This song used to LITERALLY be a state secret. The Vatican only allowed this song to be played in the Sistine Chapel, and held this song's composition under lock and key for ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY YEARS. Then Mozart listen to it twice, wrote it down from memory, and published it for the rest of the world.
Edit: Yes, I got this info from Reddit
notbobby125 I found this song from the reddit post saying the exact thing too! Cool!
notbobby125 Nice dude, I wonder where you got that info from. Have you thought about doing a Reddit AMA yet?
If I was a God, this is what I'd want to hear...
That little blonde kid has ridiculous top range. My god that was amazing.
actually think it was the black haired kid next to him who hit that high note. If you re watch you see the blonde kid hit a note and hold it while the high note comes I n later
@@janus3555 Correct. He's in another video doing this same song and he has glasses on. However, why does the camera pan away from ever showing him sing the high notes???
It makes me weep, it's so lovely. And I'm Jewish ...
Magda Arciszewska but Christ is the source, center and focus of all beauty
I dont want to offend your feelings, but its FAITH that is a source and people's need to express this faith.
To me it's of no importance: end result is stunning.
And I am sure without faith people wouldnt creat all those things.
Magda Arciszewska Creativity does NOT come from faith. That's a very old belief.
Miserere mei, Deus: secundum magnam misericordiam tuam.
Et secundum multitudinem miserationum tuarum, dele iniquitatem meam.
Amplius lava me ab iniquitate mea: et a peccato meo munda me.
Asperges me hysopo, et mundabor: lavabis me, et super nivem dealbabor.
Audi tui meo dabis gaudium et laetitiam: et exsultabunt ossa humiliata.
Averte faciem tuam a peccatis meis: et omnes iniquitates meas dele.
Cor mundum crea in me, Deus: et spiritum rectum innova in visceribus meis.
Ne proiicias me a facie tua: et spiritum sanctum tuum ne auferas a me.
Redde mihi laetitiam salutaris tui: et spiritu principali confirma me.
I am muslim from saudi arabia but realy i liked this one makes me feel like i fly in the heaven. This music was also in the movie faceoff by travolta and cage 1997
@@Maaer-w4z Yes I'm very glad you enjoyed it :D Beauty knows know barriers of ethnicity/country/religion!
This is a beautiful choral presentation with such clarity of tone and super pitch. Thanks for posting such a quality video for all to enjoy!
Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful musics ever created by mankind!
There is no need to be upset
That High C though! I first heard this sung in Baltimore by the choir of Saint Johns in the Village and it was breathtaking.
This song was written in the 1630s and was performed only in the Sistine Chapel. The Vatican kept the composition of the piece secret for 150 years until the 14-year-old Mozart listened to the piece two times, transcribed it from memory, and produced the first unauthorized copy of the song. (en.wikipedia.org)
One of the many Mozart myths, like the one about him being buried in a pauper’s grave.
But, if it was on Wikipedia, then it must be true!
Its very, very beautiful!!!
GOOSEBUMPS ALL OVER !!!
WONDERFUL !
This kind of music makes me whole with the universe !
This type of choral music is part of Catholic heritage and has its roots in the ancient Gregorian Plainchant renditions of the many psalms which monks and nuns chanted.
I suspect few non-Catholics would have shown any interest in this type of music in the 17th and 18th centuries, especially as The Age of Enlightenment unfolded (and some would have actively condemned it).
I am glad that more and more non-Catholics are beginning to appreciate this type of music, not just for the singing, but for the actual meaning of the words.
Ad maiorem Dei gloriam
May Papa bless you.
Thanks so very much for posting this; shame it couldn't have been the full piece, but, whatever the length, it's glorious...the boy soprano's voice, soaring above the others into the heavens....brings tears to my eyes no matter how often I listen to this incredible work.
I like the ornamentation the soprano uses in the more "melismatic," soloistic passages.
I have been looking for this song for years .... thank you
Thank you, I wasn't able to watch this on the BBC website. They are much better here than in 2011.
Amazing piece
Presenza del divino in mezzo a noi.!

What is going with UA-cam? It does not allow anyone to reply to any comments??
Why did someone flag this comment as spam?
It translates as "Luckily there is still the Anglican Church to cultivate good sacred music ..."
Let's hope it continues to do so :)
Grazie!
Lovely. Sounds like they cut part of it out as well...the whole thing can go on for over twelve minutes.

Miserere, miserere
