When I had mct I'd always use it in my first meal, breaking usually a 15 or 16 hour TRE... and I never felt bad. I think it's because (1) I used only 5 g and (2) together with a LOT of food that was full of fibre and stuff. I guess it's a problem to have it in the first meal with coffee or pure because then yes... it will shock the gut. Plus coffee is a gut irritant. I think something that needs to be considered with MCT oil is that it is HIGHLY capable of breaking things down, especially when hot. I've read some online posts about it eating styrofoam coffee cups (literally bursting through burning someone's hand), causing coffee lidds to crack and leak/wear thin over time, eating the paint/ink off of measuring cups (i've observed this myself just after a couple of uses), and I myself have been having it in hot coffee and my teeth are wearing thinner and getting sensitive. I don't think anyone should be having any MCT oil unless it comes in a glass bottle, and also I wouldn't let it get above 130 degrees at max. I decided to switch to butter in my coffee this morning without any MCT oil and I feel amazing. I'm wondering how much plastic is in my system both from the bottle it sits in and from my blender and coffee tumbler as well. I think blending it up with cold coffee is the only way it should be used in coffee.
Coconut oil (60% mct) is pretty heat stable. Infact in coastal areas in South Asia it is used for cooking for several centuries. The point is it's not as heat stable as ghee but we can still use it for light cooking
A good MCT will be void of lauric acid, which is what those 60% predominantly are made of. This is why the heat stability of mcts in the market cannot be compared to regular coconut oil
Oh wow! Good to know! I was breaking my fasts with MCT!😲 Thanks for the info! I had heard about not getting MCT too hot. That is so important, too! Great video!
I’ve been tracking vLDL and LDL for years. vLDL and LDL markers both don’t necessarily go up. vLDL measures the size of your LDL cholesterol. If you are keto you will have higher LDL by proxy that doesn’t mean the size of your LDL increases. If you are actually doing Keto your LDL is high but your vLDL should be low. You can calculate vLDL by Triglycerides divided by 5. The healthy range is 2-28. If your vLDL is in a healthy range then your LDL number don’t matter!
So im attempting the 18 / 6 intermittent fasting but I have coffee in the morning , occasionally with MCT Oil . So this is wrong ? No MCT oil until second meal say between 4pm and 6pm ? There are too many rules to this.....
Been making mayo with avocado oil, then noticed the MCT oil in the door of the fridge was coming up fast on the BB date. As expected, the substitution went smoothly . . .
i think MCT oil IS very valuable when transitioning into fasting when you haven't hit ketosis on your own but want ketones in your body to fuel your brain.
Dr. Berg said MCT oil and coco oil (bulletproof coffee) doesn't break the fast. He also said to put it into the coffee while it's still hot and then mix. I'm confused
As Mr DeLauer said in this video, he is not a doctor just some guy on the internet. I don't think the title in Dr Berg's name is an accident, on the other hand. I say judge accordingly. That being said, Dr Berg was referring to carb intake, i.e. keeping your insulin level low by not consuming carbs while fasting so that you are burning fat instead. That's how I understand it, anyway.
Dr Rhonda patrick says never use anything containing calories. Only plain water is ok and one cup of black coffee for energy. but dont over do because fasting is sensitive.
Great advice. I do low carb and put Mct oil in my coffee mid morning before I work out. I love the way it makes me feel. Super focused. Thomas is this an ok way to use Mct?
Thanks again for another great informatuve video. Question.. How long does it take to become fat adapted so your liver is producing ketones so I know when I should start taking that?
I learnt not to break my fast with MCT oil recently when I drank 15 mg straight down and had a howling belly ache for the first time in my life (and I'm 79!). I was nauseous for the rest of the day.
Learning a lot watching all of your informative videos! I just watched another video of yours recommending to break a fast with Keto coffee(coffee+MCT oil+ghee). However, in this video you are saying that breaking a fast with MCT oil should be avoided. I am a bit confused...🤯
MCT Oil can be used for low to mid temperature cooking. The smoke point of MCT oil is 320°F, which is lower than it's cousin coconut oil, who's smoke point is 350°F. Anything above 320°F will start to damage the fats, making the powers of MCT oil less potent. I bake with MCT oil all the time but I’m careful with it 😊
So confused I saw in another video it was good to have in morning with coffee and to take electrolytes at the same time. I am currently fasting 18-20 hrs. Fast with Keto. 🤷♀️Please help
Mostly carnivore , now that I know this ( have always put in my morning coffee when brewed) so now we are not supposed to do that or break fast with that....what good is it, I load butter with all my meals , usually eating only lunch and dinner...I see no point in adding this now at all. Does anyone know if it is needed? Originally I thought good for coffee, ok while fasting, helps stay in ketosis, prevents hunger. All of which I learned from this channel. Very confused.
I am also very confused. I take it because of him, Dr Berg and Dr Eckbreg… now DeLauer says not in the mornings? In fact I was surprised that people complained about stomach issues with MCT as I started straight with a whole tablespoon in my black coffee. One day I had it along with breakfast and I got some stomach pain .. I won’t have MCT oil after breakfast. No toilet issues either!
Thanks! Needed the temperature info, and timing of using MCT for energy. I got to my goal weight then gained 10 lbs back. I'm suspecting my KETO sweeteners as making me want to eat more than I should, and too much healthy fats also.
hi from Oz , just subscribed 😊 would love to know how to tak this oil to aid weight loss please 😊just bought some today, and also new to keto and learning this new lifestyle 😊thanks for your info
The commonly accepted definition of breaking a fast is when your insulin is spiked after eating or drinking. 2fitdocs have several videos of them taking insulin readings before and after drinking bullet proof coffee. when there was a change, it was negligible.
I greatly appreciate your videos and find that you talk to me when I'm grocery shopping, cooking, or using MCT oil. You might check out recent research on MCT helping dementia patients if you haven't already. MCT makes a great massage oil. Owning a wellness center, we've found that it works wonders for our client's skin. We ran out of the commercial massage oil and used MCT oil until the supply arrive. I don't know of any research, but it might be interesting to know if MCT oil is absorbed by the skin. And, there's a huge savings when bought in bulk.
VERY informational video! Thank you so much. I'll add my heavy cream to cool down the hot coffee before the MCT oil from now on. So glad to know more from what you shared about this amazing oil.
Dr. Ekberg that is one of the most nown for his nowledg for fasting sais that MCT Oil can be very good for braking the fast. I wil also use my home made kefir.
Can I drink ketones during a fast, such as a product called Pruvit? Sugar free sweetened w/ Stevia. There supposed to be bio-identical ketones. Any info on this? Thank you!! I’m trying to get my Keto lifestyle under control and do it properly! Blessings!

I want to Heal my brain so I can work and support myself. Do you think the MCT OIL will help heal my brain? Also I had my gallbladder removed in 1999.......is it ok to take the MCT OIL when I don’t have a gallbladder?
My question is this. If MCT oil has the same Fatty Acid Composition as Straight Organic Coconut Oil. So why should I buy another differently packaged Coconut Oil?
Dr. Berg suggested replacing breakfast with a bulletproof coffee, but you're saying no to that. My question is what should I use to replace my breakfast so I can keep my intermittent fast going till noon when I eat my 1st meal?
If you eat breakfast, regardless of what it is you eat, youre technically no longer in a fasting state. I would suggest not to eat till noon if ultimately, your goal is to…fast.
What if you have only 2 meals per day. Breakfast around 12 and lunch/ dinner 6 pm. What is the best time to have mct oil? Is it better with coffee or green tea?
Yeah I was planning on adding some to my ACV and lemon juice early in the morning when I wake while still fasted right before heading to the gym. I guess I can't.
Actually I hadn't considered half of these things. Thanks so much for raising the point. Good clear information thanks so much 👍

I love all your videos and they help me alot dude.. BUT this video is SUPER contradictory to alot of your other videos n makes me wonder wtf...
Is having this in the morning with my cofee while in keto fine? You said not to break fast with it
Beautifully explained. Thank you for your helpful, plain-spoke way, of relating this information. Peace and blessings…..
“Fragile things aren’t bad” thank you for recognizing
Oh wow! Good to know! I was breaking my fasts with MCT!😲
Thanks for the info!
I had heard about not getting MCT too hot. That is so important, too!
Great video!
I have a powdered version of MCT oil in my pantry. How do you feel about powdered MCT oil?
see link to the brand he uses. It has powdered version =)
So, if you are cooking with coconut oil, are you destroying the good MCT oil in it, or do the rest of the components of the coconut oil protecting it?
I’ve been tracking vLDL and LDL for years. vLDL and LDL markers both don’t necessarily go up. vLDL measures the size of your LDL cholesterol. If you are keto you will have higher LDL by proxy that doesn’t mean the size of your LDL increases. If you are actually doing Keto your LDL is high but your vLDL should be low. You can calculate vLDL by Triglycerides divided by 5. The healthy range is 2-28. If your vLDL is in a healthy range then your LDL number don’t matter!
Whoa I need to change my coffee routine, been putting it in immediately after brewing, now gonna wait til the end when it's a lot less hot
If you are fasting 8/16, can you have Keto coffee in the morning during the fasting period. I eat from 12.00pm to 8.00pm
I thought he was a doctor! He should be…he seems to know a lot of how things work. God bless you !🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
I just started taking this. Can I mix it with water? I would appreciate an answer to this question. Thank you!
Thanks for the video, can we use mct oil to lower our LDL and triglyceride level? How to use it properly? Thanks.
So im attempting the 18 / 6 intermittent fasting but I have coffee in the morning , occasionally with MCT Oil . So this is wrong ? No MCT oil until second meal say between 4pm and 6pm ? There are too many rules to this.....
I agree with you 100%. I do a fast everyday and dont eat a 2nd meal. I bought it yesterday and it looks like I wasted 20 bucks
Should I be adding "vital proteins" collagen to my keto coffee? Its zero carb zero sugar and mixes instantly.
Word of advice if it's your first time trying mct oil expect discomfort in the stomach and diarrhea...
Been making mayo with avocado oil, then noticed the MCT oil in the door of the fridge was coming up fast on the BB date. As expected, the substitution went smoothly . . .
Same here.
i've been making almond butter with MCT oil! so satisfying :)
Thomas - what about sun warrior protein which has 16g of protein AND 4g of MCT’s? Thank you 🙏🏻
i am wondering too. he says you can break your fast with it….hmm
i think MCT oil IS very valuable when transitioning into fasting when you haven't hit ketosis on your own but want ketones in your body to fuel your brain.
What if im doing OMAD? When should I take MCT oil?
Thank you Thomas! Implementing a few changes with my MCT oil after this vid
I heard hot coffee breaks down the mct oil. It could be good for iced coffee tho. The best just kills it
Thanks again for another great informatuve video.
Wow the coffee I do that all the time. Thanks for info
I got a bit confused because in one of your videos a few years ago you said to break your fast with MCT oil for fat lost.
Right
If you watch him enough you will see he does this all the time. He sound like he knows what he is talking about when you are new.
I know exactly the video you're referencing, because I've watched it and lived by it for awhile.
He also said to fast WITH it in one video 🤦🏻♀️
To all the haters, you may not know this but science changes all the time, it is called evolution. New published studies come up with new data.
Thanks for this info. I have used it in my bulletproof coffee but just after pouring in the boiling water. Won't be doing that again!
Learning a lot watching all of your informative videos!
I just watched another video of yours recommending to break a fast with Keto coffee(coffee+MCT oil+ghee). However, in this video you are saying that breaking a fast with MCT oil should be avoided. I am a bit confused...🤯
You're not the only one confused.
Me too! Make up your mind. I found out the hard way not to take it while fasting!
Same here! I started breaking my fast with keto coffee but now he’s saying not to. Does anyone know which way is best?
So if you can't take it in bullet proof coffee in the morning to extend the fast, what good is it?
Actually, I found that there are between 110 to 130 calories per tablespoon depending on the brand. Great information Thomas, Thank you. ☺️😊😊❤️
can i use it while am not following a keto diet? if yes, when is the right time?
Thanks for the info on MCT oil. I was wondering what you normally eat and drink to break a fast? Thanks 😊
I use MCT oil couple times for baking Keto brownies and Banana Bread Loaf for my family… also with my hot coffee…oooopppsss!!! Thanks for the info..
FINALLY!!!!!!
Use as A Supplement! With A PLAN for Usage!!!!!!
Guilty of putting it in my empty cup then fill the cup.....my bad....good to know
Thank you Thomas for your excellent advice.
I'm confused too...thomas does that
Does MCT oil Stop HGH or reduce it because that's what I fast for.
Thanks! Needed the temperature info, and timing of using MCT for energy. I got to my goal weight then gained 10 lbs back. I'm suspecting my KETO sweeteners as making me want to eat more than I should, and too much healthy fats also.
So it's quite good to end a eating Window with mct oil?
How about MCT w/ oatmeal (non-fasted) , or w/ a veggie/protein smoothie post IF workout?
hi from Oz , just subscribed 😊 would love to know how to tak this oil to aid weight loss please 😊just bought some today, and also new to keto and learning this new lifestyle 😊thanks for your info
Wow. Thanks. I been taking it in hot coffee. Thanks!
Thank you Thomas. I needed to hear and see your usefull instruction on MCT oil.
The commonly accepted definition of breaking a fast is when your insulin is spiked after eating or drinking. 2fitdocs have several videos of them taking insulin readings before and after drinking bullet proof coffee. when there was a change, it was negligible.
Q...... Hold on!.... Ive been putting it in my protein shakes... is this alright or all wrong too?
Blessings!
I went through Strong Chemo 7 years ago for breast cancer and I have not been able to work I have Chemo Brain and so I started taking MCT OIL - to help Heal my Chemo Brain. I want to Heal my brain so I can work and support myself. Do you think the MCT OIL will help heal my brain?
Also I had my gallbladder removed in 1999.......is it ok to take the MCT OIL when I don’t have a gallbladder?
Should i not take unless in keto? I am trying to be healthier had bypass surgery and drinking when apple ciders
What about pulling mct right from the jug? Asking for a friend....
Signed, 𝘍𝘙𝘐𝘌𝘕𝘋
What if you have only 2 meals per day. Breakfast around 12 and lunch/ dinner 6 pm. What is the best time to have mct oil? Is it better with coffee or green tea?
How much MCT oil should you have a day when on Keto? I'm 7 weeks in.
Sun warrior plant based protein powder has mct in it. Should I not break a fast with that ?
Awww man I take it with my acv and collagen in the morning after fasting sooo confused lol
Yeah I was planning on adding some to my ACV and lemon juice early in the morning when I wake while still fasted right before heading to the gym. I guess I can't.
