I dont want to offend your feelings, but its FAITH that is a source and people's need to express this faith. To me it's of no importance: end result is stunning. And I am sure without faith people wouldnt creat all those things.

This type of choral music is part of Catholic heritage and has its roots in the ancient Gregorian Plainchant renditions of the many psalms which monks and nuns chanted. I suspect few non-Catholics would have shown any interest in this type of music in the 17th and 18th centuries, especially as The Age of Enlightenment unfolded (and some would have actively condemned it).
