Sam, I have been a long time a geek, I got my ppl at 16 (now 70) thinking I would go on to the airforce and then change to commercial, but when passed the commercial they required a airmans physical and found out I was colorblind to red and green, so I had to change to medicine. I just want to say, that I love the run up of the engines on take off and I believe I am not the only one. It is a magical sound, and I would enjoy hearing it on your videos. Wonderful work, and please continue with these videos that mix the cabin with the cockpit.
This is definitely a good start, but it'll take many years for sustainable fuels to give the output and energy that conventional fuels give. Well, you have to start somewhere! Great video as always, Sam. Cheers.
Hi Sam. Thanks for taking this marathon journey from LA. The Eithad experience was more reminiscent of the panache of international travel. You brought us a rare-bird, a female first-officer on a Middle Eastern carrier, Ms. Sharifa, hope to see more in changes in attitude. As always, your are the passenger with most access and we are sitting in the your right-seat, thanks for bringing us along. As always, great to see that you have come so far from your visit video in 2007 aboard a Singapore Airlines A380, where you received a coconut on dry-ice. Keep flying Sam...
Great review Sam, proud of Etihad Management in taking a lead to reduce CO2 emissions footprint and using so much biodegradable products inflight. Great job 👏.
Don't fool yourself, flying is not "sustainable" and bio fuels are not "green" in any way, probably even worse than traditional ones. This is plain marketing.
I found the information about contrails to be quite interesting. As the saying goes, you start with baby steps. I hope all airlines, and every flight, begins to be sustainable, and then continue improving, with perhaps new innovations. We have to start this journey quickly, even though it may add costs for the airlines (hopefully they don't pass the added costs 100% onto the fare 😂 LOL!). Good video, Sam. I could see that you were exhausted from your flights. I hope you managed to get a good rest.
I always love sam chui video.. Actually i planed to travel with Etihad this week but changed into Emirates due to some reason. I love Etihad 787-10 greenliners
Sam that concept is anything but sustainable. There is no way you can get direct routing, constant climb & constant decent in the real world. They might have coordinated that for this specific flight but it’s unrealistic.
Sam I agree with you 100% as a commercial pilot on a 737BBJ & 777BBJ we have to protect our future in aviation, unfortunately airlines are about dollars a cents. As long as jet fuel is cheaper than alternative fuels the industry will never use it. Having a company like Etihad which is Gov. Owned and subsidies promote such a venture is just a publicity stunt.
Even if the route was optimised that doesn't address the fundamental issue with aeroplanes - the fact that they run on fossil fuels.. It is understandable that you wish to save your profession but the only sustainable solution is to stop flying until there are alternative fuels or energy sources.
Starting to cut the plastic is really good, the problem here is to really get continuous ascent and descent in heavy traffic regions, where delays are common, like London! By the way, gorgeous FO :)
So all the effort and energy saved the equivalent of the annual CO2 emissions of 2 passenger cars. That is based on 22 mpg and 11500 miles of driving per year. If that is a daily flight it's 4 cars per day. Take it for what is worth. Contrails holding in heat isn't something I would consider a major problem. Running 1 engine on taxi and not using the APU are more about air quality near airports. LA uses taxi trucks to minimize emissions and CO2. I Like the coffee cups.
It’s not just one airline it needs to be every airline to be sustainable. Am so please to see Etihad leading the way. Sam another absolutely brilliant vlog. As you say these flights need to happen everyday. Well done Etihad. Massive step forward.
The Flightradar24 data was showing too low speed during the flight within 17:00-17:30hrs. Anyways the flight gained back the speed quickly, I think it was a technical glitch….or did you really noticed anything like that!
1:20 is she wearing a Patek Aquanaut? Good lord that caught me off guard. Also, for Sam's video team, at 10:59 and 11:07, the "unintelligible" is the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU).
How a great airline just got blemish Etihad is a solid example of that. I was so proud of flying Etihad once now I don’t want to fly anymore. No good schedule, extra ticket cost and less flights. What have you done Etihad management?
It’s very important that airlines take measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions! If you say that 7 tons less CO2 was emitted, you should also say how much CO2 did get into the air during this flight in the first place.
Sam you are normally Very positive about your experience and you fly for your UA-cam channel around world just to share experiences with your subscribers which you do end up polluting the planet earth and not sure about how are being so sceptical about the whole sustainability piece in this flight when they are doing such a great job. As an aviation enthusiast you should promote this rather than being very negative about the experience.
Is the airplane made of sustainable material? All the plastics and metal? The fabric on the seats? The carpeting? Or the tons of toxic paint used to paint the livery?
Great initiative and respect to Etihad for doing their best but the irony of flying over the empty F1 circuit with all it's flood lights blazing away for no reason whatsoever kills any benefits of the flight.
While you have a bit of a point, improvements are always worthwhile, that track is used for other things than racing and lights are both easy to decarbonize and very power-efficient.
After the amount of times that I've been bloody stopped for having cutlery in my backpack, it's ridiculous they are now handing out sharp steel knives.
The Airlines know who he is and they treat him like a VIP. The only Airline that don't care about him was Air India and he was very critical of them in Video

Sustainability is the new buzz word for corporations to make customers feel good about using their services. You cannot escape the second law of thermodynamics
Yes… you all can say it is marketing… but it’s actually even if little but it is effort that is seen by airlines. Not by all but by many airlines already :)
Ppl really should look into biodegradable plastics such as PHA and starch-based plastics. Though these products are significantly more expensive, they could really save our planet.
@@dr.azygos3585 Yes and no. Foe example PHA is made by GMO bacteria. You basically have to grow crops and feed these bacteria with lots of sugar to obtain PHA(which is why they are more expensive). On the other hand plastic is made from crude oil so there's not much you can compare between these two despite they serve the same purpose: generating well-shaped food and liquid containers. There are concerns about biodegradable plastics using crops which should be given to those ppl still in famine conditions(very similar to those concerns regarding sustainable aviation fuel), but that's another story.
@@dr.azygos3585 The whole point of using biodegradable plastic is to prevent further microplastic pollution. Current plastic cannot be fully broken down and will re-enter food chain in microplastic form, which is damaging to any existing species, including us.
