imagine 2v2 where players in the same team play the same race but one plays sc1 version and 2nd plays sc2 version of the units (e.g. protos sc1 + protos sc2 vs. terran sc1 + terran sc2). that would be insane
i was thinking about how good a sc2/sc1 terran/terran army with mass bio and medivacs and science vessel+raven could be.. even thinking about how one player could focus on saving energy for mules instead of scans, and the resource trading system, defiler dark swarm probably wouldn't be as scary because of widow mines
@@EnigmaGamer421 hi, dev here, only a few units and buildings have said skins (command centers, hatcheries, nexus, zealots, hydras, marines, and the workers), so the rest are created by us. We also had to fix and or recreate a few skins as they had some glaring issues with their materials, weight painting, anims, rigging or even the alignment of geometry.
Ok, whoever made this mod paid amazing attention to broodwar mechanics! Look at 17:25, when the carriers first attack the sensor tower, they send out interceptors one at a time. After that initial deployment, every other time they engage, they send them all out at the same time. This was a well known bug in broodwar!
I love this. SC1 was one of the first games that captivated me. To the point where nearly 20 years later I still watch pro SC2 despite not playing. I remember spamming "show me the money" and cranking out units and being obsessed with Dark Archons as a kid.

I feel like the Cyclone was built to counter Snow's Reaver micro, his Reaver Shuttle micro makes the comp look broken. In last season's ASL he did about 2,000 minerals worth of damage against a Terran. By the way, the Barcode Terran would either be Cure or TY.
You feel like you consumed drugs and are talking about different games. Cyclone is SC2 Reaver is BW So no. Units in SC 2 were not built to counter units in SC1.
That corsair dealing minimal damage to the Raven hurts my soul. What kind of sick bastard made the Corsair damage explosive? (effective against large/armored/massive units, half damage against small/light units)
I mean, it *is* canonically supposed to be an anti-capital ship strike craft. It was the Scout that was supposed to fill the role of air-superiority for SC1 Protoss lmao.

The Scout is the anti-capital strike craft, the Crosair is specifically made to kill groups of lightly armored target, IE: it's made to be a hard counter to mutalisks, like the valkyrie. The mutalisk having no counter in SC1 without broodwar meant that both the dragoon and the goliath got a range upgrade and both Terran and Protoss got an anti light air specialist.
It was a "Normal" type damage from BW which means they deal 100% damage on all unit types so they're the ideal counter against basic flyers with no base armor like Mutalisks. IDK how Mutalisks are tagged in SC2 but if they're still the same "small" type unit and receive less damage from "explosive" type then somebody from the balance team of the mod surely knows what's up. Balance issues, maybe?
@@abunja Corsairs deal explosive damage in Brood War and always have, not normal. Check the wikis, they all say explosive. Which is odd because they’re supposed to specialize against mutas like you said… but for some reason Blizzard thought it fit to halve the damage against the units they’re supposed to be effective against? It’s the same case for Valkyries: Specialized against small grouped air… explosive attacks. And yes, all SC2 units labeled Light are considered “small” in SC1 vs SC2, while Armored and Massive are considered Large.
It's frustrating to watch someone with the power of Arbiters not use them to their full potential. It's easy enough to station 2 at different attack points on the map, and then 1 back home. Recall the carrier group to attack point A, wait for Terran army to show up; Recall to attack point B, smash it while the Terran army marches over; then Recall everyone back home. If you do it right, you have just shield damage, and are ready to fight against a bruised Terran with less infrastructure.
in Starcraft 1, PvT is considered the most solved matchup, where if you try to go for an unusual comp, there will be obvious ways to punish that. So, as an SC1 fan, seeing it go up against the SC2 Terran is really a breath of fresh air.
I think my favorite part of this mod is their SC1 Siege Tank model. There are other models out there that pretend to represent the SC1 Arclite Siege Tank, but this is the first one I've seen that actually _LOOKS_ like the SC1 Tank. I will say, it's not surprising it took so long for the Corsair to kill the Raven. Corsairs single target damage has always been utterly pitiful - 5 Explosive damage a shot, very high attack speed. Their strength is the fact that their damage is AoE Splash damage around the target. Despite their attacks only doing 2.5 damage a shot to Mutalisks _before_ armor, the simple fact of their splash allows groups of Corsairs to absolutely shred groups of mutalisks.
@@setaverse Nope, Corsairs have always done Explosive damage, surprisingly enough. It's very easy to assume otherwise with how they shred Mutalisks. It doesn't feel like the math adds up, does it?
Just for clarification : dragoons aren't really between stalkers and immortals. They are very, very similar to stalkers in term of damage (with 2 more damage against armored and 3 less against light) and life (20HP differences on the base 160 of the stalker) while giving up blink.
I think this is the best of both worlds: all variety from SC: BW but with the engine of SC2, and essentially two distinct ways to play each race. Would really like to see more of this!

This was a fun one to watch! Would definitely be excited to see more. One thought on thumbnails: Perhaps instead of showing an old skin for a unit in both games (Carrier), have your thumbnail show one unit exclusive to each game? E.g. Reaver vs Cyclone, Guardian vs Tempest, Goliath vs Ravager
I'm genuinely surprised that the terran won. Given the insane amount of damage that Mini was able to do with the reaver's improved pathing on workers, that was genuinely impressive from the barcode.

I always wanted to see how SC1 units fare against SC2 units. I always thought they should do what SINS of a Solar Empire did and split the 3 factions into Rebels (SC1) and Loyalists (SC2). Terran Raiders (TR) Terran Dominion (TD) Zerg Overmind (ZO) Zerg Queen (ZQ) Protos Khala (PK) Protos Scion (PS)
I hope that the mod is done so well that they end up just making it part of StarCraft 2. Might require some balance adjustments, but imagine merging all the pros from SC1 and SC2. It would be a whole new world of SC competition and breathe a lot of new life into the game.
For SC 2 players wondering why Terran doesn't go bio here, the Reaver almost single handedly makes bio unviable. A single scarab does 100 AoE damage (there's an upgrade that increases it to 125 even) and bio becomes far too cost inefficient to ever be able to deal with them. As someone who watches BW but doesn't know much about SC 2, this was a really cool matchup to watch though. It's interesting seeing both sides make units that they may not otherwise make in this matchup in their own respective games. Also something else worth noting: in SC 1 TvP, Terran typically has to rely on timing pushes to win their games, and Siege Tanks are a staple in their army composition. BUT SC 2 tanks do less damage than their SC 1 counterparts. Combine that with the fact that SC 2 Terran has different units overall, that could be part of why we didn't see them move out much in this game (also Mini putting on so much pressure probably made move outs more difficult earlier on).
I think this video does a good job showing the major difference in balancing philosophy that sc1 has compared to 2. SC1/brood war definitely has alot of op spells, but sc2 just has better raw damage output on units. Watching those carriers slowly wittle down buildings while the terran just mows down everything is funny.
Amazing game, great casting, looking forward to Goliaths now even more. -spoilers- Am I crazy or does anyone else agree? Wouldn't a tech switch to Scouts for the battlecruiser's with the 3/3 Air Upgrades and/or Dark Archons for them and the mass Thors been a better play? Especially after the deep strike which, in my humble opinion, should've been done with a distraction for the army and probes for pylons and batteries when the Arbiters warped in the army to the main base. I like how the Protoss nexus looks like the SC1 version. I would like to see the rest of their structures look like their classic versions too eventually.

Mech Terran in SC1 is basically the norm in TvP and TvT, bio is only seen as viable in extended games vs Zerg where there isn't a ton of straight up ground vs ground shooting fights, otherwise Marines are too squishy without combat shields. There's high-level games where it's been played in each matchup but chiefly as a timing attack
Honestly I love that certian units are more formidable. Those vikings at 18:00 didn't one click delete a carrier. The carrier is weaker though and if left alone they become monsters.

This was because in SC1 if the carrier moves the interceptors don't get inside the carrier, you can even select them behind the carrier :D

Reaver shuttle micro has always been broken, with no other counter but having troops in place beforehand.

Yes and no, DS was indeed very insane in SC1, but SC2 has much faster unit reaction time, and offensive spells to just mulch the slow defilers.

I hope that the mod is done so well that they end up just making it part of StarCraft 2. Might require some balance adjustments, but imagine merging all the pros from SC1 and SC2. It would be a whole new world of SC competition and breathe a lot of new life into the game.

For SC 2 players wondering why Terran doesn't go bio here, the Reaver almost single handedly makes bio unviable. A single scarab does 100 AoE damage (there's an upgrade that increases it to 125 even) and bio becomes far too cost inefficient to ever be able to deal with them. As someone who watches BW but doesn't know much about SC 2, this was a really cool matchup to watch though. It's interesting seeing both sides make units that they may not otherwise make in this matchup in their own respective games.
Also something else worth noting: in SC 1 TvP, Terran typically has to rely on timing pushes to win their games, and Siege Tanks are a staple in their army composition. BUT SC 2 tanks do less damage than their SC 1 counterparts. Combine that with the fact that SC 2 Terran has different units overall, that could be part of why we didn't see them move out much in this game (also Mini putting on so much pressure probably made move outs more difficult earlier on).
Imagine a Starcraft where each race has two further options you can play as: v1 or v2. This mod definitely has an awesome concept
I think this video does a good job showing the major difference in balancing philosophy that sc1 has compared to 2. SC1/brood war definitely has alot of op spells, but sc2 just has better raw damage output on units. Watching those carriers slowly wittle down buildings while the terran just mows down everything is funny.
I hope we can see some Brood War Zerg and Terran fighting modern opponents as well. So far both matches have been old Protoss vs new races.
Definitely want to see more of this mod. Something new for a change.

Am I crazy or does anyone else agree? Wouldn't a tech switch to Scouts for the battlecruiser's with the 3/3 Air Upgrades and/or Dark Archons for them and the mass Thors been a better play?
Especially after the deep strike which, in my humble opinion, should've been done with a distraction for the army and probes for pylons and batteries when the Arbiters warped in the army to the main base.

the corsair can be upgraded and perma-cloaked, so it could be useful in numbers against an air terran
No, that's a co-op thing. Can't cloak the BW corsairs (terran have scan anyway so it wouldn't matter even if)

Mech Terran in SC1 is basically the norm in TvP and TvT, bio is only seen as viable in extended games vs Zerg where there isn't a ton of straight up ground vs ground shooting fights, otherwise Marines are too squishy without combat shields. There's high-level games where it's been played in each matchup but chiefly as a timing attack

Honestly I love that certian units are more formidable. Those vikings at 18:00 didn't one click delete a carrier. The carrier is weaker though and if left alone they become monsters.
I believe Grant played SC1 using the SC2 engine and yes, zerglings were devastating with good pathing and larger control groups.
Reavers are confused when they got dropped from the Shuttle.
