This song used to LITERALLY be a state secret. The Vatican only allowed this song to be played in the Sistine Chapel, and held this song's composition under lock and key for ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY YEARS. Then Mozart listen to it twice, wrote it down from memory, and published it for the rest of the world. Edit: Yes, I got this info from Reddit
I am muslim from saudi arabia but realy i liked this one makes me feel like i fly in the heaven. This music was also in the movie faceoff by travolta and cage 1997
This type of choral music is part of Catholic heritage and has its roots in the ancient Gregorian Plainchant renditions of the many psalms which monks and nuns chanted. I suspect few non-Catholics would have shown any interest in this type of music in the 17th and 18th centuries, especially as The Age of Enlightenment unfolded (and some would have actively condemned it). I am glad that more and more non-Catholics are beginning to appreciate this type of music, not just for the singing, but for the actual meaning of the words. Ad maiorem Dei gloriam
Miserere mei, Deus: secundum magnam misericordiam tuam. Et secundum multitudinem miserationum tuarum, dele iniquitatem meam. Amplius lava me ab iniquitate mea: et a peccato meo munda me. Asperges me hysopo, et mundabor: lavabis me, et super nivem dealbabor. Audi tui meo dabis gaudium et laetitiam: et exsultabunt ossa humiliata. Averte faciem tuam a peccatis meis: et omnes iniquitates meas dele. Cor mundum crea in me, Deus: et spiritum rectum innova in visceribus meis. Ne proiicias me a facie tua: et spiritum sanctum tuum ne auferas a me. Redde mihi laetitiam salutaris tui: et spiritu principali confirma me.

@@janus3555 Correct. He's in another video doing this same song and he has glasses on. However, why does the camera pan away from ever showing him sing the high notes???
I dont want to offend your feelings, but its FAITH that is a source and people's need to express this faith. To me it's of no importance: end result is stunning. And I am sure without faith people wouldnt creat all those things.
Ghost brought me here, I had been trying forever to figure out what they where playing to open their shows... this is it one of them at least. It is a beautiful song and sends shivers down my spine, chilling. 1:44 was absolutely amazing at adding to the atmosphere of that night.
Thanks so very much for posting this; shame it couldn't have been the full piece, but, whatever the length, it's glorious...the boy soprano's voice, soaring above the others into the heavens....brings tears to my eyes no matter how often I listen to this incredible work.
This song was written in the 1630s and was performed only in the Sistine Chapel. The Vatican kept the composition of the piece secret for 150 years until the 14-year-old Mozart listened to the piece two times, transcribed it from memory, and produced the first unauthorized copy of the song. Definitely.
This is what I imagine how angels sing to the Lord🙏💒🙏
I’d say this wouldn’t be far from off
the lord was a poor person and never a lord.
If I was a God, this is what I'd want to hear...

This is a beautiful choral presentation with such clarity of tone and super pitch. Thanks for posting such a quality video for all to enjoy!
That High C though! I first heard this sung in Baltimore by the choir of Saint Johns in the Village and it was breathtaking.

One of the many Mozart myths, like the one about him being buried in a pauper’s grave.
But, if it was on Wikipedia, then it must be true!

This music is deeper than God and more beautiful.
It is equivalent as it, one of the best pieces composed in ancient times.
God is the creator and deserves all credit.
