I know! I was like, what the fuck. Why does it take so many headshots to kill a zombie. That really bugged me. RE is known for conserving your resources. I hope it's not like that in the final version.
This isn't a bad thing... It makes the game more tense and you have to decide whether to just try to avoid the zombie or waste your ammo. It ups the survival factor
Agreed lol. I was playing it 100% confident that one headshot would wipe zombies out. So when the first zombie busted through that door and took a shot straight to the head and then proceeded to bite my ass I just ran as fast as I could
I think that took everyone by surprise lol I'm not sure if it's going to stay like that or if it was specifically done for the demo. It'd make more sense if it was just done for the demo given the nature of it
Cesar Gatica It totally is a bad thing because it breaks immersion. It’s difficult enough to get a headshot but the fact that it takes so many to kill a zombie is just stupid. Really dumb design choice

Well done, man I would've liked some mention of the re4 shopkeeper guy - "what're'ya buyin'? What're'ya sellin'? Come back any time". One of the best ideas they ever had and never brought him back.
That idea was a disgrace for the concept of survival horror and you little gamers of this new gen of idiots don't even realize that, in the previous games you had limited ammo and you had to save it to survive, this was the main aspect of the survival horror and crapcom destroyed with the abominable RE4 and its sequels
I love the RE games, just got into it last year, usually, I dislike vids that are over 25-30 min long, but boy, do I love this video, with the two key key items used in this video, the amount of information of the lore, backstory, whatever you’ll choose, and how much I love RE, it’s so damn fun, and intense at times.
I was 16 when Resident Evil first came out on the PSX. I have been obsessed with the franchise since. Even read the books...I absolutely adored the series until it started not being the game I started playing. Somewhere between 4 & 5 I lost that feeling. It scratched an itch I never knew I had and gave me a feeling I don’t think I can ever get back. Everything you said in this video is pretty spot on. I really enjoyed 7 and it gave me hope for the future of the franchise. No co-op was also a huge win as it brought it back to the slow claustrophobic tension filled experience I fell in love with in the first place. I’m currently playing RE2 remake and it’s everything that I wanted it to be. I’m lucky to have this game right now but I’m still very curious as to where they go from here. Im good with a new game or even more remakes like this. Took Capcom the better part of a decade to get back on track but here we are, in a renaissance for Resident Evil, going back to its roots for inspiration as to where to go with the franchises future. P.S. I wouldn’t mind a fixed camera style game with updated control and graphics to really get back to the root feeling I use to have. May be in the minority but I don’t care.
Cory Adams I agree pretty much entirely with you. Although I was seven when the original came out. Awesome game and looked forward to watching my parents play every night.

Coconut and Water like Tomb Raider, the series that started at the same time and still go on now, they will both be milked to death until the studios stop making profit off of them.
@Radical Larry I’ll definitely say resident evil has been fairing better than tomb Raider lol plus capcom have been mixing things up a lot more well than square Enix with tomb raider. I actually enjoyed the RE2 and re3 remakes compared to shadow and rise of the tomb Raider. Plus the 2000’s were much better to resident evil than tomb Raider.

I love how Capcom actually adapts to what their fans want depending on the critics and sells, unlike more than a few big companies that are pretty set on pleasing unexisting audiences and ignoring their fans.
Me and my brother played re2 when we were about 10. The scariest part we ever played was down the hallway, where zombies were grabing you through the windows. We both froze for 10 seconds doing nothing just pissing our pants, we turned off the pc and went straight to bed right after that. I miss playing this game with my brother..
@RomeroFanboy doesn't every Resident Evil game have plotholes? Like. It's a quality game that harkens back to it's survival horror roots. Quit being a twat.
@RomeroFanboy Damn whats wrong with you. I don't like RE7 either but at least for a reasonable reason, its just not my cup of tea. Still a good game and its fun to watch but I can only play other Resident evils
When me and my friend popped this disc in for the first time in '96 we were so scared, and it was so difficult, but we knew it was a masterpiece. Neither of us wanted to be the one to quit, so we pulled through. We then beat R2 and Nemesis together. We ended up in different schools and I have not seen him since. I wonder if he kept playing the series on his own...
That's always sad I had some friends like that, lost touch with em after we beat 3. Always wondered too if they kept following it. We would of killed for the co-op games back in the day when he'd just watch me play thru the first 3
20:50 Actually, in the Gamecube version the camera is completly static, it only pins in the PC/XboxOne/PS4 remake's remastered versions, because it needs to be zoomed in to fit a widescreen res, so in many cases tha camera moves a little to keep the character in frame.
Thank you for that clarification, I did not know that! I only recorded the PC version when I worked on this one. Lately I'm been trying to record on original hardware first to avoid mistakes like this
Though the footage was from the HD remaster the original remake from the GC still looks fairly good, the REmake has aged far better than most other games its age. The REmake is still a masterpiece.
Both footages from remakes are from new ones not from the old ones (RE1 and RE0) in this video. Im very said that they didnt remastered RE2, I wanted the same game, not the new one. But probably the game will be awesome!!!
I like RE5 Chris and the game is fun and I like the coop. Though if it was more like RE4 in terms of puzzles and level design it’s would be much cooler.
I'm usually not one to dismiss an idea just because another channel did it - I usually feel like multiple channels covering the same concept can do very different things with them... but in this case, and speaking as a massive Silent Hill fan-nerd, I feel like the Twin Perfect channel has probably covered everything there is to cover regarding the history, production, themes, and content of the Silent Hill series. They have a literal 22-video long series covering basically every aspect of the games and movies + additional follow-up and revisited videos.

This is such an amazing review of all the resident evil games I know and love including the ones I hated.. Great job man I couldn't find a single argument point to what you said for each game. I believe RE7 and the Remake of RE2 is the gold standard for survival horror games in the modern world, I hope Resident Evil continues to create new stories and remasters old one for updated consoles. I would personally love to see a sequel to the story of Resident Evil 4 Staring my favorite character in the series Leon Kennedy. Thanks again man!
RE7 deserves credit just for its DLC alone. Really long playtime, and it all links in to the central story which is very well written. RE2 remake was also fantastic, but I have to say I preferred the whole mansion zombie fighting and getting chased by Mr X which was the main appeal for me. The sewers got kind of tired, as did the lab. I hope for the newer original titles like RE7 they continue with the first person perspective because it really heightens the fear factor and suspense. The remakes work well with the "over the shoulder" perspective because it looks and feels like a horror movie which they were pretty much based on.
@@TurboNutterBastard I'm just saying how unique it is to associate the feeling of nostalgia with something that is labelled as part of the horror genre. I.e. I don't think anyone has ever said "you know what makes me feel really nostalgic... The Exorcist". Horror and nostalgia are often never really associated, but Resident Evil is and it is unique in that regard.
I like how it was the first game to implement the player zapping mechanic where you can switch between Rebecca and Billy. Plus Dr. James Marcus was fucking creepy lol. Overall, I would say it's underrated as the horror elements were amplified in this prequel.

I’ll never forgot going over to my friends house in 2005 to see him playing Resident Evil 4. It was the first Resident Evil game I had ever seen and it really surprised me to see Leon get decapitated by the Verdugo. It was the most violent video game I had ever seen at that point. Definitely first time I saw someone lose a head. I’ve been a fan ever since. The over shoulder camera made the game the most enjoyable in my opinion. I could say I’m guilty of being a fan of the action oriented Resident Evil installments. I liked Resident Evil 5 but the daytime setting made it less enjoyable for me. I loved Resident Evil 6 because of the multiple storylines and new dodge and roll mechanics along with new melee styles. It felt to me like the apex of the Resident Evil games because of the freedom of character movement. I liked Resident Evil 7 but it felt really detached from the lore of the older games. I’ve really been digging the Resident Evil 2 remake. I feels like it’s the perfect combination of over the shoulder camera setting, limited item management, puzzle solving, and story placement in the series.
Sega Genesis was fairly violent. I remember playing a game banned all over the world. It was like a power ranger zord having a western shootout with giant monsters in a static-ish FPS playstyle. I remember shooting arms off of monsters and they-d throw em at me. .., also splatterhouse anynumber.
As someone who can remember how terrifying it was playing the original RE1 with my friend, in his parent's basement back in 1996, I feel obliged to say this was a very well put together video! Outstanding work!
Haha same! I remember playing it for the first time in my basement. I would have to play music on this old boom box I had down there to calm my nerves while playing!
@20:49 You mentioned in REmake that the camera pans slightly but actually it only does on the re release as the back drops are zoomed in and so could be panned. I believe the original cube version had no panning locations.
I think the Resident Evil remake on Gamecube is the best in the series. One of the few games I would rate 10/10. A truly sublime experience. That said Resident Evil 4 is also an incredible game in very different ways.
I’m just sad cause now everyone is gonna praise RE 2 remake and will over look the brilliance of the original Resident evil remake which imo is in the top 3 best RE games as is the RE 2 Remake 🌝👌🏼
@@journey95far49 re4 deff feels like a resident evil game lol. Just because it has a different camera angel and mechanics dosent make it not feel like a RE game. RE is all about atmosphere, feeling of being underpowered (which on your first playthrough you do) and puzzles. Re4 checks all boxes.
I remember back in 05 after my grandpas funeral me and a few of my cousins were playing re4 and my uncle came in the room and thought we were watching a movie because the graphics were so good
Re4 isnt my favorite. It's a worthy resident evil overall yea. But I hated what they did to Leon's character as a whole. In re2 he was a rookie cop just trying to do what he could to survive and help others and I liked him. So when I finally got through 4 I just felt like they made him a edgey character for the sake of current times at that time. Everyone around me was getting that haircut and brooding his attitude, and I just didnt see his character development going that direction. Had fun and such, but idk way they moved leon forward from 2 just rubbed me the wrong way.
Great video sir. I have to agree with the guy from the other comment this was by far the best and most informative RE video I have seen. I love love love RE 4 but I can't say much because it was the only one I've actually played through.
I really hope they keep alternating between games in the style of RE2 remake and RE7. Love both styles so much and I really feel like both are incredibly faithful to the series. I love the horror present in RE7 especially.
Now I do wish they remake the resident evil files. Now with character customize option. New map areas. There was a city or town next to raccoon city which we know little about.
The first RE was one of my all time favorite games and I really liked RE2 and RE3 of which I liked 3 better actually. I did like RE4 even though it was not really a RE style anymore imo. The rest of the series is forgetable for me. Until RE7 which was excellent even though it didnt feel like a part of the story line really. But Resident Evil 2 Remake was the best game since the original game to me. Absolutely stunning. I've played it over and over again and I would instantly buy a RE1 or RE3 remake of this current Capcom team. Btw. very solid review of the series. Well done!
The camera in REmake didn't pan originally on the Gamecube. That was just a compromise for the widescreen HD version, so they would not have to cut the upper and lower parts of the original 4:3 backgrounds. They did introduce panning shots in RE0, though.
Resident Evil 1996 was a watershed moment in how I viewed video games. The visuals, the music...I had never played anything like it before. When my friends and I rented our virgin PS1 from Blockbuster video on July 3, 1996, we picked out RE simply because of the box art, lol. There was nothing like playing RE after midnight, with friends, in a dark basement. What made the entire experience even more tense was the fact that we had no idea we needed a memory card and Blockbuster didn't rent cards, so every time we died we had to start the game over from the beginning. Such good times.
I was 10 when my older brother got this game. Watching him play and even having a few cracks at it myself was something special. There's just this feeling/experience that I don't think games can offer younger generations anymore.
Thank you so much for this very well made video. It covered all the important details and reaction of press and consumers, without loosing focus or being judgy. A real journalistic work.
I’ve got to say when I played RE4 for the first time it blew me away. It was resident evil JACKED AF. The new controls and cinematic game play was a welcome change for some time, when 6 arrived it had drifted too far. The remake of RE2 is brilliant, it’s mixed all the good parts together nicely.Good job 👍🏼
Bc Tendo i never played 6 because of the fact I thought 5 was a good way to end the series and maybe reboot it later. Of course instead of rebooting they made a sequel and rebooted a series that didn’t need it DMC

Just a slight correction here: There's a lot of conflicting articles that say "Code Veronica" is the true RE3, and others that say quite the opposite. From what I understand, RE3: Nemesis was indeed a side project, but Code Veronica was not necessarily intended to be Resident Evil 3 either. There was an intended Resident Evil 3 project starring "Hunk" but it was canned. If you all have heard information to the contrary, please reply here, I'm interested to learn more. Because of the supposed contract with Sony, there's a lot of confusion about this particular topic.
The game that you are talking about involving Hunk, I undestood to be one of the Resident Evil 4 iterations that got canned. I think there were three version of RE 4 , two fo them were scrapped before the final one was picked and one turned into DMC. I'll see if I can find some sources and either post them here or dm you. Oh and its my understanding that Code Veronica was meant to be Resident Evil 3 and as you stated Nemesis was a spin off.
@@MorpheussUK As far as I know, there were 4 versions of RE4: the first one, that became Devil May Cry, the fog version and the hook man version, that were scrapped, and The final version, that was released. This Hunk version was the initial idea for RE3. When the Project moved on to the PS2 (and thus renamed to RE4), this idea was scrapped.
@@Devouhan Yeah I'm still looking for some sourcers, but you know what its like. You read and watch a million things over the years and then you can't find it again when you need it XD
I think the issue with Code: Veronica (and why it kept it's development title as it's name) is that when the next Resident Evil was officially announced as being in the works, it was announced as a DreamCast exclusive. For a game that had debuted on the PlayStation. The PlayStation was easily the more popular console, so that didn't sit well with series fans. So you have Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, an attempt to split the difference. I think that's also the reason why Code: Veronica in spite of easily being as good as Resident Evil 1 or 2, isn't as beloved by franchise fans. :) BTW you have, hands down, *the* best Resident Evil retrospective on the net. Well done!
Never thought I’d hear the phrases “Resident Evil Remake” and “improved voice acting” but as Captain Price would say “it’s not hard to improve on garbage.”
I'm an odd one. I like RE1, RE2, and RE1 Remake. But I also like RE4, RE5, RE6, and had fun playing Operation Raccoon City. RE7 was good, but I didn't care for the characters, story, and the game really loses itself once you leave the Baker mansion, especially with the terrible enemy variety. As for RE2 Remake, I've really enjoyed it and would love Capcom to remake RE1, RE3, RECV, RE4, and RE5 in this style/engine. But, I don't like many if the cuts and changes Capcom did from the original RE2 game. Dream remakes would be Dino Crisis and Onimusha in the RE7 engine too.

When I shot a zombie in the head in RE2 (Remake) and it took 4 headshots to down, but then got back up and startled me and took another 2 headshots and a knife to kill it.... Yeah, I knew I was gonna have a fun/bad time.
It'd make more sense if it was just done for the demo given the nature of it
Cesar Gatica
It totally is a bad thing because it breaks immersion. It’s difficult enough to get a headshot but the fact that it takes so many to kill a zombie is just stupid. Really dumb design choice
I played RE2 when it came out. I was like 8yrs old and it scared the shit outa me. The thought of undead unkillable people eating me was horrifying, Idk how but me and my cousin finished the game. Took us about a month, lmao
similar story. i was probably 10 or 11. i was playing it alone in the dark around 1 in the morning when the first time you see the licker run across the window happened. nearly shit my pants. put it on hold until day time, but slowly worked my way through the game over the next month or so.

Heh heh. Whatre ya buyin?

Fixed Cameras would give the already photorealistic graphics a great boost.

Resident Evil Remake has no right to look that good. GameCube was a powerful little box.
Actually the GameCube was less powerful than the ps2 and og Xbox. It was all the doing of capcom

The footage in this video is from the remasters of RE0 and REmake. The GC releases look rough these days especially when ran at the GC's low native resolution.
So how many RE games do you intend to release?
Capcom: yes
hahaha seriously its kind of ridiculous but so glad of the direction they are going now
Coconut and Water like Tomb Raider, the series that started at the same time and still go on now, they will both be milked to death until the studios stop making profit off of them.
Plus the 2000’s were much better to resident evil than tomb Raider.
crapcom will release any random crap so why bother to know that?

I love how Capcom actually adapts to what their fans want depending on the critics and sells, unlike more than a few big companies that are pretty set on pleasing unexisting audiences and ignoring their fans.
Me and my brother played re2 when we were about 10. The scariest part we ever played was down the hallway, where zombies were grabing you through the windows. We both froze for 10 seconds doing nothing just pissing our pants, we turned off the pc and went straight to bed right after that. I miss playing this game with my brother..

When me and my friend popped this disc in for the first time in '96 we were so scared, and it was so difficult, but we knew it was a masterpiece.

History of Silent Hill next?
@Griever this history of series isnt dependent on stories being connected.
It's simply too depressing...but perhaps shedding light on it could ignite people's hopes once more. Would Konami notice?
Omg yes!

@Reggielacey 223 5 and 6 are the worst in the series, both totally unforgettable, you have no taste whatsoever
The very first one is on its own class just unreachable again... The music, the atmosphere and setting was just perfect matched
Now this is a video worth watching. 10/10 will watch again
8:51 My dad rented it when it was brand new. He completed it in only a few days.

I think Resident Evil is unique in how it is one of those rare instances where something horror related is associated with "nostalgia".
If it's a good game and you played it when you were younger why would it matter what genre it is?
@@TurboNutterBastard I'm just saying how unique it is to associate the feeling of nostalgia with something that is labelled as part of the horror genre. I.e. I don't think anyone has ever said "you know what makes me feel really nostalgic... The Exorcist". Horror and nostalgia are often never really associated, but Resident Evil is and it is unique in that regard.
It’s just me but zero was my favorite no doubt. Loved everything about that game.
I like how it was the first game to implement the player zapping mechanic where you can switch between Rebecca and Billy. Plus Dr. James Marcus was fucking creepy lol. Overall, I would say it's underrated as the horror elements were amplified in this prequel.
Resident evil 1 on the ps 1 was my favourite!! I'd never seen a game like it at the time and I was hooked. I still like it to this day because it reminded me of the hours I played of the game brilliant
RE1 is the hardest and has the best atmosphere. My favourite too!

It didn't matter to me. I love them all. i bought them all on my PS3.
Dude you gave an awesome, cool, and short story of every single RE game, even ones I forgot they existed.

I really hope they keep alternating between games in the style of RE2 remake and RE7. Love both styles so much and I really feel like both are incredibly faithful to the series. I love the horror present in RE7 especially.
Resident Evil 2 Remake is a masterpiece... this is what everyone has been waiting for.... for YEARS.. this is how every RE game should be!
Not really. It'd look better if they implemented fixed camera. Just like the original Re2.
This was absolutely amazing, well done.
That good looking guy in the thumbnail gave the worst nightmares of my youth.

I’ve got to say when I played RE4 for the first time it blew me away. It was resident evil JACKED AF. Just a slight correction here:
There's a lot of conflicting articles that say "Code Veronica" is the true RE3, and others that say quite the opposite.
@@MorpheussUK lol exactly
Well done!

I swear RE1 remake and RE Zero have better graphics than RE4 and 5. It blows my mind.
@DejaVoodooDoll This. The lack of proper lighting probably went to the textures and models.
Yes. Yes they do. It's like 90% of the reason 4 is my least fav. Good game but garbage as a RE game in my opinion.
One more day and a wake up .... wow ...can't wait !
Itchieban1 lol you must have gone to jail that’s what they say in jail
@@bishopcoe4480 They also say that in the Armed Forces for which I served for 12 years ... lol
Great video. I’ve been a fan of the series since the very first, thank you for the trip down memory lane:)
The memories of renting these games from a video store on the weekend with your friends. Hard to believe it's over 20 years ago.
Do the history of mortal kombat
In the works :)
Why? It's nothing to review. Just players fighting each other.....THATS IT
@@thatonedude926 It's has a story
@@thatonedude926 And this series is just shooting zombies... you can make everything seem stupid simple if you put it that way.
Mortal Kombat has an interesting history in the gaming industry, and has existed for decades and has changed substantially.
@@Nick930 maybe if I didn't suck at fighting games I'd probably know about the story lol
I remember playing dead aim the first time with my brother and we finished in 1 day we just thought we could speedrun it and we ended up finishing the game like in a couple of hours lol
Cant wait till next week. Resident evil 4 truly is one of the greatest games ever made. I never got to play through re2 so itll be pretty new to me.
4 had a few great moments but.. Overall no. Just had really smooth gameplay.
I keep rewatching this cause this documentary is so fucking good, Nick.
I know this is about Resident Evil but man when you said Socom you brought back some memories. Completely forgot about that series.
