, who as we know were very wary of whom to trust and often acted like political comissars) knows she could be a spy, which is why he is really pissed that the Matriarch, Zeratul, and Artanis even listened to her. The latter three do still listen to her, knowing they could extract useful information but are still at first wary of her because for all they know her story could be a ruse to allow her to spy on them for the celebrates. Until they see that her words are true for themselves, they don't really know.
      Think about it this way: would you at first trust somebody who took a shot your friends, and treat them as nicely?
      Tldr: They didn't have enough evidence to prove she is absolutely an enemy, but they don't have evidence to show is a friend, resulting in their interactions as they happened. It's got nothing to do with her "betrayal" in the past; her conversion was forced and they completely understand that through Raynor and Tassadar, but the conversion does change the mentality of the victims and they also know that too, so they are wary and keeping up the appearances of distrust.

    3:16 Actually no. The list of the most visited locations in StarCraft missions is the following:
    #3.1 Backwater Station. Two times. Once in the StarCraft 1 mission Desperate Alliance where you hold out until Mengsk arrives to rescue you and a second time in Liberation Day.
    #3.2 Khor-Shakal. Two times. Once in mission seven of the original protoss campaign and another time in Legacy of the Void. Remember, the Spear of Adun was burried under the Great Forum. Makes you wonder why the Conclave did not use it...
    #3.3 The warp gate linking Aiur to Shakuras. Two times. You visit it once in mission two of The Stand and another time in mission eight of the U.E.D. campaign.
    #3.4 The psy-distruptor base on Braxis. Two times. Once in mission seven of the U.E.D. campaign and a second time in mission two of the Brood War zerg campaign. (I'm not counting the psy-distruptor as a location in and of itsself but I will mention that you visit it on U.E.D. mission three on Tarsonis.).
    #2.1 The xel'naga temple on Shakuras. Three times. Once in mission three and once in mission eight of The Stand. Then you visit it a third time in Legacy of the Void.
    #2.2 The second overmind's nesting ground. Three times. You visit it once in The Stand to get a chryatal, another time at the end of the U.E.D. campaign to subdue the second overmind and another time at the end of Brood War to slay the second overmind.
    #1 The overmind's nesting ground on Aiur. Four times. Once in the last zerg mission in StarCraft where you clear the area for the overmind's arrival, a second time in Eye of the Storm where you slay the overmind, a third time in Wings of Liberty in the third Zeratul mission and a fourth time in Legacy of the Void on The Host.

    Something I like a lot about SC1 zerg is their defense structures are their creep structures~
    It's a lot more inherent to clear out all the things attacking you and the creep goes away as opposed to clearing out all the things attacking you, but you still can't build there because there's invisible buildings you need detection to get rid of which don't really fight you but waste your time.
    At the same time though I really like the creep tumor as a structure, it lets zerg have map control and gradually "infest" the map, allowing them to see incoming attacks and pre-emptively respond with units rather than static defense at home.

    I believe that the most visited singular location in SC is the Overmind's nesting ground on Aiur. Someone else has also mentioned Augustgrad as well, but I feel that is a bit general compared to one precise map location.
    You are specifically at the Overmind nesting ground for 4 missions: SC1Zerg "Full Circle", SC1Protoss "Eye of the Storm", SC2WoL "Echoes of the Future", and lastly, SC2LotV "The Host".

      It doesn't matter actually. Remember the last WOL mission? Or the entirety of HOTS? You can't kill her. As long as there's at least one hatchery to store her genetic information in nearby - she's gonna return. To kill her in this case you need conditions like Ulnar's deep enclosures, where she can't be revived it seems like. Or something strong enough to just erase her. And there's only a handful of such things.

    Designers obviously "knew much better" at how to make RTS campaigns when making SC2. In SC and BW campaign tech trees were exactly the same as multiplay because why not, but in WoL they already knew campaigns should make players of all skill levels able to enjoy, hence simplified tech trees, no upgrades besides attack/armor, auto-gas etc.

    • @cancerguy5435
      @cancerguy5435 2 роки тому +10

      They weren't "simplified". Rather, they were reworked. Instead of getting upgraded through the mission, you spend campaign macro resources for things. And it's not bad. Just different.

    • @irontorch4186
      @irontorch4186 2 роки тому +7

      i disagree. i think the campaign having the same tech tree as multiplayer is a positive thing because in an rts game, you want your players to keep coming back to the game and preparing them for multiplayer by using the campaign is a cool way to do it. i also think that they didnt know much better because in the sc2 campaign there are many spawned waves, which is not counterable in an rts setting, and top bar abilities cannot be countered by the enemy either.

    To answer your question Grant, the two cerebrates in this level are unnamed. Names are only granted to cerebrates that have served for an extended period or achieved some great feat. A cerebrate is granted a name by its peers or the Overmind as a badge of honor.
    In the campaigns, novels, and bonus content there are a total of 12 known unnamed cerebrates and 9 known named cerebrates. The named cerebrates are Araq (Jormungand Brood), Daggoth (Tiamat Brood, the Renegade Swarm), Zasz (Garm Brood), Gorn (Baelrog Brood), Kagg (Sutur Brood), Nargil (Fenris Brood), Zargil (Sennith Brood), Kaloth (the New Swarm), and Auza/Atticus Carpenter (Incubus Broos/Carpenter's Brood).
    Bonus:
    The cerebrate you play in Episode II never earned a name. According to the official timeline, this cerebrate only lived for about three months... born on Tarsonis and slain on Char. In fact, this cerebrate's death is where Tassadar learned to channel the warp energy of the dark templar, the same energy he would go to use when killing the Overmind.
    Bonus 2:
    Daggoth is the only one of the 21 known cerebrates we don't know what happened to. He was not part of the cerebrates merging into the second Overmind, he was not slain in the campaign or novels during the Brood War. We do know that Chris Metzen said Daggoth is dead during an interview, and we know Blizzard can't use cerebrates anymore because they're "playing nice" with Games Workshop, but we have no in-universe confirmation of Daggoth's death.

  • @kirlandiya
    @kirlandiya 2 роки тому +5

    5:30 thanks to this problem, in Warcraft 3 devs had to store dependencies, that is balance patches for different modes of the game, like for example the original campaign uses these patch depencies, but TFT uses those ones, whereas melee in RoC uses those, but in TFT it uses another set, but then again when they had to add next chapters for the Rexxar's campaign they needed to use the dependencies for the campaign again, even though they lack new data including, for example, the new Firelord hero unit and his abilities, etc...... And in Reforged this is even more complicated, if you peek inside the data files in WC3 there's like a dozen of differen versions of the same unit table for any feasible game mode.

    How did the Cerebrates even get on Shakuras in the first place? Wasn't the warp gate on Aiur the only way (known to the Zerg) to get to Shakuras? In mission 1 there was a full Protoss base there, so I doubt the Zerg could have used it before the start of the campaign. Sure, between missions 1 and 2 some Zerg slipped through, but I can't imagine it being that many with Raynor/Fenix on one side and us on the other. And in mission 2 the gate gets sealed specifically so that no more Zerg can pass through. Mission 3 seems to take place pretty much immediately after 2 (?), but suddenly there is not only a bunch more Zerg, but they somehow moved/created two new Cerebrates there as well. How come?

    You were talking about things that could be done to make various missions more dynamic and make more sense in the story? I think it would be cool if Kerrigan's brood attacks the Cerebrates, showing up to destroy their base after the Cerebrates are killed.

  • @Sorenzo

    I really don't understand the timeline here... Last mission we were told the Dark Templars had never even heard of the Zerg, next mission there's Zerg Cerebrates on Shakuras and the Matriarch is the one to inform us about them? How did the Cerebrates get there?? Through the warp-gate after we arrived? But we were only on Shakuras for a short time before the Zerg had bases already... I can imagine a few drones and hydras getting through and starting a base while you were building your Nexus, but now there's Cerebrates on Shakuras?? How did they get through the portal before Raynor retook control of it? And when did the Matriarch get briefed on them?

    I love how even though the Overmind is dead they still believe they need to use Dark Templars to kill the cerebrates. Why did they need to remake the Overmind if the cerebrates still need to be killed with DTs?

    • @esupton783
      @esupton783 2 роки тому

      I think they DO need the overmind to reincarnate (at least lorewise, I don't know about triggers), but I don't think that's something zeratul knows, so they play it safe and send DTs for the secured kill

  • @tedculbertson6320
    @tedculbertson6320 2 роки тому +1

    They don't talk about this much, but it seems like Zerg all belong to someone and nobody else can take control of them. When Zsasz dies, his brood goes crazy and not even the Overmind can just tell them to stop. And Kerrigan doesn't appear to be able to take control of the Cerebrates' Zerg. Am I forgetting some part where they explain this?

    • @amplesstratleholm7609
      @amplesstratleholm7609 2 роки тому

      The Overmind is also paralyzed during Zeratul's attack as per Daggoth (Zerg 7) briefing, which caused it to be unable to resurrect Zasz in the first place. Zeratul uses Void energies, which was stated to be similar to what the Overmind uses (I believe Daggoth also says that), that's why they mind melded when Zeratul slew Zasz (Zeratul and the Overmind knew each other's secrets, including the location of Aiur and the Overmind's origins).

    Just me or is Raszagal's voice acting a bit underwhelming/monotone? There's a lot of top tier voice acting in this game with the likes of Mengsk, Overmind/DuGalle/Zeratul, Aldaris, Kerrigan, etc, it's bit jarring to hear Raszagal (and probably including Artanis).

    • @amplesstratleholm7609
      @amplesstratleholm7609 2 роки тому

      Nah not just you, Vorazun (who IIRC is her daughter) sounds far more interesting. This Artanis was a rookie Praetor, so he lacks the dignified aura of his SC2 counterpart.
