Haha, no, not this line. Our protagonist, DMX, delivers a message of intimidation towards any potential threats. Rather than waiting for them to get it (get a beating, or maybe a bullet!) on their own, he's going to deliver it to them himself.
Yesss I was looking forward to your upload on this. Definitely agree on the way "2nd run" is handled in this one. They missed out on implementing this in RE7 as well: in the demo to that game, you could influence the present by manipulating the past during the video tape (i.e. pick up a lockpick as Clancy to open a kitchen drawer for the protagonist). In the main game that's not a thing, despite ample opportunities. Like during the ship section, you play as Mia in the past - but no matter what items you try to leave for Ethan later just vanish in the present. Would have been cool to be able to do that, and in this newest RE2. FYI the enemies don't attract Mr.X, just sounds made by you. Walking vs. Running matters as well, but not as much as you'd think (there's at least one video testing it on here). I'd also say walking past lickers is the best way of dealing with them (and not using flash grenades) - almost all of them can simply be walked past or despawned. Great work on the video
Personally I was far more hyped for DMC5 and I've only recently played RE2make. While I really enjoyed it my enjoyment for DMC5 was alot higher. If RE2make was more like REmake for me personally, it probably would've won over DMC5. It was a really good game but just afew little nitpicks keep it from topping the original in my opinion.
LOL Foxcade couldn't resist putting Mr.X meme on his video and Also You can explain that Leon picture in the video? XD About A and B scenario thing. Originally, The Director of RE2 Remake wanted to Put Canon Scenarios for Leon and Claire not A and B thing, but Capcom forced them to put an A and B scenario after The fans got upset after listening this. If They only put Canon scenario like they had originally planed then The story couldn't suffered by this problem. In the end, it doesn't take how good the game is.
The story is worse in the reimagining cause the 2 scenarios don't build off each other like in the original. I think Leon is fine, but I didn't care for this interpretation of Claire. She seems to cuss way more than Leon and her in game shrieking didn't help either. Not that either characters in game dialogue was good to be honest. I liked Hunk the best as he's a professional lol. And that random forced relationship in the "true ending." No... Still like to think Claire A Leon B is the canon route.
@@Gruntvc To be honest, I don't care about the story because I'm Gameplay first and Story second kind of guy. To be fair, Resident Evil is never known for having good dialogue in their game. In my end, I think the good outweighed the negative in this remake.
I'm just extremely pumped to see the series get back on track/go the way I always wanted the series to go. RE lost me for 10+ years with its mainline titles and I've never liked the spinoffs for separate reasons. As much as I enjoyed RE4 I saw it as the beginning of the end and I don't think I was wrong to think that. The series really shifted gears to something I didn't like after that. REmake 2 and RE7 give me a lot of hope though. You point it out in the video but I think a near perfect balance has been found between the survival horror and those action set pieces. Now I just need to see how much they clean up the pants on head retarded lore. I see a lot of hints to major retconning so it's looking good I think. Great video man, keep it up.
Thank you for making this video, you are 100 percent correct when you said they took all of the best parts of resident evil games throughout the years and put it all in this one making it the best resident evil ever made..Hope RE3 gets the same treatment and honestly, I would buy yet another RE remake if given this kind of treatment as well.
I loved this game, I truly believe that any fan of RE should play this game, but I think that, because of the story issue, if they hadn't play the 1998 version, they should play it before this one, I mean it's almost perfect, for sure one of the best RE, but I felt it more like a tribute than a remake or a reimagining as some people claiming it to be... I don't consider it a reimagining because 90% of these game it's in the original RE2 (without considering the combat n the graphics of course), I mean the enemies, the plot, the scenarios n the charachters, most of it you'll find it in the 1998 version, but whats in these 2019 RE2 is like half of what the original RE2 have. I don't care if they take out something, if they change it for something else that works better, for example the plant 43, they were changed completely, for better of course, because the old version doesn't works anymore, they take out the relation between Ada n John n for me, I prefer it this way. The little changes that were made in this game was for better, at least most of them, I didn't like how they handle Brian Irons, Anette n Sherry Birkin, but that doesn't realy bothers me, besides, the changes in the other charachters works perfect... My only complain is that they take out too many things from the original without replacing them with anything... Yet still an AWESOME n GREAT game... It's one of my favorites right now n I've been playing RE since the 90's...
I personally thought Mr. X was underwhelming and then just an annoyance, figuring out how to juke him is easy enough but him just popping up whenever is annoying when you're trying to get somewhere and have to stop everything you're doing to avoid an enemy that isn't a threat but you also can't kill. Having enemies you can't kill (it worked in 3 because you got items from stunning nemesis) isn't something RE needs.
Hahaha, I clap! I clap when saw the IGN reviewer getting shit on! Jokes aside, RE had always had a special place in my heart, due to the many ways you can approach a replay of the game, as clearly stated by your video. While REmake1 pretty much overwrites the original, I love the fact that I have TWO great RE2 to come back to, thanks to all the new factors to REmake2 like; Mr X being the Predator of the RPD, the more inmate over the shoulder camera, and just overall changes to level design, and many more! Thank you for doing a video on RE, and I hope to see your thought on DMC5 when that comes out, fulfilling my deep affection of my two favorite franchises, from CapGod! Have a nice night, and keep up the great work, Fox! ;D
Great video! i agree fully to what you said about the 2nd scenario feeling a bit underwhelming, even more considering the fact, that the same bosses from the original ARE there, they coulda spread them out a bit, for example they coulda made G1 Birkin a 1st scenario fight only, and then the 2nd scenario character gets to that area and pushes the locker blocking the path, if they wanted it to spice it up a bit they coulda throw a few lickers or a G adult in there. So it's sad they didn't took the chance, all they really had to do was make new cutscenes/voice lines to fit the narrative a bit better, another example woulda been be able to open Ben's Cell from Irons office with Leon, and make it so Ben is able to get out but infected by Birkin soon after.
I recently just got the Platinum trophy for RE2 and *coincidentally* this video pops up in my feed not long after. I consider this my reward for beating this game 10 times.
Excellent review! It was so nice to hear a prominent reviewer like you praise the over the shoulder camera! I love it so much more and this Re 2 remake proved that its more effective in survival horror..Honestly I hope they Re imagine RE 1 Directors cut with this over the shoulder view..My only complaints with this game is I wish they had put more replay value on survival and exploration and less on just speedruns alone..I feel the scenario problems could have been avoided if they had Claire only face Birkin in boss fights and meet Kendo instead of Marvin..Have her solving puzzles in the gunshop and in the other side of the PD..While having Leon face different stages of Mr.X..I feel this would have made the game perfect !
The only problem I had with the game was I felt that the scenerio B's were not as good as the orginal and the lack of communicatin/meeting between Leon and Claire even tho Claire has a radio but never uses it.
Great review. I'm glad to see that you are more critical on the 2nd Scenario when compared to most critics. Aside from the story and boss battles being redundant, the second scenario just... kinda sucks. It's the first scenario, but with a weaker opening, and you have to play through the entire game to get one extra boss battle that could have easily been implemented in the 1st Scenarios. The 2nd Scenario is so poorly executed that I think it actively bogs down the game, and makes seeing the real ending feel unsatisfying. It's baffling, especially considering how the 21 year old original RE2 blows this remake out of the water in this respect. I'd rather have two fully fleshed-out character campaigns than 4 campaigns with story and gameplay spread out very thinly across. With that said, this is the best RE in a long time, and I'm glad old fans and new are happy, but considering how Capcom does listen to fans, I think we should be more critical on cut and half-baked content.
Finally, someone talking about how the 2nd scenario was disappointing. There was so much they could have done and shown the environment change between the time of scenario 1 and 2, and the variation in how Birkin evolves depending on when and where you are, like the original had. Things like having to call back the cable car because the first character had used it and leaving items so the character could have them in scenario 2, were and are still are unique, and there is many ways they could have developed all of that. The 2nd scenario in the remake felt tacked on and rushed. That for me was the one thing it fell flat on and stopped it being a 10/10 game. I still really really liked it, but it left me wondering 'what if....'
Mr x was cool for like the first handful of encounters, after that it just got to the point of "ok, but could we not?" I just want to get to this new room, not run around in a circle for 2 minutes seeing if he'll despawn after you go through a random set of rooms, save for the few extraordinarily rare situations he wasn't even a threat, I had more stress with the ivy zombies than I ever did with him. To be fair, I had the same issue with Jack from resident evil 7, and I think that stems from both of them only being able to be temporarily stopped instead of being made to fuck off for a set period of time like 15-20 minutes if you did engage them making it practically pointless to waste any ammo on them. Unlike nemesis, who was kind enough to drop weapon upgrades and useful items if you decided to risk the ammo and health engaging him, like, they had the method that worked already in front of them, and then like, still fucked it up. I get that they were probably thinking, oh, this will mess up a player's flow and make them have to make a brash decision where they might potentially blindly charge into a room and be ambushed by something they left behind in there, but we're playing a resident evil game, we should be pretty confident when we enter a room we've previously been through then whatever was left in there, is still in there (Yes, zombies can go through doors too, but typically they don't go very far), or if we cleared it, and it is a high traffic area, they probably spawned more shit in there, and unless you're deaf, there's no way he can get into the room you're in before you hear him coming, so... really a minor inconvenience in the overall picture of how they handled the remake, but it's just that one thing that could have been done just a little different and it would have gone a long way to improve the experience.
This was actually my first RE game, and I absolutely loved it. I played RE7 VR after it, and I liked it but not as much as RE2. I was disappointed when I found out that the other games were too old or more like an action game. The only thing I'd change about RE2 would be to make Claire's and Leon's story different.
Good points but they started with the following enemy with Nemesis. Unless you mean specifically integratinf the concept on modern platforms. Even then, Dino Crisis was actually the first to inplement that concept in a Capcom game.
okay so i think the way you expirience some scenarios in the same way that both cahracters did (making so sense in the end) is pseudo-historical LEMME EXPLAIN CUZ WE ARE GOING FULL MGS NOW while the one who actually fights berkin is a bit clearer (claire hears the alarm that leon gets off) 2 of the berkin fights (elevator and the first one ) are expiriences by only one character but on both playthroughs most likely they are in the game for the sake of not losing the already nicely desinged berkin so we can assume that only calire/leon fought berkin respectively on some of these fights (i will guess the ones that made the most sense) i dont know if what im saying makes sense but to mgs players it definetely will nice vid tho
Here’s a question folks assuming everyone has seen all the latest trailers of resident evil 8 and Chris transformation into a potential antagonist if Chris dies do you think it will be the end of resident evil/as we know it or do you think there is potential for future sequels and if so I’d love to hear your theory’s
Really wish it had turned out this and 3make were simulations of the Raccoon City Incident developed by Umbrella. It would explain the 2nd scenario miscontinuity and Ghost Survivor stories really well I think...
Along the line of “A & B Scenarios” being mostly the same, I, pretty much a newbie as in actually finishing one of the games for the first time, found the story being watered down to where certain things weren't so clear. Like Sherry being infected by her dad never really was shown or hinted at. That’s fine for original fans who knew what happened, but when I played, I just thought Sherry got sick from laying in trash. I mean it’s logical to understand that’s not how that happens, but I had no knowledge of what happen when Claire was knocked out. Another was Iron’s psychopathic fall into madness. I know he had the one file about Kathrine (which I over read, so it was partly my fault too), but compared to his new direction, I just thought he was a mad taxidermist who accidentally killed a girl and kept her around because she was beautiful (like a crazy pervert). Like when I went back to compare the original to the remake, I was disappointed they didn’t add in things that would make the game more creepy to me. Marvin felt like he was the only non-playable (and in sherry’s case, playable) character who got more character and impact to the story. Bertolucci had one scene (which wasn’t bad, but I wish maybe added like one more), Sherry was a main player, but it felt like you basically just ran with her than really do anything with her, and Kathrine never even got mentioned (though you did get to play as her in the extra mode), which just made me feel sad she died without being brought up in the main game.
This is an excellent video that gives the RE2 remake a lot of the credit that it deserves. I've seen too many "fans" immediately dismiss this game due to the camera angles and number of differences from the original. It doesn't replace the original game, or invalidate it, as [in my opinion] no game remake ever truly does (except maybe the RE1 Remake) but it's absolutely a great game that has tons of replayability, incredibly deep combat, and classic survival horror elements of item management and limited ammo. Despite my disappointment with the B scenarios in this remake, the game is still an instant favorite for me. I love it, and I can't wait to see what the next game brings. If people somehow can genuinely be mad about this game... Then the toxic, elitist community is clearly gonna be an issue with the franchise going forward. An issue i'd rather not have in my game community.
That being said I think they could have just made this RE8. Just change the plot a little and change some characters. You can keep the gameplay and even the rough idea of the setting more or less the same.
I agree. Great culmination of all the best RE series has to offer... with some minor imperfections. Given how much money they're making, I'm sure they'll strive to be as meticulous as CDPR for future entries of this variety. I do wish there was a way to get the RE4 typewriter music in my game. I just... expect to hear that tune every time I take Leon to save XD
Great video. Though, REmake wasn't a 1-to-1 recreation of the original. Added great new story elements and game mechanics. Wasn't a big leap like RE2 to Remake2 but still very different from the original RE.
Since when a 3D engine "makes a model". It can make the model look better, but model complexity has nothing to do with the engine. Edit: It's not the engine that "scan in real world textures" (which means nothing, really). I suppose they used megascans...
The technology of the remake is a huge step up but the action elements ruin it, The original resident evil 2 makes sense given the technology and is a better game design overall.
I was wondering, would you ever make an in depth analysis of the Ninja Gaiden games? Maybe even God Hand? Don't see enough videos covering those games.
God Hand for sure, it's just a matter of time and getting an easy way to record it all. Ninja Gaiden is something I've thought about, but no concrete plans as of now.
I'll admit I wanted (and still want) a RE2 remake in the style of RE1 HD (or I guess a remaster is a better term for it). This modernized remake we did get is really enjoyable though and I'm glad that it brought new players to the series. I am very disappointed though by the more or less lack of A and B scenarios and some of the characterizations like Chief Irons not hiding his true psychopathic nature at all, in my opinion making him much less creepy or interesting than the original that would hide his true intentions and act kind or polite to manipulate people.
I just wish we had the scenario A and B like the original. This half assed way here really suck and make it less interesting to do those B scenario to me. (I'm pretty casual player the higher difficulty is not an appeal to me, it's the opposite if there's no new story element to make me go trough if i can just, do both A scenario instead)
I just wish capcom would include the original in this as a bonus. It stands along side it, but it's not easy to play the original because of hardware. By that I mean you have to get a ps1 or ganecube and finding a tv or converter that can support their inputs
@Tom Ffrench that would be great. Not ideal, but it's either that or no official way. At least there are fan upscaled versions of 2 and 3. Upscaling assets so they aren't as pixelly
@Tom Ffrench i guess. But it would be neat to see og 2 and 3 remastered on a modern console. Or just an emulated port. Either way, I just want an official way to play them on modern platforms
Played through Leon A and Claire B on hardcore difficulty. Was good, but will likely never play it again. If they're going to continue with the classic, slower style then they need to go all in with the metroivania-style exploration. The first third of Remake 2 requires you to plan the best routes to avoid zombies and make room in your inventory for items. Then you hit the sewers and from then on it's basically a straight line to the end and you likely have at least 4 extra inventory slots which makes management trivial. Personally I prefer the endlessly replayable action-horror style of Resi 4 over the classics, but if they were to create a game that plays like REmake 2, but is set in one huge non-linear environment with loads of optional puzzles and missable secrets, then I think we'd have a real masterpiece. As it is, it's merely good.
Capcom is making a comeback. Bring back shinji and kamiyah and gold will happen. Unfortunately that wont happen because there both at different studios. It seems like capcom knows exactly what fans want right now unlike konami which are done
Mikami would've likely done a better job making sure the story and scenarios were better than the original, not worse. This game had what, 3 or 4 years of development behind it and Capcom got lazy with the story/scenarios? Not good when you compare it to the 1998 original that only had a year to become the classic it did.
This was a weird one for me... Nostalgia played a big part in my purchase, I have to admit, and while I'm really glad this happened, I never ended up finishing it.
I completely wish there was an proper b scenario but I do want to point out that even in the orginal Claire and Leon solve the exact same puzzles and unlock the exact same door. They have a few exclusive things but 95% is all the same through all four scenarios. Like sherry and ada get the same key at the same spot no matter what scenario you play lmao. They even get trapped in the same area all four scenarios. All remake2 needs to do is swap out the boss for the first encounter, a even more mutated Birkin for the second encounter and rework the lab story to be more cohesive to whoever you played first. Orginal will always be slightly better for having a proper b scenario but a lot of criticisms remake 2 gets the orginal already did.
I love the re2 remake I wasn't old enough to play the original so this is the closest I can get without buying an old system and hunting down a copy can't speak on experience from the original but if I do say so myself it is a phenomenal game and I have played all of them since the original on the ps1 my brothers old copy he had when it came out fooled my mom into getting it then she seen what it was lol he wasn't getting 2 😂

Kevin Espada people are thirsty for remake Leon
@MR NOT A HERO LOL XD It's strange since some fans didn't like how Leon looks in the Remake. In my opinion, He looks Good in the Remake (No Homo)
You got a source for that information, Kevin?
In my end, I think the good outweighed the negative in this remake.
lol at 6:41. I can only imagine what your reaction would've been
That was one of my clips, I was doing a hardcore S+ run and when that happened... things got pretty tense with the lack of save games lol.
@@Superspider51 oh my God that knowledge makes it even better lol
mr. rekd
Notice me foxadaddy
what to heck
This MineZ update looks crazy!
Alternate title of this video:
Resident Evil 2: A Devil's Grandfather's Remake
Great analysis and gameplay breakdown. Just subscribed :)
Finally a new video, thank you fox. I've watched all of your content and i'm a big fan of your work.
The only problem I had with the game was I felt that the scenerio B's were not as good as the orginal and the lack of communicatin/meeting between Leon and Claire even tho Claire has a radio but never uses it.
Dude the IGN stab was hilarious and well implemented. Lol.
Can't believe this is the first video on RE2:remake I see citing that there's no inktape save mechanics in the normal difficulty
I hope you'll do an RE3 Remake analysis as well.
great job man on resident evil series
Great channel dude
Sweet! Love your videos bro 👍👍
You got me good with that B Scenario joke. I sincerely thought you had missed the game telling you that you could select the second scenario
Shots Fired to IGN
I'd love to see a 1-1 recreation tho
I loved the original RE2... definitely need to play this 💖
15:18 nah
not wasting flash is more effective since lickers dont agro initially
Foxcade knew just what i wanted for valentine's day.😂🤣
I hope you enjoy it, I was thinking of you
This was actually my first RE game, and I absolutely loved it.
I'm kind of surprised they didn't set the remakes in current day, as to reset the ages of these characters that are a draw and make money.
Lmao imagine an re6 remake set in 2050 with everyone driving flying cars
okay so i think the way you expirience some scenarios in the same way that both cahracters did (making so sense in the end) is pseudo-historical
LEMME EXPLAIN CUZ WE ARE GOING FULL MGS NOW
while the one who actually fights berkin is a bit clearer (claire hears the alarm that leon gets off) 2 of the berkin fights (elevator and the first one ) are expiriences by only one character but on both playthroughs
most likely they are in the game for the sake of not losing the already nicely desinged berkin
so we can assume that only calire/leon fought berkin respectively on some of these fights (i will guess the ones that made the most sense) i dont know if what im saying makes sense but to mgs players it definetely will
nice vid tho
Great take on the remake! Makes me really want to get it (but I'mmmmm broke)
Now I want them to remake the first game. Like a true remake. None of that fixed camera angle bullshit.
I'm seriously looking forward to a video essay on dmc5 soon.
I got a few things planned for DMC5 ;)
"my favorite game is re4"
"fixed camera can never work in modern times"
simply epic
Dang big dante now s rank b roll spider is really moving up in the youtube game.
Great video. Though, REmake wasn't a 1-to-1 recreation of the original. Added great new story elements and game mechanics. Wasn't a big leap like RE2 to Remake2 but still very different from the original RE.
7:11 I was waiting for this
That dig at IGN though
4:27 Saying that line while displaying footage of *that one particular* zombie. I see what you did there.
7:12 made me lol... Nice.
Since when a 3D engine "makes a model". It can make the model look better, but model complexity has nothing to do with the engine.
Edit: It's not the engine that "scan in real world textures" (which means nothing, really). I suppose they used megascans...
Well not directly. But the engine needs to be capable of moving that model. A more complex model needs a more complex engine to move it around.
Thats hot 8:04
Jokes on you, blue herbs are actually useful in 2 by giving you armor buff
What RE game is this at 12:30?
The technology of the remake is a huge step up but the action elements ruin it, The original resident evil 2 makes sense given the technology and is a better game design overall.
I was wondering, would you ever make an in depth analysis of the Ninja Gaiden games? Maybe even God Hand? Don't see enough videos covering those games.
God Hand for sure, it's just a matter of time and getting an easy way to record it all. Ninja Gaiden is something I've thought about, but no concrete plans as of now.
Only one question... why does a key take up a whole slot???
I would love if Capcom release the all classic Resident Evil on Nintendo switch
This game needs to be ported on the Switch
"Here's hoping, whether it's RE3 getting the same treatment-"
Oh, uh.....
"Or whatever it is they have planned for the new trilogy-"
Egghhhh....
Totally.
should remake code veronica x
The H in “herb” is silent, my dude
That's the american pronunciation. There is no one universal way to say it, my dude.
Foxcade You sure sound like you have an American accent though, my guy
Canadian. And it really shouldnt matter. English is a weird language that doesnt make any sense.
I’ve played it many times. Playing on Hardcore is epic.
I find it problematic that RE2 didn't include romance options and representation for Living and Living Impaired relationships.
😂😂

"Chris...Stop it"
I completely wish there was an proper b scenario but I do want to point out that even in the orginal Claire and Leon solve the exact same puzzles and unlock the exact same door. Orginal will always be slightly better for having a proper b scenario but a lot of criticisms remake 2 gets the orginal already did.
could resident evil seven somehow be a kind of remake of resident evil four
I love the re2 remake I wasn't old enough to play the original so this is the closest I can get without buying an old system and hunting down a copy can't speak on experience from the original but if I do say so myself it is a phenomenal game and I have played all of them since the original on the ps1 my brothers old copy he had when it came out fooled my mom into getting it then she seen what it was lol he wasn't getting 2 😂
