Honestly, I could watch you cook for hours. I really have been binged-watching your videos. Your food looks absolutely beautiful and makes me happy to start trying some of your recipes. Thank you for all that you do to show us what real plant-based, whole food looks like and how you make it delicious!
This video was hilarious and just such fun to watch. Thank you. Please know your videos raise this person's spirits and probably many, many more people.
I’m really grateful to be born and live in Indonesia because tempe is so affordable-only about 5,000 rupiah (around 0.32 USD) per block. And despite the low price, it’s packed with protein.
Dude this is the first time coming across one of your videos and I have to say it’s some of the most stellar cooking related content I’ve seen. This video was so full of little tidbits that make it accessible, useful, and engaging. From advice on prepping for different group sizes or as meal prep, to optional steps to elevate the final product, there was even a mini cast iron maintenance tutorial sprinkled throughout. This is on top of what would have already been a good video for a quality recipe. The fact that I get to watch something this good without a paid subscription is kinda unreal.
Spandau Ballet??!! You just brought me back to high school, in the best way! Loved this video. Frankie did not disappoint and the food looks great too!
I cook with Tempeh all the time and have done so for years. I used to live near a natural food market where it was available all the time. Then I moved to a small rural village and had to special order it by the case from a willing local cafe owner. She would keep it in her ice cream freezer for a day or two until I could pick it up. Now local stores are carrying it as a routine item so getting it is once again easier. The impact of plant based eating has filtered even into some of the rural areas of Canada. Thanks again for your videos. They always make me hungry.
This video is such a vibe. And with "True" by Spandau Ballet❓️❗️😃 The garden, the beautiful dog.... yes, Yes, and YES❗️🥰 And of course the food and education. Love it❗️🧡
@@baggiebirdrants Come on, True is such a mood. Spandau Ballet can be fun, a little bit of pop with a touch of punk. Enjoy the decadence without anyone getting hurt, my friend🖤

Having a chef for a dad has really refined Frankie's taste. Yes to tempeh, no to veggie water.😋 Not only do I love watching you cook, I really love how much you enjoy your food! Bon appetite 😘
I recently discovered your videos and love them all. I've been a vegetarian for 15 years and a full vegan for the past three years, and I really appreciate your great tips and techniques, which come in handy because I now cook basically twice a day. Your kind style and excellent doggo are added bonuses!
I have a block of tempeh staring at me every time I open my fridge I couldn’t decide what I wanted to do with it. That riddle is now solved 😁 cheers Derek 👍🏽
You do such a great job on everything. My ex is from Indonesia and would make Tempeh, often on bamboo skewers. I never cared for it but the way you made it here looks delicious. I am, and will be a continuous viewer. I like to cook and will be making lots of your sauces and marinades. I'm in Washington County, PA. There's a couple here who have started a micro-greens farming business and they deliver! And, I also found an amazing mushroom farmer in Georgia. With both I can get bi-weekly auto-ship deliveries. It's going to be a healthy (& tasty) new year for me, for animals and, for the planet. Love what you and your brother do Derek. Thank you.
I could watch Derek cook and prepare food all day long!!! I love everything about this video... the filming...editing...sound effect... voice over narration by Franky... and of course the food!!! All of it, YUMMY!!! Derek, you rock!!! ❤❤❤
Not only a gorgeous plate buuut looks delicious! Tempeh is soo dang versatile-sky is the limit on what you can do with it. Another winner Derek and Frankie coming through with her opinions is grand too😂
This is the first video of yours I've seen, but watching it really reminds me of my parents. They were both professional chefs. My mom passed recently, and the way you talk about keeping it simple and how you eventually just get a feel for cooking reminds me of learning to cook with her. My dad's still kickin, though he's retired from the kitchen at this point; I should give him a call later. Anyway, great video, I will definitely be watching more!
Solid recipe. Thanks, Derek. Perfect spicy/sweet sauce, and the blackened cabbage was great too. I added sliced water chestnuts to the tempeh at the end and I'm pretty stoked with how that adjustment complimented the rest of this dish.
Derek! I love that you cut the tempeh in triangle. I don't know the cooking reason for it, but here, in Central Java where tempeh is originally from, we cut the tempeh in triangle to show that it's ~fancy~. The best tempeh I have eaten out is usually cut in triangle shapes too and fried to beautiful brown (usually as extra side dishes on soto places). You've earned my stamp of approval as a tempeh person from the birthplace of tempeh! Hahaha.
I just found you today and totally went down the rabbit hole with at least a dozen videos! I have come to vegan cooking for medical reasons but I love lots of veggies so not a problem. I'm psyched to make this as I haven't tried tempeh yet. Also jazzed to get schooled on mushrooms! I like your down-to-earth style. I'm glad you'll be back in the States. I can't wait to see where you roam! My part of PA could use more restaurants offering great vegan options.
I had given up on store bought tempeh. But then I tried your tempeh technique today. Thank you for not just sharing recipes, but also teaching details, safety, technique, and life skills!❤
I don’t know what I enjoy more… watching you cook or how you love Frankie. ❤️just keep making fabulous plant based meals and watch the world slowly, lovingly and gracefully fall in to the deliciousness!
I just want you to know how viscerally appealing some of the sounds in this video are. When the greens got torn off, rolled, and chopped I was in my own kitchen rinsing a bowl. The sound was so delicious that I turned off the water, backtracked the video, and then found myself intensely craving salad.
😂These videos just keep getting better and better. Thank you for being a voice of reason and a light that shines brightly.❤ Frankie, you’re such a good girl!!❤❤❤😊

Your videos make my day! Love the voices not to mention the recipes. Thank you for making my food experience more pleasurable! Hugs to you and Miss Frankie! 💚
Hi, Derek. I have been searching for some vegan recipes and that’s how I am gratefully find your channel. Keep doing awesome and even amazed how you present “tempeh” with your interpretation. It looks stunning and honored to see my staple food being beautifully honored in such way. I was born in Java, an island where tempeh is originated from. Actually, you can do a simple way to enjoy tempeh by marinating it with a garlic + salt + coriander seeds + warm water. Let the tempeh marinated within the “pesto” for about 20 minutes. Then simply fried it. It is a beautiful snack of “tempeh chips”. 🎉🍵🧈
100% my kind of meal with an elevated flavor profile, for sure. LOVE tempeh. Tried the turmeric rice from your Bedrock Cooking video tonight (& garlic green beans with toasted sunflower seeds and sliced garden tomatoes) and that rice is the BOMB! I am watching every video of yours now. Focus on greens is awesome and you and Frankie are entertaining, too. Many thanks!
I make sure I'm good and full before I watch your videos because I always want what you're making. However.... my mouth is still watering after watching this. Tempeh never gooded so good and those greens....... YUM!!! Another winner!
I have never seen tempeh in blocks that size before. Is that source locally to you? I only find it in the local grocery and it is only a half inch thick. There are a couple of shops that make fresh tofu near me but nobody that make tempeh that I know of. I'd like to try making it but have too many projects unfinished to start a new one. Your videos are amazing and we use your recipes often. Thank you so much for being a great resource and a caring human.
Thank you for devoting your time in creating delicious recipes. Its shocking what you can eat, with plants, so many varieties. I have been cooking myself, since I was a weeeeeeeeeeee lad, and transitioned to eating plants about 6 years ago. I am 33, and it was the best decision I have made in my life. I have cooked thousands of satiating food, and you can get all the umami flavors and textures. I rarely eat out, and when I do, I am reminded I am a better chef. It would be privilege one day, to cook for you, or to try your lions mane steak'. Thank you.
Tempeh is sooooo good and this looks INCREDIBLE. I screamed, "What!?" so loud when you peeled the ginger with a spoon in the first 30 seconds, my partner thought someone died. 🤣
Loved the video! I particularly like how you show all the techniques for prepping ahead of time for "service" - brilliant! Thanks for also showing how to elevate to restaurant quality. This is right up my alley! You just keep getting better every day, Derek! Thanks for all you do!
Thank you so much for sharing your joy and cooking and Frankie! Yours is my absolute favorite cooking channel and Instagram feed. Thank you thank you thank you. You make the world a better place. ♥️ I'm sure you had fresh tempeh back in Portland Oregon. If you haven't tried making it yourself give it a whirl! Fresh chickpea tempeh is divine. So many possibilities!
This was so good! I saved some of the tempeh (unmarinated) and seasoned it with your garlic herb nooch recipe this morning, grilled it with vegan cheese and made a breakfast burrito with the greens from this recipe as well. Great dinner, great breakfast, keep em coming!
I love your videos so much that I end my day with one or two - They are so comforting and full of great info. I’m not even a vegan (yet 💗). Please don’t stop. Love to Frankie!
AWESOME!!!! I love that you love what you make and the delight and supreme satisfaction of flavor registers so perfectly on your face. I have never had Tempeh not for any reason other than, I wasn't sure how to use it - now I know! Excellent, thank you so, so much!!!
Much mazel from Portland, Oregon! My wife is vegan and I'm good with any healthy food. She pointed me towards your videos. We both enjoy watching you cook. Also love your lab. My last pup was a black lab. Today we are the founders and caregivers of Emerald's Ark Feral Cat Sanctuary. Best wishes.
Loving these vids with methods to make things just a bit easier. I’ve found that bc of health reasons, I generally do the same…prep, cook onions down, marinate…all can be done in steps and break up the process. Sure wish we could source tempeh blocks (and mushrooms) like those in US. Might just be my part of US, but only tempeh I’ve found is bout 1/2 thick, cryo wrapped and maybe 8oz? I enjoy eating it for change, but haven’t found the boiling technique made much difference for me. Love the music, gentle flow of the process and Frankie right there to assist! Thanks for another great one Derek! The inspiration is so helpful! 🙏🏻🫶🏻✌🏻xx
I *knew* we would soon be shown some new techniques, and I don't mean cooking. Fantastic! Excellent track selection as usual! A wonderful blend of comedy, relationship drama, cookery class, music video, TikTok moments, editing magic. A demonstration of what is possible in the kitchen. Smiles all round, and in this one, Frankie will NOT be receiving any nominations for "best cameo", oh no, not now you are her best supporting character!💚
Your artistic chopping and cleaning that cutting board and, of course, Frankie!!! Gets my mind off flipping US politics for a while!!! Plus, I LOVE TEMPEH so much and I see Miss Frankie does as well!
I loved cooking green cabbage in the same way! never tried it with purple cabbage, also never knew anyone else in the world ever cooked dry fried cabbage, first time checking out your videos, awesome video.
This is a great video! I eat/cook with tempeh all the time and have to mention that I have never seen tempeh that looks as appetizing as what you used. I always find the flat, vacuum wrapped stuff at any of my local shops. I'll have to search wider. That peeling the ginger with a spoon thing was next level wizardry.
Thanks again for this new recipe - I prepared everything (didn’t take long, very easy) and will finish tonight; smells amazing and the sauce (I took less chillies, to be honest) is incredibly delicious !
For some reason I feel like I remember the recipe more when I'm just watching these mostly quiet videos from the talking ones. I made one of your recipes today and didn't even look at the video while doing it. I kind of just got the gist of it, turned out great
I love spring greens and cavolo nero so will definitely try this recipe. That sweet and spicy sauce looks so good. I could put it on an old boot and be happy to try eating it.
This is your best video by far! The voiceover for Frankie and the beginning in mirror followed by the perfect song and of course the snapping of the tongues, then the sunlight moment. All with a delicious recipe.😋 Thank you for sharing your talents😊
I made this tonight and it was divine. A few subs based on what I had in the garden (I only had white cabbage) and kitchen (I had no star anise so used some chinese 5 spice) and it all worked out well. This is a real keeper.
Even if I don’t make the recipe I always click on your newest videos. It feels like catching up with a good friend who calls to catch up and fills your bucket, all my best to beloved Frankie 🎉❤

What a great video - the cooking, the music, Frankie. And it looks freakin delicious. I am one of those who has yet to try tempeh, but I think you have tipped the scales.
Tempeh ! Love it. If any of You are in Maine check out Tooties tempeh. New product made right here in Biddeford. Unbelievable, best I’ve ever had. Not fermented in plastic. No need to boil. Pan fried in olive oil ,salt and pepper and it’s bangin.
I haven't been scared to cook tempeh but my early experiences with it were not good. Then I see you cook it and think, maybe it's time to try again. I think maybe the parboil will make a difference for me.
I love how you relish your food! That plate looked fabulous, and I am sure it tasted delicious. Thanks for the walk down memory lane with the opening tune. 🎶 “This is the sound of my soul…this is the sound….”
This makes me very hungry! Looks delicious. It's good to see I've been making my purple cabbage the right way all along, though I did like the extra pan press touch. Something to new to do. Thanks Derek.

I dont recall singing along while watching a cooking video ...not complaining mind u...but my pups are rolling their eyes.
🙏🏻🫶🏻✌🏻xx
Looks like MAGIC! And your display is wonderful. Thank you so much for teaching all of us! ❤
Nothing good in politics these days. Food first 🫶
I loved cooking green cabbage in the same way! never tried it with purple cabbage, also never knew anyone else in the world ever cooked dry fried cabbage, first time checking out your videos, awesome video.
This was the MOST GenX video ever and I LOVE IT!!!
Ahhhmazing. You never miss- thx for the rice and greens cooking tips. I can’t wait to try this meal.
I kind of just got the gist of it, turned out great
Watched this last week, made this afternoon! absolutely delish! thankyou!
But if Al Franken from SNL if you know that reference 🙏🫶
I made this tonight and it was divine. A few subs based on what I had in the garden (I only had white cabbage) and kitchen (I had no star anise so used some chinese 5 spice) and it all worked out well. This is a real keeper.
Sounds great!
Even if I don’t make the recipe I always click on your newest videos. It feels like catching up with a good friend who calls to catch up and fills your bucket, all my best to beloved Frankie 🎉❤
Thank you for all the great tips. 💜
Frankie is just darling… so funny… love it appreciate all you share on your channel. I’ve learned so much that has taken my plant based kitchen to a new level. And I can’t believe it but it’s even simplified some things too! Thank you for being kind and sharing your heart. Hugs for Francesca .
I may even try this. Great filming, vibe, music, editing. ❤
I bought tempeh and don't know how to cook it. So glad you showed us how! Thank you so much.
You have created a great community of plant based food lovers. The creative recipes are delicious, the fun videos, and of course Frankie's supervisory skills.. Thanks for another good one. Yum 🤗
Yeah He Looks Like Somebody that scams guillable ppl
What a great video - the cooking, the music, Frankie. And it looks freakin delicious. I am one of those who has yet to try tempeh, but I think you have tipped the scales.
It's mouth-watering😍 and Frankie is just lovely 🥰🥰
I love that you make veggies look so scrumptious. Non vegans don't seem to appreciate that veggies can be the star of the plate.
Holy moly this dish looks AMAZING! Maybe it will help me eat more tempeh - I’ve been doing it all wrong 😢 Thank you for sharing 😊
Tempeh !
The finished dish also has excellent complementing colors ❤. Thanks for sharing how to prepare tempeh - looking forward to trying it! 🎉
I'm officially in love 🤦🏽♀️❤ Epic video! Love the Music, the food, Frankie and love that Man. I don't think I could make that. 😋🤤🤤🤤
Absolutely stunning dish in every way. Love the Frankie narrative 😂honestly all round ace vegan chef, human being of kind, compassion and authenticity. Follower forever with so much gratitude 🌶🥕🥬❤
Just found your channel... I've been feeling the need to relearn how to cook. And I've definately been wanting to switch to a plant based diet. I live nomadically in my (semi) off grid skoolie. Storing meat and dairy is a pain in my ass. I needed your vids and the Universe brought it. Thank you!!!
I need to make the chili sauce! I've never had Tempeh, so I guess I'll try that next. Thank you for the way to prepare it. Frankie is getting good at bossing around! My best to you both!
Watching your videos and cooking up your recipes is my number one dopamine hit. For this I thank you so very much 🙏
Looks truly amazing, can’t wait to make it…thank you for being here for all us plant eaters ❤
I really appreciate how happy you are eating all the good food you make. Such joy! 😀
What a beautiful plate of food 🤤 I love tempeh - definitely have to try the marinade, then add to rice and amazing veggies. What a game changer 🙌 Thank you Ms Frankie for looking after your man 😁 🌱
The greens and cabbage cooking method looks great.
