This is helpful. I've been wanting to start intermittent fasting but my big barrier is that I take a medication in the morning (exactly 12 hrs from the evening dose) that is fat-soluble, requiring that I take it with fat. I always thought this meant that I can never do I.F., but recently I've been trying MCT oil alone as my morning fat source and I think it's working! I'm getting many of the benefits of I.F. even thought I'm technically breaking my fast. I've also noticed that if I eat any other fat, like 1 tbsp of butter with the AM med, it triggers a hunger drive, which MCT doesn't seem to do. I just wanted to post this in case others are in the same boat.

I take no meds and have no health problems…. Keto days 4 outta 7 ( 3 carb days) metabolically flexible is a bonus for me… weight finally stable

@@dylanfredrick8393 he never says what you should do, he just points out to studies, like every new study it is still in the peer review phase, so, after a while the data starts to repeat, that is the one that is more likely to be true for everyone, also, there is not good and bad here, is good and better, you can't implement everything at once, that would be nuts, the tldr for what to do for keto and if, do Mediterranean keto and do some 16h fast every once in a while, not too frequently or changing breakfast and dinner as the skipped meal constantly, that is enough, the rest are things that make marginal improvements compared to this, good to know, but not too relevant for most people.

    • @alenasenie6928

@@susanh6807 I honestly think he puts so little info in every video, I understand why (papers have a lot of testing and not very long conclusions) but it is very basic info, super easy to follow, and I dont have a healthcare professional background, only school biology, one of my teachers explained to us why the keto diet worked for fat loss, that was even before it was called keto at large, she explained how the digestion of fats also take more energy than the digestion of carbs, so, at the same calorie level the body naturally worked more and liberated more heat, and our body takes that and created the carbs it needed, separating the fats, instead of using it directly, like carbs, that was before it was widely known all the other ways it helped (this was like 15 years ago)

Coffee should be below 150 degrees fahrenheit. At 150, the temperature screws with the mct and can also cause stomach upset. If you can't wait for it to cool before adding, I just add a little extra cold water to my black coffee, which drops the temperature down about 10 degrees, to approximately 135-140 Fahrenheit.

I fast from 6pm to 8am everyday and add 1 teaspoon of MCT powder and 1 teaspoon of coconut oil in my last meal, and around 9pm or so, i notice what feels like growth hormones every time. Not sure what is going on, but feel 20 years younger. Also noticed i am not hungry at all anymore,, i only eat now to get my minerals. The first week i lost 3 belt notches, and now it stabilized off. I am sure i could do a 24 hour fast and not even feel hunger. Typical meals: 8am - Steak, Egg, & Cheese sub; lunch - Chopped steak and salad, dinner: Chopped chicken, beans, slaw, mct powder, coconut oil. No snacks in between.

I have an electric milk frother so most mornings I froth up heavy cream and MCT oil to add to my coffee. I don't remember having a bad reaction to MCT oil but I was eating keto for a while before I added it. I found that I would have ketones of around 2 later in the day so I think it worked for ketosis as well. I have been adding a 17 to 36 hour fast once a week lately, but with the caveat of having one or two MCT coffees in that time. Not exactly a fat fast as the internet defines but not exactly a true fast.

I need at least 48-72h to get my mmol beyond 1.0. And after a meal (under 20g carbs and max 1g/kg prot) i drop to 0.5mmols. To keep a high average of mmols throughout the week, I’d need a 96h fast to reach around 3mmols and then keep it well below the 50g carb mark. Is this normal?
I understand that mct can boost ketone levels. But doesn’t it hinder the body’s own production of ketones? Besides health and longevity, I’m keto mainly to get to 8-10% body fat (currently at 15%) and also keeping a good performance at the gym (weight training) and on the bike (2x3h / week at intermediate/advanced level). Some folks claim the amt of MCT's in coco oil is not high enough like we were told. MCT oil is composed of MCTs, the medium chain fats, caprylic and capric acid, about 50% of each, whereas these two MCTs make up only like 10% of the coconut oil. Most of coconut oil is the cholesterol-raising longer-chain saturated fats, lauric and myristic.
