The most beautiful Allegris Miserere I ever heard. It is like a prayer for our whole existence, like a prayer for our beeing in this world of changes. Music has that power to stand up against all evil in this world.
For my ear, the sound is beyond perfection but... but the pronunciation of the T letter is not correct, it seems that they added an S and the result is a pop/snap sound especially when the T is in the attack. It is caused by a too strong english inflection which would go softened to achieve a more proper rendition. Incredibly, even for absolute level choristers like these, there is room for improvement.
Absolutely exquisite. And Andrea's soprano is totally stunning - the best controlled high treble I've ever heard for the Miserere. I stand in admiration!
Yes, but Misere Mei Deus (Have mercy on me God) comes has from Psalm 51 of Old Testament where King David with spirit broken and contrit soul ask God mercy for the death of Betsabe husband, because he planned his dearh to marriage her. Sanct Michael Archangel don't appears here for nothing. It' s all King David speaking God.
Wow. Stunning. Goose bumps. Gänsehaut. Rarely I appreciate a high soprano like here. Crystal clear without sounding "penetrating". Simply brilliant. As a previous bass singer, also in very small choirs (one singer per voice), videos like that make me longing back to those times... Listening is one thing. Being part of a choir and singing by oneself is a completely other one.
Over the years, I've had the pleasure of hearing this A Capella masterpiece performed by some of the finest choral groups and in some the best acoustical venues. However, I am audibly stunned here. To say that this is stunning would be an understatement. This performance is masterfully executed by one of the most outstanding choral/vocal groups anywhere, in my opinion. VOCES8 has always been at the top of my list; but here, they have outdone themselves. Their voices...WOW!....are balanced and blended to absolute perfection. Congratulations on a spectacular performance...BRAVO!
I agree 100% I was transfixed. I couldn't move for fear of disturbing the magic. This group gives a master class of renaissance and baroque music with every single performance. I cannot wait to see them live.
Considering it's a YT video and the compression that YT forces on videos, you haven't heard shite if you think this is the most impressive audially. Live would have been far better, and that venue is certainly nothing special for acoustics.
@@iatsd Thank you for you half-arsed reply. I realize that hearing this 'live' would have been much better for you (as it would for most of us), but that isn't really possible here, right? Simply the most peaceful way to wake up to another Monday work-day, thank you for the spirituality of sound to bless my stressful day today, God bless you lovely singers ❤❤❤
I once heard a rehearsal of this in Guildford Cathedral I only remember the soprano it was done by a diminutive little boy of about 11 standing in the crossing in the middle of the Cathedral and his un-amplified voice completely filled the whole Cathedral would have been in about 1966 they kept stopping and making him do it again. made the hairs stand up on my neck
The soprano high notes were originally written for a boy treble...here it is interpreted so beautifully by a really incredible soprano. But the 'authentic' versions use a boy for his pre-pubescent timbre as it was written originally. Andrea Haines singing the part here is utterly sublime in recreating that part...her timbre is perfection, the best I have ever heard. Absolutely perfect. A boy treble brings he's own level of timbre to the music....but I have to say this version is utterly sublime.
I love that they shift, and how the acoustics change. Makes you really feel how these old cathedrals were designed for this. This is spine tingling. ❤❤❤
So true - though St Egiden is about a century later than the Miserere. It's only when you compare plainsong in a cathedral with a later massed choral work that you realise what a difference the acoustics make. I heard Beethoven's Missa Solemnis in Winchester Cathedral a few years ago, and it was just a wall of sound - the building's resonance made it impossible to hear properly. On the other hand the Miserere or some Gregorian plainsong would have been exquisite in the same setting.
Thank you to you wonderful young people. Never heard better. I am moved beyond words by this. You are a blessing in this screaming world. Please do something else for us. Never, ever, stop. Love from Lancashire. RevDev
Just incredible...utterly exquisite......the best by a country mile. The tall soprano, forgive me for not knowing your name....you are national treasure.
@@ianrobertson2282 Thank you! Andrea's timbre is utter perfection. The best soprano I have ever heard sing this piece. Her voice is sublime and perfect for this piece of music.
I found this piece of music by accident many years ago on a cd in a music shop during a rough time in my life, I would drive late night with this as loud as possible through country lanes with no lights on as fast as my car would go. (It was high powered) Yes I was dangerous but I was hurting inside, all I can say is I made it through those nights unscathed. This piece will always have a special place in my heart reserved for my most deepest emotions.
Le Miserere d'Allegri est une pure merveille. Il ne faut pas confondre l’esbroufe qui est une comédie superficielle et un feu de paille, avec la vraie beauté qui provient du fond de l'âme et est éternelle.
